Warren Buffett on Business: Principles from the Sage of Omaha
Warren Buffett on Business: Principles from the Sage of Omaha
With the main exception of a relatively small textile producer known as Berkshire Hathaway, which Warren Buffett bought outright and which became the springboard for his investing career, the earlier part of Buffett's long and successful career was mainly devoted to non-controlling investments in companies, versus buying whole companies. Thus, today many people think of Buffett as "the world's most successful investor." However, Buffett's investing skills are not the primary topic of this relatively brief and easy reading book (although there is one chapter on personal investing). This book, written by Richard Connors and based on a class he taught about Buffett at the Washington University in St. Louis Lifelong Learning Institute, is devoted to describing Buffett's management activities as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. That's not a bad idea at all, given that over the years Buffett has gradually placed comparatively less emphasis on Berkshire's investments (which today include the likes of American Express, Coca-Cola and Wells Fargo) and greater emphasis on Berkshire's growing stable of wholly-owned subsidiaries. Indeed, the list of owned companies, like GEICO, International Dairy Queen, Shaw Industries, FlightSafety, Borsheim's Fine Jewelry, Nebraska Furniture Mart and The Pampered Chef, among numerous others, has grown quite large.

The prime source for this book--by far--is Buffett's annual letters to Berkshire's shareholders, written over the last 40 years. Indeed, if you were to count words, my guess is that 95% or more of this book is simply the reproduction of Buffett's comments in his various letters, organized by Connors, the book's author. So if you have read Buffett's letters over the years (an exercise I would recommend to almost anyone interested in business or investing), then you won't find much new material in this book, save for excerpts from occasional interviews with Charlie Rose or excerpts from some of Buffett's other interviews or comments.

Connors has organized Buffett's shareholder commentaries into chapters that address the various important issues of corporate management: executive compensation, time management, assessment of risk, corporate governance and culture, crisis management, capital allocation and shareholder communication, among others. Buffett's comments are interesting, valuable and candid, and he is a very clear and entertaining writer. There is some human interest material, such as an account of Buffett's 1951 Saturday trip to Washington, DC to visit the offices of GEICO (because his mentor, Benjamin Graham, was the chairman of the company). As the somewhat well-known story goes, Buffett pounded on the door to GEICO's locked building, until a custodian finally led him to meet Lorimer Davidson, an assistant to GEICO's president at the time. Davidson, who would go on to become CEO of GEICO, took the time to educate young Buffett on the power of direct marketing of insurance, and years later Buffett would go on to buy the whole company.

In short, although there is precious little new material provided here (hence the four-star rating, not five), this is a very interesting book, and it is interesting primarily because it was essentially written by Warren Buffett, one of the most successful investors--and corporate managers--of all time.
A Beginner's Guide to the Stock Market: Everything You Need to Start Making Money Today
A Beginner's Guide to the Stock Market: Everything You Need to Start Making Money Today
When I was about 20, I picked up a book called "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" by Andrew Tobias. That book opened a whole new world for me, and led to a lifelong (profitable) fascination with investing and trading. Unfortunately, I eventually lost (or tossed) that book, and have wished I could find it again, even though it is definitely outdated.

Matthew Kratter's book is the same kind of book, only, perhaps, better. He summarizes many different approaches to investing and trading, and provides solid tips and resources to get started, including some of his own books (fair enough). Whether you want to start with the blue chip world of buy-and-hold dividend collection, or try the more active world of options trading--or something in between--there is something here for you. Looking back over my highlights, I find advice as diverse as the simple "Only losers average losers" to more advanced concepts such using a stock's float to make trading decisions.

I have three boys who are entering the workforce and ready to start investing. I think I know what I'll give them for stocking stuffers this Christmas.

I totally loved this book and felt like it was timely even for my adult life! I would read this to my children not only because the pictures are absolutely adorable but because it teaches them that it's totally fine to try new things so that they can figure out what they like and what they are good at and that it's ok to not be successful the first time around when trying out new things. I also really want my children to know that they can ask me, their friends or anyone else that they trust to help them in their exploration. The rhymes in the story are fun to read and kids will love them. As a mom and aunt, I'm so glad that I bought this book and would do it again. It's on Kindle too.

C-.

I cannot recommend this book. If you are a student with little knowledge of some basic business concepts, and you get this for $1, then maybe but there are far better books to read.

I usually love anything with the "Virgin" brand attached to it, but this seemed a mish-mash, rushed, stew that should have been a book but is undercooked.

Don't bother.
Helping Children with Dyslexia: 21 Super Strategies to Ensure Your Child's Success at School (Paperback) - Common
Helping Children with Dyslexia: 21 Super Strategies to Ensure Your Child's Success at School (Paperback) - Common
I have a 10 year old who is mildly dyslexic and has problems with Maths (dyscalculia I discovered from this book). I haven't finished it all yet but what I have read (about two thirds) is superb. I have struggled to get my daughter's school to take me seriously as she does not have much difficulty with reading; although spelling is a problem area. I feel that she was coping well up until about the age of 7 and is now being left behind. It has been so useful to read practical things we can do to not only help getting the school to pay attention but also ways to support and encourage our daughter while we try. I know that as I don't have any dyslexic tendencies myself; I have not always been as patient as I should have been and I've really gained an insight into how my daughter is thinking and feeling. I know that we will still have hard times ahead; but I can honestly say that I feel empowered now and I cannot sing the praises of this book enough!!!

