Warren Buffett Wealth: Principles and Practical Methods Used by the World's Greatest Investor
Warren Buffett Wealth: Principles and Practical Methods Used by the World's Greatest Investor
Design of book:

Chapters headings and sections headings are structured to be captivating and clear, making it easy to convey the purposes and meanings of the principles.

Content:

The initial chapters of the book build on some of Buffett's stories and are intended to persuade the reader into following Buffett's principles of investing. You will unfold more of Buffett ways as you read, but most of the essential tips are already mentioned in the first half of the book. The later chapters merely serve as unnecessary elaborations. Principles and examples are also recycled at the later chapters giving readers a feeling that they were reading the book again, before they finished reading.

Buffett debunks the Efficient Market Theory (EMT) by emphasizing on knowing the stocks you buy, buying at a discount and his track records. He also believes that knowledge of basic finances and accounting (GAAP) are necessary to value businesses. However, it will be hard to replicate his success given the difficulties of finding under-valued firms and attaining his wealth of experiences in interpreting annual reports.

For who:

More for first-time readers of Buffett's principles and books, though the author suggests that readers of other Buffett books would find it beneficial as well. Like most books, its persuasive content might not be relevant for readers who are already believers of his principles.

This is also not a `get-rich at once' book. Further readings like The Intelligent Investor and Security Analysis (both written by Benjamin Graham) are necessary for savvy investing. Discipline, morals and experiences are also vital when following his principles.

Readers should also have the mature mindset to determine the usefulness of some principles, which might be out-dated in today's context. In fact, the reason behind the popularity of Buffett and his principles are due to his simple and conservative approach towards investing, something which simple people are attracted to at the start.
Merchants of Truth: The Business of News and the Fight for Facts
Merchants of Truth: The Business of News and the Fight for Facts
What a breath of fresh air this book is.

In an age increasingly characterized by narrow-minded fanatics, here’s someone capable of writing good things and bad things about the same people and organizations.

At a time when more and more writing is either totally in favour of its subject or totally against it, Jill Abramson has provided fair and balanced coverage of four news organizations—the York Times, the Washington Post, Buzzfeed and Vice.

This is really four books in one. The reporting is so thorough that each story could stand on its own as a separate volume.
Abramson has done a tonne of interviews—more than 100 at Vice alone—and the result is a detailed look inside each organization with a steady stream of great anecdotes.

Mostly, it’s a great read. The only exception is the description of the technologies Buzzfeed uses to manipulate readers. This is pretty tedious going—it’s about dull people doing dull things, after all—but it’s an important part of the story.
In this 534-page book there are a few sentences that weren’t directly attributed to their sources, but given that the book has 70 pages of source notes, surely those were honest errors of omission.

When Abramson was executive editor of the Times, a glance at the online headlines each morning was a guaranteed adrenaline rush, the stories were that interesting. I’ve never experienced that before or since—in any publication.

As for the the subject of her book—the future of news—my takeaway is there is no secret to the news media’s survival.

While all four media groups are endangered, the New York Times, according to Abramson, is furthest along the road to survival, thanks largely to four million paid subscribers. Abramson credits a gutsy decision by the then publisher. Although the experts said it would never work, the Times began charging for online subscriptions, and the ensuing financial turnaround is now history.

It's ironic that the new media (Buzzfeed and Vice) have embraced the failed business model of old media—heavy reliance on advertising revenue. (Paper newspapers traditionally got the lion's share of their revenue from advertising; subscription revenue was secondary.)

Meanwhile, the Times, got nearly two-thirds of its 2017 revenue from circulation. Ad revenue is now a secondary stream.
While journalism is more than a business, the key to its financial success is no different than in any other business—give customers a product or service they want or need, at a price they’re able and willing to pay.
The Rule: How I Beat the Odds in the Markets and in Life - and How You Can Too
The Rule: How I Beat the Odds in the Markets and in Life - and How You Can Too
I believe I am the first person to review this book who has actually purchased it. So, this review has no bias but my own and is totally independent.

It is important to state, this book does not provide you with exact rules saying you must buy here, sell here, place a stop here and diversify across these specific markets, and so on. So, please do not think you are buying a set of exact "Rules" in a list format. Fortunately, these tactics are not shared with us as the majority of us would not stick to it or understand its purpose.

It is even more important to know the strategies Mr. Hite uses and continues to use are shared with us. Following the trend, cutting losses, diversify to reduce risk and catch trends are shared with examples. This gives us the ability to design a system which we will stick to and can be profitable. As long as we use the mentioned fundamental "Rules". My own backtesting as shown this to be true.

There is plenty of information provided in this book which personally gives me more ideas to test and improve my own systems. It also provides ideas which I never even considered. "Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience".

The book tells us how Mr. Hite applied trend following strategies not just in the market but in life. Can you really be a trend follower in the markets but not in your personal life? Will there be a greater chance of internal conflict which may break your rules if you are not?

The additional advantage of reading this book is that it fills in the gap to Mr. Hites interviews in Market Wizards, also, the information provided by Alex Greyserman in Trend Following with Managed Futures and Mr. Covel series of books such as Trend Following and Trend Commandments, and many other books. This was really helpful to me as I had a lot of questions I felt on Mr. Hite could answer. This book has answered a lot of those questions.

I would rate this book amongst Edwin Lefevre - Reminiscences Of A Stock Operator, Nicolas Darvas - How I Made $2,000,000 In The Stock Market, Michael W. Covel - Trend Following, and Jack D. Schwager - Market Wizards.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone beginning or experienced in trading.

Thank you Mr. Hite. The book was well written and very clear.
Wisdom of the Buddha: The Unabridged Dhammapada
Wisdom of the Buddha: The Unabridged Dhammapada
Actually I give almost all dhamma books 5 stars because it's a good thing to promote with ignorance, greed, and hate being so popular these days.

I have also read many nice things about Max Muller in other reading, about what a nearly enlighten being he was, etc.. so I'm grateful for people like him and am cognizant that this was written when NO good translations of anything Buddhist in English existed so I'm sure it was a really great blessing at the time.

However I don't think it holds up that well compared to more modern translations. The language is awkward and as someone who has spent alot of time reading the Nikayas etc I think the vocabulary used by Max was of the time (pre 1900s) did not convey the complex meanings of the Pali -> English as well as thing translated more recently. I think since there, there has been a great deal of effort to find more descriptive words to convey Buddhist terms that were not available to him, terms that even if they were available at the time have since been nuanced by Buddhists that weren't nuanced then..

Holding this truth, it was a great effort and and only praise for Max for doing the real pioneering translations as NOTHING (including good Pali -> English dictionaries) were not available at the time AND English was not his native language. More modern translations have this advantage are a much easier read and convey the meaning that the Buddha was meaning to convey. I kept asking myself - is this Buddhism I'm reading about? It seemed very foreign even though Buddhism is really the center of my life.

A great read for a historical perspective of Buddhisms entry into the west, but you if it's really the meaning of the Dhammapada you want, you should look to a more recent translation. Still I feel I owe a debt of gratitude to Max.. thanks Max! Without you the next steps may have been delayed by decades or longer.
Ford Dynasty: A Photographic History (MI) (Images of Motoring)
Ford Dynasty: A Photographic History (MI) (Images of Motoring)
Ford Dynasty is another volume in the "Images of Motoring" series. These little photographic histories are 127 pages long, with every page filled with archival black and white photos. This book cannot possibly be an in depth history of a firm as large and complex as the Ford empire but the photos used here are interesting and informative, dealing with everything from the cars to the factories to the people who build the cars to the people who own and run the companies. For its price this is an worthwhile book. I don't think that a Ford expert would learn many new facts from this volume but a number of the photos might be unfamiliar to such a specialist. The generalist car fan will probably enjoy the photos and their informative captions and won't begrudge the very reasonable cost of the book. I enjoyed it along with its companion volumes on Chrysler and General Motors.

Ran
Ran
This is an excellent film, with an impressive scenario and extraordinary visual aspects. Below, more of my impressions with some SPOILERS.

PRECISION: this is the review of double disc special edition DVD from 2006. I found the technical quality of image and sound satisfying - but as I don't own any other versions, I can not compare it with Blu-ray, etc. Therefore this is just a review of the film itself.

In 1957 Kurosawa surprised and impressed the whole world with "Throne of Blood", an extraordinary adaptation of "Macbeth" transposed to feudal Japan. In 1985, for what was to be his last major film, he recidived, this time with "King Lear". But with the progress of technology this time he was able to produce not only a great tragedy but also a great show!

