Hands-On RESTful Web Services with TypeScript 3: Design and develop scalable RESTful APIs for your applications
I'm a Java veteran interested in understanding better the modern JS web development world. I really like the topic and the hands-on approach that the author chooses to explain modern RESTful API programming. However, the eBook is so full of errors, it doesn't deserve more than 2 stars. Please spend some time and re-visit the code examples in the book and fix them.
At least the git repository that contains all code from the book seems to to be tested and has running examples.
Troublemakers: Silicon Valley's Coming of Age
Troublemakers: Silicon Valley's Coming of Age
Any casual reader whose knowledge about Silicon Valley comes from the headlines or the news online might get the impression that Steve Jobs and the Google and Facebook guys invented the place. Obviously, this is far from true. But even more serious coverage tends to focus on a handful of high-profile individuals who have played outsize roles in the development of the high-tech industry. Stanford historian Leslie Berlin sets the record straight with her engrossing new book, Troublemakers: Silicon Valley's Coming of Age.

Troublemakers chronicles a critical period in the Valley's history (1969-76). Those seven years witnessed "the most significant and diverse burst of technological innovation of the past 150 years . . . Five major industries were born: personal computing, video games, advanced semiconductor logic, modern venture capital, and biotechnology."

"Innovation is a team sport," Berlin writes in the introduction to her book. She makes clear that her intention is to tell the stories of more than just the usual suspects. "Troublemakers . . . feature[s] some of the most famous names in Silicon Valley history, while also profiling seven other individuals in depth." More famous people such as Steve Jobs and Larry Page make brief appearances. Berlin's account highlights:

Bob Taylor, who led the creation of the rudimentary computer network at the Pentagon, in a sense "inventing" the Internet;
Mike Markkula, the man who made it possible for Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak to launch and build Apple;
Sandra Kurtzig, a software pioneer who was "the first woman to take a technology company public;"
Bob Swanson, a cofounder of Genentech;
Al Alcorn, who designed the video game Pong that launched the game giant Atari; and
Niels Riemer, the man who patented recombinant DNA for Stanford University, thus kickstarting the biotech industry.
Every one of these seven people could be the subject of their own biography. Berlin brings their stories to life through one-on-one interviews—all but Bob Swanson are still alive—while placing their accomplishments into the context of their time and place. As a professional historian specializing in this region—Berlin is Project Historian for the Silicon Valley Archives at Stanford University—she deftly meshes personal accounts by her subjects with extensive archival research.

To my mind, the most impressive of these seven individuals is Bob Taylor. As a key player at ARPA (the Pentagon's Advanced Research Projects Agency, now called DARPA) in the 1960s, he helped lay the foundation for the Internet. Later, in the 1970s, as the director of computer science research at Xerox's PARC (Palo Alto Research Center), he assembled what was widely considered the most talented group of computer scientists anywhere in the world—and possibly the most talented ever brought together anywhere. These extraordinary men (and a handful of women) created the Alto, the world's first personal computer with a graphic user interface (GUI), mouse, windows, and networking ability. It's astonishing to most observers that the Xerox Corporation failed to commercialize the Alto. Only years later did Apple's Macintosh begin to approach the capabilities of the Alto. (A former key player at PARC thought of the early Mac as a toy.)
Henry Ford and the Model T (Inventions and Discovery)
Henry Ford and the Model T (Inventions and Discovery)
There weren't any reviews for this book yeat, so I HAD to let people know how neat this book is! It is a simple graphic novel to tell the story of Henry Ford creating the Model T. After learning some basics in the story, there are additional pages of information in the back. Also included are references to other sources of information on Henry Ford, including a code for a website where children can learn more according to their age at a safe internet site. I am anxious to look up the additional references, and even more excited to read more of the series with my son. He loves the graphic novel idea, and is learning many crucial historical stories without realizing it! Would definitely recommend!

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
After a debut album that included only two original compositions, Bob Dylan effectively launched his singer/songwriter career from here. He still used traditional folk melodies but now he added his own unbelievably mature, prophetic and wise beyond his years lyrics. The cultural impact of this album simply cannot be overstated. Some of the songs on here became synonymous with the early sixties, the burgeoning folk scene, particularly in New York's Greenwich Village, and with an increased need in the young and intelligent to protest.

The songs embraced the Civil Rights movement, political corruption and the omnipresent early sixties paranoia about impending nuclear war. He also had love songs on here, but they were not "moon in June"/"baby I love you" odes - they were often cynical, bitter and accusatory, something continued for a fair few years. As fetching as the picture is on the front cover, I have always felt sorry for poor old Suze Rotolo, who must have been on the receiving end of Dylan's acerbic tongue on many occasions.

"Blowin' In The Wind" is, of course, an absolute classic, and has been recorded by many other artists, including Peter, Paul & Mary, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young. It is the daddy of all anti-war protest songs, articulating beautifully and starkly against an acoustic background Dylan's fears for the world's future. The line "how many years can some people exist before they're allowed to be free..." perfectly aligned the song with the Civil Rights movement too. Quite simply, this song, written by a twenty-one year-old, is one of the greatest songs of all time. The incredibly bleak "Masters Of War" is another whose subject is hard-hitting and obvious, although the apocalyptic "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is a mysterious journey through all manner of imagery, biblical, poetic, mythological. It is a work of inspired genius.

