Contrabando: Confessions of a Drug-Smuggling Texas Cowboy
Contrabando: Confessions of a Drug-Smuggling Texas Cowboy
Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down and I did not until I finished it. Knowing the background of the hard-working people he came from and growing up in that same era and areas, it was like peering in a window and watching another world that I had only heard about whispered with girlfriends. I am grateful for the glimpse from Mr. Ford, as I know how painful the retelling must be for all, and hopefully cathartic as well. I could not imagine living in that drug culture or being a part of that desperation, growing up a wide-eyed and naive small-town girl at that time. I only knew the rumors of those that did, somewhat in awe at their audacity, like local versions of a forbidden rock star in some ways. What a tough character he was and a parents nightmare! The high stress of living such a life would seem to exact a heavy toll and the authors words conveyed a dilemma of ethics in a world where little seemed to exist. Yet I found myself oddly cheering him on and wanting him to succeed and be redeemed in the end, not admiring the lifestyle but appreciating the experience without having to live it. I felt for his family and children and all they must have endured. I was sad when the book ended as I felt there should be a neat and happy ending somehow, and hope it is as best it can be. The reader is left with a sense of lessons learned and regrets to overcome from the author (maybe part two?), yet a hope for a better life for he and his family. Good luck to the author and his family and I looking forward to reading some of his other books.
The Basement Tapes
The Basement Tapes
In light of the fact that The Basement Tapes Complete  is due out soon, we might ask what the point of this release will be in the future.

As noted at length in some of the better reviews on this page and in various other sources, this album was an attempt to clean up and present material from already widely-bootlegged sessions in a "professional" manner. To that end, some tracks were "sweetened" and others were re-recorded. A few of the Band's tracks seem, in retrospect, to have no connection with the Basement Tapes at all ("Bessie Smith" for example) whereas others ("Ain't No More Cane" and "Don't Ya Tell Henry") are re-recordings of tracks that were at least played at the time.

The material from these sessions is essential for Dylan fans - some of his best songwriting and singing. Unfortunately, this original presentation of the material to the public unaccountably leaves out some of the better songs ("I Shall Be Released") along with some of the more compelling (if idiosyncratic) performances ("I'm Not There (1956)") making the newer Bootleg Series sets preferable in terms of the Dylan content.

By and large, the "sweetening" on this original release is, at this point, little more than a curiosity. I don't think the overdubs actually enhance the music significantly and they're overdubbed on less-than-optimal transfers of the original sources. Though perhaps some might prefer them.

On the other hand, the re-recordings and the Band-only tracks are really quite good for the most part. "Cane", "Henry", "Katie", "Reuben" and "Bessie" are all great - and until/unless they all end up on a Band album somewhere (I believe there are versions of one or two included as extras on the Ban's first two albums, but not all of the tracks), this is where you'll find them.

My view is that this album still makes a valuable supplement to the Complete Basement Tapes (or the smaller 2-disc set The Basement Tapes Raw) and to the first Band albums, but that the release of the newer sets downgrades this from "essential" to "nice to have" - but one should consider The Basement Tapes Raw  to be essential for all serious Dylan fans.
Subterranean Homesick Blues: A Tribute To Bob Dylan's 'Bringi
Subterranean Homesick Blues: A Tribute To Bob Dylan's 'Bringi
Subterranean Homesick Blues is an astounding record. After having listened to the decent "Infidels" it is very nice to listen to Dylan at his best. Subterranean Homesick Blues (the title is just a tad long?) is a brilliant record. It even has a short poem/story written by Dylan himself. I can not say that I totally understand what he is writing about. The book-let itself is a sorry story. Poorly shot photos that look like they have been done by friends. No lyrics in the book-let and general feeling that it was done with less then a professional touch. Which is a shame since the music is grand. Songs such as Subterranean Homesick Blues, On the Road Again makes this truly a classic!

Little Trees Car Air Freshener | Hanging Tree Provides Long Lasting Scent for Auto or Home | Piña Colada, 6-Packs (4 Count)
What started as a positive, fulfilling relationship turned into a grown man living alone; what was a camping van soon turned into a commuter/domicile/nervous breakdown mobile. Living alone is pretty tough, especially when all you have are the smells of your own funk, the road, and yesterday's take-away to fill the void. I tried many things to cover the stench of my solitude, to include candles, spray products, cleaners, and those gel cups. What I guess I figured out is that no product will cover my own disappointment.

