Invest like Warren Buffett, Be the Intelligent Investor: A Guide to Investing from Life & Business Lessons, Wit & Wisdom of Warren Buffett Portfolios, Stocks, and Businesses
I have read this book thoroughly! I liked it very much. I find it very interesting, catchy and inspiring. Many people can learn from Warren Buffett, from his experience and knowledge. The most important thing for reaching happiness and success is hoping for that and believing in yourself. One must have courage ad faith in himself. This book can teach that not always the knowledge can help to become a successful man, but also one's courage, faith and strength. Warren Buffett is a great role model for all those, who want to become successful in business and in life.
Slaying Goliath: The Passionate Resistance to Privatization and the Fight to Save America's Public Schools
Slaying Goliath: The Passionate Resistance to Privatization and the Fight to Save America's Public Schools
Diane Ravitch’s book is a powerful weapon describing the fight between David, representing the resistors—the advocates of public schools, and the corporate Goliath, the disruptors—advocates of privatized education. I’ve learned a lot from this beautifully written and engaging discussion about the rise and fall of the disruptors and hopeful victory of the resistors. But I missed a satisfactory explanation of the underlying cause of this struggle.

In telling this story Diane Ravitch rightly points out: 1) that the root cause of low performing schools is poverty, and 2) unlike the earlier rich who wanted to reform and improve the public schools, the new wealthy disruptors (Goliaths) don’t trust the public sector which includes “government schools” and they don’t trust local control, so they use philanthropy and the promotion of charter schools as devices to control under the guise of helping and 3) for the disruptors profits are more important than students.

In addition to the above three points Ravitch poses, what I believe the central question of the book on page 140 “Why were the billionaires so eager to open charter schools whose results were not different from those of public schools and for which there was very little demand? Why not put their millions into fighting for better funding for public schools, where the vast majority of students are?” but she never really answers her question. Instead, she left me with inciteful stories of the fight between David and Goliath. I was hoping for an answer that also pointed to the underlying cause of the battle—the economy.

What’s missing in this analysis is the sinister C-word (capitalism) the privatizing, isolating, profit-maximizing engine and creator of vast inequality that sets the stage for the battle between Goliath and David. We need a chapter on the relationship between capitalism and public education. Despite the excellent stories “Slaying Goliath” in uncritically accepting capitalism as the norm will only propose reforms that will eventually fail as did the new deal.

By approaching problems with schooling through an analysis of capitalism resistors will be able to act more effectively in their battle with Goliath, for they will see: 1) where poverty comes from (the class struggle and growing inequality) and 2) how Goliath, in his frenzy for profit and growth considers schooling to be a training ground for compliant workers and consumers 3) why Goliath has grown so powerful and can influence education, the economy, and government through lobbying and control of the media.
Welcome to the Future Which Is Mine
Welcome to the Future Which Is Mine
There are a few inspired pieces in here: The ones about "how the simulation we live in is, in fact, a simulation of a simulation," about electric cars having the right to vote, and Musk finding "a new thing we can breathe" stand out.

Unfortunately, a comparable number of the articles are hopelessly insipid, starting with the annoying, overly long Foreword by "Mark Zuckerberg," and plodding straight into:

* Sending "Other Bulls**t" into space
* Tips for avoiding being jettisoned into space by Musk
* The Cars.com plan to colonize Mars
* Elon's plan to steal the world's greatest monuments
* Colonizing the sun
* Woke/Black Panther (which absurdly casts Musk as a West Coast Progressive, while in real life his favorite president is Ronald Reagan)
* Mutant mole people
* Musk electroshocking his employees (no, not to get them to work harder, just to "prepare them for lightning strikes," which captures the "voice" of Musk referring to himself as "just a regular old guy" who has ideas "circling around the old Musk brain")
* Organ donor match for Musk
* Eternal life

And the one about Gerald the Gorilla. Gawd, that was irretrievably pointless.

In between, you'll find the one-joke "Boring Machine"/"My Junk" expanded into 4x as many words as it needed; a piece on Musk's "death ray"; the "Internet of Pants"; and one on Musk enjoying "normal human activities."

Plus, the interrupting pages of uninspired "Inspirational quotes from Elon Musk," and of "Elon Musk's Latest Invention," the latter of which are all (i) too small to read comfortably even on a monitor, and (ii) not worth one @BoredElonMusk tweet.

