The 4 Lenses of Innovation: A Power Tool for Creative Thinking
The 4 Lenses of Innovation: A Power Tool for Creative Thinking
If you do not listen to your customers, failure is certain. But if you limit yourself to what they tell you, failure will be devastating. Henry Ford understood this more than 100 years ago: people wanted faster horses, not revolutionary and innovative transport systems.

In this book, the reader is engaged from the first chapter. Consistent with what has been Gibson’s mantra for many years, the book seeks to reaffirm his message: innovation, as well as quality, customer service, etc., must be "embedded" in all organizations, because companies without innovative culture are left behind sooner rather than later.

In ancient times, people believed that the creativity and ability to innovate was a divine inspiration granted to few. Hence, poets, philosophers and artists looked toward the "Muses", goddesses of inspiration.

Archimedes’s "Eureka" however, was not the result of divine inspiration that occurred while he was in the now famous bathtub. He was a physicist, mathematician, engineer, astronomer and inventor. When the King asked him to confirm whether the goldsmith had stolen part of the gold he was given for the new crown, Archimedes could not find a way to measure the volume of such irregular body. While soaking in the tub, he saw the water level rising and concluded that the displaced volume was equal to the volume of the submerged body: "Eureka". With the volume and weight of the crown, he found that its density was less than that of gold, and therefore the goldsmith was actually a thief.
Rowan describes how everything became clearer with the European Renaissance. With the birth of humanism, mankind began to understand that scientific or artistic creation depended exclusively on the education and skills of each person.

As the individual grew in terms of self-esteem and self-confidence, an explosion of artistic and scientific developments happened that substantially improved the quality of life of mankind. Human beings, rather than gods, became the center of the universe. The mind was set free and the spark of creativity was lit. Science and technological advances ceased to be a violation of the divine order. You could challenge the orthodoxy.

Rowan analyzes the way Petrarch, "The Father of Humanism and the Renaissance" recognized the new trends of the time: obscurantism and darkness during the Middle Ages were gradually left behind and the new challenges to be faced would later bring along more prosperous years.

The story of how Gutenberg integrated different skills and knowledge to create the printing press is fascinating. Just like Steve Jobs, with his privileged view, managed to integrate various technologies to develop the iPod and other "gadgets" that made him famous. Both did leverage in resources already available.

H. Ford invented an unclaimed and unneeded machine. Leonardo da Vinci, with his brilliant mind and insatiable curiosity, designed the parachute, submarine, helicopter and many other machines and appliances that nobody needed at the time, but were crucial to improving the quality of life of humankind.

Thanks to this four lenses, we will be able to unravel the desired tomorrow from our day to day lives.
30th Anniversary Concert Celebration [Deluxe Edition]
30th Anniversary Concert Celebration [Deluxe Edition]
Ironic to think that this set - recorded in October 1992, was celebrating Dylan's 30th anniversary as a recording artist, and here we are in 2016, another quarter of a century plus later, and Dylan's just released a new album. Anyway, I bought both the deluxe vinyl and CD version of this set. I have reviewed the vinyl, and all I would like to add is that this album has an added poignancy when you consider that several of the performers - Richie Havens, Lou Reed, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, Johnny Winter, members of The Band - are now gone. And Dylan is still with us. Some great songs here - and the odd indifferent performance, but overall a worthy celebration of Dylan's enduring talent.
Theme Time Radio Hour: Season 3 with your Host Bob Dylan
Theme Time Radio Hour: Season 3 with your Host Bob Dylan
While Ace's take on Theme Time Radio Hour provided access to a number of gems, not the least of which was Mary Gauthier's incredible "I Drink" this third two-disc set is far less eclectic with a number of tracks - Elvis' "Little Sister", Bessie Banks "Go Now", The Crickets' original of "I Fought The Law", together with the Fats Domino and Willie Nelson tracks widely available. While there are obscurities like Jerry Lee Lewis' "Lust of the Blood", these are forgettable rather than unheard gems. So, with the apparent decision to call it quits at Volume 3, Ace will move its formidable talents onto other activities - including a planned 2011 CD of unissued Stax tracks from Booker T. and the MGs.
Bob Dylan - Really Easy Piano
Bob Dylan - Really Easy Piano
Four stars for moment. Up date now below
Looks OK but the first song I went to play Lay Lady Lay is in the wrong key being C major the Dylan original version is in B minor I have needed to edit all the written music to the correct key.
The C Major version does not sound right at all.
I am hoping this is the only song scored in the incorrect Key .
Further to the above I have now discovered a Byrds cover was released in C major in playing along with the byrds track in C major the song does sound right , however I wish the score was written in the original Dylan key
Java 8 Lambdas: Functional Programming For The Masses
Java 8 Lambdas: Functional Programming For The Masses

