Great Jewish Men
Great Jewish Men
A good book to read for relaxation. Many an interesting description of important personalities abound. Some of the great ones like Maimonides, Moses, Chaim Weizmann are discussed. One thing I take issue with is that there is a preponderance of liberal figures over conservative ones. It lists people like Walter Lippmann (a self-hating Jew) and Norman Mailer (a Non-Jewish Jew) who stands for the opposite of Jewish Values while excludes people like Irving Kristol (the intellectual author of the Gingrich and Reagan revolution) or Ayn Rand both of whom are more prominent on the other wing. Other people worth including are Milton Steinberg (a leading philosophical and literary voice), Emanuel Lasker (Chess champion and one of the greatest Jewish minds), Bernard Malamud (a Pulitzer Prize-winning author), Edward Teller (one of the greatest scientific minds of the century), Vladimir Jabotinsky (A great literary voice and important Zionist intellectual. He deserved an actual description rather than brief mention) and David Oistrakh (a leading Soviet Violinist).

How Jeff Bezos Built An E-Commerce Empire: The unwritten Story of Amazon.com
I've been an Amazon customer for quite a while. Amazon has become my store for online shopping. Its continuning success led my curiosity to its founder - Jeff Bezos. Well, the fact that he's become the richest man in the world has contributed too. That book is a short but in-depth biography of Jeff Bezos which is very inspiring. I'll recommend it!
George Washington's Sacred Fire
George Washington's Sacred Fire
This book is long and is not to be read like a historical biography. It's like reading the Bible. Take your time, read a little each day. Lillback absolutely refutes anyone who claims his book is historically inaccurate or that Washington was not a committed and practicing Christian believer with overwhelming evidence. Almost a quarter of the total pages are footnotes and appendices to support every statement made. Actually I found it spiritually uplifting to read. Yes, it's repetitive, but, to me, that gave it power, and provided solace, and convinced me that this country needs another spiritual awakening. Two of our greatest presidents, Washington and Lincoln, faced as vicious and vociferous attacks as our current President and only their pronounced faith kept them going. None of these men were "perfect", neither was David or any, any of the leaders and prophets of the Bible. To read what Washington went though and how his faith sustained him gives a tremendously hopeful and insightful perspective on our own times. Keep the faith, in God we trust.
Dark Shadows: The Haunting of Collinwood
Dark Shadows: The Haunting of Collinwood
Inspired by Henry James's classic "The Turn of the Screw," the "Ghost of Quentin Collins" plot has always been my all-time favorite "Dark Shadows" storyline. And this DVD, "The Haunting of Collinwood," is a very good distillation of that plot -- which originally ran for about ten weeks (about 50 episodes) on the original series -- to a single disc. It's not perfect, mind you. I regret that they didn't start with David and Amy first hearing Quentin's voice (which the viewer doesn't hear at the time, making it especially creepy) on the old disconnected telephone, which got the whole ball of possession rolling. And I miss the sequence where the writing appears on the mirror. But the DVD makes up for it with what it does have. The sequence with the psychic Janet Finley is especially good, as are the segments where Elizabeth Stoddard finally realizes the children are indeed possessed. and when Prof. Stokes discovers -- nearly at the cost of his life -- that his attempted exorcism of the house has failed. The bonus episode, revealing how Quentin died and why he's haunting the house (which, as it turns out, was negated when Barnabas Collins went back in time and managed to change history), is the perfect complement.

Overall, this DVD is well worth owning if you don't already have the original episodes themselves and either want to "relive" the story or experience it for the first time. The "companion disc" -- "The Vampire Curse," revealing the story of how Barnabas became a creature of the night -- is excellent, too. But if I had to choose between them, this one, "The Haunting of Collinwood," is the one I'd get.

Sterling Silver and 14k Yellow Gold Blue Sapphire and Diamond Accent Art Deco-Style Ring (1/10 cttw, I-J Color, I3 Clarity)
This ring is such a stunner and what an incredible price! If you like flashy, gaudy or big sparkles then this isn't your ring. However, if you like class, elegance and 1920's art deco style, don't hesitate. Just buy it. I had this on my wish list for 2.5 years and finally bought this. The actual picture showed crooked stones but that wasn't the case. I was blown away by the price, quality and simple beauty of this ring. My only slight complaint is the size. I've had my fingers sized many times and know my exact size. I ordered a 7 (standard for my middle finger) but it's loose. As I have large knuckles, I wouldn't size up and just wear it on my first finger at times. Overall, very pleased with this beauty!