Other classics are the vitriolic, leaving his lover song in "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright", the far more yearningly, atmospherically beautiful "Girl From The North Country" and the excursions into the blues tradition of the folky, harmonica-driven "Bob Dylan's Blues", "Down The Highway", "Corinna Corinna" and the old blues cover of "Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance". The pure folk tradition is there in "Bob Dylan's Dream" and "Oxford Town". "Talking World War III Blues" shows Dylan's black humour at its most obvious, but, for me, it it has always been slightly irritating and dated.

As I mentioned earlier the impact of this remarkable album and its songs was immense, but, as someone who owns all Bob Dylan's albums, I rarely play it. I much prefer subsequent live, often bluesy or electric live versions performed by Dylan of the songs, or indeed, covers of them by different artists. Check out Dylan's storming full band, rocking version of "Masters Of War" on "Real Live". It completely transforms the song. The same applies to many of his versions of "Don't Think Twice", or Neil Young's blistering "Blowin' In The Wind".
Bob Dylan for Easy Piano
Bob Dylan for Easy Piano
Easy to play and gives me the opportunity to improvise with both hands. (Only thing is that I cannot remember what I played the last time) It's the melody and the chords that are important for me. Otherwise playing pieces as they are is pretty simple, at least as I see it. Unfortunately I do not recognise most of the pieces. Not the book's fault but nevertheless. I should have read the contents more closely.

Refresh Your Car! E301461500 Scented Gel Can, 4.5 oz, Pina Colada
I needed a car freshener after buying my Used 2016 Lexus IS 350. Previous owner or previous driver was a smoker. I got rid of the smoke smell with a ozone machine. Then left with a chemical smell.

This freshener had several vents on the lid. I left the sticker on the lid to only expose two vents. I didn’t want it too strong. It works perfect. I don’t want an over powering smell when I get into my car. I keep it under my passenger seat. My car is very pleasant now.

I have no idea why anyone would give this a bad rating. You car has to be clean before adding scent. This will not cover up funk from a dirty car.
Java 8 Lambdas: Functional Programming For The Masses
Java 8 Lambdas: Functional Programming For The Masses

A Tribute To Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume 1 [2 LP]
A Tribute To Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume 1 [2 LP]
I am not a fan of these tribute albums but this one deserves high praise. Instead of semi-famous people murdering the famous Dylan songs here we have some lesser known artists getting stuck in to lesser known songs. The one exception to that rule is Slash's version of Wiggle Wiggle, it is not only an affront to the ears but totally out of character with what is actually a really solid album.

The highlights for me are Brownsville Girl (reprise), Series of Dreams and the acoustic version of Every Grain of Sand; all are affectionate homages to the original songs and they all sound great to my ears. They are obviously not as good as the originals and I do get the urge to listen to Dylan's versions when i play this cd...but that that is not a bad thing, i have never heard anyone other than Dylan do these songs so it is useful to have a different take on them.

As you can see from the selection of songs this cd is really aimed at the Dylan connoisseur, half the songs have never had an official release so the little in joke line-changes that are occasionally inserted will pass over your head if you have not heard the song.

Having said that the versions are of such a high quality and have such a nice modern sound that this could be a good starting point for anyone who is not familiar with Dylan's 80s stuff.

Finally the profits all go to charity too so if you have bothered reading this far you might as well go ahead and order it- there is a moment during the acoustic Every Grain of Sand when the guy takes the trouble to reproduce the noise of a dog barking (from the Bootleg 3 version) with just his keyboard- that is almost worth buying the album for on its own!
Gotta Serve Somebody: The Gospel Songs Of Bob Dylan
Gotta Serve Somebody: The Gospel Songs Of Bob Dylan
In Gotta Serve Somebody, director Michael Borofsky presents us with a documentary about this controversial and enthralling segment of Bob Dylan's storied career. Basically, Serve Somebody documents the making of the 2003 Columbia Records album Gotta Serve Somebody, a record which stitched together some of the greatest Gospel voices of our time (Shirley Caesar; Dottie Peoples; Rance Allen; The Fairfield Four) doing vintage interpretations of Dylan's oft-disregarded Gospel catalog. This is beautiful and timeless music which strikes at the cores of psyche and soul like a triumphant hammer. Simply, this is the music from which legends and poets and seers are brewed. Gotta Serve Somebody swells and bulges with great music. How does one pick centerpieces? No review could ignore Dottie People's riveting version of I Believe In You-- And then there's Rance Allen in the studio doing his version of When He Returns. The Chicago Mass Choir's rendition of Pressing On (led by Dylan's former back-up singer Regina McCrary who stops singing momentarily to candidly speak of how the loss of her child forged a deep undying faith) will make you want to cry: McCrary's vocal teems and soars, her bloody and brazen belief in the aura of the Christ pushing these crystal storms of music to invisible pinnacles -suddenly, it becomes impossible to question a piece of art this multi-dimesional and confessional and pure. Aside from being about great `Gospel' songs, Gotta Serve Somebody comes to collect a sheaf of great poems which speak to a journey isolated in time, speaking to a quest for Christ amid the personal challenges of being a rock-n-roll star. In short, this film serves as a beautiful testament to the growth of a seminal American artist, and it will no doubt be remembered as an important component to Dylan's vast body of work.
JavaScript: The Definitive Guide: Master the World's Most-Used Programming Language
JavaScript: The Definitive Guide: Master the World's Most-Used Programming Language
I first approached JS by buying Eloquent JavaScript and after few chapters I got completely demotivated in continuing studying from that book. Simple concepts were made outrageously complex whereas complex topics didn’t get the treatment they deserved. I then tried few online Udemy courses which were great but can never be as organized as a book.
Then the new edition of Flanagan’s JS guide was released. This book is not an easy bedtime reading. There are tons of concepts to learn there which are often recursive in different chapters, ie you can’t really skip or change the topic sequence of the book.
However I think that the author does a v good job in helping readers understating via precised and short code examples.
So far this is the best book I read on the subject. It is also updated with the latest lexicon of ES6. Remember JavaScript is a living language which get regularly updated and enriched. Books which were good 5yrs ago might not be relevant today any longer. Definitely recommended to whoever is serious in learning the language.