Let It Go: Your Guide to a Simpler, More Serene Life
I absolutely love my special edition "Let It Go" issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. I devoured it the second I laid hands on it and I am loving all of the tips offered inside.

My advice to readers would be to take the quiz found in the front of the magazine (How to use this guide). It helps you navigate the issue and giving you actionable steps to help manage your stress based on your answers.

My responses led me to be known as a "Wise Worrier", couldn't be more fitting. I have already tried several steps including Loving Kindness and Walking Meditation and I am feeling much more relaxed and centered. It's funny because I have tried, and failed, adding meditation to my routine before but I just can't seem to calm my mind while I am sitting still. I had no idea there were alternative methods.

Thank you, O, Mag for helping this stress out mama find some inner peace.

*I received a complimentary advanced copy of this issue courtesy of Oprah Magazine. It was not tied to my giving a review and receiving it did not affect my opinion of the issue or the contents of this review.
Just a Lucky So and So
Just a Lucky So and So
Biography picture books are so much fun to read and Just a Lucky So and So does not disappoint. Louis Armstrong began life in what many would consider to be a rough start: living in poverty, working hard manual labor to help earn money for his family, and having a number of run-ins with the law causing him to be sent away to a home for boys. However Louis found the sound of jazz at a young age. He started playing a tin horn and then with a five-dollar loan he was able to purchase a second-hand cornet. Over time and with mentorship Armstrong’s musical ability opened doors for him. He traveled throughout the United States and Europe, recorded records in Hollywood, and performed on Broadway.

Lesa Cline-Ransome has packed numerous examples of figurative language throughout the story; while James Ransome has created illustrations that lift off the page. There are many famous musicians from New Orleans, musical instruments and terms mentioned in the book. Making this a great read aloud for elementary music teachers. After reading the book students would benefit from listening to Louis Armstrong play. Finally inside the back cover are additional books, places to visit, and websites for students to research.

Enjoying all the Bootleg Series so far, haven't got 11 yet but it's going to take a lot to beat this one.

I'm a big fan of Dylan's newer recordings, especially "Love and Theft" and "Modern Times" so an album of outtakes and live recordings from that last twenty years is for me. Favourite track has to be the live version of High Water - almost worth it just for that. This is a must buy for fans of Dylan's later years.

DON'T LET YOUR EYES DECEIVE YOU. I noticed that a majority of the top reviews mention the "inconsistent packaging" and I just watched to say that it is packaged by weight. Not until the bottle is full or something. Some of the crystals are heavier than others so the bottle appears to have less in it.

Don't believe me? Grab a kitchen scale and find out for yourself.

This should not deter anyone from buying this amazing powder either! If there's less in a bottle, you'll need a little less for your project because I've found that the bottles with less in them have a more powerful pigment punch. I mixed it with epoxy resin and got some beautiful results.
The bottles with a little more in them required a little more powder to get the desired color while the bottles with less in them required less to get the desired color. So... It all balances out in the end.

It holds a glow for a very long time and it is so bright that the glow can be seen in the day time. Also... UV ≠ Blacklight. I used my UV light for curing nails to get a faster and longer lasting result because the flashlight that is included takes forever. But if it was as strong as a nail curing light, I'd expect a much higher price tag. If you're really interested in the UV effects, buy a UV light. The vibrant colors are pretty much enough for me on their own, however, so the glow in the dark wasn't a top priority for me.

Maybe some of these reviews were written by some people who applied a little too much resin and didn't bother with any safety precautions because they seem to be missing some brain cells. I've never seen a glow in the dark ANYTHING as powerful as these powders. If they were trying to deceive the consumer and put a random amount in each bottle, why would the product picture literally show bottles with different amounts? It comes with a card explaining that they fill by weight and I'm pretty sure that's mentioned in the description as well.

Personally I loved / love these powders and would highly recommend them. The bottles themselves are SUPER. They have two options for pouring, one side is normal and the other side has a piece of plastic covering it with some holes punched in it to slow the flow when you pour it out. Never had powder that convenient.

Also, if you are working with any chemicals that put off fumes... Please wear a respirator or work in a well ventilated area. Your brain will thank you. Reading reviews for resin supplies was funny at first, but let's face it. Burning out your brain really isn't funny at all. Open a window, turn on a fan, whatever it takes. It's scary how many housewives making tumblers or even painting their nails sound like high school burn outs. Toxic fumes are toxic. Be safe!