The story is initially quite similar with that of "King Lear". The main character's name is Lord Hidetora, the head of clan Ichimonji. He is played by the great Japanese actor Tatsuya Nakadai. Hidetora was born as first son of a samurai lord who owned a little castle. From the age of 17 he fought many wars and he finally conquered a large domain, controlled by three powerful fortresses. But Hidetora is now aged 70 and he is weary of wars - therefore he decides to abdicate in favor if his oldest son, Taro Takatora Ichimonji.

Taro will therefore become the leader of the clan and master of the First Castle. His younger brothers, Jiro Masatora Ichimonji and Saburo Naotora Ichimonji, will support him as masters respectively of Second and Third castles. Hidetora will keep 30 samurai as his escort and the honorific title of Great Lord - he will reside successively with his sons. Hidetora orders his sons to always remain united against all adversities. Two neigboring daimyos, Nobuhiro Fujimaki and Seiji Ayabe, are witnesses of this arrangement.

But the youngest brother, Saburo, as well as one of main retainers, Tango Hirayama, both object and ask Hidetora to reconsider and stay in power. Enraged by the rude language and defiance of his son, the old leader banishes them both. That covers about 15 first minutes and from there the story really begins...

It is hardly a spoiler to say that the story is a horrible tragedy - after all, it is a piece of Shakespeare transposed in the world of the samurai and directed by Kurosawa... But, unlike some "professional" critics, I absolutely don't consider this film as nihilistic! Withour revealing too much, I think that here the main message is the punishment for sins: the greater is the sin, the most terrifying is the punishment. And as we will quickly learn, old Hidetora and his vassals accumulated quite a lot of deadly sins in the last 50 years...

The heavenly retribution against the Ichimonji clan will come mostly through the iron will and determination of an exceptional woman, Lady Kaede, played impressively by Mieko Harada... Indeed, it could be said in this case, "hell hath no fury as a woman wronged..." Many reviewers considered her character as "evil" and that certainly is one way to see the things - but what I saw was first and before anything else a woman hurt and harmed as cruelly as it is possible, who with patience, intelligence and absolute determination will avenge her loved ones by bringing ruin to all her enemies in such a comprehensive way, that they will not only be destroyed in this world but also damned in the next one! And honestly, once I realised all the evil crimes the Ichimonji clan perpetrated in 50 years, her revenge is also a case of justice served! In this point Kurosawa changed very significantly the whole sense of the story, because in the original Shakespeare piece King Lear is mostly an innocent wronged - well, here it is NOT the case...

Two other impressive characters are Hidetora's fool, played by Japanese actor and dancer Peter and Shuri Kurogane, the most capable of Ichinoji clan retainers - a ruthless, brutal and cunning character, but not devoided of at least some human feelings. On the other hand, Saburo, the third son of Hidetora, who as equivalent of Cordelia character is supposedly "the good guy", well, notwithstanding his devotion to his father, I didn't care much for him, considering that by his sheer stupidity he kept making bad things worse...

Another messages of this film are basically the repetition of some well known truths:

- there is no fool as an old fool
- quem Deus vult perdere, dementat prius
- pride is the greatest and WORST of all deadly sins
- anger is a bad advisor
- most men can think only with what they have between legs - not with what they have inside their skulls...
- when you are on the run, RUN! Even if you are Bruce Willis, DON'T come back to your place for your dad's watch - because Vincent Vega will not stay in this toilet forever...
- when travelling through hostile lands with your soldiers, NEVER forget to send a vanguard, even if it is only one guy; it REALLY helps...

The samurai battles in "Ran" are absolutely impressive, even if you should not expect too much realism about tactics - in many scenes there is a lot people running around absolutely nowhere and doing nothing useful. In fact Kurosawa used samurai armies as impressionists used colors and shapes - taken separately and looked upon closely the picture seems to be chaotic. Seen from a certain distance and as a whole, the effect is much, much more interesting.

Bottom line, this is an excellent film, a masterpiece, providing both a matter for reflection and a feast for eyes. I loved it when I saw it in cinema long time ago and it was a delight to re-discover it again. To buy, watch and keep. Enjoy!
Texting with Aretha Franklin (Texting with History)
Texting with Aretha Franklin (Texting with History)
I liked this concept, title, and book. It's for kids. The author does not "dive deep"; into the morass that is "race relations" in America today, but he covers enough to make sense to contemporary kids without dwelling on it. Depending on maturity and judgment, you could go more into the black history aspect and perhaps even cover some of the complexities of race relations with your kid(s).
I applaud the fact that he tried to stay a-political. He states facts and covers topics from an objective point of view.
He also mixed in some personal details about Aretha Franklin and her amazing career.
I only have two points of constructive criticism for this title: (1) The formatting did not work well on my Kindle (Paperwhite bought in 2016). I'd suggest you take a look at that. I did try to see if the issue was present in the Amazon browser-based Kindle viewer, but I couldn't find the content. To be fair, I didn't spend much time trying since I had already started the book on my device. And (2) I would have ended with a list of some of Aretha Franklin's most well known hits (IDK how I'd choose them or how many to list). But this might offer a chance for a parent and kid(s) to listen to some great music together and marvel at the talent that earned 18 Grammy Awards, sold more than 75 Million records worldwide, and became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in 1987).

Also not mention was her last-minute stand-in for Luciano Pavarotti at the Grammy awards in 1998 when, litterally after the live show began, Luciano Pavarotti had to cancel a performance of the "Nessun Dorma" Aria. Aretha took the stage with a billion live viewers and performed the Aria with the Orchestra in the tenor range, for which they were prepared. It was an Amazing feat!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Pina Colada (Jazz Mix)
Pina Colada (Jazz Mix)
It was late 2001, and I was on duty, in military uniform, representing my country as an aide to a senior military officer. We were in the cafe at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at a working lunch with a senior officer of the Malaysian armed forces, and all of a sudden I became aware of this song. I lost track of the conversation and this song pulled me right on in, slow and smooth.

I called the waiter over, and in the middle of the lunch meeting asked what song this was. Not knowing, the waiter brought over the manager, and by then both the Malaysian host and my star-wearing boss were looking at me more than a little sideways. I asked the manager for the info, and he brought me the

Tree Hut 24 Hour Intense Hydrating Shea Body Butter Tropical Mango, 7oz, Hydrating Moisturizer with Pure Shea Butter for Nourishing Essential Body Care
This product is so soothing and smells amazing. I love the thick consistency of this and it makes your skin so soft especially after exfoliating or shaving. A little goes a long way with this so I don't have to use a lot of it. I've used it many times and the container looks untouched because you don't need to use a lot of the product. The scent is fresh and natural and not overpowering. The price is great and they come in many different scents. Will definitely be buying again.
Pros:
- Little goes a long way so it lasts a long time
- Low price
- Organic
- Great scent and it stays with you
- Skin feels so soft after using this
Cons: None!

Sterling Silver Diamond 3 Stone Pendant Necklace (1/4 cttw), 18"
Bought this for my grand daughters high school graduation. Was sceptical, but ordered it anyway. Was so glad I did. It is just beautiful! It sparkles and look so expensive. In fact, due to covid and my grand daughters graduation be scheduled at the last minute, I actually bought another necklace from a big name jewelry store, just to be sure I had a gift for her. I let her choose between the two and she picked this one! It was actually much prettier than the one from the big name jewelry store. I returned the other one. She loves this necklace and even told me that she would wear it on her wedding day! I guess grandma did good!

Awesome! A favorite Santa present! This was so unique as It came with a hand written thank you card from the seller. That was so sweet. Would by again. All of my kids and myself wanted to wear it. Just watched Guardians of the Galaxy again today with the glove on. He loves it! We were all naming the infinity stones! So fun! For adults and kids. It was a little big on him, he is 5, but he can grow into it. He still was able to snap us into oblivion like Thanos!
The Almighty Johnsons
The Almighty Johnsons
I've seen all three seasons of Almighty Johnsons and it is one of the best written dramedy shows on this platform. The storylines are strong and the characters are well fleshed out and engrossing. The dialogue and exchanges between this superb cast is so funny that there were times that I laughed so much I had to take a break, go tell someone what I had just experienced and then come back to watch the rest of the action. Amazon had all 3 seasons for a time then it became unavailable. Hopefully they are working on getting the rest as I highly recommend this as a must see series. If Amazon doesn't get the remaining seasons, buy them. You will love it!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
This is an extended version of Return of the King. The movie is spread across 2 discs and has extra scenes that were cut from the original. The last 2 discs are full of extras. Each part of the trilogy had a theme. The first was about the costs the Fellowship of the Ring would suffer on their quest to destroy the Ring. The second was about not giving up hope. This the third was whether the Fellowship could overcome the power of the Ring and complete their task.