Familiar addictive listicle style that you see on Youtube, but with brief clips from actors talking about the movies, too, which was cool. Would be tighter without all the intros and outros they left in from TV. I noted some more movies to watch, but there was nothing I hadn't heard of before.
Wolverine Men's Floorhand Waterproof 6" Soft Toe Work Boot
Wolverine Men's Floorhand Waterproof 6" Soft Toe Work Boot
I like overall quality, thick leather and sturdiness.

I don't like the following details:
- Too bulky outside and roomy inside. For a regular 10M size better get 9.5M or even 9M.
- The upper is somewhat a combination of rubber, leather and nubuck. It will attract dust and dirt easily. You will have to wash it with soap and water.
- Seems to me insulation material is poor. Wish it had Thinsulate instead.
- Made in China

I will return it.
Deadpool [Blu-ray + Digital HD]
Deadpool [Blu-ray + Digital HD]
Deadpool is the hilarious 2016 superhero film starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular anti-hero. It is clearly an adult film with several sex scenes and plenty of jokes that will go over the heads of the younger audience it isn't intended for. The plot is somewhat secondary to the excellent characterisation and the unusually realistic romance. The DVD version has no real extras to speak of, just a gag reel which includes some Ryan Reynolds riffing on set and some awesome ad libs by TJ Miller. The other extra is basically a set of trailers which aren't as funny as the film itself.

The film takes a while to get going and in truth it does not start out particularly funny. The jokes warm up through the film as many of them are referential or in-jokes which play on the expectations of a Marvel film. The film starts almost literally with a bang and there are a few action sequences to follow. These are generally among the least interesting parts of Deadpool. He's an intriguing combatant but it is not particularly tight choreography. What works best during the action sequences is Deadpool mouthing off to his opponents.

Deadpool casually insults those around him and mocks people amusingly. He is not correct in any way and that makes it a not-too-guilty pleasure. Somehow Reynolds imbues Deadpool with such charm that he's never really offensive, just funny. The scenes with barman friend Weasel played by TJ Miller are among the best. The two banter like real people. Weasel even bets his good friend will get killed. The banter feels realistic and is sharp-witted. Weasel's reaction to Deadpool's physical transformation is the kind of honesty only a good friend would offer but it is still hilarious.

Perhaps the best of Deadpool's relationships though is with his love interest Vanessa. Played by the beautiful Morena Baccarin she has a proper adult relationship with the hero. Unlike too many Hollywood romances there is a vibrancy to the relationship and it is fairly explicitly adult. The pair share a number of sex scenes in different locations. A montage sequence featuring the pair really speaks to a physicality in their relationship that Hollywood usually glosses over. The realism of the pairing comes from Vanessa's introduction "your crazy matches my crazy". It makes sense that the two are together. Of course it helps that both Baccarin and Reynolds are attractive people but there's a realism beyond the good looking superficial appearance.

As this is the Deadpool show, the main villain does not have so much to work with. Ed Skrein plays the role of Ajax pretty much straight. There isn't any of the cheeky charm Skrein is capable of, presumably because the humour is designed to be through Deadpool's wit rather than his viillain. A bit of a missed opportunity really as it could have been fun to see Reynolds and Skrein trading barbs. Skrein's accent of course makes him a natural bad guy but he does seem to be having a bit of fun with the malice of his character's torment as Deadpool becomes his super self.

A couple of minor Marvel characters make an appearance but they basically seem to exist for Deadpool to make jokes. The line about turning up at the Professor X's school and only ever seeing the two of them is a funny way of pointing out the difference in concept between Deadpool and other X-Men productions. The visualisation of Colossus is much more akin to the original comic concept and the voice is reminiscent of appearances in the animated series. The disapproval Colossus has for Deadpool's lifestyle is an easy target for banter. The appearance of the ridiculously-named Negasonic Teenage Warhead is probably just there for the name but the sullen teenager routine opens itself up to excellent lines from Deadpool.