JavaScript: The Definitive Guide: Master the World's Most-Used Programming Language
JavaScript: The Definitive Guide: Master the World's Most-Used Programming Language
I first approached JS by buying Eloquent JavaScript and after few chapters I got completely demotivated in continuing studying from that book. Simple concepts were made outrageously complex whereas complex topics didn’t get the treatment they deserved. I then tried few online Udemy courses which were great but can never be as organized as a book.
Then the new edition of Flanagan’s JS guide was released. This book is not an easy bedtime reading. There are tons of concepts to learn there which are often recursive in different chapters, ie you can’t really skip or change the topic sequence of the book.
However I think that the author does a v good job in helping readers understating via precised and short code examples.
So far this is the best book I read on the subject. It is also updated with the latest lexicon of ES6. Remember JavaScript is a living language which get regularly updated and enriched. Books which were good 5yrs ago might not be relevant today any longer. Definitely recommended to whoever is serious in learning the language.
Coding Projects with Mark Lassoff
Coding Projects with Mark Lassoff
I've been following Mark's classes on different platforms, got a few certifications (Javascript and HTML5) via FrameworkTV and his content is always presented in a simplified manner and clear, great for the beginners and intermediate developers as well, as there is always something new to learn. Coding made fun and simple.
Slow Train Coming by Dylan, Bob Original recording remastered edition (2004) Audio CD
Slow Train Coming by Dylan, Bob Original recording remastered edition (2004) Audio CD
There is a lot I would like to write about people reviewing records, Cd's and music in general but that would be USELESS. The point I'm would like to make is: review should be about each particular edition of each particular album or record on a particular medium. People, at least 90% (or most of them) , are buying because they know this particular piece of music or the artist, they've chosen to buy. So for all of you who are writing abut the history or discography and detailed biography of any artist - it is a waste of time, do not brag about your knowledge, who cares?
What I'm interested in is the quality of a particular edition of a particular album or record. How does it sound in comparison to the original. Period.
That said I'll write about this album, one of my very favorite records which I own already in three different formats.
First of all - it is (my copy of course), junk, crap, absolute rip of, this record released by Music on Vinyl (yes, Amazon specifies the label, as "International") it is nicely packaged, but the quality or lack of it is disheartening. The background noise is just awful, there are pops and clicks just like on an old, used record. I hoped for improved sound and what I've go is piece of vinyl junk. My old "overplayed" copy sound much better and "Cleaner" than this. For the same reason I just requested refund for recently released record by ULTRAVOX - Vienna (I was promised a good copy by the seller as a refund - I shall find out.) Same goes for this record, I'll be requesting refund or replacement.
Music on this album should 5 stars, but for the quality of the pressing gets 1, although it should be - 0
I buy a lot of music on Amazon and most of it is Vinyl or SACD, because of the quality of sound, I wish all of the music or at least my favorite album and records would be released on SACD or downloadable hi resolution files, just to avoid this kind of problems.
Yes, Vinyl Rules!!!
Unfortunately there are a lot of people trying to take advantage of music lovers. Just like the "artists" from Music On Vinyl.
Wedigout Metal Detector MD-4030 Pro Edition Hobby Explorer Waterproof Search Coil with Shovel
Wedigout Metal Detector MD-4030 Pro Edition Hobby Explorer Waterproof Search Coil with Shovel
This metal detector is sold by several Brands but it is the identical metal detector with the same model number. So you can technically find one that is priced better, and comes with accessories you desire. I do like the metal detector itself. Like all modern metal detectors it is very lightweight, which means it's also made out of thin aluminum and plastic. Honestly I rather have a sturdier product that weighs a little more, but that's a thing of the past.

This metal detector does find lots of metal. I only used it for approximately 15 minutes and I found about seven items. I also spent some time testing it out on different metals, and I found it is possible to find gold with it. The settings have to be set to find all metals and the power switch needs to be turned all the way up. You will find every type of metal at these settings but it's the only way I was able to detect my test gold. And gold does give a distinct beeping sound that is impossible to miss. However with this metal detector as well as others the gold would have to be near the surface of the ground may be no more than 2 inches deep.

I really liked the headphones that came with it. They are available for purchase by the manufacturer for only $5.95. They have a cloth cord with a volume control. The volume control is very handy and necessary, sense the volume on the metal detector does not go very low.