Also since now my review sounds like another crazy... Caffeine ≠ breathing toxic fumes. I wear a 3M series 6000 respirator, use two fans, and open all the windows. You know. Just for the record.
Thanos: Zero Sanctuary
Thanos: Zero Sanctuary
This is a retrospective story, on how Gamora grew up to become the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy. Naturally, they used the Infinity War movie as a guide. After all, Marvel belongs to Disney now.
However, company presidents and vice presidents know nothing about comic books or comics fans. They don't know that conforming to movies never works. (See the X-men and Spider-Man) Movies come and go, and are forgotten or out of date - but comics go on.
As for the story, we see Gamora living with Thanos in his first starship, a rattletrap affair ready to fall apart, and the early days of Thanos' lieutenants.
This is not an action-packed story, but a kind of coming of age tale, plus origin.
The story holds up, and the art is okay, but it's not one of the greats.
For Thanos completists or to catch on a super sale.

NCAA Triple Spirit Stickersncaa Triple Spirit Stickers, Red, White, Black, 3 Team Stickers
Perfect product for what I was looking for. I wanted a decent sized sticker to show off my fandom while having my morning (or afternoon) coffee.

As pictured, I have one of the stickers attached to the yeti 10 oz. ‘rambler’ and the adhesion has been top notch.

I was originally worried about cleaning the cup after use because I didn’t want the sticker to peel off or get a nasty feel to it. I can confidently say after numerous hand washes with a touch of soap and some elbow grease (immediately dry after) that the sticker will stay on your products through the elements.

Overall, great sticker pack and one that will have a long life.
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!
Give or take a few hours, exactly 60 years and two days ago I was read my first Dr, Seuss book, Happy Birthday to You! My mother read it to me as a bed time story the night before my birthday. I want to say that waking early that day I may re-read it to myself, or maybe the pictures tell the story so well, it only felt like reading. The problem was that I more than a little expected to be greeted by the Great Birthday Bird of Katroo. The rest of the day I was aware of a serious lacking of unlimited hot dogs on a continuous spool. Since then I have made up for it with the occasional splurge at sumptuous brunches, or what the Birthday people of Katroo called a Smorgasbord. To be fair I never developed much skill at eating with my feet.

A half dozen decades later this book remains very much first in my memory of all Dr Seuss. It exceeds with wonderful fluid drawings, whimsy, and fun forced rhymes (Best and Dressed, in fact you can always add an ‘est’ anytime you need a rhyming word). The Happy Birthday book is my favorite, the one I most remember and one I just treated myself by re reading.

Ryan, where ever you are, if you wonder who got your copy: I am I. And I hope you have at least 50 more happy birthdays.

The Undiscovered Zane Grey Fishing Stories
The Undiscovered Zane Grey Fishing Stories
The title for this book is erroneous, in that these stories had to be "discovered". They have always been out there and some of them had appeared in other anthologies over the years. With perhaps the exception of "The Fisherman" which Zane Grey gave to the editors of Outdoor America to be published free of charge, these stories are known elsewhere. But I must say, the printing of this short novel is an eye opener, if you do not already know something about Zane Grey. The story is indeed autobiogaphical in nature, as it tells of how Zane Grey came to love fishing, and about some other extra activities he was involved with as he grew to manhood, so much so this novella seems to end rather abruptly---I'll leave it up to you to read for yourself to see what I am talking about. Overall this is a buyable book; it does include biographical information many people will not know about Zane Grey, and not all the stories are fishing related. This is a good representation of him in his early life, and a book any devotee of Zane Grey should have in their library.
Flora of Middle-Earth: Plants of J.R.R. Tolkien's Legendarium
Flora of Middle-Earth: Plants of J.R.R. Tolkien's Legendarium
Insightful and light and entertaining to read. Tolkien's love of plants and nature, expressed throughout his vast legendarium, helps us dive into his created world and makes it more believable. Flora of Middle-Earth not only contextualizes both real and invented plants according to their biomes, tracing parallels between our very real (and endangered) ecosystems and those of Middle-Earth, but also maps Middle-Earth's plants by place and according to their importance in the stories in which they appear. The woodcut illustrations are beautiful and help us identifying the plants and remembering the passages in which they become crucial points of Tolkien's narrative. It's a great book for all those interested in going further into Tolkien's universe, and I believe it'll be especially insightful to those interested in writing fantasy stories, as it illustrates well how the world we live in can help build a more believable fantasy world if we pay more attention to nature.
C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia
C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia
I teach Lewis' Space Trilogy and Narnia Chronicles in different college courses and have, in the past, shown _The Magic Never Ends_ as an introduction to Lewis' life and beliefs. _The Magic Never Ends_ is very good, but a bit long and in need of some editing. I do value its unflinching declaration of Lewis' beliefs and clear articulation of the gospel.