The start of the film lays out the highs and the lows the Fellowship had and would face. First, there’s the tale of how Smeagol found the Ring and turned into Golem. He killed his friend to gain possession of it and then went through a terrible transformation. That was a warning about what the Ring could do to Frodo the Ring Bearer. Then Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, and King Theoden come across the defeated wizard redoubt of Isengard. That actually leads to one of the deleted scenes which is quite good about what happened to Saruman. That was Sauron’s first loss.

The movie has two main parts. On the one hand, Frodo, Sam and Golem are heading towards Mount Doom to destroy the Ring. On the other, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, and company have to defend against the armies of Sauron, first in Gondor and then in Mordor. Frodo’s story is about personal sacrifice, while Aragorn and the others deal with the large battles.

Out of the three extended versions of the Lord of the Ring trilogy this is by far the best one. The cut scenes really fill out the story and have some great images to them. In the other two movies the additions were nice and interesting but not essential. This one is actually better than the original release.
Civil Disobedience and Other Essays (The Collected Essays of Henry David Thoreau) (Digireads.com Classic)
Civil Disobedience and Other Essays (The Collected Essays of Henry David Thoreau) (Digireads.com Classic)
I knew that Henry David Thoreau was a tax evader, however I did not realize how radical he was until I read his book on the duty of civil disobedience.

He starts off with "The government is best which governs not at all." This should have tipped me off to what was going to come next.

What would Timothy McVeigh think if he had read this (and he might have):
"Unjust laws exist: shall we be content to obey them, or shall we endeavor to amend them, and obey them until we have succeeded, or shall we transgress them at once?"

Henry David Thoreau's discussion of democracy verging on mob or only majority rule also could have incited certain people. If you put your hand over the title and read the sentences they could've been dropped into "Mein Kamph" and fit very well.

The bottom line in his dissertation is stated:
"There will never be a really free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize that individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly."

A Nightmare on Clown Street (Goosebumps Most Wanted #7)
I read it to a group of 6th graders. I asked for their opinion on the book after we finished reading it and they pointed out that there were a lot of dull moments and also that after a while, they knew that every cliffhanger would always end up the same. The chapter would end with a scary/bad moment and the next chapter would start with saying something like “Oh it actually was a good thing!” Not sure how to explain it. Regardless they said said the book was okay but they were happy to be done with it.

First of all, this book (a graphic story) is based on the story of the same name in Koontz's Strange Highways anthology. And while the story is well-written and exciting, the graphic story version is not as good. The graphics themselves are excellent, but like novel adaptations to movies, this adaptation seemed to be missing something. The pace was too quick and suspense was absent throughout much of the book. The dialogue translated well into word bubbles, but much of the details and description were not left to the imagination. And much of the same were just omitted. So overall, I liked the book, but I would much rather read the story without the pictures. Prose is Koontz's forte, not scripting comic books.

The Case of the Angry Mourner (Perry Mason Series Book 38)
The Case of the Angry Mourner (Perry Mason Series Book 38)
Hmm, as of this writing (September 2014), the “book description” on Amazon (regarding a Rita Swaine character) bears no resemblance to the actual book I received. That was a bit of a surprise when I started reading it as I instantly, from the opening lines, remembered the episode from the TV series, and it was very different from the description. Still, it was a very interesting and enjoyable book.

This book involved a mother and young adult daughter, each suspected of murdering a rather nasty playboy who attacked the daughter. Unfortunately, since each is trying to protect the other, both lie to Mason. In fact, it seems that no one is capable of telling the truth. Mason has to defend his client (while indirectly protecting the other woman), despite a wealth of circumstantial evidence proclaiming guilt.

This was my first Perry Mason book, although I’ve seen the 1930’s movies with Warren William and Ricardo Cortez several times, and I’ve probably seen each of the TV episodes even more times. I immediately read another book in the series after this one, so some of my impressions were formed from reading them both.

The things that surprised me most included the fact that the Perry Mason character was a little different from the TV series, a little more edgy, occasionally irritable. The opposing counsel was also a bit nastier and more competitive, with a more realistic antagonism toward Mason (I worked with lawyers for years, and most tend to view a lawsuit as a war that must be won at any cost).

And, of course the biggest difference was that in the two I read, the guilty party does not suddenly jump up in court and confess (sometimes with very little provocation). As much as we all love those “Perry Mason moments,” they really weren’t that realistic. The books don’t need to end in 60 minutes, minus commercials, so there is much more time to develop a plot and come to a conclusion. I found that more satisfying.
Dragon Ball Z, Vol. 2: The Lord of Worlds
Dragon Ball Z, Vol. 2: The Lord of Worlds
The content is five-star Dragon Ball Z. You either like it or not. My critiques for this iteration of the story is that the binding seems to generally give out around the cover material. Nothing's fallen out yet, but it's a blemish on the book's presentation, as well as a bad omen for what future readings could do to it's construction. Also, it's displeasing how some of the originally-in-color pages are colored and others are not. . . it just seems fairly arbitrary. I'm specifically talking about the grayscale pages, and not the regular manga black-and-white.

Overall, I like that I can purchase three volumes of DBZ for a fraction of the price if I bought seperate volumes, but I would have liked better binding, and more color pages (in the case of the pages that were originally in color).

Dragon Ball Z, Vol. 6
Dragon Ball Z, Vol. 6
Freeza and his cronies are collecting Dragon Balls on Namek while Kuririn and Son Gohan look on with horror, helpless. Meanwhile, Son Goku is on his way, training hard, and Vegeta is also on Namek, secretly collecting Dragon Balls for his planned insurrection against Freeza.

This one’s a mostly Vegeta-centric volume as he begins to take out Freeza’s elite guard starting with Dodoria. He learns the truth behind what really happened to the Saiyan homeworld but it also reveals something about Freeza - he’s afraid of the Saiyans’ power. This is also the first time super Saiyans are mentioned… But, as is often the case with Vegeta, his arrogance gets the best of him and his battle against Zarbon goes badly.

Kuririn and Gohan have some cool moments. Gohan heroically saves a Namekian kid called Dende from slaughter at Dodoria’s hands before Kuririn, equally heroically, has to use his wits to save Dende and Gohan. Thanks to a Namekian elder destroying Freeza’s scouters (those head-sets they use to, gah, measure chi power), they’re now unable to pinpoint the locations of the Dragon Balls, buying everyone more time for Son Goku to arrive.

It’s a fun book with a lot of cat and mouse scenes as Kuririn, Gohan and Dende make their way to the Namekian’s Great Elder trying not to be spotted by Vegeta, Zarbon or Dodoria, all of whom are much too powerful to take on in a head-to-head fight. Freeza has five Dragon Balls while Vegeta has one - they have to get to the last one before either of them! There’s also the delightful reappearance of some old friends at the Lord of the Worlds’ place.

Volume 6 is another great addition to the series but I feel it’s more table-setting before the real story begins with Goku’s appearance. Still lots of fun though and I’m looking forward to seeing how Freeza fares in battle - you know it’s gonna be awesome!

Tick Tock (Michael Bennett, Book 4)
Tick Tock (Michael Bennett, Book 4)
Michael Bennett is back in this 4th book in the Michael Bennett series. While taking his ten (TEN!) adopted children to a seaside retreat with live in nanny Mary Katherine and (the hilarious and wise) Grandpa.

What Detective Michael Bennett had hoped for was a little r & r and perhaps exploring his growing feelings for Mary Katherine, he uncovered much more than he bargained for when a rash of bizarre crimes tear through the city, terrorizing everyone who lives there . So much for vacation...

When Michael is pulled away from the retreat to investigate the crimes, his family is left open for attack. Working the case with attractive colleague FBI Agent Emily Parker, Michael finds himself questioning what the future may hold. All the while the clock is ticking towards who is behind the odd murders that seem to be copy cats old famous crimes...