The shovel however is not worth much of anything. I tried to use it one time, pushed it into the ground and it bent. It is very small and can only be used with your hands. Which makes it even more disappointing that it bent with just the force of my hand. I found the shovel for sale by the manufacturer for $9.95. I did see a video where someone was using the shovel in the sand with a colander to sift the sand. That's about all it's good for. The compass on it didn't work either. The carrying bag for the shovel was also very flimsy. This appears to be the same shovel that is given away with every metal detector I looked at. Which is to bad sense it's practically worthless. I'd much rather would have had a sand scoop as the free accessory.

The metal detector itself is pretty easy to put together. It does come with some extra parts that are particularly flimsy just in case you break them. But they're the same parts that are on all the metal detectors I looked at. I believe this metal detector is a good choice for children to start with as well as beginners. I would categorize this one as a beginner to intermediate model. It will work well to find coins and trinkets at the beach, or even your backyard. This could definitely be the only metal detector you'll ever need.

I do recommend doing some research before purchasing. Check the height measurements, check the free accessories, and just make sure it will fit your needs.
The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk
I do not wish for my review to sound biased or one-sided, but I still enjoy this film all these years later. I saw the 2003 Hulk, and although it has one or two good moments, the desert scene imparticular, it fell short. Dry story and an overly exaggerated and neon Hulk. I've seen the Avengers, and Mark Ruffalo just does not capture the struggle of being Bruce in my opinion.

Here, our movie starts of with Ed Norton portraying the titular character in Brazil (picking up where the 2003 story left off). He poor, depressed about not being able to go home, maintaining a very low profile to avoid the public eye at all costs; I felt for this version of Bruce Banner. I did his best to stay calm, but when push came to shove and then pushed some more, Hulk pushed back!!! The creators of this film said they wanted their Hulk to have a giant, green linebacker look, and it works! Hulk is intimidating, powerful, above all angry, and I still get chills hearing him speak for the first time from the shadows.

I would have preferred for Ed Norton to continue this role, but alas, Hollywood. The story for the film is not overly complex. It runs like a long episode of the old tv show. Bruce is trying to stay away from the army, he slips up, and they go after him again. The movie is excellent by itself but definitely ties into the early days of the MCU. If you have never seen this film, I highly recommend it!

Lastly, love the steelbook comic book design. Check it out in the photos.
Cruel and Unusual
Cruel and Unusual
The story of the Angola 3 is one of the most compelling stories of our time. At the height of this unprecedented institutional chaos, Albert Woodfox, Herman Wallace, and Robert King were charged with murders they did not commit and thrown into 6x9 foot solitary cells, where they remained for decades. The story of the Angola 3 has exposed the use of long term solitary in the Louisiana State Penitentiary system and has brought attention to this issue nationwide and internationally. Their struggle for justice continued until Robert was released in 2001, Herman in 2013, and Albert in 2016. We must stop solitary confinement. We can make a difference . Like the Angola 3, now is the time to challenge injustice and demand that the innocent and wrongfully incarcerated be freed.
Welcome to Planet Earth
Welcome to Planet Earth
Three extraterrestrials leave their beautiful and peaceful planet to vacation on Earth. These blue blooded (literally) aliens look just like us, except that thay have extraordinary strength and are practically invincible. They are a family group, comprised of a set of parents, Charlie (George Wendt) and Rhonda (Shanna Reed), and their nubile, teenage daughter, Daphne (Anastasia Sakelaris). After landing in a depressed area, they rent rooms for an exhorbitant sum. They befriend their landlord, Joseph (Christopher M. Brown), a petty crook now trying to stay on the straight and narrow (lucky for him) by running his mother's boarding house. From there, mom and pop go on the prowl for bad guys. Charles Bronson in "Death Wish" has nothing on them!
This movie is outrageously funny, though somewhat macabre, as these civic minded aliens dispense their own unique brand of criminal justice. The portly George Wendt and the Betty Crockerish Shanna Reed are absolutely hilarious as they act out their vigilante fantasies on our planet. Their delight in doing so is infectious, and their appearance is a clever counterpoint to their actions. Anastasia Sakelaris is terrific as their lovely daughter. English not being her first language, her malapropisms add an additional deft, comedic touch. Christopher M. Brown capably plays the part of Joseph, the landlord who knows that his tenants are a bit off the mark but cannot quite put his finger on it. The only problem with this movie is that the production values are somewhat low. The aliens' space pod looks like it was made in someone's garage, so cheap and shoddy are the production values. Still, this is a movie well worth seeing, as it is just so darn funny.

