Purchased At: $39.94 (4 used & new offers)

Our office uses RingCentral and we originally used no-brand VOIP modems bought from eBay for $5 --- for this price, it's probably not surprising we had many issues with those modems (dropped calls, ghost calls, unable to pick up calls, unable to make calls)... you name it, we experienced it. I finally got fed up trying to troubleshoot what was wrong and went on RingCentral's website to see what product they recommend: Cisco SPA 122. I checked Amazon's pricing which sells the same unit for about $30 less and would arrive in a day with Prime. Sold! Once the modem arrived, the RingCentral setup was super simple (but perhaps not so obvious). Insert a paper clip in the back of the modem to reset it's setting. Plug in the power, ethernet cable (yellow), and a phone (grey 1 or 2). Pick up the handset (there will be no dial tone), dial **** (four stars), when you hear the configuration menu - dial 110# and write down the given IP address, now login to your RingCentral account, select Phones and Devices from the left column, select Add Device at the bottom (or the line you want to change and click "Setup and Provisions"), select "Cisco" then the model number "122", click next and enter the IP address you just wrote down, on the next page, you'll need to plug your computer to the modem (blue) by ehternet cable and also turn off all other internet connections to your computer (i.e. your wifi) so that your computer is only connected to the modem, when you click next the instructions will tell you to enter the same IP address in a web browser, the modem webpage should pop-up (default login is user admin, password admin), once logged in you need to change the default login (user/password to something more secure), go back to the RC instructions page and config the modem as they indicated, once you click save and go back to the RC page, you will be asked to enter the user and password you just set, once you click next, RC will do it's thing and confirm when it's finished configuring, once the modem reboots, your modem should now be set to your RC account. You can confirm your setup worked by picking up the handset, you should hear a dial tone and be able to make calls. Sooo... after having this new modem for a few weeks, all our issues before have gone away and we have not had any other incidents. The sound quality has also improved a lot (sounds like a normal landline). All in all, the $40-ish spent on this modem was well worth every penny and we should have just bought this modem in the first place.

First I ordered a similar product from grand stream. It worked great except that it does not support 10 digit dialing which is really annoying. I didn’t like having to remember to always dial a one. So I got this instead. It worked fine for a few days but then everybody started complaining that they could hear echoes when they were talking. It doesn’t happen on the grand stream. Trying to get support from Cisco is ridiculous. Naturally I went to look into returning those two days after my return window with Amazon had closed. Annoying.

I have two ATAs. a SPA112 and SPA122 for backup purposes. In case a unit fails we won't be without our phones while we obtain a replacement.

I configured both to my VoIP service, so in case one fails, I can quickly switch over to the other.

I noticed that I couldn't access the SPA122's web interface through the LAN. I had to connect a PC directly to the ATA's ethernet port to configure it. That's in the user guide, so "Read The Fine Manual" applies. You can't access it through the LAN until you change the default passwords. That's a good thing security-wise.

it's a good idea to back up your configurations, which are found in the administrative section of the web interface, documenting your passwords and settings, and storing all on a USB thumb drive in case you need them.

Very nice unit, except:
1) The quick start guide should have made it clear that you MUST connect to the LAN port. Page 5 Step 1 says you CAN connect to the LAN port, which implies that you can connect to the WAN port as well. The WAN port won't work until you get in via the LAN port and enable administration on the WAN port. So you must start with the LAN port.
2) The included Ethernet cable was bad, but since I couldn't get the browser working on the WAN port it took me a while to realize that I had two problems instead of one.

Once I discovered I had to use the LAN port and substituted a good cable the browser connected just fine. I enabled the browser for the WAN port and all is good. I called the VOIP company I'm using and they gave me the configuration and up it came. So now I'm happy, but annoyed that it was so hard to get going.

I especially like the LAN port in bridging mode. I have another low data rate box next to this one and thus needed to run only a single cable instead of two. Which is why I chose the SPA122 over the SPA112.

This is probably the 6th or 7th SPA122 or 121 router/ATA that I've bought. I've never had one fail, but just keep giving and selling them to others as I've never had any issues. There was a caller-id bug a couple years ago, but I reported it on the forums, and they turned out a beta-firmware for me to try pretty quickly, and I've been happy ever since.

Edit: just bought two more, and had one fail. It turns out that Cisco won't honor their manufacturer warranty for items bought through Amazon, and Amazon only gives a 30 day warranty, and this item failed outside of that window. Amazon was nice enough to refund it this one time, but that isn't their usual practice. So, I guess I won't buy any more Cisco items from Amazon. Too bad. I really like the SPA series.

I have now had two different IP voice Services unable to configure this device. I've worked in IT for 30 plus years so it is something that should be somewhat easy for me to do. I've been unable to do it and frankly the last check that looked at it and worked on it suggested that I give up and just returned it. That is exactly what I intend on doing. This product is overly complex with router features and weigh under on the complete comprehensive installation guide for IP telephones. It does not automatically connect nor automatically configure even though this information is available on Cisco's website. The product is terrible don't waste your time with it by IP VoIP phone and move forward with it instead.

I use this in the UK with sipgate, and it works perfectly. The first thing I did was update the firmware to the latest version. The web interface is a bit daunting, so I followed the instructions for the SPA112 from sipgate's website. The telephone sockets are for the US, so at least one adapter is required, and the adapter must have a ringing capacitor in it for use with UK phones, otherwise the phone won't ring. All in all I'm very impressed. The only reason I give it 4 stars rather than 5, is that the inventory in the manual states that it comes with a telephone adapter, which it didn't.

Definitely not Red (black). Little difference from SPA112 (only difference is it can act as a router, which I discovered I didn't need) except nearly twice the price.

Better than the Zoom ata I was using on sipgate.
This registers with sipgate no problem.
My old Zoom wouldn`t register properly with Sipgate when testing with the 10000 number. This one does :)
I had to connect this box direct to my PC first though as it wouldn`t let me access the spa122 interface using my browser using 192.168.0.* ect even though it was set up ok to my router.

The item works well but was not supplied with a UK power adaptor European only. I don' know if this is the norm or it was missing from the box. It's the sort that clips onto the power adaptor and there was only the European one.

Great Product works as designed but doesn't come with a UK plug you can buy one from broadbandbuyer
