It's fun, and works as advertised. But I am surprised for the bad decision of switching to a square pixel like pattern for the holes. Instead of the honeycomb. You only need to look at templates online to see the difference on how things look like. If you remake a toy. Would you want to give it every opportunity of success. I would readily gift this to our friends kids or buy a second one. Except for that terrible idea of doing away with the hexagon pattern. Hopefully someone reads this and makes a correction. And if you agree please vote this as helpful. I have not found a new version of this toy done "right".

UPDATE

I recently bought the new hexagon pattern version. The hexagon pattern is there. But the side detachable container with childproof cover is gone. There was only a plastic bag. No joke, the kiddos spread the pegs for the new lite bright all over the house. While the new one had few lost over almost 2 years since we bought it. Also the flexible pegs are gone too. I suspect the new ones resemble the 80s version more closely. But they are less bright. Plus the overall make is more flimsy too. The type of peg is not as important. The kick stand is too flimsy. And it is a cool feature to have dinner right. I feel sympathy for the toy designers. This may feel like filming the sequels for Star wars.

We loved it until we used the two sheets included. Now it sits unused because I cannot find refill sheets for it that work. I ordered refill sheets that were too small for the screen (though the advertisement said they were compatible), and the paper is too thick to punch through and impossible to line up. I have spent hours trying to find refill sheets. FRUSTRATED!

The mixed reviews scared me, but I couldn't be happier with it. My 4 year old can push the pegs in with no help at all. The lite-Brite came with 4 paper designs. I even bought a 12 pack of extra designs and the fit just fine. The holes line right up with the designs. It is battery operated, which is nice for travel. The pegs come with a storage case which connects to either side of the lite-brite for righty or lefty. The light can stay on, blink, or light up randomly like Christmas lights. I'm glad I bought it, such an improvement on the old one i had as a kid :)

This is the biggest disappointment in any purchase I have ever had. It is 1/4 the size of the original Lite Brite. It comes with only TWO templates. Should be described as a "travel" version.

The fact that there's only two templates included with this product is a joke. I thought it would be no big deal as I read that you can print more templates online. I've spent the last two hours trying to resize their printable templates, and no matter what program I use, it simply doesn't work. I can buy another hardcopy set of 12 templates that my kids will blow through in 2 days for $9, which is 2/3 of the price I paid for this product. $.75 a template is unconscionable. Truly angry and frustrated.

I had one of these as a kid, about 15 years ago? and they were really cool and fun. they used to stand upright, were good quality (metal), with sturdy pegs, and the pictures laid nice on the board. my daughter got this as a Christmas present this year and I was pretty disappointed. everything is cheap and made of plastic anymore, it also doesn't stand upright, and the pictures don't fasten on very well, the pegs are so light and cheap :( and only comes with two templates. i am not very happy with it but she seems to like it, she's used it a couple times since she got it. the only upgrade is the light does different effects.

I gave 3 stars and that was a stretch. This is smaller than the original lite brite and does not stand up unless you hang it. It only comes with two picture sheets 🙄. The light 💡 is NOT bright (which sorta contradicts the toy name), not sure about replacement bulbs. My daughter likes it but it is definitely not as cool as it used to be. In my opinion, they should have just left the original design alone and charged a little more if necessary for a better quality product instead of cheapening it. It did arrive on time.

My wife had always wanted one of these as a kid but never got one. She was so excited to see it and has done a lot of pictures with the kids. The only drawback to it is that if I remember correctly, with the original one, the holes were pre-drilled but indicated the color to put for each picture. With this one, it shows the color, but you have to punch the peg through a solid card, that then does not allow you to see what color goes there, because the writing of the color gets punched through. So, not necessarily a deal breaker, but makes reusing the cards difficult if you want to know what color is recommended where.

Any toy with a multitude of tiny bits and teeny holes requires patience, advanced fine motor skills and an innate willingness to tidy up. Be sure the child-recipient possesses all these traits before gifting this item. Harried mums will thank you. My children played with sets like this 35 years ago, so I understood its strengths and weaknesses. Luckily I guessed right and the 5-year-old birthday girl loved it. Playing with the toy will be fun and will enhance her well-developed skills. Know your recipient’s strengths and choose accordingly.

Omg this is everything, I used to have this growing up and absolutely loved it. When I saw this I instantly remembered how many years this was a favourite of mine for. So I figured It we a must buy for my son and he thought it was amazing, we cannot get enough of this and it's giving us some good quality mother and son time.

A great retro product. I’ve been waiting for this coming back for years and so pleased it did for the 5 yr old to enjoy. The base is a lot thinner than previous versions and doesn’t stand up as well but it does lie flat ok. They have made the backing black not white like in the 90s so no need for tons of black paper to make your own pictures on. There could be more lights for a better effect. The pegs and everything else is the same as the original. It’s a well loved addition to the toy collection and has hours of play value and value for money u like some of the more modern toys.

This was a gift for a 5 year old boy and was loved by the recipient! Several other child guests have been drawn to it and we think the way it lights up is lovely. Batteries seem to last a while as it’s been in lots of use for a few weeks and still not run out. I think incorporating a storage pot for the pegs would be an improvement as they can easily go everywhere.