_Beyond Narnia_ is dramatized - narrated by an older Lewis and complemented with flashbacks. It is a wonderful overview of Lewis' life and struggles - entertaining and accessible, engaging and moving. It wraps you into his life and makes you care about his struggles and triumphs. At the same time it presents his faith clearly, though it doesn't discuss Christianity with as much force as _The Magic Never Ends_. I especially appreciate that, though _Beyond Narnia_ deals with Joy's death and Lewis' reaction as outlined in _A Grief Observed_ it, unlike _Shadowlands_, clearly shows that Lewis returned to his faith in God.

My class of adult degree-completion students absolutely loved this film, and I did too. It's a basic, clear depiction with great emotional impact that stays very true to who Lewis was and the life he lived.

Force 10 from Navarone
Force 10 from Navarone
Having read "Where Eagles Dare" I thought I'd try another of MacLean's books and boy, am I glad I did! From the first page I was hooked as I read about Mallory and his band of SOE Operatives (along with a little help from a little Greek) running rampage across an island in the Aegean against the local German garrison...the plot never lets up and you feel like you're one with the characters...a characteristic of all the most engaging books. Sure, it's slightly unbelievable in places, but the pace and ferocity of the story keeps you hooked until you've finished it.

If you're thinking of getting this then my advice is go for it, you can pick up a second hand copy for a couple of quid.
Montana SEAL Daddy (Brotherhood Protectors Book 7)
Montana SEAL Daddy (Brotherhood Protectors Book 7)
Daphne was on her 'honeymoon' alone, her fiancé had died before the wedding but she had made the promise to go. She met Boomer when she was crying her heart out and they quickly became friends. Things were fun with someone to share experiences with and those fun days turned to steamy nights as well. It was her last night when she slipped from his bed not wanting to say good-byes that she witnessed a murder. Chuck saved her from being discovered by the killer taking her into protective custody to save her life.

Boomer now works for Brotherhood Protectors, his first assignment is to help in the protection of a woman and her child. The other person protecting her, Chuck, was also a SEAL but works for some undisclosed agency. The thing Boomer doesn't know is that the child is his.
This is a favorite scene as they settle into the safe house, and Daphne corners him as he gets the generator started.

Many hold your breath and hang on tight scenes as things heat up in more ways than one.

Suspenseful and tense, laughter and tears, you won't be able to stop turning the pages.

I love all the Brotherhood Protectors and Chuck quickly became a favorite too.

I am now reading the next book in this series.

Klasse.
Trigger Mortis: With Original Material by Ian Fleming
Trigger Mortis: With Original Material by Ian Fleming
The main draw to this novel is that it contains original material written by Ian Fleming, which fact screams across the cover. As it turns out, this original material is limited to the car race early in the book and has been re-worked so it’s not in its original form. The rest of the book contains flaccid writing and an obsession with brand names and detailed explanations of products and procedures that do nothing but slow down the story.

Ian Fleming was the first writer to mention actual brand-named products in his novels. These references were peppered in and added a sense of authenticity to the goings-on. However, Anthony Horowitz doesn’t seem to understand the idea of peppering in; he unloads a barge-full of such references in what can only be seen as a poor imitation of Ian Fleming.

I hate when authors focus on tiny details in an attempt to show that they know the world of spies intimately. On page 227 of the hard-cover edition, C-4 is attributed to British invention. Not true. The British invented RDX during World War II and RDX is a component of all the C-series explosive: C, C-2, C-3, and C-4. However, C-4 (Composition 4) was the specific result of the US military needing a more stable plastic explosive than its predecessors. C-4 went into final production in 1958 under patent of Phillips Petroleum, an American company.

Trigger Mortis is vague about the year in which it occurs, but it must be between October 1957 and September 1959, the only years the Vanguard rocket was in use. It is doubtful that the villain, Jason Sin could have gotten his hands on C-4 since C-4 was available only to the military in that timeframe. Since the villain is in league with Russians, it would have been a simple matter to substitute C-4 with Semtex, a variation of C-3 which the Soviets produced in massive quantities during the Cold War. Since the C-4 bombing of New York City is a central point of the novel, you'd think the author would spend five minutes on research and get this straight.

On page 304 the author notes that the trigger finger of Bond’s would-be assassin, now lying dead in the rain, is already tightening with rigor mortis. This is absurd. Rigor mortis does not set in until three or four hours after death, peaks at twelve hours, and dissipates after about thirty-six to forty-eight hours after death. But the author uses this falsehood to justify referring to the tightening finger as trigger mortis. How creative.

The publishing world seems hell-bent on squeezing every last drop out of Ian Fleming’s legacy. But the several authors who have been enlisted to write post-Fleming novels always fall short. I’m sticking with Fleming’s originals.
Sherlock Holmes: Classic Film and Radio Collection (Videobook)
Sherlock Holmes: Classic Film and Radio Collection (Videobook)
Before Robert Downey Jr / Jude Law and Benedict Cumberbatch / Martin Freeman, there was Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.