But then on a stop for a shower at a Midwest truck scale, I saw this scent of Little Trees. Reminds me of those happier days. Far before the divorce, and even further from the legal issues. It was the smell of childhood: freedom, innocence, genuine sugary happiness. The sheer excitement I would get running towards oddly-colored carbs. The genuine relationship with my father as I was held in loving embrace, even with the dusty shards of candy draping on his shoulders through the cacophony.

I can relive those moments with the large pack (24) of these Little Trees. Like most things in live they are temporal. But if temporary happiness at such a low cost brings back good memories, why not try it out. I can hang a few of these in my close quarters and at least remember a time when things were simpler. When tears and sadness were resolved so easily.

TUL GL Series Retractable Gel Pens, Mixed Metals, Medium Point, 0.7 mm, Black Barrel, Black Ink, Pack of 4 Pens
Okay so the pens work great. the only reason i’m giving it two stars is because i dropped one of the pens off my desk and it skips every time i use it and it also leaks. the second pen that isn’t working properly splits the ink when you use it. (idk how to explain but i’ll post a picture) i would just thing that these pens would hold up better. update 06/11 another pen not working. with this pen it’s hard to click and when it’s out it gets stuck. i have to press the pen for it to go back in... one pen left let’s see if at least one pen holds up

Ebris Saber Series Ultra Soft Bristle Toothbrush (3 Pack) Over 10,000 Nano Sized Fibers | Perfect for Deep Cleaning, Enamel Protection, and Sensitive Gums
Day one: gums bleed a little.
Day two: hardly broke a little bleed on gums.
Day three: gums appears to be more resilient and less inflamed.
Day four: enjoying brushing teeth more usually than normally.
Day five: teeth are more whiter, gums feel more firm and pink than before
Two weeks later: comfortably enjoying my tooth brush brushing three times than twice a day. Noticed little nooks and crannies need no flossing necessary. Teeth look more pure & shine than ever before. Toothbrush feels still as new as if I opened the package, and still soft bristles.

Overall, this is by far the best nano brush I've ever experienced. The bleeding gums issue I once had have left my dentist both baffled and amazed. These brushes will indeed be on my favorites ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
Thanos: Infinity Abyss (New Printing)
Thanos: Infinity Abyss (New Printing)
I'm a big Jim Starlin fan from way back, and somehow I missed this gem when it was first released. I recently found it was being re-released so I ordered a copy month ago before it came out. It's from 2002. It was just the way I like my comics, cosmic. What an awesome story. More Adam Warlock (Though I really do not like the look Starlin used for him this time around, I prefer his earlier incarnations. He looks too much like Doc Savage now.) More Thanos and more Captain Marvel (Son of the REAL Universal Protector and another one Marvel killed too early.) To me this is the best kind of comics story. Vast cosmic action, a universe threatening event and only a handful of heroes able to stand against it all. Starlin did his usual great job here. His artwork is still the best ever. This was a great cosmic adventure!
Wolverine (2020-) #6
Wolverine (2020-) #6
Moving on from events in X of Swords: Creation (2020) (#1) and X-Factor (2020) (#4), the mutants of Krakoa are still reeling from the shock of what went down in the British Otherworld. A contest has been laid out and the players must now assemble. Given what has been learned though this contest may very well prove a death sentence to some, even with the resurrection protocols mutants are now capable of. I really enjoyed this crossover's opening salvo and Benjamin Percy keeps that momentum going. Though I didn't keep reading the series the first issue of Percy's Wolverine really impressed me. His handling of the character is the best I've seen in a couple years. This issue is rather straightforward as Logan seeks the Muramasa Blade spoken of in the prophecy. It seems the acquiring of the blades will take up the first half of the event. Not that that can't be interesting as Logan's search is given a significant thematic weight. It also slipped my attention that the Champions of Arakko would need to get their players ready as well so good on Percy to remind readers. Viktor Bogdanovic on art does great building up the tense environment of the story. This issue is mostly setup really but following up with X-Force (2019) (#13) we'll likely see more.