The costume design and colouring is good enough for this kind of film but clearly not the same as a bigger budget adventure. Reynolds looks a bit silly in the Deadpool suit but that's part of the charm. The others are not particularly interesting to look at except Vanessa who is beautifully attired.

The film's music is a bit of an odd choice. The DVD theme song is X Gon' Give It to Ya which is neither new enough to be cool nor old enough to be retro. A perfectly fine song but it doesn't seem to suit Deadpool at all. Musically this is not a particularly memorable film.

Visually Deadpool is fine, making use of frequent freeze-frame techniques during action to showcase Deadpool's abilities while bullets are flying around. It slows the action down quite often which means it loses some intensity but it is fun to see Deadpool's antics and that's what the film is ultimately about.

Deadpool at its heart is a funny and light-hearted take on a classic comic book character. It breaks the fourth wall knowingly, it uses in-jokes and banter between its characters to fire off barbs and make each scene worth smiling at or laughing with. There are not too many films like this one.

If You Spent a Day with Thoreau at Walden Pond (Christy Ottaviano Books)
If You Spent a Day with Thoreau at Walden Pond (Christy Ottaviano Books)
Henry David Thoreau dedicated his life to living simply and exploring nature, and in 1845 he built a simple cabin in the woods in Concord, Massachusetts so he could study and enjoy the beauty of nature around him.

In this beautiful book, the author and illustrator collaborate about what spending a day at that cabin in the woods with Thoreau might have been like for a young child. Through gorgeous illustrations, and a story about nature, children and adults alike should enjoy this book, and be able to engage in meaningful conversation afterward.

The reader witnesses a young boy arriving early at the cabin on the shore of a gorgeous pond. Once inside we see how, for at least this man, (1) bed, (1) table and (3) chairs and a kerosene lamp, was all that was needed to be content living alone in the woods with nature, contending "living a simple life is the best way to be happy." Thoreau and the young boy spend their day, going out on the boat and studying the fish in the clear water of the pond. They listen to the different birds and even see a hawk, as well as other critters as they walk in the woods, pick huckleberries and just enjoying nature. When day is done the young boy waves goodbye and Thoreau writes in his journal about all the two had experienced together.

If reader allows their imagination travel back to the time when Thoreau inhabited a similar simple cabin, a message about living simply and enjoying the beauty around us will make for good parent/child conversation. A great message for young children today who often spend too much time indoors, in front of a television or video games.

What makes this lovely story all the more special is the beautiful illustrations; I especially loved the map of the pond on the end boards. I've had the pleasure of enjoying other books by this illustrator that, like this book are truly one of a kind. If gorgeous illustrations are as important to you as the story itself, I suggest you check out other books illustrated by Wendell Minor.

Another thing I loved about this book was that at the back of the book was a biography of Thoreau (1817-1862) as well as some famous quotes and observations. Here is one of that is probably one of his most famous, and happens to be a favorite of mine as well.

"If man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away."

Highly Recommended for children (5 or over)
The Rider of the Ruby Hills: L'Amour's Original Version
The Rider of the Ruby Hills: L'Amour's Original Version
You can always count on L'Amour and this novel doesn't disappoint. Although his work is generally pretty predictable we all read it to enjoy seeing the good guy face adversity, ultimately come out on top and get the girl. His settings are realistic, if he refers to a geographical place or terrain feature you can count on it being there. His novels are clean and free of vulgarity or explicit sex scenes. They're suitable for any age and recommended for young folks because of the moral absolutes that run through every novel. There is definite right vs. wrong, good vs. evil, no moral relativism here. I've read all of them I know of, have a leather bound hardback set and have started to purchase Kindle copies so I can have them anywhere I go as well.
The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale (Penguin Modern Classics)
The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale (Penguin Modern Classics)
Said Stevie.

I didn't think one could find such simple sentences in a Conrad novel. But then again, this was a novel of many firsts for him.

Mr Verloc is a middle-aged agent provocateur in the employment of a foreign country. He answers to the latest embassador, Mr Vladimir, who wants Verloc to conduct a terrorist attack that can be blamed on the various emigre socialist/anarchist groups that inhabited London in the 1880s. These groups are a serious problem in Mr Vladimir's native country, so he hopes that the British police will crack down on them. Mr Verloc is threatened with loss of livelihood (his cover being a shop selling obscene materials) in the strictest terms if he does not comply. He chooses to fulfil his mission at the expense of his family, although he is so callous he hardly realises what he has done.

It must be a mark of how confident Conrad, an Ukranian-born, Polish novelist felt in his maturation as a writer that he chose to set the story entirely in London. The sea is absent here. In his former novels, Conrad felt he could not compete with native British writers- but in this one he builds some of his most compelling characters.

