The Richest Man in Babylon
The Richest Man in Babylon
First off, this was probably the 20th book about (finance, getting rich, making $, etc) I read. For my adult life I struggled with $, debt, bills, etc.
While the info contained within this book certainly is no secret, the story spoke to me in a way that nothing else had. Maybe it was the context, language, or the historical time tested theory, I'm not sure but whatever it was, it resonated.
I started reading this book a few years ago in a hotel room on Christmas eve.
Something about the stories, lessons, and history really spoke to me. I made a commitment and the following year saw me get out of the hamster wheel of debt that I'd been running in since I was 18.... And establish a respectable savings.
Some won't appreciate the stories, some may dismiss the lessons as "common sense" (despite the fact that they aren't applying them and are broke.)
Other stories, lessons, formats, may speak better to you.... That's fine.
But for me,
This book along with the millionaire mind are head and shoulders the two books that have made the biggest impact on me.
The Real Warren Buffett: Managing Capital, Leading People (Bookbytes Executive Summary)
The Real Warren Buffett: Managing Capital, Leading People (Bookbytes Executive Summary)
I first read this book in 2003 and re-read it again in December 2010.

O'Loughlin's "The Real Warren Buffett: Managing capital, leading people" focuses on both Buffett's skill as an investor and his role as a business leader. Most people are perhaps more familiar with the first yet curiously we are likely to learn more from the second. Why, well because Buffett was "hard-wired" with the kind of logical mathematical brain that favoured him in investing whereas he had to learn to become a good leader.

This book is a great help in addressing how Buffett became a sucessful business leader. It talks about the "explosion" in Buffett's cognition after 20 years being a successful stock picker which came in part from his exposure to Charlie Munger, his subsequent business partner. Just as Benjamin Graham influenced his early approach to investing, Charlie Munger was an equally important influence on his later approach to investing and business leadership.

O'Loughlin highlights how Buffett first began to address the issue of the "institutional imperative" in organisations and then realised it applied to him as well. What is the institutional imperative? It refers to the tendency of organisations to resist any change to its current direction. Buffett liked to quote Churchill who said "you shape your houses and then your houses shape you" and Lord Keynes who said "The difficulty lies not in the new ideas but in escaping from the old ones". In Buffett's case this meant escaping the old ways of valuing businesses that he learned from Ben Graham and learning new ways he was exploring himself urged on by Munger.

In Buffett's case his imperative was to stay focused on stock picking or "renting stocks" as O'Loughlin refers to it, whereas Munger was encouraging him to look at value creation and at those businesses that had enduring franchises (the great businesses as Munger called them). Such businesses had a future whereas for most of Buffett's short-term stock picks, their best days were behind them.

Once he started to acquire these "great franchises" he was faced with a new problem, 'How to motivate their managers to stay running the business long after most had any financial need to do so'? Buffett's answer to this question is the main reason he is as successful as a business leader. How did do it?

His challenge was to get the new managers to continue to think like owners. He did this by guaranteeing their autonomy, but trusting them and by giving them a reputation to live up to. He encouraged them to "run their companies as if these are the sole asset of their families and will remain so for the next century" (Buffett, Letter to Shareholders, 1999).

Ralph Schey noted, "The greatest strength he has - giving you a lot of freedom to run the business the way you want. And that way, you can't pass the responsibility back to him" (ex CEO Scott Fetzer). Bill Child noted, "He has a way of motivating you. He trusts you so much that you just want to perform" (R.C. Willey Home Furnishings). On retiring after 20 years working with Berkshire, Ben Rosner commented to Buffett (paraphrase)"I know why it worked" he said "you forgot you bought the business and I forgot I sold it". In 2000 Buffett said, "in our last 36 years Berkshire has never had a manager of a significant subsidiary voluntarily leave to join another business".

In re-reading the book now, I am struck by the emphasis that O'Loughlin places on "development" which is of course central to my own research on Buffett. I am also reminded that just because a book is eight years old, and there have been many other books on Buffett since (most of which I have read), doesn't reduce this book's many useful insights.