GoWoo 100% Natural Bamboo Toothbrush Soft - Organic Eco Friendly Toothbrushes with Soft Nylon Bristles, BPA-Free, Biodegradable, Dental Care Set for Men and Women, (Pack of 4, Adult, Rainbow)
My boyfriend and I have been taking baby steps to make a conscious effort to lessen our carbon footprint, and this time around, I wanted to get rid of our plastic toothbrushes once and for all. There are lots of bamboo toothbrushes out there, and the biggest reason I picked these was because I heard they were super soft, and the handles and bristles are colored. These toothbrushes are great! I love that we can actually tell our toothbrushes apart, the bristles are super soft, which means they are great for my senesitive teeth. The head of the toothbrush is also not overwhelmingly big, so they are good for petit people or preteens, as well as the people with bigger mouths. I love that for every purchase, I get four toothbrushes, so I just stick the other two in my bathroom drawer and I’ll have another pair 3 months from now. They cost just the same as a regular toothbrush, and the box is compostable. It’s a struggle when the “green” equivalents to daily products are two to three times as expensive, it can get difficult to pay a lot more for the same thing when you’re trying to pay off a lot of college debt. My boyfriend complained about the texture of the bamboo being weird on the inside of his mouth, but he’s just complaining. I’m sure he will get used to it. This company is great, the toothbrushes are durable, and I highly recommend them. Great for family, great for singles, better for the environment. Oh, also say no to the free toothbrush at the dentist next time.

Soweit so gut.

Dann kommt aber der Knaller:
Bei der Lieferung wurden die Zahnbürsten-Packungen jeweils nochmals dick in Plastikfolie und Plastik-Klebeband eingewickelt und dann erst in den Versandkarton gepackt. Was soll das??
Michigan vs. Ohio State: The Rivalry
Michigan vs. Ohio State: The Rivalry
I bought this for my girlfriend to watch before the season starts and before the big game. Although this video is outdated it is still just as good as it was the day HBO made it. Every year we watch this video before the big game and it never fails to hype me up for the game. I would recommend any U of M fan buy this. It goes back through the history of the rivalry and a lot of footage from games in years past. There are some great interviews with Bo and Woody. The only thing I would improve would be that I wish HBO would update this to include the start of the Harbaugh era. The video was filed right at the beginning of the Rich Rod nightmare. It's still worth it to watch and it will definitely get any U of M hyped and yelling GO BLUE!
All or Nothing

If you want to watch full games and film go to NFL Gamepass. The show is rated Mature. I am tired of all these people who want their children to enjoy a product put out for mature people and give bad reviews because of it, not helpful. Let them watch cartoons or something. And if you wanted this to be a documentary on the concussions of the Arizona Cardinals, sorry to disappoint, there is other things out there for that.
Now if you want to see what a full season and postseason is like for a team in the NFL (not just meaningless preseason games) this is it right here... You can feel the heartbreak, the victories, the pain of the players. It gives you another perspective of what the game means to a lot of people. It also allows you to see deeper into who these players are, some people complain about the cookie baking, cooking, and changing diapers, well I say we get enough of the bad apples on the news and everyone is all over these guys when they screw up, it feels nice to see that they are real men, with real families, and a lot of heart.
As a die hard Cardinals fan:
I love this team, and I really wish Larry gets his ring. No man deserves it more than him in the NFL.

Expertly crafted, incredibly strong direction. An expressionistic journey into the dark recesses of who we all have the potential to be. The story keeps you on your toes the whole way, with some genuinely hilarious moments throughout. Viscerally honest storytelling. Production Design and Cinematography are top notch, as well. Do yourself a favor and go down the rabbit hole with this one. Ace Thor is a master.
Black Panther (Original Score)
Black Panther (Original Score)
If Wakanda is a character in the movie, The Black Panther, this score is the soundings of the drives, dreams, and pain of characters. The combination of African instruments and voices are the heart beat and blood flow of the different tribes that make up the country. The western instruments are used to translate the score for non-afrikaners like myself.