Winnie Verloc is Mr Verloc's wife and in her we see Conrad's most believable female character he ever managed to write. She is a stoic, industrious, harmless creature that comes from a very modest background. The only person she cares for in the world is her brother and she has made serious compromises for his sake. It is hard not to sympathise with her situation and the final part of the novel is exclusively about her inner world, which is portrayed with a humanity reminiscent of Dickens.

Verloc himself is a shallow, relatively dull and totally lazy man - Conrad is mercilessly ironic towards him, although it doesn't prevent him from making Verloc totally believable. Every action Verloc takes makes sense given his character. Conrad holds negative views of all "revolutionaries" and he displays then openly in this book which is unusual for such a subtle writer. Inspector Heat calls anarchists "lazy dogs, all of them". Michaelis's views are portrayed as hopelessly naive. The Professor is an intensely misanthropic character and a very authentic one. Ossipon is reptilian up until before the end, when he is disturbed by the consequences of his actions.

Some of the episodes certainly make it Conrad's most human novel. The incident with Stevie and the cabman for example, or Mrs Verloc's mother going away to the almshouse and the brutal description of her quarters there. This may be a political novel on the surface, but underneath it, it is a novel concerned with motives very connected to the social realities of the time. Conrad paints a bleak, disturbing picture of London; I wonder if it is because he could not afford to live there.

This book is part of what I consider Conrad's three great novels which came one right after the other. Nostromo, and Under Western Eyes are the other two. All of them are difficult and inaccessible although the Secret Agent in particular is supposed to be one of Conrad's simplest novels. Dialogue in the Secret Agent is more frequent than in Conrad's other novels and the verbosity is somewhat simpler, although simple only by Conrad's standards. The paragraph-length sentences, the bombardment of adjectives, the non-linear chronology are all here. It is only a simple novel in terms of length (not very long) and story (not particularly convoluted).

I suspected that the Secret Agent started as a short story, something that I confirmed when I read the Author's Note. By the way, this edition is absolutely brilliant. It includes voluminous notes, a brilliant introduction and Conrad's notes approximately thirteen years after he wrote the book. Even the cover is fitting.

Published in 1907, one gets the feeling that the Secret Agent has created and influenced certain literary genres of the 20th century. It is my favourite of Conrad's novels (and I think it was a literary triumph for him, even bigger than Nostromo), yet its bleakness means I cannot easily go back to it. Nevertheless, if anyone wanted to start reading Conrad I would recommend starting right here.

10th Anniversary (Women's Murder Club)
10th Anniversary (Women's Murder Club)
This tenth installment of James Patterson's "Women's Murder Club" is one of his better recent entries regarding believable multiple crimes being committed and tried at the same time. But as is Patterson's (Or whoever is actually writing his tsunami sized, unstoppable, release of one book after another... some of which are too ridiculous and off the "reservation" to comprehend. Such as one of the books previewed at the end of this story "Middle School The Worst Years Of My Life" which includes cartoonish drawn comic strip type characters on every other page.) wont the entire story is totally immersed in childish romantic interactions between adults that would be embarrassing to bobby soxers. And as always Assistant District Attorney Yuki Castellano has the most "trying" romantic interludes... and though she works in the D.A.'s office... she always seems to have a kindergarten level romantic soap opera involvement. For potential readers, I think I can prepare you for Yuki with this quote from her, despite her latest love interest being married and also being best pal Lindsay's boss: "I'M A GONER, I JUST THOUGHT YOU LADIES WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. I'M A VERY MOONY LADY. OVER MY HEAD FOR JACKSON BRADY."

Meanwhile... back to the crimes. We've got a female heart surgeon on trial for murdering her philandering husband... and by the way the heart surgeon cheats also. There are a number of zigs and zags surrounding this case that are actually better presented than most cases in this series. There is a fifteen year old girl found bloody, passed out, and missing her newborn baby. And there are multiple female rape victims who wake up in strange places with little memory of the crime.

Oh, didn't I mention that in the opening pages Lindsay finally gets married to her oooohhhh so dreamy former honcho in homeland security, and in addition to Yuki oodling Lindsay's boss... other best friend Cindy is deeply and syrupy in love with Lindsay's partner and one time heartthrob Conklin? None of these romantic notations are spoilers in the sense that it will give away important parts of the book... they're simply spoilers to a decent crime story background.

Naruto, Vol. 49: The Gokage Summit Commences (Naruto Graphic Novel)
I purchased the Naruto books from volume 39-49 for my 10 year-old son who is crazy about the TV show. He likes to talk about the shows he watches on the computer that are in Japanese with English subtitles. I tried to watch one a while ago but could not read the text fast enough and missed most of the action because I was concentrating on the text.

His friends are tired of hearing about Naruto and his Chakra so he tells me instead. He read all ten books in a matter of days - two, I think. He takes a few to school and lets his friends read them. He re-reads them when we are waiting for another endless appointment or traveling in the car. I have purchased more of the set - both earlier and later volumes that are part of his Christmas gifts. I like the fact that he is reading for enjoyment - not part of a school requirement - just for fun. Up until this year, he has had to read for 15 - 25 minutes a night as part of his homework - that requirement has been dropped for 5th grade and I must say I do not miss the endless reminders to please read. With these books, it is not a problem.