Overall, maybe 30% of the book is worth reading.
Cornered in Shallow Water: One Man's Journey from Crippling Fear to Freedom and Faith
Cornered in Shallow Water: One Man's Journey from Crippling Fear to Freedom and Faith
“Faith is unnecessary if you know the outcome before you jump!”, is one of many quotes I will remember from reading this book. The author is vulnerable and real as he relays to his readers the fear that challenges him each day of his journey. His fear seems crippling to him as he faces the unknown realities of life choices he needs to make that will affect those he loves most. Even in the face of undeniable confirmation from God through scripture and wise council, the author finds it extremely difficult to step out of his comfort zone and take that step of faith that leads him into the unknown and mysterious path where God wants to lead. I love how the author expresses to the reader that scripture reveals the truth we need to step out and follow where God leads. I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with their own battles of indecision, fear, or really any obstacle in the path where God is waiting with His arms outstretched and ready to receive us. The only thing that held me back from a five star review was wanting to know more of the backstory, however the depth of the story as it develops was enough for me to keep reading with heightened interest to the conclusion.
My No-Knead Bread Cookbook: From the Kitchen of Artisan Bread with Steve
My No-Knead Bread Cookbook: From the Kitchen of Artisan Bread with Steve
I got sucked into the international whirlwind of no- knead artisan bread when Jim Layhey published his recipe and u-tube video through the New York Times. It is now the only way I make bread and his book "My Bread" is my bible. However, I came across Artisan Bread with Steve on u-tube recently and I liked the way he extended Jim Lahey's bread revolution even further by developing lots of ideas for flavouring the bread and using the basic bread recipe to make other things, like pretzels, pizzas etc. The only thing I disagree with him about is cooking time, my preference is for more cooking time to get a crunchy crust as Lahey recommends, but that's personal. I would highly recommend Steve's u-tube tutorials and his bread book if you are keen to make the easiest bread in the World, possibly the easiest cooking recipe full stop. I mix my dough in the evening and cook it the next day whenever it suits me. I now prefer to cook in pyrex rather than my cast iron pot, so you don't need anything expensive to cook bread. I would also recommend you check out the New York Times no-knead bread recipe on u-tube which started this whole phenomenon and give it a go -even/especially if you have never cooked bread before. It is no fail if you follow the recipe and it will be better than any bread you have bought from a shop. Thanks Steve and Jim.
Own It: Oprah Winfrey In Her Own Words (In Their Own Words)
Own It: Oprah Winfrey In Her Own Words (In Their Own Words)
I am not happy with the book. It is just chapter after chapter and paragraph after paragraph of quotes of words (for 144 pages) that have presumably been uttered by Oprah. Not even the introduction to the book was written by Oprah. For some reason I thought it was firstly a motivational book that one can read as a book and I was hoping Oprah would have had some input into it. It is just a book of separate quotes, which the two authors sorted under chapter headings. No sentences to link the quotes. I think a dictionary is more motivational. The title states "in her own words" and it is actually not correct and is quite deceiving. The book is about words that Oprah might have uttered, but it is not written by Oprah.

I like the interplay between BM and the chorus, when he questions evil people in the world.
Of course it's all phoney, biut he has greatartistic reach tom the audience.
He died from drug overdose. so I guess he was not"ready."
Love his music. He has many imitators, but few up to his artistic level.

The Very Best Of (180G Vinyl)
Sadly, this record does not work. It must be poorly made. It plays, but is all warbley and skips a ton. I know it is the record, because my others play just fine on the same player. I don’t know who makes these, but they need to review production. I would have loved this album, but the record itself is just garbage 🙁
Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics
Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics
For better or worst, Aretha will be forever known as the woman who transformed Otis Redding's #2 R&B self-penned "Respect" into a signature #1 song. Throughout her entire career, she has always tackled her own versions of contemporary classics to varying degrees of success.
Here she is directed to recreate an entire album of well known classics by some of the greatest female singers and their songs of all time. The title within itself spells a yellow caution sign.
The use of contemporary producers from Andre 3000 (Outkast), Babyface to Harvey Mason adds an interesting element except anything that these producers have achieved is hard to hear here. The most imaginative factor on this by the numbers covers album is the employ of mashups from "I'm Every Woman" mashed with "Respect", the tired "I Will Survive" with Destiny's Child's "Survivor" to "Rolling in the Deep" mashed with Diana's version of "Ain'tNo Mountain High Enough". This is a great idea with varying results.
When Whitney tackled "I'm Every Woman" she truly honored the original Chaka Khan version and made it her own. There is not one of these covers and mash-ups that reach such levels of musical ecstasy.
Sonically, she sings most songs in a chesty soprano that sounds like a friend of mine who would sing a long to her songs in an atrocious style that was excruciating, it was actually kind of funny. Aretha sounds like a drag queen lip syncing these songs whose microphone mistakenly is turned on. It's not pretty.
Just because she has the machine of a major label again behind her, this mess of an album has done better commercially than her last studio album (supposedly took 5 years to find a distributor) and now the overwrought heritage artists Christmas album. It already has earned her first #1 R&B album in 32 years. But the actual numbers tell a little different story. Diana's similarly themed "ILoveYou" sold essentially the same first week's units in 2007 but only ranked #16 R&B and #32 pop.
She did a great boost for the album by giving a rousing performance of "Rolling in the Deep" on Letterman, only upstaged by a despondent Cissy Houston looking like she is understandably still mourning.
Aretha already covered The Supremes classic, "You Keep Me Hanging On", so why another version. The inclusion of the oh so tired "I Will Survive" already condemns this to today's version of cutout bins which is probably slashed Mp3 album prices.
Davis should have resisted posting samples early because the negative reviews came pouring in except from the diehard Aretha fans. Davis has repeated this covers concept with Manilow, Santana, Rod Stewart and Harry Connick Jr., with only the first 2 Manilow cover albums exceeding commercial expectations.
Great artists like Diana Ross, Patti Labelle and Aretha should have lifetime recording contracts for whenever they are moved to record. That is not the case as the new jack label heads weren't even able to garner a single platinum album so far in 2014. Sure heritage artists may be passed their commercial prime or relegated to covers albums, duet albums and/or Christmas albums which these 3 ladies have all been directed to do. Only Diana Ross rose above the norm with two beautiful Christmas albums, "Christmas in Vienna" and "A Very Special Season" that were well received internationally though didn't get the same reaction here. Touring is where these ladies seem to still be vibrant. Why not a sizzling live album instead of massacring "Nothing Compares to U" or "Last Dance".

Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong go well together. You can hear the friendship in their singing. I would have loved to sit in on the recording.
Rare & Unreleased Recordings From the Golden Reign
Rare & Unreleased Recordings From the Golden Reign
La "Queen of Soul", sur cet album, pourrait plutôt s'appeler "Queen of Love songs".
Flo-Kem 11192 Enzyme Odor Eliminator with Pina Colada Fragrance, 1 Gallon
Flo-Kem 11192 Enzyme Odor Eliminator with Pina Colada Fragrance, 1 Gallon
I noticed that one (?) of our cats was peeing on the carpet (will know for sure when I get the camera set up! 😂) and I tried shampooing, vinegar, baking soda and a product called Dumb Cat but nothing got rid of the smell. I got this yesterday along with a black light. The carpet lit up and I sprayed this on the spots and will go over them again tonight and hopefully get it shampooed this weekend. It has definitely taken away the smell! Now I want to empty their litter boxes and spray them down with this. Just for fun I thought I would see how clean ( or not) the toilet was with the black light before I went to work this morning. I have to say that for the first time I can remember I couldn't wait to get home and clean the toilet! It "looks" clean! I can also say that this is the first time I've ever cleaned the toilet in the dark with a black light! I don't think I'll ever clean it again without this product or the black light! Chances are if you think your toilet is clean, this product and a light will prove you wrong! The scent is great and I will order more when this gets low.
Slow Train Coming by Dylan, Bob Original recording remastered edition (2004) Audio CD
Slow Train Coming by Dylan, Bob Original recording remastered edition (2004) Audio CD
There is a lot I would like to write about people reviewing records, Cd's and music in general but that would be USELESS. The point I'm would like to make is: review should be about each particular edition of each particular album or record on a particular medium. People, at least 90% (or most of them) , are buying because they know this particular piece of music or the artist, they've chosen to buy. So for all of you who are writing abut the history or discography and detailed biography of any artist - it is a waste of time, do not brag about your knowledge, who cares?
What I'm interested in is the quality of a particular edition of a particular album or record. How does it sound in comparison to the original. Period.
That said I'll write about this album, one of my very favorite records which I own already in three different formats.
First of all - it is (my copy of course), junk, crap, absolute rip of, this record released by Music on Vinyl (yes, Amazon specifies the label, as "International") it is nicely packaged, but the quality or lack of it is disheartening. The background noise is just awful, there are pops and clicks just like on an old, used record. I hoped for improved sound and what I've go is piece of vinyl junk. My old "overplayed" copy sound much better and "Cleaner" than this. For the same reason I just requested refund for recently released record by ULTRAVOX - Vienna (I was promised a good copy by the seller as a refund - I shall find out.) Same goes for this record, I'll be requesting refund or replacement.
Music on this album should 5 stars, but for the quality of the pressing gets 1, although it should be - 0
I buy a lot of music on Amazon and most of it is Vinyl or SACD, because of the quality of sound, I wish all of the music or at least my favorite album and records would be released on SACD or downloadable hi resolution files, just to avoid this kind of problems.
Yes, Vinyl Rules!!!
Unfortunately there are a lot of people trying to take advantage of music lovers. Just like the "artists" from Music On Vinyl.
24V Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter 3000Watt DC 24V to AC120V with Dual AC Outlets with Remote Control 2.4A USB and LED Display
24V Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter 3000Watt DC 24V to AC120V with Dual AC Outlets with Remote Control 2.4A USB and LED Display
I have used GIANDEL inverters before, and love their products. I am LOVING this new 3000w inverter! I finally have found an inverter that will power my portable AC unit, fan on high, 3.3 cu ft fride/freezer, TV, laptop, and everything else that I have plugged in my conversion van all at once! Granted it drains the batteries really quick, but that's why I run my motor while I have the AC running. What's nice is that the inverter turns itself off when the batteries are low and leaves me with enough reserve power to start my van back up to recharge the system again. It comes packaged very well. The only complaint that I have is that the mounting holes to screw the unit down are directly below other stuff that sticks out like the battery posts. This made installing the unit extremely difficult even for me and I'm a contractor by trade. Other than the hole placement, this is an amazing unit. I would HIGHLY recommend getting this inverter to power your RV or anything else. Plus it has an 18 month warranty and I can tell you from personal experience that they stand behind that warranty. The one time I had an issue with my old 2000w inverter after a year of owning it, they sent me a replacement in 3 days.
Get Hired!: Winning Strategies to Ace the Interview, Revised Edition
Get Hired!: Winning Strategies to Ace the Interview, Revised Edition
I LOVE this book! I've been out of work for a while, and a friend recommended it to me. I had had several interview with little success, so I thought, why not? I'm so glad I found it and did the exercises. They really made me understand myself better, and how I could apply my skills to a new position. I've been recommending this book to everyone I know who's out of a job.
X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut
X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut
THE FILM: I'll just cut to the chase. Was it worth the wait for this longer cut of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST? Yes, and no. While not essential in terms of the overall story arc, the additional scenes with Rogue give some more time to the future timeline and restore some balance with the 1970's timeline. However, I sincerely feel like only Rogue fans (and apparently there are plenty, otherwise they wouldn't have released this) will appreciate that it's her. The most significant addition is a cool sequence which has Magneto and Iceman rescue Rogue from Xavier's school, which has been taken over for research purposes with Rogue as the test subject. Besides that, there are some additional character/dialogue snippets. Rogue's function in this longer cut is to replace Kitty Pryde when she is severely wounded during one of Wolverine's fits. I actually thought this made quite a bit of sense, although the difficulty they have to go through to procure her probably didn't. Other little changes I noticed was an alternate version of a short scene where Wolverine tells Beast he doesn't survive in the future, and a humorous mid-credits scene with Bolivar Trask in Magneto's former prison. Ultimately, I feel about the same way about both cuts. The Rogue Cut feels a little more complete, as there is more weight placed on the future timeline and therefore more events can play in parallel. However, aside from the rescue sequence, Rogue merely functions as a plot device and doesn't really add anything to the overall story. For non-Rogue fans, the theatrical cut will probably do just fine although this longer version does have its merits.

