The Warren Buffetts Next Door: The World's Greatest Investors You've Never Heard Of and What You Can Learn From Them
The Warren Buffetts Next Door: The World's Greatest Investors You've Never Heard Of and What You Can Learn From Them
I did enjoy most of the stories and the investment strategies profiled in this book. However, I did not think investors who relied on quant's and what I would classify as day trading belonged in a book with Warren Buffett's name in the title. Mr. Buffett would most likely be very amused when some of the investors didn't know the name of the company they invested in because they used mathematical formulas or charts as a basis for buying part of a company.

Some of the investment returns seemed unrealistic because the amount of money invested in a virtual portfolio was in the millions of dollars. However, the author did say he did not look at the one investors brokerage statement to verify actual rates of return leading one to believe he was able to verify real the rates of return for the other investors profiled.

If you are looking for a book that teaches you how to invest, this book will not get the job done. On the back cover, one of the endorsements says "... their unique styles may not be replicable..." and I have to agree. Some of the participants would not fully disclose exactly how they made their investment decisions.

The take away from this book is anyone can be a successful investor if they are willing to first educate themselves and then put in the time necessary for research to generate above average returns. Overall this is a good book and it may give you some ideas how to improve your own investment returns as some investors reveal screening criteria and the websites they use to perform their due diligence. If nothing else, this book will inspire you to work at improving your own investment returns. And since Mr. Buffett's own investment strategy is not replicable, isn't that why we read books with his name in the title?
Elon Musk: This Book Is about Rockets
Elon Musk: This Book Is about Rockets
Evan Loomis and Levi Bethune have put together a fantastic book here: it's playfully laid out in a way that really engages kids, has great illustrations, and it gives kids the opportunity to dream big. I have 5 kids, ages 12 to 2, and they all love the book.

Here's a clip I grabbed this weekend when I saw two of my kids reading it together. As you can see, the 2-year old has learned her cue: "Rockets!" And my 11-year old was telling me yesterday that she wants to invent things . . . I don't think that aspiration came out of the blue.

Satchmo Plays King Oliver
Satchmo Plays King Oliver

(2007 erschien dann auch eine entsprechende Gesamtausgabe der Dukes of Dixieland Sessions in Gestalt der 3-CD-Box "The complete Louis Armstong and the Dukes of Dixieland" von Essential Jazz Classics.)

Empfehlung:

SOBE Elixir, Pina Colada, 20 Fl Oz (Pack of 12)
Exactly as expected but this flavor is very hard to find nowadays so the value for the money is a little off. We moved and it is not available in our area except Panda Express had it and they just discontinued it and switched to a different brand. So we are no longer able to get it anywhere. Really wanted to surprise my kid with it for a birthday present so I paid this high price but feels priceless when they opened their gift and realized they finally got one again and got this whole case. Would consider purchasing continuously if the price was a little cheaper.

By Bob Dylan - Chronicles: Volume One (1st Edition) (9.5.2004)
Many people mentioned early in his career are familiar to me. Had no idea they had anything to do with Bob. He started out with folk, comedy, old time musicians, and and many guys in the music industry. Being in the right place and meeting and impressing certain persons with his songs, he scored a record contract within 9 months while in New York. At 20 he was playing before crowds and created such a sensation that many thought was the new guru and the stardom eventually wore him down and turned him against the press and most of the public. Many funny and intentionally foolish answers to the interviewers.

Leukostrip Wound Closure Strips 76.0 x 6.4 mm / 10 x 3 Strips by Smith & Nephew

Just a Little Christmas (A Cowboy Christmas Book 3)
Just a Little Christmas (A Cowboy Christmas Book 3)
This is a stand alone read and I'm assuming it has a HEA. I have to agree with a one star reviewer. The story was boring. I didn't make it all the way to the end. I just couldn't continue. A hometown woman returns home with her tail between her legs. She couldn't wait to leave for the big city where things were so much better. However, after quitting college and marrying a tool, she is home, divorced and very pregnant. Her mother and brother still leave in the small town and they are glad to have her home. She looks down on their very simple and easy going lifestyle. She has her BMW, her teacup poodle, her expensive clothes and that is about it. Doesn't seem she was very happy since her husband was a cheater and dropped her as soon as he got a wealthy woman to marry him. She winds up pregnant when they had a trial period to try and save the marriage. He doesn't know she is pregnant but probably doesn't care anyway.