TheraBreath Fresh Breath, Oral Rinse, Mild Mint, 16 fl oz (473 ml)
I'm not going to say this is a waste of money, doesn't work, etc. because not everyone has the same results with this sort of product.Personally, this rinse did nothing for me. It tastes fine, doesn't burn, and might freshen the breath of someone who doesn't have bad breath in the first place. I, however, have suffered with terrible halitosis, dry mouth, and lingering bad taste in my mouth for years. When brushing after every meal, flossing, tongue scrapers, mouthwashes, gum, mints, and anything else I tried didn't help, I just gave up. Recently, I started rinsing with hydrogen peroxide a few times a week, and problem solved. The moral of the story: if you're looking at this as a cure for nasty breath, don't bother.

Hawke: A Novel (Alexander Hawke Book 1)
Hawke: A Novel (Alexander Hawke Book 1)
Bought two books in the Hawke series. I read this one and after doing so, know there is no way I will start the second. I was most disappointed in the character of Hawke: he is just not believable: a descendent from pirates, a gazillionaire, member of elite special forces, international paramilitary man, and a member of the aristocracy. Really? How much can you cram into one character? In addition, the dialogue between the character's, especially Hawke's various testosterone-filled buddies, is elementary and stereotypical. Throw in Hawke's miraculous ability to instantaneously recover from PTSD related to the revelation of memories buried for 30 years and a pirate's treasure, and the inability to believe any of the story is tripled. I bought this book for a beach read and look forward on vacation to reading such novels, as an escape. This one, though, lacks any resemblance to reality. Sorry, but it is a dud, which is too bad, because the underlying story about Cuba and a coupe had so much potential.
Astrid Lindgren (Little People, BIG DREAMS, 35)
Astrid Lindgren (Little People, BIG DREAMS, 35)
I found this book to be largely very charming (and as a former Pippi Longstocking fan, very interesting), but I'm an adult and I'm not at all sure it would be that appealing to the majority of children. I have generally found that children are far less interested in the authors of books than in the stories they tell. My son was an intense Harry Potter fan, but he was not one iota interested in JK Rowling's life story (which, to me, is incredibly interesting) until he was well beyond the age range targeted by this book.

Beyond that, book baskets have always been my favorite go-to gifts for kids. However, when choosing books for children, I'm always concerned about the messages and types of role-modeling they might convey and if they comport with the values that parents are trying to instill. So while I very much enjoyed Astrid's story, I think there are aspects to it that might bear mentioning, such as:
"But being a young adult meant that she could be a rebel!"
"At age 19, she become [sic] a single mom when her son, Lars, was born."

Typo(!!) aside, there are parents who will be perfectly fine with that, but others who might not be terribly thrilled. It's a choice and probably depends on how impressionable parents think their young readers might be. And I say this as one who had too many aspiring-writer friends who honestly believed that in order to be a great writer, one basically had to become an alcoholic or hard drug-user, a la Hemingway and a host of others, as crazy as that seems.

Overall, Lindgren's story is not what I expected it to be and there was much about it that was very interesting and fun to learn. But I'm an adult. I question how interesting it would be to those between the ages of 4 and 7.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Juniors Varsity Jacket
Harry Potter Hogwarts Juniors Varsity Jacket
I can't speak for the quality of the jacket as it was a gift for my granddaughter and she just got it a couple days ago. This feedback is about size. I tried to figure out the best size for her and was disappointed that there wasn't anything in the description that would help. I had to rely on the question/answers and people's reviews. My granddaughter is 8 and a size small. This jacket was quite big on her (ordered a small). I really wanted this for her as it was a perfect gift! I feel bad it will be big on her for a while, but she'll get a few years of use out of it!

This should be the continuation of what I call a mini series, something the writer seems fond of doing, and does break up stories for different readers so that the stories are not just for one or 2 particular story readers.

Scotch Felt Pads Value Pack, Round, Beige, Assorted Sizes, 162 Pads/Pack, 4-Packs (648 Total)
I needed to put some pads on a few different sized items in my house so I bought this multi-sized pack and they worked great.

They were easy to install
They've been staying on the applied surfaces
The items are easy to move when needed
They help protect my floors and surfaces from getting scratched or scuffed

A nice to know trick, before applying the pads, clean the surface of the item with some alcohol. This removes any dirt/grime and allows the pads to stick very well to the item.
Skechers for Work Women's Burgin Taney Boot
Skechers for Work Women's Burgin Taney Boot
I’m super disappointed with these boots. I’ve purchased these now twice. The first time I ordered a half size up like I usually do for work boots and they were literally like clown shoes. I returned the first pair and ordered my normal size. Just note that these run pretty large. Even with thick socks a size 8 (my normal size) seems pretty loose on my foot, but I was okay with it. That was until I realized that the right boot has significant discoloration.

While the boot seems like it would be comfortable while being used long term I’m disappointed in the sizing and the fact that the replacement pair also had issues.