THE EXTRAS: There is actually quite a bit more material here than was provided with the "Ultimate Edition" that I reviewed last year. On the feature disc, there are separate audio commentaries for each cut of the film. That alone makes this worth a purchase, in my opinion. As for the featurettes, the 50-ish minute "Mutant vs. Machine" hit a lot of the same beats as the collection of featurettes in the previous release, although there was additional interview footage that went into information specific to the Rogue Cut. More valuable and insightful, in my opinion, was "X-Men: Unguarded," which was a 30-minute informal round-table discussion with much of the cast, and led by Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg. It was interesting to me to hear the cast candidly discuss their experiences on the films and working with each other. One thing I did notice at the end was the 2014 copyright date, so this feature could have potentially gone on the previous release, but I guess they wanted to save some stuff for this. Beyond all of the above, there are additional galleries of storyboards, costumes and concept art, as well as a mostly worthless "sneak peek" at the upcoming FANTASTIC FOUR movie.

OVERALL: The question on most people's minds is "Should I get this or not?" The answer to that is yes, regardless of whether or not you shelled out for the "Ultimate Edition" last year (which had the 3D version of the theatrical cut). With this "Rogue Cut" release, you get both versions of the film in 2D, along with commentaries for each, something that even the previous releases did not have. The special features in general are all unique to this version, although this probably won't matter to people who just watch the movie. For those who held out this long, the "Rogue Cut" is the one to get. For everyone else, there is enough new material here to warrant a double dip.
Adventures of Thunderstorm: Return of Thor
Adventures of Thunderstorm: Return of Thor
There are bad movies(twilight, snakes on a plane, the last air bender) and there are good movies(the dark knight, dances with wolves, return of the king) and good bad movies( troll 2, naked gun, evil dead, gremlins) and then there's bad horrible , abominations that offend every sense of humanity, logic, emotion, and lighting. Adventures of thunderstorm: the return of Thor is one of them.
This movie might be the worst movie on Netflix instant. And I've seen a lot of garbage on Netflix instant and the only movies as bad as this are battle New York day 2 and the black knight returns. I'm sure there's more on there I'm just afraid to look.
The very beginning of this pile will have pulling your hair out as it forces you to read a novel of worthless information and backstory that is utterly unnecessary mainly because you figure all that garbage out throughout the film. It was a waste.
It cuts ton Asgaurd the realm of the Norse gods. It's the saddest excuse for special effects I've seen this decade. It's mainly a still of a Celtic church with stars around it. Then Odin and Thor start talking to each about a new hero needs to rise or some crap, who cares really. Apparently Thor and Odin are just gigantic wizard of oz heads that hang out by a Celtic church in the stars. Amazing.
Then they introduce us to some guy thats a high level military scientist who's creating a super soldier suit. This is our hero of the film. He's is poor, lazy , dimwitted, self centered, unfit, just all all-around unlikeable. The worst part is they made him like this on purpose. He is the worst protagonist I have ever seen in a movie and I'm not just saying that, he literally IS the worst. He's by no means the worst actor in the film, so that's a plus I guess.
Anyway, he's suppose to also be a distant relative to Thor and he and his even more lamer buddy made a super suit for the military that just looks offensively atrocious. It looks like a mix between batman and iron man. What the suit does is....I don't know. They tried to garble a bunch of technical gibberish to make suit sound like it actually did things. It even had Thor's hammer with it lol. They claim it was an electrical stabilizer thingy and even one of the scientist said " I think it looks like a hammer" lol classic. I also didn't realize top grade scientists that worked for our military were poor losers that drove crappy cars and worked in confined rented offices with only one computer and a clipboard. Amazing.
The film just craps all over itself from this point on. The acting will have you laughing at every other line. The villain dude will make you laugh at every line. He's the worst actor in the film. Hearing him deliver a line is like watching an old lady fall down an escalator. at first ,its funny been then you want to help them. The thick Canadian accent didn't help either. Nothing says sinister like Canadian right? He was just awful, I wanted to pat him on the back and say with a smile "you gave it your best shot, maybe let someone else try now".
The fight scenes were perhaps the biggest blunder of this suckhole of a movie. Slow pace, sloppy and down right confusing. I honestly don't know how you can make a worse fight scene. Every shot, every line, every fight scene, every set piece, every sound effect and special effect was just a pure disaster. I don't know if this movie was made by someone who's trying to get their work noticed in Hollywood, or if they're just comic fans with time and money and zero experience or if someone tried to make an easy buck of the real Thor movie or all the above. All I know is, once the laughter at this horrible film stopped all I felt was offended. Offended that these people thought we could be entertained by this or be fooled into buying it on DVD. It's a failure and all copies and people involved in this film should be destroyed. Stay away. I'm going to watch the next pile of crap I can find on Netflix an review that too. people must know to stay way from horrors that some film makers bring to amazon and Netflix and red box etc..... My wife will have to endure the suffering with me and my crusade. AMERICAN WARSHIPS ( rip off of the big budget film battleship) your next!!!!
Don Pepino Pizza Sauce, 14.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
Don Pepino Pizza Sauce, 14.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
I really like the taste of this pizza sauce. I have bought it twice. It is flavorful like the tomatoes were vine ripened. It is mildly sweet, which is perfect for the palate of children for whom I make my weekly pizza. I like the flavor as well (and I like heavily seasoned, spicy food) because of the vine ripened taste, which creates a robust flavor that does not need to be compensated for with extra spice. I just pour this pizza sauce out of the can onto pizza dough, at what a call a medium spread where you can't see the dough underneath but isn't gloppy, which creates a wet end result, spread it evenly, add the Mpzzarella, meat, and Parmesan cheese (in that order) and bake the pizza at 500 degrees (heated to temp then heated for an additional 30 minutes) on my pizza steel. It turns out great every time. It is such a time saver to not have to make homemade pizza sauce. I rarely find premade food products that I like. As a result, I cook almost all dishes from scratch, but this pizza sauce is better than any pizza sauce I have made from scratch.