It,s impossible to listen to the opening of the song "Wakanda" without feeling inspired and hopeful. The themes used for Killmonger are so tormented, hunted and driven that you can hear the pain of the boy and the man he became. One of my favorite pieces is the "Casino Brawl"'s "yep" (as Ryan Coogler calls it) which is used when the Dora are fighting. I love that mesmerizing chant and wish it were incorporated into a longer work but a focus listen reviews how much it' woven through the movie. I've loved movie scores all my life and am a fan of Elmer Bernstein, John, Barry, Thomas Newman and the never appreciated Gordon Parks Sr and this score stands with them as one of the very best scores ever written. It is more a part of the movie and it's characters that anything I've heard. It's adding that layer you lose when a novel becomes a movie. You just can't know what the characters are going through internally unless there is a narrator or there is a music score like this one. A great score stands on it's own and makes you want to watch the movie again as you listen to it. More than a few times I've found myself listening to this music and stop only to watch the movie. Wonderful music. Wonder full music.

Black Panther The Album Music From And Inspired By [Clean]
Black Panther The Album Music From And Inspired By [Clean]
There are three Black Panther movie soundtracks. Some people are complaining because they were expecting one and didn't look at oh, a track list? That's their own fault. One is the instrumental/African music album. The second is the hip-hop and rap music (you will recognize that Kendrick Lamar is noted in the item title) with explicit lyrics, and then there is this third one with the same hip-hop and rap "radio edit" type versions of the songs where necessary, in which the curse words have been artfully removed just like they might be on the radio. I don't always mind swearing in music because that's what the artist may need to use to say what he or she needs to say when they have a serious message. I do have kids though, and they repeat everything, so I grabbed the "clean" soundtrack.

I'm disappointed that it isn't available digitally and doesn't come with Auto-rip. Major thumbs down to Amazon for that as it's annoying to me to have to rip the cd and put it on devices.

However, that doesn't reflect on the actual album. I really love the music especially since I hear no misogyny, there's a respectful song about a strong woman, the lyrics reflect some of the problems, doubts, worries, and issues that we see both T'Challa and Erik Killmonger dealing with in the film, kind of like run-on stream of consciousness of the thoughts that might be on their minds in some of the tracks, which I felt was very well-done. The sound is excellent and messages are meaningful to me, it feels good listening while I drive. I loved the movie and I love this music. My favorite song on the soundtrack is All the Stars, I think, used during the closing credits of the movie, which just feels smooth and cool. Marvel movies always have great closing songs. But I think this album is very strong and well-chosen for the film. I'm glad that the filmmakers got music that the audience would feel represented well by, instead of putting in music that didn't resonate with the film's message of the strengths of African culture and just plain awesome black excellence.

Eppicotispai Birchwood Pizza Peel, 14.75 by 19.70", Cream
Prodotto perfetto.

Delphi Complete Works of Henry David Thoreau (Illustrated)
Delphi Complete Works of Henry David Thoreau (Illustrated)
I first read "Walden" in a freshmen seminar course in American Lit, and it was quite daunting reading at the time. Thoreau seemed an over-rated author: he darts from topic to topic with little to no transition, he quotes obscure passages, he sermonizes. And perhaps most frustrating of all, he wants his writing to be ambiguous (see for instance, Chapter 18), and for an assiduous college student eager to absorb and analyze, this can be quite an overwhelming experience. So, I got very little of Thoreau at the time.

Ten year's later, I decide that I would pick "Walden" up again. I told myself that I would stop whenever the reading became too discursive or abstract... And I did not stop until I reached the end!

As any student of early American lit. knows, Thoreau built a small house for himself in the woods of Walden Pond in Concord, MA, where he lived for two years (1845-1847), documenting his experiences living there in "Walden." He hoed beans for a living, lived a mile from his nearest neighbor and survived on the absolute minimum that he could. In his downtime, he would swim, fish, read and take in his surroundings, describing every sight and sound with the utmost care. Thoreau creates for his reader an unforgettable Nature-observing experience with such richness of detail that we feel we are right there with him. We hear the owl's cry, we witness the loon diving into the pond and the two ants going head-to-head in battle, we see the blue of Walden Pond. He is a student of Nature of the highest order and extracts from each of these experiences a parable about humanity: what we lack and how we can be free. For Thoreau, Walden Pond is a place of purity, an oasis, an Eastern paradise on earth, a Ganges.

