No matter how hard she tried, Kimber Gray always seemed to manage to get knocked back down a peg or two. She was a top rate chef and graduated at the top of her class, but no matter how hard she tried no one would acknowledge it. Now, blackballed in the only profession she knew, she was a failure to the one that mattered most—her daughter, Hannah. With no recourse left to her, she’d have to grovel and beg her aunt for help.

Lee Emerson was glad to be back home for a while. He loved what he did, being a food critic and helping failing restaurants was a dream job come true. But he was tired of the traveling and just wanted to take care of things around the house and relax for a change.

Slone, Hunter’s mate, wanted to open a fancy restaurant and have Lee run it. He wasn’t so sure about that, but he’d love nothing better than to hire that chef that had prepared the last meal he’d had in France before he left. It was the best meal he’d ever eaten, and he had been disappointed when he found out the man had left before he could tell him so. The slush claiming to cook the meal, wasn’t the cook and he’d bet his last dollar on it.

Kimber had had it. Her aunt had gone too far this time, and there was no way she’d expose her little girl to such meanness again. They’d live on the street first, and she was trying to tell Slone that she wasn’t a charity case. That she could provide for her daughter somehow, when the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen cornered her, snarling that he’d protect her with his life.

Ah, hell no. Who in the hell did he think he was?
I loved this book the best (except for the changing of the way Slone's name was spelled). This book had more of the good vs bad feel to it. Kimber's great-aunt, Kimberly thought that everything should be done her way & if you didn't do that then she would pay someone to kill you & she had killed a lot of people. Kimberly was a chef in France but was struggling because unbeknownst to her her great-aunt had paid a lot of people to keep her struggling. When Kimber loses her job & has to move back to the U.S. she winds up meeting Lee who knows immediately that she is his mate. & then the fun begins. This book contains a very insane great-aunt, a vampire, lots of sexy wolves, lots of sex scenes & a wolf/vampire hybrid. & of course most of all the previous characters from the other books in this series. Will be waiting to read about Graham story.

This book is enchanting, enthralling and endlessly entertaining where stubbornness and determination to rise above conflict with a core of steel to get to where love and happiness lives! You will never regret reading this unique and riveting storyline that will make you laugh, grin, cry and experience the twists and turns with characters that know how to get the job done and the journey to get there!

What I like most about this series is the characters. They are likeable and seam real. Kimber and Hannah has had a hard life and when she has to move back with her aunt their life gets worse. Lee is a busy wolf he has been gone from his family for awhile. When he returns all he would like to do is rest. But that's doesn't go as planned and when the two meet it goes from bad to worse. But mates stick through it. I enjoy this series and can't wait for Graham's book.

Loved Lee and Kimber's story. Hunter wolf gets to go alpha on a problem wolf. Luke gets to play bad ass lawyer and flex mayor muscle. Cash gets a new daughter to charm and a granddaughter to spoil. The Emerson ladies do what they do best. Steward , not only gets to play big bad vampire, he saves Kimber's live. Little Kelly must be a strong alpha to at age 6 know that little Hannah is his mate. A great addition to the series. Looking forward to Graham"s story.

I continue to enjoy the Emerson saga. I liked this one a little more as they seemed to know more about each other before they mated. Hannah was wonderful and the aunt a great bad guy. So glad to get to read about Sloan's baby too.

I will be returning this book. it has been awhile since I bought one but thought I'd try again. If anything they are worse, containing bestiality (main character as a wolf giving oral sex to female in human form.). Apparently after speaking with friends about this, the author does this in all her shifter books now. Outside of that, her books are cookie cutter. They all progress the same way, only the crisis changes.

Great book as always. The dynamics with all the family is great. A heart stopping moment when it seemed lee had killed his mate but she came back better than ever. Looking forward to the last book about Graham to see what trials he has to overcome