The Trump Presidential Wall Game - MAGA
The Trump Presidential Wall Game - MAGA
This is a genuinely great game. Whether you love or despise Trump, it's hilarious, and it's a wonderful multi-generation game, since it doesn't require a knowledge base. My kids (youngest is 6) play their parents and grandparents, and the winner is always a surprise.

The only negative about the game is that the box is really designed for presentation, so the frame must be dismantled each time it's reboxed. Also, the hole (from the Trump display window) in the front means bricks occasionally fall out. A couple of replacement bricks would have been nice. I fear we might lose some.

This is regularly the game of choice when my little one chooses, and it's still funny every time "Trumpty Dumpty" falls.

I bought at full price, but I think the Amazon discounted price is more appropriate. I was willing to pay the extra $10 for the laugh factor, but that's just because I was at a loss for gift ideas.
George Washington's Expense Account
George Washington's Expense Account
A much better understanding of the times and the man can be achieved by reading the author's "The Making Of The President". This book is less illuminating because of the relentless sarcasm and the author's demand that the reader continuously construct their own summation instead of Mr. Kitman providing the summary conclusions derived from his studied data. I'm an ardent fan of sarcasm and capable of linear and even non-linear thought but throughout the book Mr. Kitman seems divided between beating a dead horse and leaving all arguments open-ended. General George Washington beat the taxpayers soundly or didn't he? Was it worth the price or wasn't it? Would we have gained our freedom sooner or never with a true military mind running the war? Etc., etc. Answering these questions or any questions for that matter may not have been Mr. Kitman's intent in writing this book. However, I prefer an author that announces a premise and eventually, however convoluted the path, leads us to a conclusion that we may or may not choose to agree with.
AIMS Power REMOTEHF Flush Mount Power Inverter Remote On-Off Switch
AIMS Power REMOTEHF Flush Mount Power Inverter Remote On-Off Switch
Remote for units manufactured after February 2015 only. Way nicer than the old style, love the status indicators! Note: this takes a connector compatible with an rj-9 jack to extend it and only an rj-9 will plug in to the inverter. I crimped a new end onto the extension phone cord for this purpose. The cord could be spliced but it is stranded wire so it needs a solder reinforced connection and some heat shrink. Also wish there was a surface mount kit for this but it was easy enough to make one with a surface mount wiremold box and a blank plate cut out to receive the control.
Captain America: Civil War Captain America Shield, Multi, One Size
Captain America: Civil War Captain America Shield, Multi, One Size
Nice shield, looks authentic, and great price/value (bought it for $14). It's not perfect, but looks great. I got some nice comments about it, while paired with the Cap costume. The plastic seems thin, but it's somewhat flexible, so it seems like it would take a bit of abuse before cracking. My kids played with it a bit, but not too rough (I wouldn't let them sit on it, even though they wanted to!), plus a few kids at a party kicked and punched it a few times, and it survived unscathed. I saw some other reviewers had paint that was imperfect or damaged. But mine arrived looking perfect. The straps are a bit small, and situated too close together. It has 2 straps, and holding one in my hand, the other strap is pretty much on my wrist (or slightly higher up my forearm). It would have been nice to have the straps farther apart. Also would be nice (as other have also mentioned) if the straps were located so you can wear the shield on your back. Especially as it gets tiresome to hold the thing during parties. But it's probably a lot to expect for a sub-$20 plastic costume accessory. There is certainly potential for modifying the shield to add your own straps, if you really want to.

This is such an educational show for all ages. It is definitely not boring either. I have bought all the seasons so far and the movies. We could watch them for hours.
The Hitman's Bodyguard
The Hitman's Bodyguard
Samuel L. Jackson is the funniest I have seen him in a movie apart from "Kingsman", and to some extent "Django Unchained" where he displayed superb acting skills in his portrayal of a black man house servant in the slavery era.

In the Hitman's Bodyguard Samuel L. Jackson is the central figure that connects other central characters played by Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek and Elodie Yung. In essence, these individuals can well stand on their own as demonstrated in their earlier movies, but the Hitman's Bodyguard achieves the function of housing the characters giving the audience a sense of safety, whilst providing elasticity that allows full expression reinforcing the correctness of this ensemble.