This mat just arrived today so haven't had time to try it out. My husband was making scones the other day and got in such a mess. The mixture was really sticky and it was everywhere! I saw this and thought it would be just what he needs. It is very large, but can be rolled up for storage. He is looking forward to trying it out tomorrow.

Lazarus vendetta (Serie Covert-One Vol. 5) (Italian Edition)
Lazarus vendetta (Serie Covert-One Vol. 5) (Italian Edition)

Black Jack, Volume 17
Black Jack, Volume 17
I'm a little sad to say that this is the final volume in the amazing Black Jack series. It's been a blast reading Tezuka's series and I'm glad that Vertical decided to take the chance of releasing this series.

Pinoko is the focus of a lot of these stories, which I loved. She's always been my favorite character of the series, mostly because despite her fantastic origin she's been the "every(wo)man" character. Where Black Jack has been the person with almost magical surgical abilities, Pinoko is remarkably normal. (Sure she's a former lump put in a doll's body, but other than that she has nothing else about her that's overwhelmingly extraordinary.) The artwork in this is typical Tezuka, which means that I think it's awesome. I think it's safe to say that Tezuka's artwork is pretty distinctive and it's nice to see something a little different.

I do want to warn you that there's no absolute closure in this series. Like the previous volumes, you can pretty much read this without having read the other volumes. There is one story that refers to a previous volume, but it also goes over everything to where you won't feel like you're missing anything. The end story is a little bittersweet given how it ends (no spoilers!), but I like to think of it as a way of marking a change in the characters' lives.

There is another Black Jack manga series (The Dark Surgeon), and I hope that we will eventually get that through Vertical as well. They've done an excellent job with this volume and with the series as a whole. I absolutely recommend this to anyone interested in Tezuka, classic manga, and/or retro series.

The Gravediggers' Bread (Pushkin Vertigo)
The Gravediggers' Bread (Pushkin Vertigo)
Frédéric Dard was one of the best known French crime writers of the twentieth century. Kudos to Pushkin Vertigo for bringing his classics back to the public. I loved Bird in a Cage and The Gravediggers' Bread is just as good if not better. It's short but intense and I devoured it in a few hours. Blaise is a salesman on his way back to Paris after failing to get a job when he runs into Germaine at the post office of a little village. Her allure makes him accept a position as assistant to an undertaker who also happens to be Germaine's husband. The story could have been a classic from the Nouvelle Vague - dark and full of twists, with unspeakable acts done for love and lust. One little white lie leads to another, bigger one, which leads to an even larger lie. You know Blaise is doomed, but how will it happen? I couldn't stop reading until I found out. And what an ending. Classics are immortal for a reason and this is one great read.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Pushkin Press!
The Book of Lists 2
The Book of Lists 2
David Wallechinsky has had 2 series that he has done a number of titles on: "The People's Almanac" and "The Book of Lists". He has done these with other members of his family (his father was novelist Irving Wallace). This was originally published in 1980 and has guest contributions from notables such as Presidents Reagan and Ford, Grace Kelly, George Foreman, Muddy Waters and many more. The lists range from historical to sports to entertainment to trivia.
Some of the lists are dated by now while others are still fresh. Wallechinsky has continued to write further Books of Lists since this one and some of these lists have been reprinted in more recent editions. It is a very quick read as if one list doesn't interest you (say 8 Unusual Dolphin Incidents), you just move on to the next one. There's bound to be things in here for most people's interests. 4.5 Stars.
A Question of Time: J. R. R. Tolkien's Road to Faerie
A Question of Time: J. R. R. Tolkien's Road to Faerie
J.R.R Tolkien is not just a writer and the Legendarium is not just a creation. Like Dante's Devine comedy or Homer's Odyssey - the Legendarium is a whole world that contains a lot of themes and ideas.

Anyone that read Shippey or Pearce can recite by heart the known themes that exist in LOTR: mythology (Norse, German or even Celtic), Christian, Linguistic or Philosophical theme (Aristo or Neo Renaissance influence etc.). But after you had learned those themes, you are spending a lot of time and effort to find some new themes or new ideas. There are a lot of books about Tolkien and most of them discussing the known themes.

If you want book about those themes, A Question of Time is not the book for you. If you are a novice Tolkien researcher, you should read Shippey, Pearce or Anderson and don't start with this book.

This book contains different themes and ideas. The main theme in this book is about time and dreams, an idea that I never thought about or read it elsewhere. Flieger shows us that LOTR and other Tolkien's creations have a grain of time and time travel inside of them. She backs her theories with powerful examples from LOTR drafts (History of Middle Earth vol. 6-9) and from Tolkien's time travel story (Vol. 5 and 9).