Marvel Avengers Titan Hero Series Thor 12-Inch Figure
Marvel Avengers Titan Hero Series Thor 12-Inch Figure
These are made very cheap, hard plastic, the joints don't move much and they are lightweight. It just feels cheap...because it is cheap, 10 bucks! You can't beat that, I gave this to my nephew for his 4th birthday and he didn't care how cheap it felt. He saw how big it was and lost his mind, a 12" action figure to a little kid is the cream of the crop. He was playing with the figures I gave him more than any of the more expensive super detailed figures he received from other people. Win.
No Way Out
No Way Out
It's a good thriller almost ruined by several big annoyances but somehow it maintains the pulse and even achieves to create some good crescendo. I loved the part which seems to be the most hated: the end.
My annoyances, in no special order:
- Terrible 80's Vangelis music, really painful going through all the movie with that constant presence.
- Sean Young: is not specially good acting, not specially beautiful, not specially sexy ... not specially anything.
- Kevin Costner is just OK acting and not specially attractive either (in this movie); special mention to the terrible shorts he wears when sailing on the boat; combined with that pink polo shirt and the white socks ... ugh!.
- The romance part has the same chemistry and sexual tension than having lunch in Mc Donalds.
Spoiler:
- The nice good friend is killed as expected; I'm not specially sorry by the killing but really annoyed by the cliche.
- My biggest disappointment: The magnificent Gene Hackman is not the cool evil mastermind moving all the pieces in the shadow; it's kind of weak and almost pathetic. This is somehow compensated by the good work of Will Patton, but it's not the same, losing the evilness of Hackman is hard.

And somehow the movie is not that bad, the action scenes are well done, with the right amount of tension and the plot, being completely predictable (other than the final twist) is enjoyable. My rating would be 3.5 stars, but as I cannot give half star and feeling generous today, let's make it 4.
Bioworld Black Panther Suit Up Snapback
Bioworld Black Panther Suit Up Snapback
The hat is beautifully designed. He detailing is everything and I love the simple design of the emblem. It’s really T’Challa’s amazing suit design in the form of a hat. I have nothing bad to say about it. I will say that if you have a larger sized head like almost an 8 than this hat may be a little small. It’s a snackback. A friend tried my hat on and could only do one snap. However most people can fit this hat. I bought it as a gift to my best friend and then I bought one for myself. Great gift to someone who loves fitted hats/snapbacks and black panther.
Chef Pomodoro Aluminum Metal Pizza Peel with Foldable Wood Handle for Easy Storage 12-Inch x 14-Inch, Gourmet Luxury Pizza Paddle for Baking Homemade Pizza Bread
Chef Pomodoro Aluminum Metal Pizza Peel with Foldable Wood Handle for Easy Storage 12-Inch x 14-Inch, Gourmet Luxury Pizza Paddle for Baking Homemade Pizza Bread
This is a large, flat sheet of metal with a handle. If you need to manipulate a pizza, it's just as good a tool for that as any other large, flat sheet of metal with a handle.

However, the "folding" aspect of this product is absolutely terrible. The process for folding it as as follows:

1. Turn the large, clumsy thumbscrew while being quietly annoyed that it's so large that there isn't enough clearance between peel and the screw to have your fingers on it while turning it, so you need to turn it 1/4 turn at a time.

2. Realize that turning the large, clumsy thumbscrew isn't actually doing anything, because the bolt that it's threaded onto is also turning. You can thank Frank down in product design for that one. He saved them $0.002 per unit sold by eliminating a carriage bolt from the specification. Good job, Frank. Quality work.

3. Wedge your thumb onto the bolt head to keep it from turning while manipulating the large, clumsy thumb screw 1/4 turn at a time until the bolt loosens enough to allow the rabbet in the handle to clear the metal of the peel. Almost... almost... almost... Oops! You turned it 1/8 of a turn too far, and the bolt ran out of thread, and the the whole thing just came apart and crashed to the floor.

4. Pick the pieces up and reassemble them with the handle folded back over the peel. Manipulate the large, clumsy thumbscrew while wondering if an actual Earth human ever tried to use this thing. Perhaps it's intended for telekinetic users, but that's not mentioned anywhere in the documentation.

5. Put the folded peel into the cupboard. Well, to be fair, they do say "easy storage", and that was pretty easy. The ease was more of a function of my cabinet hardware than anything inherent in the peel, though, so I'm not sure that they can take credit for that.

In short, while the Chef Pomodoro Aluminum Metal Pizza Peel is not complete garbage, it's certainly suboptimal. It's not bad enough to return, but I'll be a little annoyed every time I use it, for the rest of my natural life.

I'd like to thank Chef Pomodoro for helpfully sending me an unsolicited, needy, attention-seeking email asking for me to validate their corporate insecurities with a review. Had I not received that message, I probably would not have bothered to write this review. Good job, guys!