TICK
TOCK

A couple of years ago when I started to embrace audio books - this series was one of my first audio experiences. I know this is a Patterson book and I know some people struggle with his books and in some cases I agree, Patterson does have some gory graphic books out there. This series is not one of them. I think it is the touch of author Michael Ledwidge that gives this series its likability for me.

This series is centered around a detective, Michael Bennett who had adopted with his wife, 10 children. As the series opens, Michael loses his wife to cancer and while adjusting to a life without her, maintaining a huge household, and maintaining a high-capacity job, I kind of fell in love with this family.

In this fourth in the series, I enjoyed the start of a possible relationship between Michael and Mary Katheryn and even the annoying presence of the attractive Emily.... tossed in for good measure. The story line of the kids is always interesting and the crimes are usually good and not too graphic.

Usually.

I found in Tick Tock the gore level was raised - not a lot, but enough for me to notice. I could almost sense the shift from Ledwidge to Patterson. While I still enjoyed this audio, it was probably the one I have enjoyed the least out of the series.

Will I continue with the next one when it comes out? Absolutely... there is still more of this story to be told and I for one want to know what will happen.

Roald Dahl's Scrumdiddlyumptious Story Collection: Six Marvellous Stories Including The BFG and Five Other Stories (Roald Dahl Box Set)
Well obviously this is a straight five out of five! Roald Dahl's the master of children's stories if you ask me, and I've bought these books partly so that I can read them with my young son and partly to improve my own writing (I'm a children's author myself but nowhere near as good as the great man himself!). All these books are wonderful but I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is my favourite. Highly recommended!

Naruto, Vol. 37: Shikamaru's Battle
Naruto, Vol. 37: Shikamaru's Battle
Overall, I love this book because I'm a huge Kakashi fangirl, and frankly, this is the least amount of clothing we ever get to see on him. lol. And by that, I mean he's fighting without his headband, his vest, and has a rip in his mask. Pretty risque for Kakashi, right?

Also, any Shikamaru fan is sure to enjoy this as everyones favorite slacker gets a fantastic fight and gets to prove himself against the Akatuski duo of Hidan and Kakuzu (certainly an interesting tag team).

Only problem is that this is EDITED when it comes to some panels with Shikamaru. At first, I just couldn't figure out why he kept holding his hand in a funny way in some panels, but I finally realized that he is supposed to be smoking Asuma's cigarettes as a way to cope with his death until getting revenge. However this, of course, had to be taken out for the "kiddies" that Jump seems to like to target with this series (even though it obviously contains more mature moments *cough* The sexy-no-jutsu *cough*. It's for teens and pre-teens people, let's get real. Other than that, the translation is decent, except for one part where Yamato says, "You're looking pretty slovenly, Sempai" to Kakashi. Because really translators, we English speakers definitely talk like that.

If you're okay with these minor changes, go for it. It's certainly a good book for any Kakashi or Shikamaru fan. No Sasuke, sorry fangirls.

Saving Summer (Florida Veterans Book 1)
Saving Summer (Florida Veterans Book 1)
Wow, straight in with some hot and heavy scenes. I really enjoyed this book, the characters are easy to fall in love with and the story is just a little heartbreaking, certainly enough to get me emotional and choked up. They have been friends for many years, supporting each other, his family becoming hers as well. They have never, despite love and attraction taken their friendship further because of the risk of losing each other if it didn't work.
This has some suspense and a little violence but it is gripping and interesting. I loved the very special relationship the characters had already and how in tune with each other they were, as well as the respect and understanding each had. I also loved the interaction with the dog, he was a character in his self. The team from the security company is also great, quickly stepping up to help when needed and Hudson I look forward to hearing more of.
The author has done a really great job of keeping a balance between all aspects of the story and the flow is uninterrupted and well written. This is definitely a series I shall follow and recommend.

The Mummy
The Mummy
Sexy immortals with angst to spare are the cornerstones of Anne Rice's fiction. "The Mummy or Ramses the Damned" takes a different direction, mixing romance with horror and supernatural thrills. It has its flaws, but the raw energy of the book keeps it roaring up to the finale.

Lawrence Stratford uncovers the mummy of Ramses the Second, or "Ramses the Damned." But before he can unravel the mysteries around the mummy, he's murdered by his amoral nephew Henry, and the mummy is shipped to England. Lawrence's daughter Julie takes possession both of the family fortune and the mummy -- only to have the mummy revive when exposed to sunlight, and try to kill the murderous Henry. He's Ramses, an Egyptian king who drank an elixir of eternal life taken from a Hittite priestess.

Long ago, he faked his own death and wandered the world, eventually returning to Egypt and becoming the mentor/lover of the legendary Cleopatra -- only to lose her first to Antony, then to death. At first, Ramses is thrilled by the early-twentieth-century England, and he and Julie start to fall in love. But on a trip to Egypt, he comes across the mummy of Cleopatra, and revives her with a vial of the elixir. Except that this Cleopatra is mad, murderous, torn by her old loves and hates -- and unkillable.

This is not your parents' "Mummy" story. Except for one mildly funny scene where Rameses first revives, there are no stumbling mummies covered in bandages. Instead we have a tortured immortal who wakes up into a new world, while still being rooted in the Egypt of three thousand years ago.

Rice's lush prose is well-suited to the splendor of early twentieth-century England, when Egyptology was the fad -- she has lots of fun with the lace, pearl buttons, and opera houses. Her most awkward points are when Rameses is marveling at/criticizing 1914 England. At the same time, she gives new twists to the tale of the mummy, such as having him romance Cleopatra.

Ramses gives a slightly new twist to the tormented, lonely immortal, by having his almost childlike response to things like faucets and shoes. Julie falls for him a bit too quickly (yes, he's gorgeous, but what else?), but a good love interest. The other characters -- the youth-craving Elliott, his clueless but sweet son Alex, and the money-hungry, evil Henry -- are all intriguing and fully explored. But Cleopatra is what makes the book -- she's seductive but mad, tormented but still loving. Dislike her, but Rice will make you pity her too.

"The Mummy or Ramses the Damned" gives new twists to the story of a mummy come to life. Rather than an undercooked horror novel, Rice gives a thrilling, chilling look at immortality, and how what you want is not what you get.

Readers Digest Condensed Books Volume 4 1987, The Silver Touch, Windmills of The Gods, Unholy Matrimony, Outbreak
The Silver Touch is just gorgeous - the pictures sweet and memorable. The history behind silversmithing and the sweet romance between Hester and John is faultless. They weather some storms in their journey to achieve their dreams and I found it utterly compelling. It's based on a true historical figure and her masterpieces still live on. I googled her history and wow! her silver work is still highly sought after.
I'm a new fan of Rosalind Laker - highly recommended!
Monsoon (The Courtney Series: The Birds of Prey Trilogy Book 2)
Monsoon (The Courtney Series: The Birds of Prey Trilogy Book 2)
Whether taken independently as a novel in its own right, or read as another in Wilbur Smith's sequence of 'Courtney' novels, 'Monsoon' is a magnificent read. The young Hal Courtney whom we left in 'Birds of Prey'is now mature and thrice widowed and comfortably ensconced at the family seat, High Weald, in Dorset with his three sons, William, Tom and Dorian. When Hal is asked by the East India Company to take once more to the ocean wave in pursuit of an arab pirate, Al Auf, 'the Bad One', who is laying waste the shipping in the Ocean of the Indies to the detriment of Company interests, he has to act fast. He leaves William, his son and heir, to take charge of the family estate and business and decides that his young boys, Tom and Dorian, must accompany him, along with his old retainer Aboli. Hal's old muckers from their various domiciles in Dorset and London are brought together and they set out via the Cape of Good Hope to hunt down the pirate.

The sequence of the 'Courtney' series is as follows.
The Lion Feeds
Sound of Thunder
A Sparrow Falls
Birds of Prey
Monsoon
Blue Horizon
The Triumph of the Sun

The adventure of 'Monsoon' is a stunning narrative of life on the tall ships, depicted with remarkable authenticity by Wilbur Smith, to whom all credit must go for the depth and detail of his research, of warfare and savagery on the high sea and the heart-rending abduction by the pirates during a decisive sea battle of the ten year-old Dorian.

There would be little point in tracing here the strands of the narrative as they take the reader through the ensuing eventful decade in the lives of the young Courtneys. The 'Monsoon' of the title, however, is a direct reference to the destiny of Dorian, held first in captivity and then rising to the highest echelons of the social and military hierarchy of the Omani empire. In many respects, his extraordinary interlude in the Muslim lands and the changes that this experience brings to bear on his character and personality as he reaches manhood, make 'Monsoon' essentially Dorian's story.