Flieger does convince me that Tolkien thought about time and incorporated his thoughts in LOTR. I was amazed that after reading and researching Tolkien for such a long time, she actually told me something new, something that made me read LOTR and the Legendarium in a different perspective. I had the same feeling after I read Shippey's book and I am sorry to say that few of Tolkien criticism books are giving me the same sense.

To summarize my words: Read Shippey, Pierce, and Hammond & Scull and of course Anderson's annotated Hobbit first. But If you have read those already and you are searching for a new theme - READ THIS BOOK!

Insgesamt gute Unterhaltung.

Gesammelte Werke, Bd.35, Unter Geiern

When you reach the end of any Kindle book you are expected, there and then, to award stars for what you have just read. As a rule I will give an enjoyable work of fiction 4 stars. Later, when considering the book's merit further, one sometimes spots a weakness in the story or in the author's general argument.and want to revise.

This story starts after The Six Day War when Israel faced a combined attack by forces of neighboring Arab countries which had it been successful would have been the end of that country. In the last moments of the War,the pilot of a Mirage fighter is shot down and suffers serious injury to his foot. He is unfit to fly and is sent to London to work for the National Isreali airline. An intelligent but unconventional American girl is persuaded by a shadowy American figure to discover what he is doing and it just so happens he's trying to find a way of obtaining the drawings for the Mirage fighter currently in service with the Israeli Airforce.

Whilst the story is credible you tend to read it as fiction, however well written, because that is what it is, Disbelief is suspended, at least until something arises to change that state of mind. And that did not happen prior to the end. So it got 5 stars for being an enjoyable and exciting read.

There was a small resume of events prior to the ending which was a mix of fact and fiction which added further enjoyment and credibility

So, now that I 've had time to reflect and consider, do I want to mark it as a 4? No,it was a good read and informative about events about which I knew little.

Hope you enjoy this excellent story!
Montana Dog Soldier (Brotherhood Protectors Book 6)
Montana Dog Soldier (Brotherhood Protectors Book 6)
Montana Dog Soldier is a good story with strong female and male leads. Joe aka Kujo is the male hero along with his German Shepherd Six, they are both retired military but being Delta Force makes him never fully retired. Kujo and Six are the newest members of Brotherhood Protectors.
Molly is an FBI agent out in the Crazy Mountains of Montana to find a terrorist training camp, when she is left for dead, Kujo and Six will save her life. Kujo and Molly have a love hate relationship at first as their trying to figure the other out. Once that trust develops, it's on like Donkey Kong. Kujo is one sexy alpha but he is also sweet and caring. Molly is strong, independent but knows when she is over her head and needs help.
if you read any other books in this series than you will see all previous Brotherhood members such as Hank, Taz, Bear, Duke and my favorite Swede. This is actually the first book of the series where all previous books characters had a little role and I loved it. I like when an author writes a series and includes all her characters in the books. I hate reading a series, only to never read about the previous characters. So I am excited James included the men and their woman in Montana Dog Soldier.
Happy Reading! !

EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS: THE BIBLIOGRAPHY
EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS: THE BIBLIOGRAPHY
In June 2008, I purchased a used copy of Bob Zeuschner's first pass at a bibliography of ERB's works. As soon as I opened that first
bibliography by Zeuschner I was enthralled. After studying it and using it to check books in my own collection, I knew then and still believe it
will be hard to find a more definitive compendium of the hardbound works of ERB. On June 10, 2008, two days after I received my copy, I
enthusiastically endorsed the book in an eBay review: "ZEUSCHNER'S LABOR OF LOVE: If you are a fan of the works of Edgar Rice
Burroughs, then this book was meant to rest on your book case. Those of us who love the adventure novels of ERB also tend to be
fascinated by all the miscellany that we can't help but become involved in as we pursue our quest to obtain every work written by this
fascinating author. This book feeds that fascination with wonderful exactness. It concentrates on all the important details that separate the
various hard cover editions, yet covers areas rarely touched by other bibliographers - the Big Little Books, for example. I've just finished
reading all the introductory material and have closely studied the annexes, and am now amending my notes to include Zeuschner's elegantly
simple annotations. Zeuschner's labor of love was worth every penny of its price, and I can't recommend it highly enough."