Of course, there is the "boy" she left behind with a broken heart. Now I know ranch life in a small town is not for everyone so I'm not putting her down for wanting to leave. But her attitude about everyone that likes it needs a little work. She has returned home to have her baby mainly because she didn't have anywhere else to go. The story was just so every day mundane, what they had for dinner, what locals were doing, her ex-boyfriend's problems. Geez, this poor guy just had nothing going for him, about to lose his ranch to crooks, his wife passing 4 years before, his dad passing a year ago. No money, nothing to look forward to, etc. It just kept going downhill for me and it was Christmas time. But even the decorations around town were old and looked it. I was really hoping for a good second chance with a more mature heroine and a good feeling. I didn't get that. The books just wasn't for me. Others may find it better than I did so don't let me discourage you from reading. All a matter of what you enjoy. I really hate I paid for this one.

I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 11/8/17
The Hidden Story of Narnia: A Book-By-Book Guide to C. S. Lewis' Spiritual Themes
The Hidden Story of Narnia: A Book-By-Book Guide to C. S. Lewis' Spiritual Themes
This is a book-by-book narrative and quite well done. I read the Narnia Chronicles years ago and caught a few of the spiritual references but not all by far. C.S. Lewis was such a master of story telling, bringing in the meaning of scriptural passages: the dangers of pride, forgiveness, sacrifice, the worth of each individual. And you don't know ahead of time how he's going to work this in or where the story will lead. Well worth the price and time spent.

Jelly Belly Harry Potter Jelly Slugs Gummi Candy Slugs 2.1 oz (Packaging May Vary)
I'm a HUGE fan of anything and everything Harry Potter, which is why after trying Bertie Bott's every flavor bean and the chocolate frogs, I thought to purchase the Jelly Slugs. While they are yummy, for the amount in the package, and the quality overall, I'd say my money would have been better spent on another Harry Potter product. These aren't even packaged to share. It's a really small might-as-well-be-single-serve bag.

Harry Potter Quidditch Accessory Kit
Very poor quality.
The gloves are identical so unless you have two right hands, they don’t work. Received knee pads instead of shin guards as pictured...and everything is tiny. My 10 year old is petite, but I think this product must have been made for little kids (ages 4-7). All of this could probably have been overlooked for the purpose of a costume had the elastic not torn making it too much of a hassle to repair and wear. We’re really disappointed and I highly suggest you save your money!
Lee: A Life of Virtue (The Generals)
Lee: A Life of Virtue (The Generals)
Traitor. Divider. Defender of slavery. This damning portrayal of Robert E. Lee has persisted through 150 years of history books. And yet it has no basis in fact. Nonetheless, a current wave of political hysteria is urging Americans to deny and eliminate parts of our history that should be an object lesson we should remember --- tearing down statues of Lee and others without understanding who these people were and what they stood for.

This is the story of an upright gentleman who always tried to do the right thing. He was first and foremost a Virginian whose family in America pre-dated the United States by over 150 years. A graduate of West Point followed by 32 years of service in the U. S. Army, primarily as an Army engineer who was eventually pulled into the Mexican-American conflict, he became an honored commander. He considered slavery a moral outrage but was a staunch supporter of state’s rights as designed under the Constitution. When push came to shove, he opted to follow his state, Virginia, when it finally seceded from the Union. Throughout, he stood for what he believed, acting ethically at all times in support of his family and his country as he believed it to be. Indeed, a virtuous man whose present desecration is undeserved, unworthy, and damaging to America. Our denial and destruction of our history will lead to our destruction of our nation --- the enemy within.

This succinct and informative book should be required reading in our schools (if indeed they still objectively teach American history) lest we forget what’s important about our history and its heroes.