Basil Rathbone portrayed Sherlock Holmes in fourteen films from 1939 to 1946 and to many his iconic characterization of the Baker Street detective remains the best and is certainly the role Rathbone is best remembered for. I also want to give a shout out to Nigel Bruce’s rather unorthodox but excellent portrayal of Dr. Watson. In the novels, Dr Watson was nearly as intelligent as Holmes and a capable assistant but in these films, Nigel Bruce’s Watson acts buffoonish and seems to get more buffoonish with each film. Despite or perhaps because of his controversial stooging, Nigel Bruce was the perfect foil to Basil Rathbone. They played off each other wonderfully and truly are a dynamic duo.

Speaking of dynamic duos, MPI Home Video has released digitally restored double feature sets for all but four (Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon, The Woman in Green, Terror by Night, and Dressed to Kill) of Rathbone’s fourteen films. I find it odd MPI didn’t choose to pair the films together in chronological order but that gripe aside this set features the excellent pairing of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939) and The Scarlet Claw (1944). The Scarlet Claw is my favorite of the twelve Sherlock Holmes films Rathbone did for Universal. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is also a classic and in my top five favorites.

Video: Both movies are presented in a solid 1:37 full frame transfer. Even though both films are together on one single-sided dual layered dvd the image looks fine. The films are in black and white and overall look relatively clean for their age. I think UCLA really did a commendable job of restoring the films.

Audio: The only audio track is English Dolby Digital 2.0 mono. It is clear sounding and I have no complaints.

Subtitles: English

Extras:
* An Audio commentary by Richard Valley for The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
* A Photo Gallery for The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
* An Audio commentary by David Stuart Davies for The Scarlet Claw.
Starting Over
Starting Over
I thought this book would be more about Olivia and Caspar. Not sure why . . . hhhmmmm maybe because the back of the book implied as much!

Yeah the other characters were interesting and it was nice to revisit some of them and see how they were, but really thought it would be more about Olivia and Caspar's relationship and seeing if they can come back together.

Olivia had some baggage that she needed to deal with from growing up. Seems most of it was because of her mother and not her father as she had originally thought. Of course, that probably won't ever be resolved and she needs to just move on.

I thought Caspar realized the problems and such when he was talking to Molly and she was giving him some insight on people and their problems in dealing with things. Nope, he still comes close to sleeping with Molly. Who by the way seemed like a smart girl saying how she realized he was still wrapped up on his wife and all yet she decided she was going to go for it with Caspar. I so wanted Olivia to have walked in at that point.

Here's Olivia at home, taking care of the kids, dealing with life and responsibilities while Caspar is doing the whole "irresponsible road trip thing." Not to mention picking up a woman when his marital bed wasn't even cold yet!! I couldn't believe that Molly was thinking he was so great and all either. Saying that if Olivia was ever fool enough to let him go again she wouldn't send him back to her. Come on woman!!! As a head doctor she should have known that it takes two to make a marriage work and two to destroy a marriage. How can you even believe that he was the innocent party in all of this especially if he was so eager to get down Molly's pants?

Another real kicker is that Olivia wonders if there were another woman to explain the changes in Caspar. What changes? Maybe the character wasn't developed enough for me to see these changes because of all the other relationships going on in the book. She decides not to even question him about that? Please, if she let all these childhood things affect her for all this time she would definitely question him about that. Of course, if she did or does we as the readers are not priviledged with that conversation. The icing on the proverbial cake was when Caspar was thinking to himself how he was thankful for the second chance Olivia was offering him openly and honestly without any hidden secrets between them. Ummm . . . . HELLO how about Molly? Isn't that a BIG hidden secret which has the potential to blow up in their faces later on??? Of course when it does it may even hurt more.

One other thing - what the heck was in that letter that Ben got that he needed to spout off that it was lies and burn it in the fire? Is that another tail for another book?
Harry Potter 1.65" Die-cast Metal Collectible Figures 20-Pack Wave 3, Toys for Kids and Adults
Harry Potter 1.65" Die-cast Metal Collectible Figures 20-Pack Wave 3, Toys for Kids and Adults
Costing only about a buck-per-fig, this is the most accessible way to collect HP miniatures. At approximately 1/43 scale, in addition to being great toys these are great for collectors, O-Gauge model railroaders and even creative wargamers.

This third wave is just as good as the last and though there are again some repeats, if you liked wave 1 and 2, you'll love these.

The detail isn't as fine as a high-end miniature and yes, if you're rough with them the paint will chip -just the same as paint chips off of a die cast toy car when you smash them together- but that shouldn't detract from these. For those who think these are expensive, compare them to the price of Funco mini figures, LEGO minifigures, Knight Miniatures Harry Potter game figures or Department 56 figurines (the last two being rather high-end). All of which are far more expensive and more limited in variety.

You can't beat the price or variety of the Jada Nano MetalFigs Harry Potter figures.