However, this year, 2016, Mr. Zeuschner has updated his bibliography and released it through a new publisher, ERB Inc. Now take
everything I said above and expand it from a book with a couple of hundred references to a book with a couple of thousand, and then add
hundreds of illustrations in B&W and hundreds more in color. Jim Sullos the CEO of Edgar Rice Burroughs Incorporated had this to say
about the release of this grand work:

"Edgar Rice Burroughs, well known for his tales of Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, has been rightfully dubbed The Master of
Adventure, but few are aware of the full scope of Burroughs’ literary output in a writing career that spanned four decades. During his
lifetime, Burroughs created worlds that ranged from the Earth's core to the Farthest Star, inhabited by larger-than-life heroes and
heroines, populated by unimaginable creatures and captivating landscapes.
“We are absolutely thrilled to publish this very special book, which has been almost twenty years in the making,. . . We opened our
archives to Dr. Zeuschner and he has produced the definitive account of everything published by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This is a one-
of-a-kind illustrated bibliography that should be a must for anyone interested in ERB, the history of pulp fiction and the works that
inspired Superman and every other pulp hero since.”

I've had my copy for a couple of weeks now and use it multiple times each day. It's a marvel, and there is no recommendation high enough to
adequately praise this meticulously researched and illustrated book. Buy it! You won't be sorry
Harry Potter 4
Harry Potter 4

The Halfblood King: Book 1 of the Chronicles of Aertu

This work of fiction is such an interesting story! Everytime I put the book down to do errands I decided to put the errands on hold and read a chapter or two more. I wasn't avoiding the errands, the book engulfed me. In my opinion, this is a terrific story. If this story is made into a movie, I hope the author informs me.

When Aleron's parents are killed, he is raised by his maternal grandfather and a woman named Jessamine. His grandfather, Hadaras, was wise and he and Jessamine raised Aleron well. Aleron was compassionate and was receiving powers which he was learning to master to fight evil. It was so creative to take a spectrum of colors to represent various powers. His grandfather's guidance taught Aleron the importance of self-control in the use of such powers. Hadaras taught Aleron he is not to consider himself above others, rather, he is to be a part of the community. Aleron's travels to learn of the world and flight to rescue the one he wishes to marry all make for an intriguing story.

There is more than one historical synopsis at the end of the story along with various calendars, all making for a great story!
There are some minor grammatical errors but don't let this discourage you from reading this terrific story! I don't want to write anything further because I don't want to give away the story.

Excellent product. Cut an expensive jet ski gauge cluster apart to repair the screen. I was able to glue the gauge back together and put a weld like bead over the seam to add strength and make it water tight. Worked great! Saved $800. Glue dried, looks and hardened just like the black ABS plastic the gauge is made of. Much better than the multi purpose PVC/ABS glues found at hardware and big box stores. I couldn't find this product in any local stores. Thanks Amazon!

Very nice knife! I own a couple Spydies and the quality on all of them are excellent. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I didn't care for the sheath it came with. Don't get me wrong, the sheath isn't that bad but I like a form fitting kydex sheath over the one they give you. I ended up gettingng a custom kydex one made for $40 that also came with a Nano firesteel holder on it. Now I'm completely happy! The knife is awesome, comfy grip, hold edge, good handle to blade ratio. It is identical to my EDC Spyderco Native, BUT it's a fixed blade, so if you like the Native then you will fall in love with this. I wear it as a necker and have put a teklok on it to scout carry it. Great Knife!!
Gift For Dying
Gift For Dying
M.J. Arlidge is one of my favorite authors. His D.I. Helen Grace series is phenomenally and consistently good. So when I saw that he had a stand-alone novel, I jumped at the chance to read it. Alas, "A Gift for Dying" did not live up to the standards I have for Mr. Arlidge, and here's why:

1) The book took forever to get going. There was so much backstory and setup. Too much. Although the book had Arlidge's trademark very short chapters, the short chapters didn't help move along the plot like they do in his D.I. Helen Grace series. Instead, I got frustrated that a 3-page chapter would be inserted to talk about a potential victim's mundane day. I realize that Arlidge wanted to give readers a chance to get to know the characters, but in this case it really wasn't necessary. Knowing the victims' daily routines and thoughts didn't have bearing on the plot or getting insight into the killer, so it was really unnecessary and served only to drag out the book, which was already 470 pages long.

2) This story should not have been set in Chicago. Or anywhere in the United States, for that matter. It should have been set in England because Arlidge's language is British English, with British vocabulary. Lots of British vocabulary. It was so jarring for the characters to be speaking British English when they're supposed to be American people based in Chicago. And not just the characters, but the descriptions and narrative portions were also steeped in British vocabulary. There was no need to base this book in Chicago. It could have been based anywhere and still worked. But if you're going to base it in the United States, you need to use American English. Otherwise, it simply doesn't fit.