Design Toscano Sous la Vigne Pedestal Plant Stand, Dimensions: 15" Wx15 Dx36 H 43 lbs, Bronze
From what I’ve seen, Design Toscano offers pieces for big ranges of styles and budgets. Without an eye towards collecting the Design Toscano brand in particular, I have a small assortment that makes me happy. One of the oldest, and a favorite, is a piece called Witchie Witch. Even though it has a Halloween theme, we keep it on display all year for its eclectic appeal and ability to start conversations. The Sous la Vigne Pedestal Plant Stand is the most recent to come our way. While it’s the total opposite in looks and style of Witchie Witch, this fat cheeked cherub plant stand is equally quirky and appealing. It’s not huge at 27 x 19 x 33", but it’s big enough to be noticeable because it’s finished to look like a 18th-century classic rococo bronze statue (this is made of resin). It’s elaborate, ornamental and over the top enough to start conversations.
Travel Ease Contour Memory Foam Pillow, Bedding Hypoallergenic Bamboo Charcoal Neck Pillow Orthopedic Butterfly-Wings Shape Cervical Pillow for Neck Pain Relief, Side Sleepers and Back Sleepers
Travel Ease Contour Memory Foam Pillow, Bedding Hypoallergenic Bamboo Charcoal Neck Pillow Orthopedic Butterfly-Wings Shape Cervical Pillow for Neck Pain Relief, Side Sleepers and Back Sleepers
If you're suffering from neck, back or overall aches and pains, then this contoured, memory foam pillow might help to alleviate most of your pain, for much less money than visiting a chiropractor.

The pillow arrives tightly compressed in a travel bag, which is handy for when you want to take it on the road with you. After opening the bag and letting the pillow gasp it's first breath, it is completely expanded in less than 30 mins, and by this time, most of the chemical odour has faded.

The contoured center is the perfect cradle for the head and neck, whilst the taller sides provide more support for side-sleeping. Be aware that the height of the sides is only 4 inches, which wont be high enough for a low of people (dimensions are shown in product images).

The pillow itself dissipates heat well, has just the right amount of 'sink' and support, and is heavy enough to stay put as you sleep, which combines to create a relaxing and comfortable sleep. My only gripe is the height of the pillow, which is slightly too low for my perfect pillow preference, but is also too tall to have two pillows stacked.

The included pillow cover is tailored for the pillow's unique shape, and is soft, has a nice texture and is easy to remove and out on, due to the large, full-length zip.

[2 Pack] Screen Protector for iPhone 12 Pro Max, [HD Clear] [Bubble-Free] [Anti-Scratch] [Case Friendly] Tempered Glass Film for iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7 inch
I bought one of these and one of the screen protector was scratched on the corner. I used the tray but that completely ruined my first screen protector, it caused the sides to lift up and it didn’t stick to the phone. I drove to Verizon and they were able to professionally put on the screen protector without the tray and it looks nice. The quality is nice and it seems like there’s no screen protector on my phone. I like it but I don’t like how the other screen protector came scratched.
Adjustable Height Stand Steady Standing&Sitting Gas Spring Riser Desk Converter for Health Benefits and No Assembly Needed,Converts Any Desk or Cube to a Sit/Stand Up Desk,Black (25.6 x 15.7)
Adjustable Height Stand Steady Standing&Sitting Gas Spring Riser Desk Converter for Health Benefits and No Assembly Needed,Converts Any Desk or Cube to a Sit/Stand Up Desk,Black (25.6 x 15.7)
I missed my fancy standing desk at my office when my company had us all start working from home due to coronavirus. After the first month or two my back was killing me and I was looking for a cheap alternative. This is big enough for my 15.5" laptop, mouse pad, and coffee mug. It doesn't take up the whole surface of my actual desk so I have room for a few other things close at hand, such as a notebook. The mechanism for raising and lowering is very simple, just squeeze the handle. You do need to use a bit of force to get it to go back down. One side of the legs doesn't really move, the other side has nice little wheels so it doesn't scratch the desk when raising and lowering.

I am 5' 7" tall with no shoes on and I wanted a standing desk that would go high enough to be a comfortable angle. It partly depends on how high of a desk/table you set this on, but it goes raise high enough that my keyboard is a comfortable height for typing when raised. It feels very stable and sturdy, even at the tallest height. I do not worry that it will tip over if I bump it slightly.

My only complaint is that when lowered completely, it is about 2+ inches taller than my desk. So I do get some shoulder and neck tension from raising my arms to type and use my mouse while in a sitting position. Raising my chair height doesn't totally fix it. So the ergonomics are better than sitting all the time, but not quite as nice as a more expensive standing desk, like a Varidesk or motorized desk.
The Mask: A Vanessa Michael Munroe Novel
The Mask: A Vanessa Michael Munroe Novel
“The Mask” by Taylor Stevens is the fifth novel in the Vanessa Michael Munroe series. The worst part about this book is the fact that the next book in the series hasn’t been written yet. Every time I get a taste of Vanessa Michael Munroe I am completely sucked into her world. “The Mask” was no different.