Who Killed Albus Dumbledore?: What Really Happened in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? Six Expert Harry Potter Detectives Examine the Evidence.
I admit that I rushed through Book 6 of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," basically taking in the plot as it was presented on the surface and without considering much of what I already knew about the way J.K.Rowling has worked in creating the series. "Who Killed Albus Dumbledore" was a real awakening for me to the clever, layered and nuanced ways in which this series has unfolded, and to the deceptive techniques of mis-direction Rowling uses to create suspense and to focus the ideas beneath the surface of what appear to be simple fantasy narratives. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to prime themselves for a rewarding reading of Book 7, "...and the Deathly Hallows" (which I'll be reading soon after a careful RE-reading of HBP...).

My little Wizard could not be happier Ron is one of his favourite characters. He comes everywhere with us even shopping, my son also plays with him more than twice a day. He really loves this doll. He is made really well, they should last a lifetime.
Spin: The Rumpelstiltskin Musical
Spin: The Rumpelstiltskin Musical
What a delightful experience! I hadn’t “listened” to a musical book before and wasn’t sure it would be for me. I loved it! Imagining the characters and setting sparked my imagination and brought me back to my childhood. I remember my mom reading us classics while my sister, brother and I all sat on the top step of our staircase. Fond memories. This is storytelling at its finest. The voice actors bring the characters to life and the music is spirited, bright and fun. Some might think this recording is for children only. It’s definitely not. The tale is told on a level that will involve the entire family. I’m hoping there will be an illustrated book to match.

*I don't usually do this but I feel compelled to submit the following review because I really, really liked these documentaries and I wish that these people would do more. Did I watch every moment with the same level of interest? No, I did not however, I did not expect to. Did they show how they outfitted and modified their vehicles, camping, and other equipment? Absolutely, but it's not surprising that a venture of this magnitude would need sponsors who would then expect such mention/exposure.
*These guys are not professionals so I did not expect the type of documentary you would see from one filmed by professionals. Although I would have liked it if they could have had it professionally filmed, I would think that that would have prevented their ability to travel into the areas that they did.
*How many of us get together as a group, to set goals of this magnitude and then overcome all of the challenges and obstacles presented to its end? This is a tremendous achievement. I enjoyed the interpersonal relationships they shared on camera as well as the mountains, rivers, tropical forests., beaches, and villages, etc. that they filmed along the way; as well as the interactions they had with the people they met. I sometimes watched in wonderment as they reached their final destinations.

Power Strip,QOLIXM Surge Protector with 6 AC Outlets & 8 USB Ports (5V/10A),1625W/13A,6 Feet Long Extension Cord for Multiple Devices Smartphone Tablet Laptop Computer
This is a definite must product to have if you want a decent surge protector with multiple plugs as well as EIGHT USB charging ports. First thing I will note about this product is that it does not have too much space for power bricks on this. So if you happen to have a huge power brick you want to plug into this., I would recommend not getting this as there is not much space to be plugging those in. That being said it can handle up to six plug in devices at once and it protects your devices in case of overload. It has a good amount of length from the actual device which is nice. You do not have to worry about it being too short. What is nice is that there are holes that you can screw this surge protector into the wall or at the bottom of your desk easily. It is great for hiding cables. This is a great surge protector to have if you happen to have a lot of USB powered device. I have things like my fire stick and my hdmi splitter. The unfortunate part is that it cannot power the fire stick. It does not have the same output as the firestick power brick. It can however power pretty much anything else from chromecast to charging your phone. This does not support fast charging unfortunately but still gives a decent charging time. There were not issues on charging my ipads nor having all the USB ports being used. It all charged the same. With this surge protector, you are not have to look for additional USB ports to plug into. It also makes it very easy to organize your cables a bit easier. You are not having random USB cables trying to plug into random spots or even a USB hub. It can power up to six devices which makes it ideal for your TV or computer setup and having eight usb ports just make it great for all your smaller electronics. This can power my NES classic and raspberry pi without any issues. I normally would use this for my TV setup as there are several things that need power and this makes quick work of that. What is nice is that I can easily mount this against the wall so it hides well behind the television. The overall design is nice but it definitely does not give a ton of room for those devices with power brick plugs at the end of them. They will take up more than three spots even depending on the size of the brick. The plugs inside are very study so you do not have to worry about any cable easily being pulled out. The USB ports are not fast charging though so if you are planning to use this for tablet and phone charging be aware of that. That being said it does have enough power to keep a fire stick on without issue. It does not generate too much eat but keep it in open air if possible. Overall this is a good surge protector to have. You get a TON of plugs and USB ports so you do not have to worry about running out of ports. Be aware to not overload the surge protector and I think this is great device to have.

Cabales - Sujetador deportivo con correas cruzadas y almohadillas extraíbles para mujer (3 unidades)
These bras are very comfortable. If I remember correctly, they do not run to size. I relied on the reviews of previous consumers to help me find the perfect fit.

First of all, as a large-breasted woman, I enjoy a supportive sports bra. I'm not crazy about the ugliness of sports bras. These sports bras have a sexy back, which adds to the enjoyment of wearing them.

The reason I am only giving three stars is because after three washings and wearings of each bra, one of the bras is already unraveling at the seams. As a person of limited means, this is a huge disappointment. I will now have to sew this bra up and I am not a seamstress.