3) I didn't connect with Dr. Adam Brandt, the main adult character. I didn't find his actions and decisions believable, and I simply never felt a connection with him and his wife Faith and their domestic trials, although I could tell that Arlidge was trying very hard to draw the reader in. I felt more of a connection with Kassie, the teenaged girl who is central to this novel. But even with Kassie, I didn't really care about her family life backstory, her mom, her childhood. I don't know why, but all of that just made me impatient to get on with the plot. I understand the need for character development, but for some reason it wasn't working for me in this book.

Having said all this, I still give the book 3 stars because Arlidge is a good writer. When the pace of the book finally started picking up, I was much more engrossed. Some of the violence is extremely graphic, but this was not a surprise to me, as I know how graphic his D.I. Helen Grace series can be. It's not gratuitous violence - it does fit, but it's definitely not for the squeamish.

Because I like Arlidge so much, I'll still give it a go with any future standalone novels, but in the meantime I eagerly await the next in his D.I. Helen Grace series.

There are 38 World Heritage Sites located in India. These include 30 cultural sites, seven natural sites and one or more mixed-criteria site. India has the sixth largest number of sites in the world making it one of the most prestigious country to visit if you are interested in ancient structures and the stories behind making of these gorgeous structures. I personally visited several of these temples and structures shown in these series during my early childhood days but now knowing the science and technology behind them makes me more interested in visiting them again.

This series focuses on depicting them by visiting various sites individually and It is refreshing to see the temples and structures around India and the science and technology that supposedly went behind building the structures centuries ago. The narrator and host Vaibhavi Upadhyay did very good job of portraying, explaining the various temples and theories in her own unique way. The camera always focused on the host in various modes and angles trying to bring different perspectives with the structures in the background. Vaibhavi Upadhyay is beautiful and that accentuated the ancient structures making it more desirable to watch.

Overall I did like the series. Rating the series with four respectable stars!
The Missing Course: Everything They Never Taught You about College Teaching
The Missing Course: Everything They Never Taught You about College Teaching
This study is very helpful as a handbook for teaching. I learned a tremendous amount of ideas and proposals concerning in-class activities, assignments, grading, and prep work, as well as helpful advice on the more philosophical and psychological aspects of teaching. For any faculty member who wants to get up to speed on the state of the art of "active learning" (which I certainly did when I bought it), I highly recommend this book. The study is extremely well researched and offers many useful references. The insets the author includes with sample handouts, assignments, and so on, are particularly helpful. The whole book (Chapter 1 in particular) is jam-packed with ideas that will leave faculty members energized about changing their teaching techniques.

My main objection, though, would be that the book is almost entirely uncritical regarding the state of higher education and student outcomes today. It offers no real critique or seriously critical thinking concerning why teaching ought to be done according to the basic vision of active learning contained in this study, which I certainly agree with as a response to the status quo. The pitch of the book—as "the missing course" about pedagogy that graduate students would take to augment their expert knowledge of their discipline in a university system that values teaching as much as it does research—would incline one to think that this mode of large-scale, structural thinking would be included. It is not.

While I think the book does an excellent job of offering advice that is cross-disciplinary and would apply to different modes of academic work, occasionally the ideas it offers—like requiring students to come to office hours for a certain amount of time, mandated faculty observations of their colleagues' teaching, or "wrong answer tests"—sometimes struck me as things that community college professors, for example, would not have a lot of time for.

Those critiques aside, I highly recommend this book as a practical and cutting-edge guide to college-level teaching today.

Loula is from a privileged family. Her mother is an opera singer and her father designs mustache's for a living. Unfortunately, she has three "mean, horrible, stinky," triplet brothers who drive her crazy so she decides to pack her belongings....her essentials...her stuffed cat, her tea set and her best drawing and head off to Africa!!!!! She encounters their chauffeur, Gilbert, polishing up their limo and he asks where she is off too in such rush. She says she is going to Africa, to get away from everything, and dear, loyal Gilbert becomes her tour-guide and helps her plan her escape. He tours her through a wonderful, magical afternoon of make-believe. "Mademosielle, look! What luck! Here is a restaurant. Which would you prefer," he says, offering her cotton candy and an ice cream cone. "Ostrich egg soufflé or a grasshopper sandwich?" They cross the desert (a park sandbox), go for a camel ride (bouncy, playground ducks), and take a paddle boat to a faraway remote island. On the island, in the stillness and the beauty of the sunset, they enjoy a cup of tea and together they watch the colour explosions overhead as the sun sinks slowly across the sky.