An ardent non-conformist, Thoreau also uses this book as a sounding board for his "radical" views and practices. He detests the railroad and its encroachment upon his land (and more generally, that of technology on human and animal life). He refuses to pay taxes to a government that supports slavery and the Mexican War (for which he is briefly imprisoned during one of his sallies to the village). He prefers Eastern spirituality and meditation to Western religiosity. He spurns the high life and abstains from drinking and eating meat. He believes that man is in a dormant intellectual state, from which he can one day rise and embrace the dawn. And the list continues...

Thoreau's prose is also rather unique. What one must remember is that he is faithful student of Emerson and like Emerson, his paragraphs often contain non sequiturs, digressions and sometimes outright contradictions. It was perhaps this lack of logical linearity that initially kept from enjoying his work as a college student. We must be indulgent with Thoreau: his wit, his aphorisms, his acumen are well worth the sometimes uncomfortable task of deciphering his prose. I am very glad that at nearly the same age as Thoreau, I took a journey to Walden Pond with him.

Agenda Coelho Wisdom 2011 English
This is really an amazing agenda 2011. I was drawned to it by seeing the fantastic illustrations and that was the main reason I bought this agenda. In Denmark, where I live, you can't buy it at all, while in our neigbour country Sweden it is translated into swedish and already totally sold out. I also learned that there have been Poul Coeho agendas for several years and I'm certain I will continue to buy them from now. I love the writing of Coelho and having his words of wisdom (theme 2011) dotted around in the agenda all year through is as a small reminder everytime you read them. As a matter of fact I bought 2 and gave one to a friend of mine, who felt just as much in love in the illustrations and words as I did.

Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas
Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas
Not your usual James Patterson book. It could be a romance, but it's not just that. It could be sentimental, but it's not quite that either. Told from two points of few - that of the diarist, Suzanne, writing to her baby son and Katie, who is sent the diary to read. The story is told tenderly and with, it seems, some insight. It's a story of love - lost and rediscovered, with a few other emotions thrown in for good measure! It's not the longest book, which probably stops it becoming too gushy and sentimental. Like many other reviewers, I read it in a couple of sittings and enjoyed it very much.
NYPD Red 3
NYPD Red 3
Mgmt review:
Many characters, too much "fantasy" & "romance".

Details:
1)
I was struggling throughout the book with the many characters that are somehow involved.
At the end it was ok, but I was at my limit (I'm really not good at remembering characters - therefore I don't read fantasy books, hehe).
2a)
While the previous books where (in my opinion) "balanced" and maybe more bent towards the descriptions of the "bad guys", this one spends quite a lot of time putting the focus on the "good guys" - for my taste the opposite would have been better.
2b)
This specific book focuses at 30% with personal drama/romance => I personally really wanted to avoid this kind of books => at the end things seem to be stable, so there are good chances for the next book to be again "neutral" => if it won't then I will give it 3 stars and stop reading the series/author.
3)
In the end I gave to this book only 3 stars mainly because there were just too many characters involved + too many characters did just what they were meant to do + I'm still not sure why some characters exist or did something specific.
Don't understand me wrong - there were twists in the story - it's just that I never felt like that there was "a way out" of any possible situation.
Pondering about the whole situation, I'm still not sure what the motivation for some chars was - Stephen King would have easily slipped into the book those 1000 extra pages to describe their current nightmares & dreams, hehe... .

All in all I was a bit disappointed by this episode.
Betty Zane
Betty Zane
For a first novel, Betty Zane, has to rank as one of the best ever done by an inexperienced writer. And why it was rejected so many times is still a question many people must ask themselves after reading this book. Guided by a journal left by his ancestors Zane Grey crafted one of the most notalble works about one of the final battles of the American Revolution. Along the way, the reader will encournter many members of the Zane family, Lew Wetzel, and the Girty brothers, all real people; and Betty Zane, the heroine who saves Fort Henry. This book gives you a feeling of what it would have been like to live at that time and in that place. It is only fitting that such a book was the beginning of a literary career unsurpassed in the genre of historical romance. Read this and its two follow up books, The Spirit of the Border, and The Last Trail.