On the plus side, these bras are so comfortable and supportive. I like that they have slight padding, so that those of us with permanip can have that little extra bit of sheilding that one does not normally get from a sports bra.

The pads are removable from a tiny hole. Although, I do not see why one would want to remove them. They reduce the look of permanip effectively, and if they get a bit scrunched up, it is really easy to fix them without removing them.

Sincerely, I would have given these bras five stars, if not for the defective one that unraveled.

Apple MacBook Air MJVE2LL/A - Portátil de 13 pulgadas Core i5, 4 GB de RAM, 128 GB SSD (renovado)
Arrived with many distracting scratches or something in the middle of the display. Little black marks that won't come off. 90 day warranty says they won't accept returns for "cosmetics" so I figured we would just have to deal with it. I spent about 7 or 8 hours transferring all of my gf's nursing school stuff from the PC to the MacBook. Today, we discovered that we can't sign in to iCloud, iMessage or FaceTime (even with a valid Apple ID). After several hours of trying troubleshooting from the internet, we caved in and called Apple support.

After about a half hour on the phone with them, they found that whomever "refurbished" this macbook formatted the SSD incorrectly. I had to completely erase the SSD in order to reformat it to the correct format. I lost all of that time spent transferring yesterday.....but it gets worse. After having erased the drive, reformatting it and trying to "restore" it to an older OS so I could properly upgrade it, it bricked. I now have a $700 paperweight that I can't return.

KIDPAR 60Pcs Christmas Card Money Holder in 5 Holiday Cute Festive Designs 30 Christmas Greeting Cards & 30 Envelopes
These inexpensive Kidpar Christmas Cards/Money Holders were available to me through the Amazon Vine program. The cards came in cellophane, separated into 5 sections by card design. The cards are fairly cheap quality; they’re thin and the insides are somewhat yellowed. The cards can hold dollar bills (loosely; won’t fit in slots), and have slots for 2 gift cards. Personally, I think if you only give one gift card, it looks like a gift card is missing from the other set of slots. Regardless, most kids are more interested in the contents of the cards ($$$) than the cards, so these will work. These cards are made in China.
MOJO Black Faced Sheep Ram Realistic Farm Animal Hand Painted Toy Figurine
MOJO Black Faced Sheep Ram Realistic Farm Animal Hand Painted Toy Figurine

OnePlus 7T Glacier Blue (8GB RAM+256GB Storage)
OnePlus 7T Glacier Blue (8GB RAM+256GB Storage)
After reading a lot of geeky reviews on YouTube and portals, I bought Oneplus7t. Pls, note I have been using OnePlus from last many years now so my expectations were clear. My experience with the device says that most of the reviews or unboxing things are influenced. Pls, note I have bought it with my own money unlike leading reviewers or unboxing video geeks who get it for free. So pls don't go by them blindly. Go for users reviews who bought them with their own money. So I am writing my 5 days experience with the phone.
I am not a gamer or a geek. A regular user who wants to do all the office work on the phone, social media, blogging and vlogging, etc.
The last OnePlus phone I was using was Oneplus 5 and was quite happy with it until it screen got broken and replacement cost was higher than the selling price of the device itself.

The day it arrived from Amazon I opened it with a lot of excitement which continued till I have held it in my hands.
Here are the issues:
1. Weight: It weighed too much I felt like holding a brick. And it is thick. When I hold it in one hand for a few minutes I get a deep red pit in my hand (due to blood circulation).
2. Camera: Then I had to go for a conference there I tried clicking pictures. Picture quality did not come out well. Still, I thought it may be light or background because of my previous experiences I could not believe it to be not good. So I continued clicking pictures which really missed detailing. As you zoom in it will make it blurred. I have clicked a magazine cover picture with my Oneplus 5 which had only 16 MP camera but pic quality was natural and good. It clicks blur pics may it has to do with image Stabilization.
3. Battery: Battery is avg. All those time I teased my iPhone or Samsung Series colleagues and friends for their battery life. Welcome to the league. This offers an avg battery life. I never carried a charger with me in previous models if I Start with 90% even after two years. But here I have to carry it even for the average usage. I m wondering what would be this phone battery life in a year or more.
4. 90 Hz refresh rate is a gimmick to sell this device. It will give you fluid experience but the soon it consumes battery you will always prefer to keep it to 60hz which is an option given in the display settings. If you always stick to a desk or have a power source around you can keep it to 90hz. Not for people who are on the move most of the time. Don't fall for it.
5. Sound: It's average. Phone calls are not crisp and clear. At times the caller's voice gets hazy and husky. Voice is even audible to person the person sitting next to me. Even on lower volumes. Speakers volume is loud but the sound quality is not good.
6. No premium-feeling anymore. With multiple variants, it has joined the league of Samsung, Mi, Oppo, Vivo. Now they are launching 7t pro on Oct 10 again it is a disappointment for those who bought 7t on day 1. Maybe their R&D or trials have some problem here that in every two months they are launching a new device with an update to the previous faults. Like OnePlus 7 has voice receiver on one side which is right. So if you take calls or hear the phone from left you won't get a clear voice or volume. So they added receivers on both the side in this device.