The ink-and-watercolour illustrations remind you of fabulous ones from yesteryears. They are playful and whimsical and I especially loved the tornado activity that was drawn above Loula's head to show her dissatisfaction and huffiness. As the day proceeds the tornado shrinks showing her more calm and relaxed as she spends time with her friend Gilbert. The different phases of the sunset are spectacular indeed!

Gilbert is willing to spend quality time with Loula. He happily plays along with her and is her protector right up the last moment when he carries the sleeping little adventurer back into her house. It is a sweet, interesting story full of imagination and warmheartedness. Every family needs a "Gilbert " in their life. Don't you agree?

quasi vivendoli in prima persona.

Job Description Handbook, The
Job Description Handbook, The
An easy, uncomplicated read providing good input and worksheets for developing job descriptions. Does not cover in very much depth the physical demands and working conditions piece, which I was looking for. I work in an industry that employs a large variety of positions, indoors and outdoors, desk jobs and physically laborious jobs, and in various weather conditions, and we'd like to address physical demands for ADA purposes. This book seems more appropriate for companies whose jobs don't have such a variety of conditions. I did like, however, the simplicity in which it covered the other aspects of job descriptions.
Petsafe Sheepskin Toy
Petsafe Sheepskin Toy
When it was time for my Great Dane puppy to come home at 8 weeks, I asked his breeder to rub this sheepskin toy all over a couple of the Danes he was raised with, to pick up the scents of "home". It really helped him adjust. We had no issues with separation anxiety, which was great, since it can be heartbreaking to watch, much less what the puppy goes thru. The "sheepskin" holds the scent for a long time. Ruger has slept with this since he came home even tho the scent long gone now. It's like his "buddy" now.

I've bought many of these thru the years for my Dane puppies. They're always a favorite toy. Sturdily made, they take a lot of abuse. As with all of my dogs & their stuffed toys, we teach them not to abuse them too much. They're toys, not bones. They're NEVER gonna take all of the abuse an unattended dog can dish out. Many of the negative reviews aren't about the quality of the toy in most cases. Most of the complaints are the fault of the owner. They're due to a dog simply not being trained right from wrong... Train a dog NOT to tear up their stuffed toys and they'll last a VERY long time. Don't get me wrong, this guy gets a LOT of abuse! Ruger really goes at it. He has for a month. It still looks as good as the day I bought it. Cleaning is easy, too! Just throw it in the washer with a load of towels. comes out good as new! I even throw these in the dryer!

After 11 month every day use, one day I felt the lightning terminal overheated w/ my iPhone X. It stopped charging. After sleep for six hours later, I tried to reconnect the cable and when I picked out the terminal, I felt a fire from the lightning terminal; actually my thumb was a little burnt. Even I saw the smoke a little. I plugged out the cable from a charger immediately. It was dangerous situation. The picture shows the burnt cable.

Urban life essentials Air Purifier, Mini Portable H13 medical grade HEPA Air Cleaner with Activated Carbon Filters for Vehicles Home, Bedroom, Office, Hand Gesture Operated, Low Noise and USB Powered
Update: after using this for several days constantly, it is holding up and works as advertised. Only drawback that if you use at night by your bedside, the status light ring is crazy super bright. You can't rotate it as the light goes completely around. Covering it isn't an option either, so you're left to turning it off. Aside from that it is great in the car and room.

I purchased this after reading some reviews. This had an overall rating of 4.1, whereas others had near 5. Upon reading the reviews, some dummy reviewers are clueless and don't know how to read the description then leave a bad review. Here is the true honest review. I think this is wonderful piece of gadget. It is pretty quiet and easy to use.

Tips:
1) This is NOT battery operated and hence no rechargeable battery. Power is only via USB connected source.
2) To get to the filter (when needed), lower most bottom section can be removed. The cap will come off and you can get to the filter. Easy. HOWEVER, to open the bottom cap, CLOCKWISE opens it very easily. Yah, usually counter clockwise opens it, but not this. So don't panic like I did, if it wouldn't open counter wise.
3) The controls sensor is not that bad as most report. The motion needs to be within about 5 in above the sensor. I just placed this in the back seat pulldown center console cup holder. Set the speed (Auto, Low, High, 3-5 sec over sensor for OFF), all is good. Though note, when power is reapplied, it turns on to the Auto setting.
4) The replacement filters are available. Appears only one brand sources this, so the 16 bucks is the price each. Bit pricey I think...perhaps a "2 for" is better at this price.