I did feel that, long as the novel is, the end is too suddenly and too abruptly upon us and several fundamental questions remain unanswered. What is the fate of Zayn El Din, Dorian's deadliest rival who spares to effort to take his life and very nearly succeeds? What becomes of High Weald after the demise of both Hal and William, during the years that the younger boys are absent? Does its ownership fall to Dorian and, in light of their God-sent reunion, does he simply abandon it in order to pursue his life with Tom in the New World?

This criticism notwithstanding, 'Monsoon' makes splendid reading, exquisitely romantic, exciting, thrilling and compelling. I recommend it unreservedly.

Win, Lose or Die: A 007 Novel (James Bond 007)
Win, Lose or Die: A 007 Novel (James Bond 007)
The 1980s Bond novels had seen the steady thawing of the Cold War and the disappearance of the Fleming plot gambit of 007 playing cat and mouse with a major supervillain. With the brick dust flying in Berlin, and the writer himself off to live in the USA, a palpable turning point was reached in the books both in narrative and context that would launch Gardner's Bond in a completely new direction for the 90s.

Score: 8/10. Bond returns to the Royal Navy for a joint UK, USA and USSR war game marking the USSR's "perestroika" (economic restructuring) and "glasnost" (cultural and political openness) policies. A new terrorist group BAST (Brotherhood of Anarchy & Secret Terror) has threatened to wreak havoc. But whom can 007 trust? Beautiful WREN officer Clover Pennington? Italian sex bomb Beatrice? Or enigmatic Russian Naval Attache Nicki?

It's a radical departure and takes a little getting used to, but it's a resounding success. The techno-thriller style (more Frederick Forsyth than Tom Clancy) really suits Gardner's knack with action and technical detail. The first few chapters alone are packed with exciting and immersive set pieces- you feel you could probably fly a sea harrier! Unlike other breaks from the format Bond remains at the forefront of the action, while intercutting the villains' machinations sets up the next threat without slowing things down. With SPECTRE dead and gone, the author anticipates the risk of BAST becoming a pale imitation: even Bond notes "it sounds like a poor man's SPECTRE." Although we don't get the meticulous background we got from Fleming (or Benson's Union Trilogy), there's a delightfully cynical reason for BAST's hollow heart.

The focus on prose rather than dialogue suits the writer and there are some lovely nods to the past. We return to Quarterdeck, M's country pile at Windsor that first appeared (also at Christmas) in Fleming's OHMSS and then (described in more detail) in Amis' Colonel Sun. The latter adventure is never explicitly referred to in Gardner's novels, but Quarterdeck's description here tallies exactly with Amis' embellishments (Bathstone, silver birches, Spanish mahogany, Squirrel pub) proving that Gardner at least took the trouble to read it!

On the downside, Bond's pretty sour throughout: pining for his naval days for the first time, and spouting chunks of Dante and Gilbert & Sullivan. Enough to make anyone miserable really. There's a lack of glamour as the Bentley and ASP are left at home, replaced by a BMW and a new Browning. Bond's promotion to Captain is a mistake; Commander just sounds better on him (Benson switched him back). Only a little wine before our hero switches to fizzy water, and the naval locations were never going to be luxurious.

Still the structure is very effective: detailed training; bitter sweet interlude; high seas whodunnit. We get Gardner's most convincing love match for 007 yet: attractive and well characterised, she lets the stuffing out of Bond like Honey Ryder before her. The big boys toys and the French meal with a slender WREN officer are very Fleming- I wonder if he'd have been most amused by this of all Gardner's Bonds? Underrated and the biggest welcome surprise of my 2012 reread.

Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan: The Sunday Comics, 1931-1933
Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan: The Sunday Comics, 1931-1933
I come to this book primarily as one interested in Hal Foster's work. I collect Prince Valiant full pages and have all but 20-25 from 1940 to 1971. I also have another 10 from 1938 and 1939, but I don't actively collect those because I have the very satisfactory Manuscript Press full page reprints from 1937-1939. I also have two tab pages from 1937 and I have the old and the new Fantagraphics books. I did buy the NBM Foster Tarzan books a long time ago and later, since I had an opportunity to get the Hogarth books at a pretty reasonable price and had already read the Foster, I got the Hogarth, too, and read them. On a related topic, I have always loved looking at Raymond's Flash Gordon, but when I tried to read it I never got very far except I did read the whole 11x15 inch black and white Nostalgia Press book of strips from late 1938 to 1941 back when I bought it about 1967. Recently I have bought and read the first 3 volumes of the IDW Flash Gordon/Jungle Jim book and expect to get the fourth when it comes out. The IDW books are a little smaller than I would like to see it--I wish they were full size or at least the size of the Dark Horse Tarzan book, but they are gorgeous with the slightly larger than tab size pages and nice color shot from original Sunday comic strip pages nicely cleaned up (though I don't have any original Sunday pages to compare them to). Compared to Prince Valiant, the early Tarzans are not very well written, in my opinion. Toward the middle and later part of the Foster run, I thought it was somewhat better, perhaps because Foster may have been considerably rewriting the scripts he was given, but it was never as good as even the earliest and least well written Prince Valiants. And after Foster left, I think the writing on Tarzan got worse again for several years before it picked up midway through the Hogarth run.

To answer the question in Tim Hewitt's review, why the race for the biggest book? Because the strips were intended to be seen that size. Sometime after the first Fantagraphics series of Prince Valiant had printed the first decade or so of Prince Valiant, I sat down with my Manuscript Press Full Size reprints of 1937-39 and read them, expecting to continue reading the Prince Valiant saga to the end. But when I got to 1940, the small size, image quality, and coloring of the pages was so disappointing, I couldn't continue reading them. After a while I decided to collect original Full Size Sunday pages from 1940 to 1971. Luckily I already had about 200 pages from the 1960s that I had bought off the newsstands and half a dozen other earlier pages. When I had completed the set up to 1950, I started reading from 1937 again and am now up to reading 1950, and I can continue to read up to 1966 before I am missing a page. The new Fantagraphics books are vastly improved image quality and coloring and if I want to reread Prince Valiant someday, they will probably be "good enough". But reading them full size is SO much better.

One of the reasons I was looking forward to this Dark Horse book was that I would be able to see the Foster art at or near Full Size. When I opened it up I was a little disappointed at the small size of the image on the pages. The page size is large enough that the 18 5/8 x 13 5/8 newspaper image would have fit on the pages with adequate margins, bigger than the NBM margins. But the 17 1/2 x 13 image size in the book is close and good enough that I will be satisfied with the size. I do have a handful of Prince Valiant Full pages from the 1950s about that size, but I am trying to replace them. The coloring in the Dark Horse book didn't look very good. As a Foster collector, I have bought 15 Foster Tarzans just to have samples of his work over the years he did Tarzan, while basically settling for the NBMs for reading purposes. I traded away my 9/27/31 Foster page, but made a Full size color xerox of it first. And I also have 10/4/31, 2/28/32, and 10/16 32, which are in this book. The coloring on the early pages is not very good, but it is better than in the Dark Horse book. Comparing my 10/4/31 page to the reprint, what is yellow in mine isn't yellow in the Dark Horse. It has a bit of green or brown or both in it; the NBM is yellow. The Cyan skies and uniforms of the original and NBM are more of a true blue in the in the Dark Horse. The bright reds and the deep pink stripes on the Arab robes in the original are a uniform dull red with brown and/or orange mixed in the Dark Horse, and the NBM is somewhere between the two. Black in the original is kind of grey; this is also true in the NBM. In the Dark Horse, blacks are truer, which in some ways is good but combined with the darker duller coloring it obscures Foster's linework more than in the original or NBM. The pretty greens of the original become darker and uglier in this book. Some of the dark greens turn blue in the NBM but otherwise they are closer to the original. Overall, the coloring in the Dark Horse looks more like my mediocre color xerox of the 9/27/31 page than the original. My 9/27/31 color xerox looks a lot like the book page of 9/27/31, but the book page is still darker and duller; and at least yellow is still yellow on the color xerox page. Initially I wondered if the Dark Horse used the films and separations that NBM used, but reproduced them at a larger size. Looking at the books, I think not, or at least not always, because there are frequent small differences. Page 7, which another reviewer mentioned, looks like a defect in the Sunday page from which it was shot. Page 8 may be an artifact of the darker, duller inks used in the Dark Horse book.