Krown Pro Skateboard Complete
Krown Pro Skateboard Complete
Its an okay board, definitly needs a few upgrades to really get the best out of it. I loved the sick design on the deck and the trucks are nice too, one thing to replace right away is the bearings! Replace these bearings with Reds or Spitfire's because these are some of the worst bearings I have ever rode. I would also look into getting differnt grip tape because the grip it comes with wears eaisily. If you have the money I would invest in a better board from actual skate compnys like Revive, Alien Workshop, Plan B, or Element. Mine snapped after having it and activily using it on a day to day basis after about 5-6 months so you deffinitly get some time out of this thiing. In the end this board is decent but needs someupgrades upon purchase.

The Baby-Sitters Club Mysteries #32: Claudia and the Mystery Painting
This book wasnt very interesting for me as It mostly talk about art it was also hard to follow. I like doing art but the theory side of it is boring. It talks about that in this book. Also theres not much baby sitting in this book and it was more about art than it was about an actual mystery. I think Ann could of wrote this book a bit better.
ER Season 12
ER Season 12
This season begins on the wrong side of a jumped shark. We see Kristen Johnson, John Stamos, John Leguizamo and Paula Malcomson added to the cast. Next season we get Stanley Tucci. Each of these characters stays just long enough to eff up the ER and/or the life of an ER staffer, and then is gone like poof. Stamos is a soap and comic actor, so he adapts well to motivational switches that simply don't occur in regular humans (and should signal an organic cause, needing tests). Leguizamo is a loud, lucky loose cannon whose luck eventually runs out. None of the new women even lasts two full seasons. But we get some outsize acting from everyone.

Show-wise, Abby and Kovac get knocked up, Weaver gets a new hip, Gallant gets hit hard by the war, and Pratt gets dragged to Darfur by Carter in cameo. Sam and Neela get NO help with their hair. Ray gets involved with jailbait, played by Kat Dennings. Morris and Dubenko get more annoying to prove that's possible. Only nurses Chuny and Malik offer longtime viewers any stability or connection to the show this once was, and they don't even get promotions.

Finally, these Evel Knievels of casting bring in Garrett Freaking Dillahunt, a go-to Crazy Dude, in the role of Sam's babydaddy, who viewers previously met as a loser but not a total psycho - played by another actor. Not sure if the original actor was unavailable, inconvenient or just forgotten.

In other news, this was the year Grey's Anatomy came out.

Serenity (2019)
Serenity (2019)
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT

Okay, now that you have been warned, I will explain to you the plot. It's so sad that so few people seem to be able to follow a complicated plot these days-- the old crime thrillers thrived on the audience being able to follow something that is not spelled out for them, but that skill is lost these days. Even after this movie completely spelled out what is going on.

This is what happens in the plot of the movie, in time order:

A young man, John, is happily married with a kid son. Then he goes off to war in Iraq and is killed. His wife remarries a local construction kingpin, who becomes abusive to both the woman and her son. Her son is brilliant and hides away in his room every day programming his computer. He eventually creates a computer game about fishing (in remembrance of a great memory of fishing with his father) and populates the game with artificial intelligences (AI). The program is so good that these AIs become self-aware and think they are real people living in a real world (like the Matrix, or the Truman Show, or The Sixth Sense, the main character doesn't know what the real deal is until the end).

Eventually this kid becomes so disturbed at the violence of his father that he changes the game and inserts AI versions of his mom and his stepdad into the program, and then has the mom try to bribe the real dad (the AI dad in the program) to kill the AI stepdad. The greatly disturbed the operating system of the game, which is also self aware (represented in the program by a dorky guy with a briefcase). It tries to contact the AI version of the dad and convince him not to kill the stepdad, and instead to return to the original mission of catching a fish, and also tries to put road blocks in his way. The AI dad (the main character) forces out of the operating system AI the truth that they are all AI consciousnesses, not in the real world. Although he struggles to accept this, he decides to go ahead and perform the new mission of the son, to kill the stepdad, since the son is his creator. He eventually convinces the operating system to embrace this cause too, since after all they are all just doing the will of their creator.