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Frozen II Shapes Dinner, 5.5 oz Box
My 2 and 4 year old Elsa and macaroni loving children DID NOT like this mac and cheese. It was hard and less flavorful than usual. My 15 year old took one for the team and ate it so it wasn't wasted but made sure I knew not to buy it again.
The Hobbit & The Lord Of The Rings Boxed Set
The Hobbit & The Lord Of The Rings Boxed Set
I love the books, but I am so sick of Amazon. Every time - and I mean e v e r y t i m e - I order something (books, box sets, dvds) the item has been ruined during shipping when it arrives (or least I assume it’s during shipping considering how poor the wrapping is; otherwise they’re just shipping off items that are already destroyed - you truly never know with this beeping company). Last time I bought something off Amazon, the book arrived with a ruined spine so that it now looks like crap on my self, and that’s when I swore I wouldn’t purchase anything ever again from Amazon. Boy, should I learn to follow my own principles. The image shows just ONE of the EIGHT corners that are ripped and dodged. I hope that the people reading this will buy their lovely books elsewhere. These babies sure weren’t inexpensive!

Btw, I won’t bother with sending the box set back, because the new one will be ruined, too. I’ve tried that before. I should like a compensation, though, but that probably won’t happen.

NEOVIVID Thoreau's Go Confidently Quote Engraved Compass with Stamped Leather case, Camping Compass, Boating Compass, Gift Compass, Graduation Day Gifts
Great craftsmanship. I was very impressed by this compass and its quality build. It has a nice weight to it and is made of a dense material that feels high quality. The compass itself functions well.

As a gift, it is a very impressive piece. The quote was a huge hit with the recipient and it will be a great keepsake for years to come. I however was not a big fan of the leather pouch and chose not to include it with the compass when gifted. The pouch itself is a nice leather, but I do not like the brand name embossed into the leather as I think it takes away from the clean, high quality of the entire package.

I highly recommend!

Chesapeake Blue (Chesapeake Bay Book 4)
Chesapeake Blue (Chesapeake Bay Book 4)
This is the 4th in the quartet about the Quinn family. Seth the cocky arrogant and abused little boy who was desperately frightened at the beginning of the series has now become a successful artist. Is he a credit to the three older Quinns? Are they proud of him? This story tells of his attempts to deal with his abusive and manipulative mother and his attempts to protect his new family from her. It is sad at times but also very rich in family detail. The saying in the series "if you mess with one Quinn you mess with them all" is shown clearly. I would also say "if you read about one Quinn you need to read about them all" I loved this quartette and am only sorry to say goodbye to the Quinns. Well worth reading all 4. I would advise to begin with Sea Swept and read in order to get full benefit of the lovely story

Dragon Ball Color Cell nº 05/06 (Manga Shonen) (Spanish Edition)

The Berenstain Bears Go To Camp (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (Berenstain Bears First Time Chapter Books)
I used to read these to my friend's little girl. When my twin's were due, that same little girl (by then a teenager) sent me a collection of books. My children loved them all and we read at least two Berenstain Bears stories each and every night. Well now my friend's little girl is all grown up, married and expecting her own baby... what better baby gift than a collection of Berenstain Bears books? They are a very likable family of bears and each book has a little theme and wholesome message. They are great for 2-4 year olds. Amazon let me ship the box directly to their door for FREE! Thanks Amazon!
The MAN [ 6th printing, 1977 ] (the President of the United States- impeached and facing trial. The most shocking novel of our time)
The MAN [ 6th printing, 1977 ] (the President of the United States- impeached and facing trial. The most shocking novel of our time)
I read this book many years a go and thought -"well obviously Douglas Dilman's presidency is a fluke- there is NO way that America would vote a black man into the Presidency by popular acclaim- at least for the foreseeable future" ( This obviously long before Barack Obama arrived on the scen- nearly fifty years after this book was published - unlike Dilman, Obama has a popualr mandate). In addition to taking power (like Andrew Johnson, Theodore Roosevelt. Harry S.Truman and Lyndon Johnson- all of whom were at least white) after the death of the incumbent president, Dilman is faced with a viciously partisan(and in at least some cases avowedly racist) Congress, international crises and problems in personal life( a black woman who he loves- he is a widower by the way- but dare not marry simply because she is fair skinned to his comparative darkness), a troublesome son failing at school and a dughter "passing" for white, all of these come toa terrifying head when he is impeached and put on trial by the Senate( this obviously before Bill Clinton had the same experience in the wake of the Monica Lewinski scandal- but Clinton is at least white)
Colston 33
Colston 33
This book is an interesting and thought provoking read, particularly for those interested in the history of Bristol and elements of its shady past. The author knits together themes of Freemasonry, the Knights Templar, the slave trade and what might be described as 'architectural esoterica' into a story of a builder, Sam discovering things about the city and his own past. Mr Wheldon has obviously researched his subject extensively and writes with some authority on these subjects and this book will appeal to those interested in them as well as anyone wanting a good story. Fans of Dan Brown and similar writers will enjoy this.
And All Because