(I have purchased hundreds of products at Amazon.com. I have never received a product at a free or discounted price in return for a review as of this date. I write reviews to help others decide whether a product suits their needs as hundreds of reviewers on Amazon.com have done for me.

Pizza: A Slice of Heaven: The Ultimate Pizza Guide and Companion
Pizza: A Slice of Heaven: The Ultimate Pizza Guide and Companion
`Pizza, A Slice of Heaven' by New York Times culinary journalist, Ed Levine and a proverbial cast of thousands is a digest of many different opinions about pizza making around the country and around the world. The cover states that the author includes contributions from Nora Ephron, Mario Batali, and Calvin Trillin, but the `and many others' includes many heavyweights in the world of writing about food in general and pizza in particular, including Jeffrey Steingarten, Ruth Reichl, Robb Walsh, and Peter Reinhart.

There have probably been many more books recently on pizza, but the only one really worthy of consideration to my knowledge is Peter Reinhart's recent `American Pie' which takes a much less democratic and much more analytical and rational and professional approach to the search for the greatest pizza. It is immensely satisfying that these two very different books came up with the identical conclusion that the very best American pizza is Chris Bianco at Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, Arizona. Bianco was easy to pick, as he is the only pizzaiolo to have been awarded a best regional chef award by the James Beard Foundation.

For those of us who do not live within easy driving distance of Pizzeria Bianco, all is not lost. Things are especially good for those of us who live in Levine's `Pizza Corridor' stretching from Boston to Washington, D.C., the landing sites for the great wave of immigrants from southern Italy in the latter half of the 19th century. Particularly good are pizzas available in famous shops in New Haven, Connecticut, New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and, to a lesser extent, in Baltimore and Washington.

Levine's book is collected from two or three kinds of articles, depending on how you want to slice them. The most common type of article is the informal survey of pizzeria's in various parts of the country and the world. Many, but not all of these are written by Levine. Others are written by correspondents who report on the state of pizza affairs in lesser pizza hot spots, such as the report from Charlotte by baking teacher Reinhart and the report from Argentina by Tex-Mex expert, Robb Walsh. The non-survey articles can be divided into introductory pieces written by Levine to lay out the land for the survey articles and background articles, many of which are reprints from other authors' collections.

The very best thing about the survey articles is that they give knowledgeable ratings for both whole pies and slices from a very large number of famous and almost famous pizzerias. This means that if you are a serious pizza lover, you can travel to many major cities in the United States and have on hand a reference to several good pizzerias, especially in the northeast corridor. The only drawback about these ratings is that they are not all done by the same people. Some ratings appear in articles by contributors such as Nora Ephron who is not a culinary professional. I will grant that she is a gifted amateur in pizza circles, but there is no guarantee she will evaluate things in exactly the same way as Mr. Levine. Thus, it is important to read the narrative evaluations and not go by just the number of icons given to rating the slices or pies.

The use of so many different contributors means that there is a fair amount of overlap from one article to the next. Levine edited well enough so that this overlap is not annoying, but it is there none the less.

One item which raised my opinion of Mr. Levine's judgment in food matters was his criticism of a Consumer Reports evaluation of frozen pizzas. He not only disagreed with their specific recommendation, but he questioned their overall competance in evaluating food products. I am certain they are honest. I am not certain they pick the right criteria on which to judge things.

In addition to the survey of great independent pizzerias around the country, Mr. Levine also evaluates the great pizza chains and frozen pizza products. There are no big surprises here, as Mr. Levine's opinion of almost all the chains is pretty dismal. While I have probably less than one thousandth of Mr. Levine's experience in evaluating pizza, I have a hunch that pizzas from major chain outlets may show a lot more variability than he may indicate. I am certain that on average, it is simply not as good as the very best you can find, but it may, on average, be as good or better than what you get from an undistinguished local pizzeria. It's the old Howard Johnson rule. It may not be the best, but in unfamiliar cities, you know what to expect from them.

Two pizza icons which get a tepid reaction from Mr. Levine are Chicago style deep dish pizza and California pizza. Levine goes so far as to say that deep dish pizza is really a casserole rather than a pizza. His take on Wolfgang Puck and Alice Waters is relatively gentile, but also tends to treat them as a footnote to the great classic Neapolitan / American pizza standard.