So they succeed at killing the AI stepdad, and this inspires the kid to go kill his stepdad in the real world. In the end, the kid is in jail but has access to his computer, and he designs an AI version of himself and inserts it into the game, and the movie closes with him embracing his (dead, but now AI) dad. Perhaps they will live happily, or only until someone switches off the computer.

So many fascinating philosophical issues involved. If you realize you are an AI, and the creator is not a good and just creator but a messed up kid, are you duty bound to do the will of your creator? Or is there a higher law that binds you to do the right thing, even above the kid-creator? One of the AIs in the game, the second mate of the ship, argues that they must be faithful to a higher moral call-- but argues this on the basis that there is a creator. But he doesn't know the creator of their world is a messed up kid, not omnipotent. Could it be that he knows somehow in his heart that there is an even higher creator than the kid, a true Creator of the world that contains the kid? After all, the kid lives in the real world and knows about religion. Another question: does the AI dad have free will? Is he responsible for the kid in the real world committing murder? Or did the kid program him to do his will, without a choice? The movie seems to indicate that the kid was waiting to see what his AI-dad would do before making his own decision.

Some reviewers have complained that the opening of the movie is cartoonish--the AI dad is clearly cartoonishly copying the plot of Moby Dick; the AI mom is a caricature of a film noir vamp. But that is because they are the cartoonish creations of a 12-year-old! That's the point-- the whole "world" is a Matrix-like world, the creation of a smart but emotionally crippled child. The really interesting thing to ponder is what if you realized one day you were in that Matrix world.

This type of "what is real?" movie and "would I know the world was a mirage?" has become a genre, including the Matrix, the Sixth Sense, and the Truman Show. One could also put the old movies Gaslight and Walter Mitty (not the recent version) in this category. Serenity, the Matrix, and the Truman Show all ask the question, what if the creator isn't good? In the Matrix and the Truman Show, the main character fights against the creator (who, after all, is not the total Creator but only a sub-creator of a limited world), while in this movie the main character acquiesces to the will of the (deranged) creator of his world. There is an odd meta-nesting: he recognizes that he isn't real, but realizes that there was a real dad who loved his kid before he died, and he takes pity on the kid, trying to parent him by becoming what that real dad could have been-- even though the kid is his creator.

So fascinating. Too bad that so many people couldn't follow it. It will be discussed in philosophy classes for years to come.

Mr. Tickle and the Dragon (Mr. Men and Little Miss)
Mr. Tickle and the Dragon (Mr. Men and Little Miss)
When Mr. Tickle returns and finds his house burned to the ground, he sets out to find out what happened. Following a path of burned out structures, Mr. Tickle eventually finds the source of all the trouble - a fire-breathing dragon! Just what can he do to overcoming this dangerous beast? Why tickle him, of course! And soon, Mr. Tickle shows the dragon all of the good things that he can do with his abilities.

This is quite a cute little book, as are all of the Mr. Men and Little Miss books. However, I must say that it does appear to me that it this book should not be read to very young or most sensitive children. My own daughter was horrified at the idea of coming home to find your house a burned-out wreck, and found the beginning a little too scary. So, you might want to keep that in mind.

But, nonetheless, it is a cute book, with a nice, uplifting story of helping others.
The Golden Spiders (A Nero Wolfe Mystery Book 22)
The Golden Spiders (A Nero Wolfe Mystery Book 22)
Rex Stout reached out of my library shelf and captured my heart for the rest of my life. The Golden Spiders was out of print for a long time and I grieved that a Nero Wolfe story with such an intriguing title remained unknown to me. I've now managed to buy or borrow most of the Nero Wolfe stories, all of which I recommend.

Audio books need to fulfill more and perhaps a little different criteria. Unabridged books are the best - no one's messed with the subleties employed by the author or chopped any subsidiary threads to save space.

Once I'm assured that the storyline will hold my interest, the voice of the reader is very very important to me. Michael Pritchard is one of the best and I'm eagerly awaiting the next Nero Wolfe audio book release.