Book in very nice condition. I didn’t mind it looking aged At all as I first read it 40 years ago at least so was in keeping with it being on my bookshelf since then. Lovely
The SPECTRE Trilogy: Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice (James Bond - Extended)
The SPECTRE Trilogy: Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice (James Bond - Extended)
As my Kindle library replaces my hard-copies (when all books can be "large type" books, I know where my tired old eyes will be!) this was a tremendous addition. From SPECTRE's introduction (Special Executive for Counterintelligence, Revenge and Extortion - and I didn't need to look it up... Anyone recall what UNCLE stood for?) in Thunderball, easily one of Fleming's best novels, through the attack on Piz Gloria and the death of Tracy (sorry...) to the final battle in which the Blofelds lose their lives but Bond his mind, reading these three at a single go is the best immersion into Bond Land one can desire. Let's face it, Man With the Golden Gun, Spy Who Loved Me, even Moonraker is showing creaky age. And Live and Let Die, in the unexpurgated, has almost come back around the other side as an example of 'incidental and institutional racism" but as a thriller, it doesn't hold a candle to these masterworks.
Rumi Poems
Rumi Poems
Some years ago I read some inspiring spiritual writings by Rumi, and felt that this was the closest Islam and CVhristianity came to each other. So I was deeply disappointed when I found that these were mostly love poems in a stilted translation, mostly 'blank verse' which was n o more than inferior prose chopped into short lines with no punctuation or capital letters.
If only I could find the book I read before.
PopSockets: Collapsible Grip & Stand for Phones and Tablets - Harry Potter Gryffindor
PopSockets: Collapsible Grip & Stand for Phones and Tablets - Harry Potter Gryffindor
I got this for $5 earlier this year, but I wouldn't have paid $15 for it. It stuck to my phone case really well . . . too well. 6 months later I tried to remove it and I swear the popsocket was super glued to the case! Multiple nails were broken in the process, and floss had nothing on the adhesive. I gave it up as a lost cause. It gets hot here, but I spent the majority of those 6 months indoors, so maybe there's a time limit on how long you have to reposition it.

Side note: I like the convenience of having an extra hand hold, but I thought the ridges were uncomfortable on my fingers.
Miracle Workers Season 1
Miracle Workers Season 1
One of my favorite shows. I happily pressed any buttons to watch with my Roku device. Since I have a subscription to TBS via satellite service I was under the impression that I was just gaining access to this first season free. Having really enjoyed season 2, I was delighted at idea of watching season 1. I I was hoping to learn more of the backstory so I wouldn't miss getting any of the jokes connected previous episodes. Right away I realized that though having the same cast, Miracle Workers season 1 is a distinct show from the following season "Dark Ages" It has most of the same cast, but they play different roles in a hilarious era of an outrageously goofy possible reality. Even tough I didn't expect and was upset to pay for it, my bitterness is healing thanks to the medicinal laughter provided by this show.
HARRY POTTER Collectible Card Game: Quidditch Cup Booster Box
HARRY POTTER Collectible Card Game: Quidditch Cup Booster Box
My girlfriend and I had a nice time together opening the 36 booster packs, which ultimately contained at least one copy of every card in the Quidditch Cup set. Harry Potter may be a dead TCG, as of the Chamber of Secrets expansion, but it can still be good fun, not to mention its holofoil variations of notable witch and wizard cards, which stand out as particularly gorgeous (just compare to "holographic" Pokémon cards or "premium" Magic: The Gathering cards...they're night and day, even considering Pokémon has some nice-looking "shinies"...also note that this beauty doesn't come through in the slightest in still photos).