If you are really interested in a serious discussion of what makes a great pizza, and how to make it yourself, then get Reinhart's `American Pie'. If you simply enjoy reading about pizza and want to know where the very best can be found, get this book. Just don't follow any advice found in Jeffrey Steingarten's tongue in cheek essay on how to achieve a very hot pizza baking environment.
Rao's, Pasta Elbow Macaroni, 16 Ounce
Rao's, Pasta Elbow Macaroni, 16 Ounce
These little elbows have the genuine rough texture that pasta is supposed to have when made with the bronze-cut manufacturing process. It allows them to really hold the sauce and not be as slippery as most bulk manufactured dried pasta. This is as close as it gets to handmade in a mass market product. The hold up when cooked and taste yummy. They are a bargain.

One Piece Color Walk Compendium: Water Seven to Paramount War (2)
I love One Piece so it made sense for me to get it. The colors are vibrant and the pages are full of fantastic art by Oda sensei himself. There are even two massive pullout posters inside the book that showcases how much love and care went into producing this book. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to any One Piece fan. If you want more official One Piece merch sold in the states, support this book as well as the firs compendium
Demon Seed
Demon Seed
Many years ago I read the original Demon Seed and completely enjoyed it. I saw the movie too and loved that. When I found Demon Seed had been released on the kindle I jumped up and bought it right away.

I was looking forward to rereading about Susan and the computer her obsessed husband designed. As I started to read it, I was confused. Had my memory betrayed me. Scenes in the book I did not remember. The computer talking about falling for Winona Ryder and Marilyn Monroe? But then it got worse. Corny voice cameos like a bad episode of the Simpsons including Fozzie Bear and Tom Cruise...

One of the more sinister elements, the tentacles that were used to control and protect had gone, replaced by a freaky pervert with chips in his head... It left my head spinning. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch. As the computer/ Fozzie said.

When re-imagining something for a new audience, I would have thought even a note on the books description stating this was a completely new version based on the original. Much as Asimov did with Fantastic Voyage II which the author wrote taking the original version's concept into a new story and setting. Like Lucas with re-releasing "improved and enhanced" versions of Star Wars, Koontz has created something that people will either love or hate. Myself, I frankly have come to hate it. Demon Seed 2.0 is what it should be called. Fans of the original may find themselves feeling lost, let down and disappointed by this new version.

I am sure it will gain a new generation of fans, people will like it for what it is. But in my humble opinion, it just feels like too much effort went into working in new ideas and currently popular themes and celebrities at the cost of what was a great story in it's own right.

One other reviewer suggested there should be a re-release with both versions and I fully agree. At the very least give people a chance to choose which version they prefer. I know for me I would take the unmolested original over this strange new version that deals with child abuse as a back story.

I would have to sum this book up as disappointing.
Daring to Dream (Dream Trilogy Book 1)
Daring to Dream (Dream Trilogy Book 1)
I loved this book and am so impressed with it as an entree to a trilogy. It all leads up to chemistry of the two romantic leads and they absolutely have this in spades, as well as the chemistry and deep friendship between three women. Dreamer, Margo Sullivan, moves as a young girl with her mother from Ireland when her mother takes a housekeeping job with a wealthy, Hotel Chain owning, Templeton family. Margo is essentially welcomed as a member of the family and sister to young Laura and Josh Templeton, as well as an orphaned cousin Kate who also grows up with them in the lap of luxury. Although Margo has always been treated as an equal, she's always aware that the dream is not hers and she grows up with goals that one day she'll have what the Templetons have. To help her obtain that dream, headstrong Margo grows into a stunning young woman and when she turns eighteen, she decides to move to LA to try her hand as a model. She ends up becoming fairly successful in the European market and during a vacation with one of her lovers, she ends up arrested, discovering that said lover is married and a criminal. Due to her lavish lifestyle and her lack of attention to where her money has been syphoned, Margo hits rock bottom and has to figure out what to do next.

Hotel attorney and owner, Josh Templeton, practically Margo's brother with absolutely no blood relation, doesn't know when it happened, but growing up with Margo, he can't help but admit that he's hopelessly in love with her. Josh has watched Margo traipse around the world with her lovers and modeling gigs for 10 years while he secretly watches and waits for his opportunity to sweep her off her feet. He's been an integral part of her life, but he's never found the right time to introduce the concept of anything outside of their platonic relationship.

As Margo is trying to straighten out her life, she ends up rushing home to California to help support Laura Templeton through an ugly divorce and she leans on her two best friends Kate, an accountant, and Laura, a mother and heiress, for support of her own. With no liquid assets and rooms full of luxury stuff she's accumluated over the past ten years, Margo, Laura and Kate, with a little push from Josh, decide to go into the consignment business to sell her things. This provides a career opportunity for Margo, a distraction for Laura, and an investment for Kate.

Throughout the trials and tribulations of starting a new business, Josh is there every step of the way to provide encouragement as well as a reality check for some of Margo's wild ideas but it's the perfect opportunity for them to get together. The sparks absolutely fly between the two and the "girl time" between Margo, Kate and Laura is absolutely precious. This is truly a wonderful story of love and friendship without the misunderstandings and catty backstabbing that can come along with very human emotions. You can connect with Margo's envy of everyone around her, yet it doesn't turn into ugly jealousy and her growth from spoiled princess to, well, spoiled mature woman, is totally believable. It was a great journey and when I find myself needing a little pick me up, I can always turn back to rereading Daring to Dream. The best part is, there's two additional books, Kate and Laura's stories, to follow this one that provide a peak into this happily ever after.
Hanging Woman Creek: A Novel
Hanging Woman Creek: A Novel
Pronto Pike catches a ride on a freight train and meets up with Eddie Holt -- cook, boxer and best partner he's ever had. They take on a job guarding an overwintering herd of cattle lest they get rustled. Well, sure enough, the rustlers appear. The local ranchers gather a bunch of vigilantes to round up the rustlers....but what it really amounts to is covering up their own dirty work. One of Pike's friends, a nester, gets burned out and that's when Pronto gets good and mad.