Power Rangers Playskool Heroes Mega Mighties Megazord Action Figure, 12-Inch Mighty Morphin Toy for Kids Ages 3 and Up
This is a super cool toy for my kiddo! The Triceratops and Saber-tooth tiger heads do not snap into place, and I have considered super gluing them so they will stay put, but that is a super minor detail. The figure has articulation at the waist, shoulders, elbows, and neck. My little guy loves his "Power Ranger," and WILL NOT PUT IT DOWN! For $14, this toy was a home run!

If Amazon could put a piece of protection between the front of the toy box an the shipping box, that would be great! We got the toy with a scuff on the chest.
Game Change
Game Change
This is my third attempt to post a review: Why does Amazon block reviews with words that are in the movies they show? Good grief!
So the McCain campaign was looking for a bold move, and they decided to pick Palin for Vice President and didn’t thoroughly vet her. What. Could. Possibly. Go. Wrong?! This movie will show you in detail. Julianne Moore looks SO much like Palin, I had to look closely at the first ‘news footage’ to tell it was her and not Palin giving an actual interview. I have the upmost respect for Senator McCain and have developed an admiration for his somewhat cantankerous style. I believe that Ed Harris is one of the finest actors of our time so I was somewhat eagle eyed about how he would embody McCain’s mannerisms. I was disappointed that he ignored one of the most well known facts about McCain, that he cannot lift his arms above his shoulders due to the torture he suffered as a POW. This particular physical quirk combined with his belligerent delivery has led the press at times to compare him to Popeye. Favorite lines: “Joe is perfect, we’re both mavericks hated by the a-joles in our parties, it could have a tremendous healing effect on the country…. This is a woman with a gun, John, the base is gonna do back flips… There is a dark side to American populism. Some people win elections by tapping into it…. When you lose the moral high ground to Dick Cheney, it’s time to rethink your life.” It was disturbing to see that the rumors about Obama being a Muslim and not an American apparently flourished during this campaign and Palin was instrumental in fomenting the rumors and lies. She is the female Trump – a true narcissist. When she was getting praise and good press, she was happy, but when she wasn’t, she pouted and threw tantrums. The movie depicts McCain’s character accurately as we are seeing it being played out in current events with the GOP’s unilateral attempts to repeal the ACA. McCain is more than a national hero, he is a national treasure

I bought (these three at $25) size 12m for my giant 6 month old-(he went from 9 mo to 12 mo clothes in about two weeks 😳) he's 28.5 inches tall and a little over 20 lbs-they fit exactly as expected. These DO NOT have any funky smell at all; they're soft, thick-but not ridiculously thick, are not tight around the neck or wrists, have a zipper with snap closure at the top. I do agree with another reviewer that the legs are a bit more narrow as compared to the chest and waist, but they aren't too tight; My boy isn't very chunky, so that wasn't an issue but if you have a Buddha Baby, the legs might be too tight. The designs are bright and even cuter than the pictures-I really love the race car print. You can't go wrong with Carter's or any Carter's related brand...this is my third boy and I've had ALL KINDS of clothes on them...from super expensive name brands (bought by family members and friends and coincidentally they all rip quickly, don't fit properly, are uncomfortable or are just plain ugly) to "less expensive" clothes from Old Navy, Osh-Kosh, Carters, Garanimals, Just One You, Simple Joys and Jumping Beans......Carters (and JOY/SJ), Garanimals and Jumping Beans are (in my opinion) hands down the best fitting, most comfortable and most well made.
Beautiful Boy
Beautiful Boy

Fazit:

Gesamteindruck: Eher schwach und enttäuschend. Handlung ohne erkennbares Konzept, fehlende Dramatik und echte Höhepunkte. Schauspielerische Leistungen gut, aber fehlender psychologischer Tiefgang.

Sweet Dreamers, Ewan The Shushing Sheep - Crib Sleep Soother, Baby White Noise and Shusher Sound Machine with Cry Sensor and Night Light
I love this lamb, I just wish there were separate buttons for the modes instead of just one. I also wish there was an option for continuous play instead of just the 20 minute option. There is a cry response mode but my baby squirms and fusses a lot before the lamb hears noise and turns on again
Which is sometimes too late. It’s a little annoying to have to push it back on every 20 minutes to keep baby sleeping peacefully.

I've had this product for a few weeks and love the case. It is made of nice quality (had dropped the phone a few times and held up nicely), and the privacy feature is fantastic. I would have given it 5 star except for the fact that it requires great force to activate icons/features around the edges of the screen. I often therefore find it necessary to simply take the case off (which is super easy thanks to the magnetic closure/feature); otherwise am very pleased with this case.

This book was full of drama, suspense, and twist and turns. This book is like a urban fiction version of Romeo and Juliet. Two families feuding, backstabbing and lies have clouded judgment of all involved, this book makes you really look at your own situation . This book, not a lot of sex scenes but it keeps you interested from the beginning to the end.