For the price, you can get your nostalgia fix (or have some magical fun with a relic of a trading card game) and potentially your completionist fix to boot, as it is entirely possible to get the complete Quidditch Cup set within a single box. Considering there were only 80 unique cards (not differentiating between normal and foil or holofoil variants of the same card) in this set, and a total of 396 cards (of varying rarity) in this box, it's statistically likely! I think. Mathematicians, correct me.

Blue Metallic Chrome Latex Balloons, 50pcs 12 Inch Silver Metallic Balloons Green Shiny Party Balloons for Bridal Shower Wedding Birthday Party Decoration
I’ve always decorated the house prior to my kids’s birthdays so when they wake up it’s a visual celebration of them.
I ordered these balloons in advance and they just kept popping, im blowing them up small- they pop, I haven’t even tied them- they pop.
TERRIBLE!
I just had to stop as one out of every three would actually hold air and not pop.
Woke the baby up.
Super shady to have “good quality balloons” when they pop out of nowhere.
Save your money and buy from someone else. Something else.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (Telugu)
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (Telugu)
Movie is not bad, it has excellent acting by Chiranjeevi (who is unbelievably agile for 64 year old), good dialogue, top notch photography and spectacular action scenes but was let down by a weak script. However, as the disclaimer at the start of the movie says, it has no historical accuracy. Further, the director took too many liberties in the story line making Narasimha Reddy a larger than life superman rather than a real character. While fast pace is needed, some scenes are so short in this 3 hour movie (like the court trial at the end) that they leave no impact. The movie does very little justice to the ensemble cast of national stars. Still you can watch it - it is better than several commercial potboilers that we get to see every week.
The Life-Saving Skill of Story: The Life-Saving Skill of Story (Resilience)
The Life-Saving Skill of Story: The Life-Saving Skill of Story (Resilience)
Everywhere I look since the start of this pandemic, I encounter people struggling to redefine themselves, their lives, their work, their friendships and other relationships, and the world we all now find ourselves living in. We all feel compelled to understand the story we’re living through and to construct a story of our future with hope and conviction. This is a daunting task and few of us feel equipped to make sense of this onslaught of changes with a positive sense of direction and a set of tools that will allow us to tease the story out and use it as the base of a powerful story of our future. Auerbach’s book serves as both a repository of stories born of hope and a handbook for understanding the role of story in our lives and how to become attuned to and practitioners of story. Through interviews with a wide variety of practitioners and a dry wit, Auerbach highlights these stories and binds them to the reader through creative how-to suggestions and instructions. Especially for those who haven’t ever seen themselves as storytellers, she helps us understand that we all share that power and through concentrated effort, can use the power of story to change the world for the better. I began this book not knowing how story might relate to our present and ended knowing that story is a crucial skill that we all need to survive now and into the future.

Sattiyrch Buffalo Plaid Christmas Tree Skirt with Pom Trim,Red Black Buffalo Check Christmas Tree Skirt for Holiday Christmas Decorations (48in)
My entire house (bathroom, bedroom, front door, blankets, wall decor, etc.) is black and white buffalo check. I purchased this and a set of stockings to match my house and I love them! They are the added Christmas detail that matches my house and makes it extra cute!

I have a medium (I think 8 feet tall) white pre-lit Christmas tree and it fits perfectly underneath, with no excess around the edges, but it is perfect for what I wanted! The only other thing to note is that the center hole is much larger than I needed for my small frame but it does not affect the functionality at all.
The Two Horizons: New Testament Hermeneutics and Philosophical Description
The Two Horizons: New Testament Hermeneutics and Philosophical Description
This is arguably one of the most important works on hermeneutics in the last 50 years. Though published in the 80's it still has relevance for today.

It is especially valuable for evangelicals, many of whom still approach the Bible as if it fell out of the sky with no historical context and entirely unaware of their own context. A naive positivism continues to plague the evangelical and fundamentalist world - particularly in the American Bible Belt region. This is unfortunate as it is both a deeply flawed set of assumptions it also leads to many problematic views - especially related to the perspicuity of Scripture (see Christian Smith's The Bible Made Impossible).

Thistelton essentially unveils the reality of the two-fold problem of biblical hermeneutics: 1) recognizing that every ancient text has a historical context that needs to be unearthed in order to begin to understand that text (though there is still much debate about grammatical-historical analysis - it is now undeniable that every biblical book and text is rooted in historical-cultural contexts that are foundational to meaning; 2) the second problem relates to our own cultural-historical situated-ness. One's own historical conditioned-ness is one of the aspects within the postmodern world in which a deeper awakening has taken place. This situated-ness and cultural influence actually impacts how one not only reads texts (sometimes leading to problematic understandings) it also impacts one's investigations into the historical-cultural context (#1).