The 2/28/32 page looks better in both the original and the two books. But the Dark Horse has darker coloring and truer blacks and the NBM has lighter coloring that is also somewhat untrue. Detail in the linework is best in the NBM and worst in the Dark Horse. But the Dark Horse is also very close to the original. The native in panel 8 loses only a little detail in the linework compared to my original but the NBM allows you to see much more detailed linework, perhaps because of superior detail and lighter coloring on the original page it was shot from. 10/16/32 looks even better than 2/28/32 in all three. The Dark Horse still suffers from ugly brownish reds but greens and blues are much closer to the original, though the yellow still isn't yellow. But in isolation it is a very nice looking page, and in comparison it is acceptably close. The NBM is a little darker than the others but still looks quite nice.

I haven't read the book yet. I have looked through it and done somewhat close comparisons between the Dark Horse book, the NBM and 3 original Sunday pages and a color xerox I own. I would recommend that Dark Horse talk to the people at IDW doing Flash Gordon/Jungle Jim. There is a lot of room for improvement in the Dark Horse and the strips to come are better quality Foster, and Foster may have started doing the coloring because the art and coloring are both much better in the later pages I have, even in 1933. I am hopeful Dark Horse will fix the flaws in future books, though I have little hope for a revised improved edition of this one. But I do plan to buy the rest of the Foster books if they are only as good as the latter part of this one. I do have the Chelsea House Golden Age of Tarzan, but I don't know that I would buy this series beyond the end of Foster if it continues beyond. But there is probably a bigger market for Hogarth than there is for Foster, especially if they make major improvements in the second volume and continue them. I would like to give this book more than 3 stars. The large size is really nice. Perhaps, the improvements in volume 2 will be such that I can give that book 5 stars.

Jason and the Golden Fleece (Penguin Epics Book 6)
I teach a classics in translation course at the University of Washington and I have had a few students who buy this edition of "Jason and the Golden Fleece" through Amazon.com. While I have no problem with the translation, I do have a problem with the fact that this edition does not state clearly that it is an abridged version of the epic. It is essentially books 2 and 3 of the four book epic. If you are buying this to read Apollonius' epic then get a different version like the Oxford World Classics version which is complete. You can find this much better edition under: Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford World's Classics). Please be aware that this Penguin version is ONLY books 2 and 3 of Apollonius' epic.

Let me just start out by saying that I ordered the biggest size and the hood and sleeves are HUGE, but ironically the front won't fully close over my 52 inch hips. This was very clearly made for people who don't have big hips. It's also really long, I'm 5.7 and it drags about 4 inches on the ground.
So it honestly looks really cool for what I bought it for. I just put a skirt under it and it's fine. The super large hood and sleeves gave it a very creepy look. Everyone at my LARP loved it.
I only wish that it came with some kind of washing instructions.
I bought the burgundy and it's true to color, and only slightly see through. It feels to be mostly polyester, but it's fairly thick material. So a couple steps up from a Halloween store robe.
I think it's worth the price.

Harry Potter och Hemligheternas kammare: Harry Potter-serien 2
With the adventures of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling singlehandedly saved the publishing industry. It is impossible to overstate the impact these books had on both child and adult readers. The anticipation for the next sequel! The midnight release parties! While you missed all that excitement, you now have the joys of being able to read all the books at once.

Please do read the books; don’t just watch the movies.

PARENTS BEWARE: As Harry Potter ages, the subject matter grows more mature. J.K. Rowling was quite clear that she was not writing for young children. These books grow increasingly more intense. Exercise caution.

I was a bit skeptical of all the hype around Blender Bottles with their fancy whisks that are supposedly just as good as a regular blender so I decided to take a chance on these HP ones and figured if they don't work, at least I have a cute Gryffindor cup! Well, consider me impressed! The first time I tried the blender bottle I thought I had better take it easy, so I only added my almond milk and protein powder, shook it up, and took a sip. I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth it was. The next day, I decided to step it up a notch and I added almond milk, heavy cream, protein powder, cocoa powder, and powdered peanut butter. Well, this was no match for the blender bottle as it mixed them all together really well! I am now thoroughly impressed and a blender bottle devotee.

Mini Tins Set Of 4 - Harry Potter (Map)
My Daughter is Harry Potter mad (Well Hermione Granger mad) so for her birthday we did a bit of a Harry Potter theme for her and her sister plus a few close family members (due to lockdown). We made some little party bags for the 4 children and picked these up to drop them in the bags.

They are nicely designed, and look good but they are smaller than when I had anticipated, which is probably my fault for fully reading the text. The are around the size of tick tac box but it doesn't really take away from their appeal. Although I would say that they are slightly expensive for the size.

We've stuck some little sweets in them, and they went down well, so overall I'm happy with them.

Something fabulous . Heavenly taste. Heaven in your mouth. The whole family, we eat slices smeared with honey, for breakfast and dinner. I don't even need bread, I just drink milk. I melted a piece of onion, apple and pineapple for spreading bread for a baby. Fights bad cholesterol. It stabilizes blood pressure and treats memory loss, which I have experienced myself. It makes me immune to the virus that has attacked me. I really recommend it to everyone. Great delivery and quality.
Reweaving the Fabric: How Congregations and Communities Can Come Together to Build Their Neighborhoods
Reweaving the Fabric: How Congregations and Communities Can Come Together to Build Their Neighborhoods
This book tells the story of a small church and a forgotten community's journey from hopelessness to triumph, from defeat to victory; it tells of their journey from the Bottom to the Top. The author was the pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Birmingham, Alabama during the time this community revitilization project took place.
This book can be used to explain the strategic planning process to novices, why community involvement is necessary, and why churches must network with other organizations in the public and private sector in order to change communities. The table of content outlines the journey and the appendices provide copies of the documents that the community action group used to transform a six block blighted area into six blocks of brand new homes.
The action group did not stop after the housing redevelopment phase was completed, but used this same technique to address economic development and youth leadership issues. After they were able to REWEAVE THE FABRIC of relationships and bridge the huge gap between the church and the community, a neighborhood once named Sandy Bottom changed its name to Sandy Vista. This book provides the techniques for effecting change in our neighborhoods.

Best Friends Club Ink. 18 inches Large Doll Fashion Pack Pretty Preppy
Best Friends Club Ink. 18 inches Large Doll Fashion Pack Pretty Preppy
This doll outfit is for the BFC INK DOLLS originally. People need to read. I see a ton of unreasonable bad ratings on these outfits because they bought them thinking they'd fit the American Girl dolls. So what if the search results take you to them...can't they read? It says BFC Ink doll Clothing big 18in doll. They're thinner than the American Girl dolls so these outfits are impossible for them. They do however fit for the Lorifina doll but the pants are too short because Lorifina dolls are taller by a couple inches and the shoes are too big for her. Things like the skirts, shirts, shorts, jackets, sweaters, dresses, and swim suits will fit Lorifina from BFC Ink doll clothing. I tried Journey Girl Clothing on my BFC Ink doll and my Lorifina doll but it was just a slight bit too wide on both so maybe go on Ebay and buy the very affordable Journey Girl doll outfits. I got a beautiful pink lace dress from the Journey Girl clothing line on Ebay for $5. It was great quality and arrived fast. Journey Girl dolls are the more affordable versions of the American Girl dolls so it's not surprising that they would fit the American Girl dolls too. Interesting observation...the BFC Ink doll outfits here were incredibly snug even on the dolls they're made for. So they have no room to fit any other doll thicker than these ones. That's why they even fit on Lorifina dolls because she's slimmer than the BFC Ink dolls. This is my second purchase of this same outfit on Amazon because I have two BFC Ink dolls that I want to wear. It's one of my favorites and was on sale for $2 less than what I paid for the other one.

The A-Z Basketball Book: What Every Player Needs to Know to Be Great at the Game!
The A-Z Basketball Book: What Every Player Needs to Know to Be Great at the Game!
I am a parent, former basketball player, and coach and I absolutely loved this book. I purchased this book for my 11 year old son who plays division 1 AAU basketball and this book was exactly what he needed. This book not only reiterates many things I have told my son for years but it covers vital information that not only relates to basketball but to life in general. It covers skill, respect, morals, responsibility, effort and dedication. It explains the things that most coaches assume that skilled players already know. The explanations in this book are clear and basic but are vital to success. My son knew most of the things in this book but know has an in-depth knowledge understands WHY he does the things he does. Its motivating, inspiring, accurate and precise. Every basketball player at ANY age should read this book you will gain something out of it! Im impressed! The book also has a link to his website with videos to show you certain drills!