Thanks to some great descriptive prose, you will be shivering right along with Pronto and Eddie and the Farleys as they try to keep from freezing and out of the clutches of the vigilantes. Maybe you can't quite imagine yourself in one of those saddles blowing on your fingers to ward off frostbite. But then again maybe you can. ;)

An interesting side point is the character, Lottie. The prospects for the mentally ill didn't amount to much back then, but Pronto steps up and gives Lottie some words of wisdom to point her in a new direction. Nice moment.
Word of Mouse
Word of Mouse
This is such a lovely story about Isaiah the little mouse. Sadly Isaiah started life in a laboratory and has been bred especially by the laboratory for experimental purposes. He has 96 brothers and sisters and the laboratory has tagged him on the ear with his number, 97. He is bright blue like the sky and turns out to be a very heroic and smart mouse. He manages to escape with his family of other mice but he is the only one that does not get recaptured.

The journey he goes on as a lonely mouse soon turns to adventure with lots of interesting and clever adventures. He is not your typical common mouse but a rather special mouse that has plenty of unique and useful talents.

The book is very witty, funny and touching. It is beautifully written with lots of words and facts that are slipped in that parents would be happy for their 9 - 11 year old children to know.

Each chapter starts with a quote from none other than Isaiah himself. He is a very charming and brave mouse and regularly reminds his fellow mice that they are mice not rats and therefore superior.

The story has of good morals throughout. There are lots of parts that are very touching, cute, compassionate and sweet. He even has a love interest. The illustrations are amazing and really catch the mood of the scene being described.

I highly recommend this book, it is very special and so beautifully written. I read it in a few hours and couldn't put it down. I was keen to know how it was going to end and the ending was just as special as the rest of the book.

After reading the book it makes you realise that we are all one, we are not that different from Isaiah really ;-)

I have the kindle version and have added photographs.
Jim Henson's Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story
Jim Henson's Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story
I rented this movie on VHS in 2002 and watched it for the first time. This film introduced me to the film acting of Matthew Modine and Mia Sara for the first time. I liked the innocence and naivety of the character Matthew Modine portrayed in this film and Mia Sara was remarkably charming. Matthew and Mia had great romantic chemistry on screen and the film had a smart plot from smart screenwriting. Now my kids are mature enough to watch it so, I enjoyed watching it again recently with my kids. It's a real joy to watch and the bad-Jack-character caused me to be introspective about my life.

The story parallels the Christian doctrine of the first Adam brought sin and spiritual death into the world and the second Adam, Christ, brought spiritual redemption, salvation and restoration for the World. And, in this film, we have the first Jack bringing death and destruction to the other world and the last Jack brings restoration to that other world. The chanting crowds wanting the last Jack to be executed reminded me of some Easter passion plays I've attended.

I'm glad the DVD is rereleased and affordable once again. And, while I write this review, this movie is available to watch for free to Amazon Prime Members.

How do I return this? I want a refund - on a mobile device, the headline is completely in English, and it's not clear until after you've selected "Buy With 1-click" and try to read it that it becomes obvious that the book is completely in German! This is the only version that comes up when you search for the book - unless you want to order the first two as a package, which I did not. On a mobile device the cover like the exact same as the English one and it's impossible to read the German on it. As I said, the headline it's also completely in English and since I've read the description of the book in the past, I didn't read any further but bought it right away, only to be blindsided when I couldn't read a word of it. I want a refund, or to exchange it for the English version.
Vacation with a Commanding Stranger
Vacation with a Commanding Stranger
I like Harlequin romances because they are light and fun. There is usually some misunderstanding that creates conflict of the story, however, I found this one was so ridiculous, because he made assumptions about her that were completely unfounded and absurd, and she is supposed to be a confident school teacher, able to handle herself, but she's a ninny. I found these two main characters were so unlikable that you didn't really care if they got together in the end or not.

Wrebbit 3D - Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle 3D Jigsaw Puzzle, Great Hall and Astronomy Tower - Bundle of 2 - Total of 1725 Pieces
Okay, I have just purchased the complete set and received it this past Wednesday. Overall this puzzle is great! It’s a lot of fun to put the pieces together and assembling all the structures can be very satisfying! But there’s a reason I’m giving this 2 stars. Before my purchase I read reviews that people were missing pieces and swore they were not the ones who lost them. I looked over it and decided to get this set anyways. Upon completing the Astronomy set there were 2 missing pieces which prohibited complete assembly of the puzzle (yes the discard pile of pieces was checked several times by several eyes). We opened up the second set and began working on that while we waited for the missing pieces to arrive through wreddit. We’re now just about finished with this one and we were noticing 2 missing pieces from the base and hoping nothing more than that. Now we have all these structures completed but no completed base to attach them to. We'll soon send in another form through wreddit once we confirm those are the only 2 pieces missing.
!!BUT HERES THE POINT!!
This could’ve all been easily avoided if they packaged these puzzles better. Inside the box of this puzzle is just the pieces! No plastic to hold them all or anything. And even worse then that there are easily noticeable spots in the flaps of the box for pieces to come out throughout handling in the warehouse or what have you. On their website they note pieces can be stuck in the flaps of the cardboard box, which there were.
Overall you can tell it’s going to be an amazing looking puzzle once it’s all together especially if you’re a fan of the HP series. I really hope In the future I can change this review. And of course I’m still going to buy the diagon alley set so hopefully those will be a more pleasurable experience.