For some this creates an impossibility of knowing. But, Thiselton effectively argues (in line with N.T. Wright's arguments against historical nihilism - see NTPOG, 1992) that what this does is simply create a greater and deeper humility toward the Scripture. But, that by 'circling' back and forth from one "horizon" (my own context) to the another (the ancient context of the text) one can gradually increase one's understanding and re-evaluate one's own cultural influences. But, really this is not so much a 'circle' - which implies no transformation or change in understanding - but rather a 'spiral' (cf. Grant Osborne's work on the Hermeneutical Spiral).

Thistelton works through all this by analyzing four different major philosopher's of understanding - Heideggar, Wittgenstein, Gadamar and Bultmann (who is more theological and less purely philosophical than the other three though he's historically hugely influential in NT hermeneutics). This analysis creates a number of challenges for the reader unfamiliar with these four as AT makes several assumptions about one's understanding of these. At times the writing is too weighted to technical philosophical language which makes this a book that is ultimately inaccessible to the average reader - not intellectually inaccessible but just too cumbersome at times. That's the detriment of the book. New Horizons is a bit more accessible but Thistelton is writing for a more narrow audience here.

In spite of some drawbacks (and AT has more to say in New Horizons and others have picked up other features related to this hermeneutical problem), it nevertheless receives 5 stars because it is such an important work in contributing to a better understanding of the deeply humbling challenge of reading Scripture - and the particular problems that attend to a Positivist school of reading.

I sprayed this liberally on my pillow last night before bed and by the time I had brushed my teeth and removed my makeup the smell had gone. Tried spraying even more tonight, the smell lasted slightly longer but my pillow was quite wet and now it has dried the smell has gone. Ordering a slightly more expensive one to see if any better.

We've only had this for a few days, but I can already say that this is exactly what I was hoping it would be thus far. I have talked to several folks that have one (different brands), and they swore by them, but I only pulled the trigger now that I am working out a bit more. Verdict: pretty great tool and a bit better than expected.

I comes with an array of head attachments for any number of treatment areas on the body. I have only used two (deep muscle and lower back) but the results after having someone use this on my back in back to back nights is awesome. Woke up just a bit sore but not nearly as stiff, and slept much better than normal (or at least more relaxed).

The device itself feels well made. It is not as light as I thought it would be, but it seems that you actually need a bit up weight to make it easier to press down into the muscle. My wife could use it with just one hand, so it isn't difficult to use. It takes a bit of getting used to (at least for the lower back attachment) but not very long.

Case that it comes in is nice and seems well made, though I haven't taken it anywhere yet.

Cannot speak to how long it lasts but will update this post if anything negative does happen to it in the short term. Nothing wrong yet though.

Haven't had to engage with customer service yet either, but the company did follow up with an unsolicited email just checking to see if everything was satisfactory and encouraging me to tell them if it wasnt. Don't see that often, so seems like they are proactive about issues, which is good.

Overall, very pleased with the substance of this device particularly since it wasnt as expensive as some of the other options.

Verizon Fios Gateway AC1750 Wi-Fi (G1100) (Renewed)
This "Amazon Renewed" Verizon FiOS G1100 router was allegedly "refurbed" by a firm called Gadget Planet. That's who you are really buying from.

The router was certainly cleaned, but it was absolutely not refurbed -- not by any definition that I would apply. These photos show what I saw when I opened the box: a BARE WIRE where the power adapter plug should have been.

C'mon. Seriously? This is your quality control?

Hey Gadget Planet, I know you want me to call your 800 number rather then just write a bad review or request a refund, but I ordered this item through Amazon Prime. That means I want a fully functioning working item delivered quickly. Other buyers relying on quick Prime delivery of a working item should know that they are rolling the dice. I should have looked at Gadget Planet's seller profile, where you can see that they respond and try to resolve any complaints, but there are a LOT of complaints, and they seem fond of placing blame on Amazon. One star.