I am still not getting why I have spent Rs 40,000 on it. No camera quality, no battery life, no sound quality on calls, getting wounds on holding it for long.

I have always recommended OnePlus devices to everyone around and had high hopes and trust on the brand that I bought it on the day of the launch but with this experience, I won't recommend OnePlus 7t to my colleagues and friends who are planning to upgrade their devices.

I tried this for the 1st time this evening and served it on top of some Bismati Rice. I bought it from my local store though. It was very good! I will definitely purchase it again. Very fast preparation time too... only 1 minute in the microwave. I recommend this one because it was surprisingly tasty.

Vornado QUBE50 Air Purifier for Home, Bedroom and Office-True HEPA Filter to Remove [99.97% of Allergens], Eliminates Pet, Smoke, Dander-3-Step Filtration Process, Small, White
I own 2 Vornado fans and I am very happy with them. I had a cheaper air purifier in my sons room and it was not up to the task of filtering enough air plus the design was not the greatest. I gave the Vornado a shot because the price was reasonable and it looked high quality. This is another home run for Vornado as the quality is what I expected from this company. Solid feet that you have to install but give it the quality look you expect. The buttons are easy to understand and this air purifier can really exchange the air in a medium sized room quickly. I usually keep it on level 2 most of the time but when I need a little extra boost this thing can perform at that level as well. I have no complaints with this unit. I also have 3 other air purifiers and this one looks the most premium and performs well. I love all my Vornado products and this is no exception.
Swann's Way: In Search of Lost Time, Vol. 1 (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)
Swann's Way: In Search of Lost Time, Vol. 1 (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)
"Swann's Way" is the first installment in Marcel Proust's multi-volume "In Search Of Lost Time" (formerly "Remembrance Of Things Past"). "Swann's Way" was finished in 1912 and first published in 1913. The publisher submitted it to a writing contest, but it didn't win.

"Swann's Way" was written originally in French. The first English translation appeared in 1922 (the year of Proust's death). This translation is part of a long-term project by Penguin Books to create a brand new English translation of "In Search" using a team of translators. The entire project was published in Britain in 2002. US saw the release of the first four volumes in 2004. But the US will not see the rest of the series until 2019 at the earliest. (The British releases of the remaining volumes can still be purchased through Amazon.)

This is my first experience with Proust. Proust is not a story-teller like John Steinbeck or Mark Twain. Instead he spends a lot of time observing what's around him and describing what he sees in highly poetic language. You'll see long discussions about the weather, the wildflowers and the trees, the clothes people wear, the vehicles they travel in, and the music they listen to. Proust makes many references to classical music like Mozart, Liszt and Wagner.

"Swann's Way" contains three sections: Combray, Swann In Love, and Place Names: The Name.

"Combray" is a boy's memoir of life in Combray, a small French town. It has no real plot. The famous "madeleine" is a desert cake dipped in tea that the narrator bites into and suddenly remembers many forgotten memories of his past. The boy narrator talks about his love of reading and infatuation with the theater, his reclusive grand-aunt Leonie Octave, his housekeeper Francoise, the evening visits of Swann, and his obsession with getting goodnight kisses from his mom. "Combray" explains the book's title: there are two walking paths out of Combray. One of those paths runs past the home of Swann, and is therefore nicknamed "Swann's Way."

"Swann In Love" has been described as a novel in a novel. But again it read more like a memoir than a real story. The section takes place before the events in "Combray."

Swann is a well-to-do socialite who is invited to the Verdurins' soiree by fellow socialite Odette de Crecy. Swann falls in love with Odette but he is infatuated and eventually lapses into obsession. He finds himself spying on her, stalking her, stealing her mail, and using her friends to gain information. Amazingly, Odette continues to see Swann as a friend, but he just uses these occasions to pry into her past affairs and rumors of lesbianism. Not surprisingly, she drifts away from him.

"Place-Names: The Name" is the shortest section (supposedly truncated per publisher's directions), and could be retitled "The Narrator In Love." It is yet another memoir of another man (actually a boy) in love with none other than Swann's daughter Gilberte (the name). The boy is not as obsessed as Swann was, but nevertheless causes much stress for his poor governess when he insists on walking to various places in Paris in the off chance of finding Gilberte.

Proust is one of those authors that, like fruits & vegetables, is supposed to ‘good' for you. Fortunately, Proust is not avant-garde or experimental, and his language is straightforward and not that hard to understand (probably because the translator made it so). Even Proust's famously long sentences are heavily punctuated, so they aren't too hard to follow.

Since "Swann's Way" is a classic, I'm going to leave it to the scholars to rate the novel itself.

But five stars go to Lydia Davis' readable translation, the highly informative intro, the detailed footnotes, and the attractive book design.