At the beginning of the book Munroe arrives in Japan. Trying to recover after the ordeals that she went through in “The Catch”, Munroe is playing house with Bradford while he is working as a security consultant. Just when Munroe begins to feel at peace, Bradford is arrested for murder. Munroe is infuriated. She knows that there were things that Bradford was keeping from her and his dishonesty feels like a betrayal. But Bradford’s arrest is not something she can walk away from. In order to save Bradford, she needs to shed the girlfriend façade and once again, become the detached spy to dig into the work he was doing. Although it is a personal interest for her, she needs to be all business to save him.

Part of what makes these novels so interesting is how Munroe and Bradford are so muddled in what is right and wrong. “Given the life that Bradford had led, he wasn’t an innocent man. / War made murderers out of honest men – proclaiming guiltless by law what the conscience would later bear in shame – but there was innocence and then there was innocence, and if Bradford had targeted a kill, then the body would have disappeared and the evidence scattered and never found.” (The Mask, pg 53/54). There is no question in her mind that Bradford did not commit the murder he was arrested for, but she also acknowledges that he is not someone completely innocent. This is something that I really like about these books. Munroe knows that she is not your typical hero. She does a lot of bad things, and worse than that, she enjoys it most of the time. She is truly flawed, but at her heart she wants to do the right thing. Despite all that she has been through, she wants to help.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, but not to everyone. Established Munroe fans would definitely enjoy reading “The Mask” as I certainly did. But Munroe is a unique character that is constantly pushed up against violence and has to retaliate, often losing herself and pushing a little too far. Killing isn’t just an instinct to Munroe when she is cornered, but something she craves. This reluctant bloodlust is part of why Munroe would not appeal to everyone. She is a dark and complex character, and she isn’t for everyone. Personally, I think Munroe is amazing and I cannot wait to read the next book.

Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills, 600 g
I bought this product as it was the only biscuit available from Amazon at that time. My expectations were less when I ordered the product. Once the product arrived and we started having it, we have developed quite a taste for it and placed repeat orders as well. I was surprised to note that it was an ITC product. In the past, some of the other biscuits from ITC were not so great (in terms of taste), but this one is really very good. Do try it and you will want more for sure.

I am a cigarette smoker. Yes, I know I need to quit, but at age 63 it's been a battle. That said my kids got me a lovely puppy for Christmas because my sweet dog Brody that was 20 years old had passed away. I live with my son and spend most of my time in my own room and don't smoke anywhere else in the house but my room. The house we live in was built in the 1930s and my room is an add on soon top of the smoke, there is a battle with dust from outside due to the old brick roads. This little air purifier is AMAZING. After just running it for the first 3 hours on high my daughter-in-law said she could NOT smell cigarette smoke when she walked in the room. My eyes no longer gummed up at night after sleeping (left it on low) and I wasn't sneezing my head off when I woke up due to allergies. I purchased an extra filter because I wasn't sure how long the one that came with it would last. I am on a fixed income and it's worth the extra expense to me. I have cut back on the smoking greatly ,so this is a blessing... thank you Mooka for making a product that works and is affordable for a lower income person......... C. A. Powers

I am so desperate for some sort of structure whilst "working from home" (by which I probably mean staring at the laptop in the hope that someone will respond to one of my increasingly simple emails) that I now only reward myself with coffee at set times; 7.30 at breakfast, 11 post dog walk and again at 4 (decaff only - need to sleep so I can be up before 7.30 to repeat the whole exercise). This hasn't, however stopped my endless quest for a tasty alternative to the standard issue Dolce gusto pods. These particular ones are my latest foray into the world of independent suppliers and I have to say they are not at all bad. Not great and sadly not quite up to regulation issue but if furloughed pennies are tight they are a fair substitute. They taste of coffee and don't cost the earth. One word of warning though. They take forever to fill a cup. They don't trickle, they drip in a half- hearted fashion with all the enthusiasm of my teenage and school deprived son when asked to clean under his bed. Perhaps this means the hot water swirls around longer in the pod harvesting the flavour or perhaps it's just a cheaper pod. I don't know, answers on a post card, or perhaps an email. You know I'm waiting......