Salma Hayek is delightful as the badass wife to Samuel L. Jackson's hitman whilst maintaining indestructible femininity that can be seen as having its roots in the abiding spirit of woman. Ryan Reynolds' sardonic pre-disposition is both aggravated and mitigated in this complex father-son surrogate relationship between him and Samuel L. Jackson who becomes an unexpected mentor successfully instructing him about his love life.

This movie presents Samuel L. Jackson as a man that is ready to laugh at himself having established his position in the movie-making industry by playing more unsmiling characters.

Gary Oldman delivers as the baddie trying to thwart their plans to reach court in time and testify against him for crimes against humanity.

'Very enjoyable film from start to finish.

Ginger Lyne Collection 6mm Wide One Ring Gold Over Stainless Steel Mens or Womens Wedding Band Bridal Fashion Jewelry Gift Idea for him or her Matching
One ring to bind them....Great quality ring. My daughter gave it to her fiance and he thought it was his actual wedding ring, it was that great of quality. He was really surprised during the actual ceremony when she took out his "official" ring, but this one will go down in family history as his "one ring!"
We'd buy this again 100xs over. Great price, great quality.

Don't Ever Get Sick at Granny's (R.L. Stine's Ghosts of Fear Street, No 16)
Don't Ever Get Sick at Granny's (R.L. Stine's Ghosts of Fear Street, No 16)
I read this book in what I guess what probably the 6th grade, because around that time I loved whatever had the name "R.L. Stine" written on it. I knew from the start these books weren't written by him, but I still gave them a shot, because after reading the first two (the best ones of the series) I decided to stick around for the ride. I have only a fadey memory of this book, but remember that the plot of the book was pretty good and kept you involved. The ending was a pretty cheap pay off, and ruined basically what would have been a decent read. But, then again, you could see one of them crazy endings coming from the beginning, because as it built up, that ending was the only way to really pull off the story without it looking totally rediculous. And it was a Ghosts of Fear Street book, and most always ended like that (Ex. "The Boy Who Ate Fear Street" and "Night of the Werecat", to name a few). It's an okay read if you don't mind the helpless ending.
Irish Rose (Irish Hearts Book 2)
Irish Rose (Irish Hearts Book 2)
This was the second part of a trilogy, and written back in the 80's I believe, which explains some of the actions of the characters. Even though the H could be an unbelievable ass at times, I enjoyed the story very much. The author writes very well as everyone knows and the combination of an Irish h and a stubborn, alpha H was irresistible.
Onze minutos (Portuguese Edition)
Onze minutos (Portuguese Edition)
In all honesty, when I first started reading this book I was going to give it 5 stars. The way in which Paulo Coelho is able to create this fable-like way of storytelling that makes you content with each page but also eager to read more. At first, I kept having to remind myself this was a man writing in a woman's voice because the ideals and thought processes were so gender neutral that it allowed you to easily agree and relate to the main character. Quite a few reviewers mention the fact that Maria as a character was too distant and that in real life she would've been more emotional but I liked this feature because it created this space that allowed the reader to focus on each stage of her situation and where she wanted to be (emotionally and literally). Unfortunately, midway through the book I was disappointed in how there was a random mention of BDSM and then this cliché love storybook ending. I do agree with a few reviews on how mentioning BDSM doesn't make your book current or add a certain variety. I do feel it you do decide to mention different lifestyles and tastes you do have to do it justice and not make it sound like 50 shades. Other than that, it was refreshing to read a commentary on Brazilian/Portuguese culture but more society's a critique on society's way of categorizing sex and the mentality that surrounds it. I did enjoy reading this book and I'm happy to know a book like this exists (even if it is a bit cliché).
Brionne: A Novel
Brionne: A Novel
I needed an evening of relaxed reading, settling in with an old friend whose story I'd already heard, so I picked up Louis L'Amour's Brionne. L'Amour was a staple when I was growing up, and I still return to him again and again as I go along. Fair Blows the Wind remains my favorite novel by the author because it's such a combination of Old World swordplay, coming of age, and early Americana. But that's beside the point.