Actiontec CenturyLink C1900A Wireless VDSL2 IPTV Router (Renewed)
Received modem today it does work. After approximately 45 minutes on the phone with CenturyLink glad they were very patient. "Renewed item" in pretty beat-up up condition! Plenty of scratches and gouges on front and top.
One of the four very short and sturdy legs was completely broke off and missing was not in the box. But on day one it is working.
Fortinet FortiGate 30E Network Security/Firewall Appliance
Fortinet FortiGate 30E Network Security/Firewall Appliance
I've been using a couple of generations of Zywalls. The one that this Fortigate replaced was a Zywall USG50 with a ton of features. It was extremely difficult to configure, and it had some flaky bugs. For example we could restore a config, and it would stop responding to just one of the static WAN IPs after about 3 hours. We'd restore the same config - no changes, and sometimes the issue would go away, sometimes not.

But the final straw was bandwidth. This remote site was supposed to be getting 60Mbps but the best we ever saw was 50. We chalked that up to the cable company. But then we upped the bandwidth to 110 and it was still 50. The USG 50 is rated at 100Mbps, but when we attached a laptop directly to the modem we saw 112. Horrid.

We hooked up the Fortigate and could only ping one of our 4 static WAN IPs. We tripled checked the config and couldn't figure it out, so we filed a ticket with Foritnet. The next morning we had a response, which we responded to. Within 30 minutes we had another response, which we also responded to. Then my phone rang; it was a Fortinet technical support engineer calling me directly to solve the problem. Yes, in 2018!

He diagnosed it 10 minutes; reboot the cable modem (thanks Shane). Brain cramp on my part; the cable modem ARP cache had the MAC addresses of the old firewall. Once we did that everything worked perfectly - we had done the config correctly.

Running a speed test there was absolutely no change in our speed readings than from connecting directly to the cable modem; 112Mps down and 12Mbps up.. This unit is rated for 950Mbps , so there is a lot of headroom.

With great performance and unheard of support, why wouldn't you go with products from this company?
NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-band WiFi Router, Gigabit Ethernet, MU-MIMO, Compatible with Amazon Echo/Alexa (R8000P)
NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-band WiFi Router, Gigabit Ethernet, MU-MIMO, Compatible with Amazon Echo/Alexa (R8000P)
I really want to like this product. I spent a lot of time reviewing AC4000 and AC5300 routers and found that the features and specs with this model along with the price fit my needs perfectly. It also has solid professional reviews.

But I had reservations based on user feedback, particularly with recurring dropped connections that required the router to be rebooted on a regular basis. Knowing and accepting the risk, though, I purchased with the hope that the dropped connection issues had been cleared up in recent firmware or that I would be lucky and not have the same issue. Unfortunately, here I am.
Below are details to help you decide whether to purchase the Nighthawk X6S (R8000P).

The good: great specs (tri-band, CPU and offload processors, MU-MIMO, Beamforming, # of external antennas, etc.), solid professional reviews, expected wired and wireless speeds for gigabit connection, good coverage in my house, customizable configuration, bold design, router runs cool, and flawless performance when the connection doesn't drop.

The bad: the only issue I am having is that every 24 hours, the 2.4g band (*the 5g bands do not appear to be affected) will stop allowing traffic. The lights on the router show connected, as do the devices connected to the 2.4g band, but you cannot get to any website or web service.

I use a fairly-customized configuration (specified channels on all bands, no Smart Connect, QoS disabled/WMM enabled, most devices with static IPs, port triggering and port forwarding settings, etc.) and do not believe this to be an issue with the configuration, as many others have attested.

The router, either the hardware itself or the software, simply has an issue where it interrupts the connection after a certain period of time. It’s almost like a timeout or sleep feature since it always happens around the same time: problem exhibits at first use of my 2.4 devices in the morning > reboot > works great all day/evening > but the next morning connected devices can’t get anywhere without another reboot.

***UPDATE 9/3/2018***
After further troubleshooting, I found that the problem appears to be related to how the R8000P handles devices that have built-in network/connection power savings functionality with WMM Enabled. If I disable WMM (which limits speeds btw!) OR if I disable the network power savings feature on the devices (better option!), then I do not experience the dropped connection issue above. I have now had consistent connections and speeds for 6 days without any reboots.
Adding 2 stars.

***UPDATE 9/18/2018***
Router has been completely solid since previous update. I've added a wired Netgear AP (EX7000) plus a few other devices via LAN and wifi and have not experienced the 2.4g band dropped data connection issue at all.
Very happy with this purchase.

Amazon Brand - Vedaka Premium Black Masoor Whole, 1kg
1 month back I purchased almost all Vedaka pulses including Kabuli chana and Kala chana from Amazon because of Pulses' competitive selling price and of Amazon's own brand. Very disappointed with the quality of the pulses. for example, after cooking for almost 1.5 hours in the pressure cooker, the kali urad dal was still quite hard to eat, same goes with chana dal and with almost all the pulses including Kabuli chana and Kala Chana. My suggestion for everyone, don't go with this brand. Can't give it less than one star, my bad

I'm not sure whether the formula has changed OR these were phony versions of Spry gum. The shape was different and the flavor was just awful. I hoped that "stronger longer" might mean something - and it didn't. That was actually a good thing - the taste was so terrible. This was NOT as bad as the cinnamon, but still I would never recommend it. My husband finished them off, so I gave them a 2 because he tolerated them okay.