Golden Spiders starts with a streetwise neighbourhood child being admitted by Archie during one of his spats with Mr. Wolfe. The boy has learned something which he expects to turn into cash and wants to employ Mr Wolfe. When bodies begin turning up around New York, only Wolfe sees the connections. It takes lots of work by the whole team to finally find the crucial evidence and bring the baddies out from behind the wall of lies built up by so many. If I go into any more detail I'm likely to spoil the hidden surprises lurking in each plot twist.
Rex Stout (Recognitions)
Rex Stout (Recognitions)
If you've read (and reread) all the Nero Wolfe novels, you'll enjoy Anderson's thoughtful exegesis of themes, plots, and the underlying meaning of the "family" living in the brownstone on West 35th Street. He divides the novels into early, middle, and late periods and traces the development of the characters and premises in the books. Does Wolfe mellow with time, or is he the same curmudgeonly misanthropist as at the beginning? What roles do the other members of the "family"-- Felix, Theodore, Saul, Orrie, Inspector Cramer, et al-- play in the long-running saga-- or are they only props in the play? For those who love these magical books, this critical reading will repay close attention.

I'd recommend looking at this after reading William S. Baring-Gould's "Nero Wolfe of West 35th Street" for its sure-handed overview of the entire series (including the short stories, not really covered in the Anderson book).
The Little Women Letters
The Little Women Letters
I read this book based on a mention in EW and my own interest in the Little Women series of books as well as Louisa May Alcott and her life. For a Little Women connection the book did not disappoint, although at times it did stretch past the realm of believability. If one can get past all the similar tropes of the individual characters, one finds a nice enough tale that was if nothing else a decent summer read. I liked that the book was not completely predictable and had a few little surprises. The author had the tone of Jo March down cold in the letters sections, which was nice to see. However I did not find myself hugely invested in her modern characters, who at times seemed a bit more like caricatures of the originals. I would have been satisfied with the book though and given it a higher rating, perhaps a four star, if it had not been for the last and in my mind completely unnecessary and unbelievable "letter" that took up the final pages of the book. There was no need to continue to hammer home the connection between Jo and Lulu, especially at the expense of so completely stretching the believability of the story to the point where it left me not really enjoying it as I should have. It left me feeling disappointed and seemed kind of ridiculous. In my mind the story would have been better without it.

Harry Potter: Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Desktop Stationery Set (With Pen)
I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and I love stationery. My favorite characters from HP are the Weasley Twins so I had to get this. The only thing I'd have to warn others about is the pen. It's really cute but it doesn't write all that great but it's still cute to use every now and then. The cards and envelopes are really nice quality as well.

6 Finger Mobile Gaming Controller with Cooling Fan & Finger Sleeve &Travel Carrying case, for PUBG Call of Duty Mobile Game Controller Gaming Grip Trigger for 4.7-6.5" iOS Android Phone
I've been using this controller for few weeks now for PUBG. It gets the job done well.

Pros:
- Great price. Comes with 8 spare tips and a solid case (very nice case)
- Fits my phone nicely. No shifting so far.
- Triggers are working well. Response time could be improved with less spacing between the tips and the phone screen.
- Good fan speed with very low noise level.
- No discomfort using all 4 triggers.
- Back stand is very useful.

Cons:
- Bonus finger sleeves are poorly designed. They work but there are thick stitchings where your fingers touch the screen. Touching the screen with stitching area won't work.
-** Top portion of my phone heats up due to gaming and the fan doesn't reach this area... My phone's CPU probably sits towards the top of the phone. Top and bottom portions of the phone are covered by the controller and prevents heat release... Phone gets hot faster than before. I wish the phone covering surface was vented. For me the fan doesn't help my phone cooldown too much...
- Construction feels flimsy but with careful use, I think it will last long.
- Grips of the controller are smaller than you think. Might be a bit too small for man with medium to large hands.
- Sometimes the phone doesn't respond well to the triggers. Light trigger pulling seems to be the cause. I have to pull the trigger firmly.

I haven't really tested the battery life because the fan doesn't help too much for my phone.

The controller definitely helped improve my gaming. At least for me, it was worth the investment.

We are using this as a replacement ball for little tykes basketball system! So cute that we are buying more. The texture is great for the grip and the illustrations are adorable. Our child is special needs and it is the perfect size and design for her. This is not a huge ball. It is 5 inches round sort of like a large softball size. Great portability for whatever you want to do with it. Playing outdoor games like 4 square or kickball or basketball with this small ball actually requires more skill not less from the user but is so worth it for the portability and the artistic design on the ball.
Perfect for us!