In James Brionne, L'Amour creates one of his best fighting men, a man who'd served in the Union Army during the Civil War, a man who had the ear of President Grant - and a man who had lost his wife to tragic circumstances. The first few pages of the book draw the reader in and sets him on a journey to see good triumph over evil.

The book is much as I remember it, written with a lot of introspection and bouncing around from character to character, with less action and tension than I would have liked. L'Amour also instills a romantic lyricism in his word choice, though. James Brionne is an educated man, a thinker, and that shows on the pages.

There's no real tension about where the reader is going to get during the read because the endgame is almost transparent. Still, L'Amour manages to throw a couple curves in there that will leave you unsettled about a few things as you turn the pages.

I wish there had been a little more to the story, and even the ending just seems to coast to a halt rather than escalating. The pieces just fall together without any real stress or narrative tension.

The plot is pretty thin even for a L'Amour novel, but the tale pulled me through again, and even though I knew how the book ended, and would have known anyway because it's so clear, I enjoyed roving through the Old West and stepping through my own past.

Case Closed, Vol. 5
Case Closed, Vol. 5
Gosho Aoyama, Case Closed, vol. 5 (ViZ, 1994)

Two more stories here, plus a quick third piece that relates to the greater story arc. The first has Conan and Rachel at the house of one of Rachel's friends, where a number of old school chums are gathering; it's cut off from the rest of the world, of course, and people start getting bumped off. The second involves a band whose singer Rachel and one of her pals are mad for, who dies mysteriously at a karaoke bar. Standard stuff. The bonus story is what makes the volume-- a woman shows up claiming to be Conan's mother and whisks him off. Who is she, and what does she have to do with the syndicate that poisoned Jimmy Kuda? More great stuff from Aoyama. ****

Never Send Flowers: James Bond Series 13
Never Send Flowers: James Bond Series 13
I didn’t really enjoy reading Never Send Flowers and I was happy that it was a short 244 pages long.

The plot and characters were disappointing after John Gardner showed us what he is capable of in the excellent "The Man from Barbarossa" and "Death is Forever". I also made the mistake of reading the blurb on the back of the book and for the second time with this series the publisher let slip one of the major plot points.

Never Send Flowers reads like a detective book rather than a spy thriller – Bond is on the trail of a serial killer who has committed a string of high-profile assassinations as well as the murder of an MI5 asset on vacation in Switzerland. It is the murder of this ‘sister’ that brings MI6 onto the scene.

As he travels from European location to European location our plucky hero as usual meets a couple of disappointingly sexually clichéd women, at least one insane villain (who has his own castle and an unexplained supply of explosives) and ends the story going mano a mano with the villain in EuroDisney of all places.

The lowest point of the experience for me was reading about Bond’s uncharacteristic enjoyment of the theme park which is obviously a reflection of the author’s views and follows a clumsy low-ebbing section of exposition disguised as an interrogation scene – something I have come to strongly dislike about Gardner’s writing. Amongst other traits (alcoholism, misogyny, racism) James Bond is an unabashed snob (a reflection of Ian Flemings mores no doubt) and I find it incredulous to think that such a man would enjoy Mickey Mouse or riding on a Star Wars themed ride. Ridiculous.

The Noble Collection Harry Potter Chocolate Frog Prop Replica
The Noble Collection Harry Potter Chocolate Frog Prop Replica
I've wanted the ceramic chocolate frog box replica for a while now, but the price point was just a little too much for me. I stumbled across this one from the Noble Collection and it's perfect. The price, the quality, the details...all perfect. The box is very sturdy. Made of plastic, but I'm very ok with that. It actually looks like the cardboard ones until you touch it and realize that it's not made of paper. This box is going to last!

The chocolate frog itself is cute. The feet are very floppy and stretchy while the body is definitely squish-able. There's a faint scent. Not sure if it's supposed to be chocolate or not, but it's not a bad scent. It's not plastic-y scented at all which is nice.