HOKEKI Air Purifier for Large Room with Air Quality Auto Sensor, True HEPA Air Cleaner Filter, 5-in-1 Odor Eliminator with Night Light for Home Office (White)
I am a little asthmatic, slightly allergic to pet dander, very reactive to dust and mold so of course, I live in the middle of a swamp, in a house built in the 50s with two dogs. Breathing while I am sleeping it a coin toss on most nights. If I take an antihistamine, I may never sleep. I have used many air purifiers over the years to varying levels of success. Here is my opinion of this unit based on what I have come to think of as important.

It is quiet and can be rendered quieter and still be effective. My partner is sensitive to noise while sleeping. We found that running it in a closed bedroom for 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime got the room to a place where you could adjust the unit to nearly silent and still keep clean air.

It works, boy howdy does it work. The test for this is usually to sit in the room and breath deeply while paying attention to my lungs. I did the old lung test and they reported all signs to the positive. The unit itself also displays a air quality measurement and it seems legit.

It is not an eyesore. This doesn't seem important until a few months in and you have to see it every day, many times a day. Perhaps your wife throws blankets and clothes over it in silent protest. Perhaps she also slides it behind things so as to not have to look at it drastically reducing the airflow. Does my spouse do these things because it offends her sense of aesthetic? No, because this unit is well designed. Has she done these things in the past nearly asphyxiating her loving husband for style? Let us leave it at a diplomatic, "It is better to err on the side of stylish and breathing."

Are you replacing filters every week? No, there are significant steps up to the main filter so it stays clean longer. You can even clean that filter a few times before replacing it. This is a good value.

I am happy with the quality, function, noise level, and design of this unit. I would buy it again.

Thanks so much for this air purifier. I just moved to a new apartment. And in this apartment, I don't know why there is a Musty smell in my room, which is not horrible while I am so sensitive about this kind of smell. Thus, I tried to search online.
I browsed and purchased it.
Good point:
Quiet. I put it in my living room. Just behind my bedside table. I hardly hear a noise at midnight, which is the same as they described "quietly operates for sleep."
Effectively. In the product page, I saw this product could trap allergens, such as dust mites, pollen and mold. As I have mentioned before, I can't stand the musty smell in my living room. I used it, and I got fresh air and breathed the clean air in one hour.
Fan speeds. I can choose three fan speeds with low, mid and high. However, I appreciate their auto mode, which based on the air quality in my room automatically to adjust the fan speed. It looks so intelligent.
Other what I suggested: Can I get a more round air purifier, I prefer the round shape, and that will look more stylish.
Recommend it and worth to buy.

I buy these for my teen's school lunches and snacks, but we all like them and our small household managed to eat the whole box in just 5 days because they are so tasty and a good substitute for a fatty, high calorie dessert. My son has been eating these for years, and we've tried the variety packs too. All flavors are good, but the strawberry is our favorite. It's really flavorful, tart and sweet enough (15 grams of sugar) to satisfy a sweet tooth. The texture is soft and easy to chew. The ingredients are organic and all natural, but the funny thing is there's no strawberry listed in the strawberry rope ingredients. Instead, these are made of apple purée and apple juice concentrate with pectin, vegetable juice for color, malic acid and "organic natural flavors" (not in that order). These ropes have added vitamin C (20% rda) and iron (6% rda) and are a gluten free food.

I'm never crazy about the generic term "natural flavors" as it can mean anything from fruit to liver, and companies always tell me it's a secret proprietary ingredient (though I haven't check with Clif). These ropes do taste like strawberry, so I'm hoping the natural flavors at least include some strawberry derivative, but my taste buds may be playing a trick on me. I trust Clif enough where I'll assume the natural flavors are not something disgusting, but I wish Clif and other companies would disclose the sources of natural flavors. Those with allergies or a special diet may want to inquire to make sure the "natural flavors" don't violate dietary restrictions. The "strawberry" Clif ropes are a delicious, sweet snack conveniently wrapped for school lunches or on the go, and it's a product I buy regularly. I'm rating them 4.5 stars (rounded to 5) as I recommend them but I'm taking off 1/2 star for the undisclosed "natural flavors."

My 3.5 year old is obsessed with Peppa pig and she loves these!! We bought her the lights and sounds house for Christmas, along with the original Peppa family. She received the tin purse as a gift that she keeps all her animals in. Purchased these to add to her collection, she loves them and they’re good quality. Some of the Black has rubbed off on their shoes on the set she’s owned for 6 months now, but not bad for toys that get played with literally every day, several times a day. My only complaint is, for the $, I wish there was a set of characters that came without Peppa. We have 4 Peppa between all of her sets.