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 – 13.5" Touch-Screen – Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 256GB Solid State Drive (Latest Model) – Platinum with Alcantara
I bought this mainly to be my dedicated personal/music recording laptop (I use another equipment for company work). It's really powerful considering the price, size and weight (enough to play Divinity 2 over Steam, for example). Camera is impressively good and can compensate very well for poor lighting with very little noise. Sound is fair for overall use (I use an external Focusrite interface for music recording/editing). Now the cons:

1. Because I usually run it on power, only after a few months I realized this odd behavior of completely shutting down randomly when running on battery, even with battery full. Tried to fix it via software several times (Windows and Firmware updates, Factory Reset and Recovery from USB). Nothing worked. Seems like a hardware defect by the behavior and result of some online research so I returned it for replacement. Hope the new unit works.

2. The keyboard looks fragile. You can see its surface bending while you type. I wonder how long until I need to repair/replace it.

3. It would be nice if the touch screen could be flipped all the way back to work like a tablet.

4. The face recognition log in mechanism (I don't recall how Microsoft calls it) is a little bit odd and I'm thinking about disabling it completely. Did some research and it appears it uses an infrared dedicated camera instead of the main "normal" camera so this would explain why it was recognizing me even with the regular camera covered. I never got to confirm this a 100% but then I decided to test in a way where I wasn't even in front of the screen and the thing would unlock sometimes! Since I use it only at home in these quarantine times, not a big deal, but I would NEVER leave this thing enabled if taking it outside.

Overall, assuming the replacement will solve the battery problem, I would see this laptop has a nice value for money on its tier.

USB C Charging Station, 8 Ports Multiple USB Chargers with Fast Charger Port and LCD Display for iPhone 12 Cell Phones, Tablets and Other Electronics
I so much wanted to give a 5 star review for this product. The reason I purchased it was to be able to leave behind all my other chargers when I travel with my photo and dive equipment and just use this one device with my usual charging cables. The design is beautiful, straightforward. Everything worked at home when I tried it and then I took it with me for my recent 1 week trip to Belize.
On the fourth day of the trip my phone (Pixel 3) went into a charging loop when I connected the PD charger cable to it. This means that it started to charge and then stopped and then started again and every time it gave a sound effect. It did not charge effectively all night. I tried to re-plug, restart my phone, used a different outlet and different cable with no effect. Thankfully I had the OEM phone charger with me and when I plugged it in to the outlet, it worked flawlessly. So I stopped using it with my Pixel 3 phone. A day later the entire charger died. It would simply not turn on when I plugged it in the wall no matter which outlet I used. Again, I had some backup chargers with me and they all worked in the same outlets without any problem. Needless to say, by the time I returned from my vacation I just ran out of the 30-day warranty when I could return the item without any hassle although I only used it for less than 5 days.
I tried it this morning and now it is working again in my home outlet in the U.S. with occasional on and off looping of my Pixel 3 phone with the PD charger. My unfortunate conclusion is that I cannot rely on this device to take it with me to a trip and save on my luggage weight because I cannot afford to leave behind the OEM chargers for all my rechargable gear. I am really sorry because this seemed to be the only mildly charger with the PD port on Amazon that would perfectly fit my needs otherwise. I wonder if others had any similar experiences.

Multi USB 8-Port Smart Fast Desktop Hub Wall Charger Charging Station Quick Charge 3.0 USB Type C Port With LED Display Compatible with Apple Samsung Android Smart Phone, Tablet, Nintendo Switch Games
A bit of documentation re: what the display is telling us would have been nice, however the device's operation is pretty straightforward.

As stated in the headline I have been running it 24/7 since received on 3/2/2020. Generally at not more than 50% of rated capacity¹; it runs quite cool--a cool temperature, not "wicked awesome cool" (though it's not far from that either).

I have it stuck to the wall of my office (see photo )with that gray 3M double-sided tape (this stuff, https://www.amazon.com/3M-VHB-5952-Automotive-Industrial/dp/B00MAQBPEM, best there is).

I like it, highly recommended...

-------------------------------------
¹ -- as rule of thumb, for best performance and service life, electrical devices should not be run continuously at more than 80% of rated capacity.

Full Life Reuma-Art X Strength - 180 Veggie Capsules - Extra Strength & Fast Acting Anti-Inflammatory - Joint Pain Relief Supplement
Full Life Reuma-Art X Strength - 180 Veggie Capsules - Extra Strength & Fast Acting Anti-Inflammatory - Joint Pain Relief Supplement
I have been using Reuma Art X Strength for several years now. I had gone to my doctor complaining of waking up with aches and pains from arthritis. I have a very sensitive stomach and any anti inflammatory or pain pill that has ever been prescribed for me would bother my stomach. My doctor said that another one of his patients had found that Reuma Art helped her joint pains and he said it was safe for me to take. I ordered it the same day and it made a big difference from the first day that I took it. I now wake up completely pain free and this is nothing short of a miracle to me. Even better, it does not bother my stomach at all and I’ve had no side effects whatsoever from it. I have recommended this supplement to so many people and everyone who has tried it has found relief from their pain. It is pricey but I’ve never found anything that works like this so for me it’s worth it. Recently I forgot to re order it when I was running low and I ran out of it before the next bottle arrived. I couldn’t believe the difference, I was in pain all over again until it came in and I was able to take it again. I will never be without this again. I am giving my honest opinion and have not been compensated in any way for this, I have paid full price for every bottle.

Basic Fun Simon Electronic Game with Digital Screen and Built-In Counter, 9-Inch Diameter
This is a great gift idea for kids of ANY age and for adults too! My kids range in age from 5 years old through 18 years and they all enjoy it. It is fun game that can played alone or with multiple players. It can be played in the house, in the car, on camping trips, etc. Yes, it is an "older" game but is really timeless and it is probably one of the few games that can successfully compete with video games. This is a great gift for all. I am glad I purchased it.
Pon Travel Pillow Luxury Memory Foam Neck & Head Support Pillow Soft Sleeping Rest Cushion for Airplane Car & Home Best Gift(Pink)
Pon Travel Pillow Luxury Memory Foam Neck & Head Support Pillow Soft Sleeping Rest Cushion for Airplane Car & Home Best Gift(Pink)
Wowwwwwww! I suffer with my neck alot, especially when sitting. I get pins and needles numbness in my left shoulder and arm and terrible sinus drainage. This pillow is incredibly ergonomic, comfy yet supportive.

I bought this to help stretch, develop and strengthen my neck muscles for a better neck posture as well as relief from the aches and pains. Whilst also being able to relax fully.

I had this 2 minutes, placed it around my neck and Tada... cue sinus drainage, no nerve pain or numbness or tingling. My head is suppprted enough but not too much that i have full range of use when sitting relaxing.

I can't say it will help everyone but i am sold!

It rolls tight into the carry bag, bounces back to its shape very quickly. It is very soft and smooth to touch also. Supportive yet not rigid. I fully recommend this!

5 STARS UNITED Queen Luxury Pillows 2-Pack - 50x75 cm - Queen Size Hotel Quality Soft Pillow for Sleeping - Ultra Soft Support Bed Pillows - Hypoallergenic Fiber - Cotton Covers
These pillows are AMAZING. They are so incredibly soft and comfortable - if you like a firm, solid pillow however then you should look elsewhere.

They're still supportive enough for me at least, nice and fluffy but sink a nice amount when you rest your head on it. I'm used to down pillows, but these are at least as good in my opinion (and no loose feathers stabbing you through the pillow case!).

Apple iPhone 11 (128GB) - White
Apple iPhone 11 (128GB) - White
The iPhone design is good and the camera quality is awesome. You can also take pictures in wide angles and the image quality is awesome.

Phone got delivered at 9am on 28th September (I pre-order it on 27th September at 3am in the morning), I got my phone before the delivery date with nice and secured packaging.

The overall look of the phone is premium and face unlocking is fast. I grabbed this phone with HDFC 6K Instant Discount Offer at Just 64K (128 GB Variant).

Cons:

1. The phone is great but if you use "in the box" accessories like "EarPods with Lighting Connector", then you might feel a little pain in your ears.