The final part of this is the witches and wizard card of Albus Dumbledore. It's the same size as the one you get in the "real" chocolate frog boxes. I happen to have the Dumbledore card from that, and the pictures are totally different. I appreciate that since it's not a true duplicate. The card is holographic but honestly, the picture doesn't change much, just his face a bit. The back has the description of what he is famous for.

Over all, this is one of my favorite replica pieces. It's inexpensive so it fits almost anyone's budget. It's well made: I saw no flaws in the paint job or molding of the frog. It's not super breakable so I'm not worried if it gets knocked over, it'll break. I'd definitely recommend for kids or adults with kids (or pets) that want a bit of Harry Potter magic without the danger of the case breaking!

EriCraft Artificial Snow,8 Liters, 9.2 oz, Plastic Snow for Decoration and Handcraft
This fake snow is so fine, that you'd think it's actual powder snow. I've made a huge mess with it, as the bags are vacuum sealed well, but that's fine. I used this snow for my wedding decorations; I'm not getting married for awhile but wanted to play with the product. This snow looks better than the inspiration picture I'm using! :) I'm very happy with this product.

I'll need more than what I thought for 30 vases - which was four bags. These are about the size of a Standard box of cereal. Pictured is the snow at the bottom of a vase with a little tea light and twigs (the start of my center pieces).

AIZ Mobile Standing Desk, Adjustable Computer Desk Rolling Laptop Cart on Wheels Home Office Computer Workstation, Portable Laptop Stand Tall Table for Standing or Sitting, Black 31.5" x 19.7"
Just got this desk today. The size is actually pretty nice for the main desktop, I've included a picture with common objects for reference. The storage shelf underneath is nice but I did decide to cut out notches and drill new holes as it was hitting me in the knees in its original position. It rolls nicely and the material seems fine for a simple rolling desk. I recommend having a bubble level to set the height for the desktop. I also recommend attaching the crossbar before you fully attach the poles to the underside of the desktop as the screw holes in mine were a bit too tight to get the bar in after securing the poles as the instructions advised. Overall I'd say this is a perfectly acceptable desk for the price and I have no buyers remorse after unboxing and assembly.

We have Verizon for our property in Fairfield TX where cell signal is very scarce. Normally can’t make calls at all inside the house. After installing the JaCool I was able to face time while someone was hotspotting my phone to do a zoom meeting.

Had a weboost previously which runs really hot and broke. The JaCool seems to not get hot at all.

Great value for this much label tape! It's a little different than the OEM tape that shipped with the label maker in that this tape has a kind of "carbon copy tape" that you have to discard after printing that the original tape didn't have, but it's not too much of a hassle & the print is crisp, the background tape color is a nice, bright white, and the adhesive seems plenty strong. I will definitely buy this tape again when(IF) this batch runs out!
Yacker Tracker Deluxe Noise Level Monitor, LED, 17 Inches
Yacker Tracker Deluxe Noise Level Monitor, LED, 17 Inches
I’m sure if this was purchased new there would have been no issues. However, I bought this used for my class and there was no 9vdc adapter included. The batteries had corroded that were in it and we had to clean it out. Tried a new set of batteries and it just didn’t seem to work well. Had to keep resetting it. The buttons didn’t seem to work right. I couldn’t change decibel levels. We even tried various adapters and it didn’t work at all. Again, the unit I bought was USED. It may not be the fault of the manufacturer but the fault of previous owner(s). Very frustrating because it was still pricey used.

VIVO Premium Aluminum Single Monitor Pneumatic Spring Arm, Desk Mount Stand with Extension Pole and USB, Fits 1 Screen up to 32 inches, STAND-V101GTU
tl;dr: Build quality is very good. Architecture/design/engineering is less so. Slightly misaligned expectations based on possible incorrect information on the Store listing (does it hold 33lbs or 17.6lbs?)

Context: I have the ACER XR382CQK Curved Ultrawide Monitor. Without the stand it came with, the monitor weighs about 19 pounds (~8.6kg).