UPDATE: I have just received the two missing pieces from the first set which I gotta say was pretty quick to get here! Now I’m just waiting for 2 more from the other set which I’m sure will be here soon.

I changed my review to 4 stars as I’ve now also purchased the knight bus, weasleys burrow, and hogsmeade puzzles from wrebbit. So far the knight buss came with all the pieces and as were wrapping up weasleys house its looking like all the pieces are there for that one as well.

Great looking puzzles!

LEGO The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 79011: Dol Guldur Ambush
Preis / Leistung, 4,5

I am very pleased with this purchase. I kept getting notices from Apple that my iPhone was out of storage. Plugged this baby in, downloaded the JD Drive and within an hour I had all my photos and videos copied from my phone to this photo stick. Took a little longer than I thought but that could have been my fault. Then I took the photo stick and plugged it into my PC and ‘Voila’, within minutes all my photos and videos were copied to the PC. No difference in photo or video quality on all three devices. I then went back and deleted the photos and videos from my phone I did not need immediate access too. Now I have plenty of room on my phone for new pics and videos.
Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box
Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box
Recently, I was in a bit of a dilemma. I sensed I was very aggressive towards some of my colleagues. Luckily, I noticed this I approached my coach, mentor, and boss for help. He told me he was also having a similar challenge a few years ago, and this book helped him to recover, and maybe I could give it a try too.

The problem book solves, as humans, and corporate citizens, we often claim we work in broken organizations, with broken people. They are stupid, lazy, ignorant, uneducated, unhelpful...etc. But the problem sometimes could it be us, not them. But often we are blind towards this.
This book taught me how to identify when I am self-deceptive, what won't fix the problem, and how to fix the problem. In that sense, I would say this is a must-read for every manager.

But I have to say; this is one of the strangest books I have ever read. It is non-fiction written as a fiction. Most probably, they wanted to keep the accountability of the concept with the reader instead of the author. As when we read non-fiction we typically, think, "okay, this bugger is recommending me this book, I'll apply it and see whether it works, if not I'll blame the bugger."

These authors have tried to tell us a story so that we would understand the concept using our comprehension skills and apply. That's the thing I love about the book. But, their storytelling skills are appealing; it is like a B-grade movie or porn, horrible-unrealistic-fake story. In one case, the story invites a COO, CEO, and retired ex-founder to teach this loser middle manager for two days. Unrealistic like porn.

For that reason, I find it as painful read, and score the book 2 out of 5, They should have sent to book to a ghostwriter or proper fiction author to get the story right if they fixed that this would have been a great book.

But, I would still recommend it to any struggling manager like me—pretty cool and eye-opening content.
Alaska Spark (Blazing Hearts Wildfire Series Book 1)
Alaska Spark (Blazing Hearts Wildfire Series Book 1)
I was gripped from the first page of this book which is a roller-coaster of a read, taking in firefighting and two uncertain lovers. The heroine has been engaged to a firefighter before and found he was playing around. She doesn't feel like falling for someone who seems to shy away from the commitment word. The hero falls for her rather heavily and although up until now has been a player, he begins to wonder if settling for one might be his answer to happiness. There's also a rather nasty villain. As you'd expect, the hero and heroine find their way through the smoke and a few nail-biting adventures to true love, and the villain gets his come-uppance in a most satisfactory way. If you're looking for an exciting and page-turning read with satisfactory characters who are well-portrayed, then go for it. I shall be excited to see the next book in the series. My thanks to the author for all her hard work.

1 ft iPhone Charger, 2 Pack Short Lightning Cable 1 Foot Nylon Braided Charging & Syncing iPhone Charger Cord 1 feet Compatible with iPhone Xs/XR/XS Max/X/7/7Plus/8/8Plus/6S/6SPlus
I purchased these cables to replace one of my iPhone chargers that was falling apart (see video) and WOW, I’m extremely happy with them! For a set of two 10 foot charging cables at less than fifteen dollars, I feel like this is a bargain, especially because the quality is definitely not compromised. In fact, these charging cables are stronger, thicker, and more durable than the charging cables that actually came with my phone. (I took a photo of this red set next to the standard white iPhone charging cable so that you could easily compare). Do be aware that these are cables only, and that they do not come with the brick/outlet piece. I have plenty of those though, so this was no problem for me. I’m extremely pleased and have more cable length than I could need. If you’re in the market for new charging cables, I think these are GREAT, I love the color (something different than the standard white), and I would confidently recommend these to others. Hope that helps!
US Army Men and SWAT Team Toy Soldiers Action Figures Playset with Military Weapons Accessories for Kids Boys Girls,12Pcs
US Army Men and SWAT Team Toy Soldiers Action Figures Playset with Military Weapons Accessories for Kids Boys Girls,12Pcs
Great action men but the accessories really don’t fit in their hands right!

These are semi moveable arms move, legs move, heads kind of move, but nothing at the elbows or knees.

The detail is pretty good! Nice size and well made. However the guns don’t really fit well in the hands... I see these getting lost really easily. I had to set them up for my youngest and even I was getting frustrated trying to pair them up. In the end I forced a few to fit!

What’s with the stop sign? Is one of these a crossing guard? Or the ax? I don’t think any of these are fire fighters?

Once you get the guns in their hands (good luck) some of them don’t want to stand. You have to lean them back greatly and then they look slightly spastic. Not all of them... just a couple.

Overall I know my son will enjoy them I'm just not going to enjoy keeping up with the accessories as I know they are going to fall out of the hands in seconds.
