Skylar is the kind of girl who knows exactly how many seconds it takes to read this summary. She knows exactly what her perfect future looks like and how to get there because her dad has already defined it for her and her older sister has already paved the way.

That means she knows what college classes to take her junior year, what accounting firm she’ll work at after graduation, and exactly the kind of guy she needs to keep her parents happy.

So it’s only logical that she makes a pros and cons list after every coffee date. And when she unexpectedly dives headfirst into a casual fling, she defines it with a contract that clearly outlines the rules of this secret relationship.

In this coming-of-age novel — while she balances planning her sister’s wedding, going on way too many dates, and fulfilling obligations as SGA’s Social Outreach vice chair — Skylar has to find the line between perfection and what she really wants. And discover if they are the same thing or if it pays to sometimes break the rules.

A Guy Like Him is a refreshing take on the messy journey on figuring out who you are and who you want to be with. We live in a society that has a plethora of opinions on how we should act, who we should love, and how we should spend our time on this earth. This book gives an eye opening look into just how all those voices - including those from family and friends - have such a strong effect on our life and decisions.

Every page, every word pulls you into the story, and makes you feel like you are walking in Skylar’s shoes, because let’s face it, we have all fallen into line with conformity every once and awhile. But what truly makes us happy? WHO truly makes us happy? Don’t get me wrong - this is an enjoyable book for the beach or for a night in with a glass of wine, but it also makes you think about your own journey of self discovery. It’s the best of both worlds. This is a book I will probably read over and over again. I highly recommend you add it to your must-read list.

Are you a people-pleaser? Do you have some type-A personality traits? Love a good love story? Then you are going to speed through this book!

While it’s a great story about unlikely lovebirds, it will also make you think about the fact that everyone has their own perspective and their own truth. It might even make you realize some things in your life you’re doing for others and not for yourself.

Overall this book was an breezy read that flowed well. You can easily visualize the story without an over-kill of scenery setting, making it easy to dive into the story and feel with the characters. Highly recommend for your next beach trip, pool day, or soak in the tub!

I was hooked after the first chapter. This is the PERFECT book to cozy up with on the couch at night or take with you on your beach vacation. It had been awhile since I'd gotten this lost in the story line of a fiction book, so much so that I finished it in four days! The characters are relatable, well-developed yet still surprising. If you're a fan of Sarah Dessen novels, you will love A Guy Like Him!

Whether you’re looking for a book to read on the beach, on a plane, cozied up next to the fire, or on a rainy day, “A Guy Like Him” is the perfect pick. The author does a beautiful job of bringing Skylar and Dean’s relationship to life, all while taking us on a journey to self-discovery - one that everyone can relate to! I truly didn’t want to put the book down!

Schuyler is a type-A accounting major who happens to encounter Dean at just the moment when she is beginning to question everything in her rigid and planned-out life. Dean is an artist with a laid back attitude who is patient and kind. The relationship blossoms as each becomes more vulnerable and open to change. The characters are complex, and the story is beautifully written. I could not put it down. Can’t wait for the next book from this author!