Pros

- build instructions were easy to follow
- The build quality is very good
- The colors / finish are nice. The metal is a soft matte, which compliments my Black Ghost S1 Mini ITX PC nicely.
- It's stable on the desk. I super appreciate that that there is so much area of contact on both sides of the desk. Makes me feel like there is a fair amount of weight distribution in and around the area of contact.
- Once fully tightened, there is an acceptable amount of bounce/shake when my height adjustable desk decelerates to a stop.

Cons

The description says that it holds up to 33 pounds (~15kg) (see pictures of the listing at the time of writing). So, I thought "perfect!, just enough headroom to make setup and maneuvering super easy!". I was wrong. The initial mount of the showed that the pivot tension screw was going to need to be tightened. Initially I just thought "whatever", but as I kept tightening, the harder it became to tighten further.. and the monitor kept drooping. Additionally, the height-adjustment tension screen needs to be tightened *forever* in order to get my Monitor's weight supported. With both of these issues, I was worried that I had a defective monitor mount.

After re-reading the store listing for this monitor arm mount, I found that in the middle of all the description stuff, there was some text that read: "Weight Capacity: 2.2lbs to 17.6" pounds (also screenshotted in my attached images). I was sad, and didn't really want to go through the process of dismounting everything disassembly and returning something of this size and weight. I knew the overall reviews were good before buying, but I decided to fully read the reviews to see if anyone was having issues I was having. I saw a review by Jason Duncan from April 2nd, 2019 say that they also had issues with the pivot joint but got their 49" Samsung Super Ultrawide mounted -- and I know that monitor is heavier than mine, so that gave me some hope to keep tinkering. Maybe my fear could have been mitigated if the instructions maybe said that the tension screw was all the way untightened, and that if I have a monitor that weights more than 8 pounds (this is a guess), I need to tighten the tension screw *a lot*, then maybe it'd be fine? idk.

Lastly, now that I have all the tension screws figured out, there is a little bit of slop in the left-right rotation movement around the VESA mount. I know that there was an attempt to make the arm super easy to attach to a monitor by connecting the VESA mount separately from mounting the arm to the desk, and just having the back of the VESA mount lock into the arm, but on my particular monitor, I was enable to take advantage of that feature due to how my monitor is designed. The bottom of the arm-side of the VESA mount connector was hitting the top of the I/O shield, so I had to attach the top half of the arm to my monitor in one piece and ignore the "quick attach" feature of the VESA bracket to the arm.

Philips EP1220/00 Serie 1200 Espresso-Kaffeeautomaten, mattes Schwarz, 1,8 l, Stahl
All Or Nothing - Season 3
All Or Nothing - Season 3
Don't get me wrong, I luv this series! The Cardinals season was one filled with great and relatable players and coaches. The Rams season made you feel for the team, even though you couldn't figure out what the hell the coaches were thinking.
And then there were the Cowboys.
The good parts first: The Smith brothers. The offensive line going out to dinner together, the running back coach hosting dinner. Lee getting past his injuries. Morris with his '91 Mazda.
Now the rest of it: The coaches were bad. The head coach who was cocky when they won, yelled at them when they lost, and then yelled at them some more with no better results. He showed no support, no growth, no leadership... it was like he was a bad retail sales manager instead of a head coach. The coach with the stupid humorous videos and hugging which - compared to what coaches were like in other seasons of this show - did nothing do improve the game or the men. And those are really the only coaches that I remember, because they covered VERY LITTLE about the rest of the staff.
And then there was the Jones family. Ugh! Were they trying to make these people the most unrelatable, shallow, fake rich people ever? Half of the season was watching these people pretending to be a normal family, trying to make them likable. They weren't. Jones Sr.'s wife looked like she wanted to be anywhere but watching football, the daughter whose big contribution was to choose the colors the team wore, the son having the very phony dinner with his family, who were obviously having a scripted conversation, the grandchildren - or, at least, the ones playing football - that we were forced to watch play their games in their grandfather's stadium, and Jones himself flying around in his helicopter... and touching the players waaaay too much for comfort. I found the entire lot of them a cold, fake bunch, and felt really bad for any member who wasn't interested in football.
Oh, and the fact that the team based their entire season around Ezekiel Elliott, a man who was suspended for 6 games for domestic abuse charges... and we're supposed to root for him? And then spoiled, rich Jones trying to go against the commissioner because he wasn't getting his way? I had no sympathy for any of them.
And by the way, who was that "small", white, running back with blond hair who made a few touchdowns throughout the season who the show decided not to acknowledge at all? They made a big show of all the other players acting like loud, uneducated, nasty thugs (like the one guy who called a reporter dumb?), but this guy they blew right past all season long.
By the end of the season, I could care less if they won, could care less who was fired, barely saw any of the likable players, and couldn't wait to get on to the next season with the Panthers.