I bought these replacement charging cables for a couple reasons… They are advertised as being both compatible with the OEM brand as well as literally being bulletproof. I get super frustrated when an aftermarket cable works for a brief period of time, but then gives me the incompatible error message and no longer works. I am also tired of the thin vinyl of the OEM cables always tending to crack around the connectors from bending too often. I am very pleased with the long “sleeve” of these that extends past the connector to help with the bending issue, as well as the tough nylon braiding. From the description, I honestly thought these cables were going to be much thicker cables, which I would have been OK with that if it meant longevity. However, as you can see in my picture, the OEM and this aftermarket cable are pretty much the same diameter! What a nice surprise! It’ll also be nice to have these 6 foot long cables, as the OEM 3.3 feet long cables are just impracticality short. It is too soon to speak to the longevity of these, but these have the makings of long lasting cables

Vivo V20 (Sunset Melody, 8GB RAM, 128GB Storage) with No Cost EMI/Additional Exchange Offers
Well I purchased a new phone after 4 long years. I have an I phone 7 which is still my primary phone. I exchanged my Samsung mobile as it got slow after usage of 4 years.

So my take after using it for 6 hours.

1- sd720 has good mapping speed, though i am not a gaming person.
2- camera is good like all other phones in segment but still no match with simple cameras of i phone and pixel.
3- battery is good and fast charge is efficient.
4- signal reception is top notch and voice clarity is awesome.
5- I believe design language is awesome and its sleek.

I got it for 19000 and i think it is a good device as I don’t change phone much often so lets see how it performs in long run.

Update - Battery drains very fast, even I am not using this phone for other than my official purpose.
No other issue reported bit fun touch Operating system is not exceptional, and I believe xiomi have better operating system.

I am not gaming or watching any movie bit still battery optimisation is operating system issue.

Called amazon customer service today and they will get it checked before going for refund so fingers crossed. May be issue with my device only bit to be on a serious note i didn't like this operating system either.

Update:- got my phone checked by Amazon technician and there is some manufacturing fault with my device.
Replacement process is underway and I am getting a new phone as replacement. Thanx Amazon rated 5* for amazon experience .
Responsive Web Design with HTML5 and CSS3
Responsive Web Design with HTML5 and CSS3
I've been debating whether to buy this book for some months, due to trying to find the information myself on the web and the book reviews. I can say that I'm glad that I have bought this book because it gives you all the information you need for creating a responsive website.

The problem is that when searching on the web is that people have different ways and recommendations of creating a responsive website. So you start to follow one technique and then they don't cover all the areas or have too many conflicting ideas with other techniques. This is a problem when trying to search on the web! This book does contain everything you need to know from start to finish. Yes, the images are in black and white but that does not matter and some of the code is spread over a couple of pages. But this does not matter at all, the code is just an example. It's very easy to get the fundamentals and start straight away.

I would say that I am an advanced user of HTML and CSS so I did skim read the parts I already know, but did learn a lot from the book. I also use HTML5 boiler plate to start with with makes it even easier.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that needs the answers to responsive design, HTML5 and CSS3.

Excellent job!

I grew up in the Netherlands. For Americans Dutch licorice is an acquired taste many never achieve. But for me, this is one of several types of Dutch licorices that's unsurpassed in flavor and quality. I repeatedly order this brand in this quantity because I cannot find a better price anywhere else plus the shipping is very fast.

This is the ultimate affordable licorice connoisseur experience. The texture is otherworldly. It has a gentle, yet crisp surface that shields the goey core from your menacing tastebuds. The flavor is subtle. Sweet, yet dry. It lingers not only in your physical being, but also in your mind, creating an insatiable craving for another tiny black square with a beautifully embossed S. I can attest to opera singer, Ivar F. Andresen's quote, which is printed on the impeccable packaging; this is the aid singers, orators, smokers, and sportsmen have been needing all along. And in the spirit of opera singers, IFA pastilles truly make you want to sing its praise in the grandest of halls. No audience is big enough for this gargantuan little star.