I absolutely loved this oil. I've been a coconut oil user & have never used any other oil than that. It was the first tym I choosed to try Castor oil from Mystiq Living since I trust this brand. Well, its been less than a week I've been using this oil & I'm so in love with this. It doesnt feel like anything on skin & hair. And I can clearly see the difference in my hair & skin after using this. Plus, castor oip has so many benefits so, bye bye to the rest oils bcoz I'm gonna stick to this for the longest tym!

I now have three of these units in my home. My wife is allergic to all kinds of "stuff". I am pleased with the performance of this unit and it has helped to reduce allergy issues in my house, BUT I have had one defect...

The unit performs well. Sound levels are acceptable at higher speeds and very quiet at lower speeds. I have one unit in my family room, one in the upstairs loft, and one in the master bedroom. I used a Sharper Image Ionic Breeze for nearly twenty years (yes 20 YEARS). It had UV, but was not well shielded which ment I had to keep the unit away from the kids. The wife also had problems if the unit was producing too much ozone (..in the master bedroom). These towers do a good job of shielding the UV light with no ozone.

The unit is well designed and quality built, but it is the UV light that I had the defect with. The very first unit burned out it's UV bulb in less than a week. I returned the unit without issues and got a replacement. I decided I would let it run for a bit to see if the second unit had similar problems, it did not. So now I have three...

**UPDATE: 2-3 months in now and I have 2 more units with burnt out UV bulbs. These bulbs are $31 each. If these bulbs burn out at this rate there's no way I can afford to keep these units around. Also, forget the six month life cycle on the HEPA filter.. Mine got completely clogged in 2-3 months. Not huge because it shows how well the filters are working in my home, but these filters are starting to look like a very expensive maintenance item. So just be aware that long term, this units will cost you $$$. Dropped the rating due to these issues...

***LAST UPDATE: I finally figured out the UV bulb problem. Two of my units kept blowing UV bulbs constantly (I almost gave up on this thing), BUT 1 never blew its bulb. I started to wonder why and realized that this particular unit was plugged into a power block with a surge protector. I decided to add surge protectors to my other two units, so I purchased and installed a Minuteman MMS110 Surge Protector from Amazon on each unit. I haven't had any UV issues since, and it's been several months now. Sooo, it appears these units are very sensitive to power spikes. If you're having similar issues, try a surge protector! Going back to 4 stars!

I suffer from severe hayfever and dust allergy which is particularly bad during the warmer months. I already have a couple of bigger air purifiers in our bedroom and lounge; I got this to keep in our guest bedroom / home office where I am spending most of the day working from home.
It is not the smallest air purifier around, however it is perfect for the size of the room. Despite the size it is incredibly lightweight! I do notice that it helps capture allergens, large dust particles and eliminate odours.
Operating the air purifier is simple and easy using the buttons at the top. There aren’t a lot of customisable settings and most importantly, there is no timer setting so turning it on & off is manual but that's totally fine for me. It is very quiet on the L setting, more like white noise, so keeping it on at night should be fine.
I have been using it for about 8 hours a day for a few days now and know it is working as have already seen dirt collected on the filter! The air also feels fresher and cooler which is a sign the purifier is doing its job. You have to keep the doors and windows closed for the purifier to be effective, which is the case with all of them so bear that in mind. I am hoping the filter will last for a few months at least.