2. The phone comes with 5W charger which charge your phone slowly. I recommend you to prefer using 18W charger.

Well, I've never tried the iPhone before and I'm using this for the first time (Yes, I'm already using other apple products like MacBook Air & Pro).

But the product is great and I'm just lovin it.
Fables Vol. 14: Witches (Fables (Graphic Novels))
Fables Vol. 14: Witches (Fables (Graphic Novels))
Another great collection from this long running series. Dealing with the aftermath of the Dark Man's arrival in respect of the Farm based Fables, and the release of all the evils in the business office, including Baba Yaga.

Once again Willingham's script propels the story and characters along with narry a jolt or boring section to be found. Buckingham's deft pencils are up to his usual incredibly high standards.

A must read for any Fables fan.
Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS Screen, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H Processor, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1660Ti, Windows 10, 82B1000AUS, Phantom Black

Heck, dollar for dollar this is the GAMING rig to beat.

Item of Note:
There IS a 2.5” hard drive caddy/cable with this model. Also the 2nd M.2 slot does show up if you put a NVME in there (not sure about SATA m.2 as I didn’t have one to test). It is standard 80mm size, same as the main slot, and seems to have extra room above/below it so I believe something double sided would fit, as would something with a SMALL heatsink on top (like say the Adata Swordfish one).

Screen:
Most of the other gaming laptops in the $750-1100 range have dim ~250 nit screens with awful <50% color gamuts. This one, 300nit rated (~330 actual based on reviews) 144hz and 100% srgb. It is striking, you won’t find a screen like this in this price range elsewhere.

Power:
Then you have a 8c/16t 4800H processor, which netted just under 4700 on Cinebench R20 in Performance Mode. For reference, my desktop running a Ryzen 3700X 8c/16t scores between 4600 and 4800 depending on background software and performance settings.

Memory:
The ram is ideal, 3200mhz, 16gb, you don’t want any less because that’s the lower limit for gaming and productivity, and you don’t want any more because each 8gb is about 3watts of power consumption. Not sure if it supports 32gb, I can’t see 16gb being the limit but the Lenovo Support responders in Q&A here seem to think it is.

Battery.:
It would be nice if they had any prebuilt options with the 80wh version, but they don’t, and I took a star off for that. Most of us would gladly pay an extra $50+ for that option. And I don’t feel like waiting 5+ weeks (2 months? 3?) for a custom one just to get it. That being said, with proper settings this 60wh can be sufficient.

*Quiet Mode (fn+q until power led turns blue)
*Battery Save mode on (click on battery icon, slide all the way to left)
*Hybrid Mode on (this is ESSENTIAL, it shuts off the dedicated graphics card when not needed)
*In Advanced Power Settings, adjust all of the AMD, Wireless, etc settings to their most ‘battery saving’ option

Doing all that I’m getting over 5 hours browsing the internet, longer if I have the internet open and am mostly working in excel or word (ie: normal school work/reports for office/etc). For instance, editting this review in the Amazon window, 4.1 hours remaining w/ 55% (7.5 hours total est). 7-8 hours watching Youtube @720p in Edge. Brightness at whatever battery saver drops it to when it’s on high to begin with. I intend on trying to swap in an 80wh when the parts are available.

Build quality:
The fit/finish and overall feel of the unit hits above its price point. The keyboard is exceptional for productivity, aside from the slightly cramped numpad. The touchpad is responsive. The rear I/O ports are great for desktop duty. But lets be real, Lenovo doesn’t exactly have a great reputation when it comes to customer service and turnaround times for repairs. None of the laptop manufacturers do though really, save Apple. My last Lenovo, a Y700, lasted over 5 years. I figure, get it, do some stress testing on the processor/GPU (Cinebench, Furmark), watch some movies and do some white/black backgrounds to check for dead pixels, and cross your fingers. To extend warranty through them is $50/100/175 for 1/2/3 extra years respectively, I personally am planning at least the $50 for an extra year.

Heat:
There is one drawback, this thing gets hot. I was expecting better thermals as I tested out a Legion 5 with the 4600H + 1650ti combo a while back. I would say this one runs ~5c average hotter across the board, and will spike to 95-100C+ if you’re doing something intense like Cinebench or Flight Sim 2020. In Flight Sim, average CPU temps over a 20 min flight were ~76c, CPU Die avg was ~85C. Temps are lower playing less demanding games, and even normally demanding games like AC Origins CPU avg was low 70’s, so not terrible. I spent some time looking into this, and apparently these hopped up gaming laptops hitting 90-100C is ‘okay’, even if I don’t really like or trust it. Also, the only option I know of that actually runs cooler than this with similar hardware is the Omen 15 AMD, so if temps are a priority may want to check that platform out. The Asus Tuf’s are as hot if not hotter, and the Dell G5 SE is a small portable sun. However, you do get something for this heat, the aforementioned Cinebench scores blow the competition out of the water, I still can’t believe it’s on par with my desktop processor.

Final Thoughts:
This thing runs warm, looks good (if you like the aesthetic), has a phenomenal spec sheet for the price, and has best in class screen for a non special-order low-mid budget prebuilt. Would recommend, with the one slight caveat regarding heat.
Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker
Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker
Where have I been? This is great! Super fast meals. Quick, and easy enough to make myself sweet potatoes even though I'll be the only one eating it. Also great for, dinner's ready and I forgot the side. Makes soups super quick and chicken stock is really simple. I don't have to babysit it for hours to get great flavor. Love using this for quick mashed potatoes. The recipe book is pretty good and covers most of what I can think of, Google gives me cooking time for anything else (whole chicken in 25 minutes). Reheats a rotisserie chicken or roast in about a min without drying it out! Disappointed that split pea soup is a no-no, but I'll survive. I am 35 years old with 5 kids. I use this 3+ times per week. Don't know how I've never heard how great these are. I did a pork loin in the crockpot and one in here just to compare. In a blind taste test the pressure cooker won unanimously!

Instant pot cooks at about 12lbs pressure. This comes with a 15 lb weight.

My only complaint is, there is only one screw holding one of the handles on. You need to press against the handle to open and close the cooker. Eventually it will loosen. Not hard to figure out, put two screws in the handle! It doesn't affect the functionality of the pot, but a little common sense on the part of presto would prevent me from retightening a screw every once in a while.

I know the chicken in the picture isn't super pretty, but it is falls right off the bone and is delicious!

Guys please don’t buy aluminium cookers. It discharges lead.
Cooking in cooker is not advisable. Only for occasional and for people who are in a hurry.
Always buy steel based cookers. Don’t ever go for aluminium vessels or cookers. For long term usage of aluminium vessels it will impact your health in a big way.
It even creates thyroid abnormalities for both men n women.
I’m not someone who writes reviews for likes I wanted to write because I’ve personally experienced it. Aluminium and plastic impacts a lot on your health. Stay away from these two !!!

It arrived just in time with prime, so that's great. It is a lot bigger than i thought it would be but it still looks really good.

I bought it for my flat in student accommodation as I noticed the room would constantly get a bit dusty even after doing a deep clean, it definitely is doing its job. Maybe it's just me but I feel like it made the air more fresh??... I also have one of those air freshener automatic dispensers and the smell seems to be more potent after i placed the air purifier near it. Maybe it's getting rid of other smells that were masking the air freshener? I don't know, but I love it so far.

I sampled this and fell in love with the sweet/salty mix. It is a great product to sooth voices and throats in cold dry weather.
I received this earlier than expected with a note from the supplier. Rather than have me wait, they sent 23 items and credited me.
I was anxious for the pastilles and was very grateful.
Moment of Truth (The Potentate of Atlanta Book 5)
Moment of Truth (The Potentate of Atlanta Book 5)
This cannot be the end of this series.

I’ve now read 7 or so series by this author. Every single one starts out brilliantly as Ms. Edwards introduces readers into her fictional world, although this has been, by far, my favourite. If the introductory books were single, stand alone works, they would leave readers wanting more, but largely fulfilled because the central conflict of the first book is, for the most part, definitively resolved. And we are fortunate, in many ways, that there are more books to follow that further expands the alternate universe and draws the truly stellar characters into greater detail.

Unfortunately, Ms. Edwards rarely definitively answers the questions that she, herself, raises about significant conflicts and mysterious characters. From the Araneae series all the way through the Foundling series, including Black Dog, Lorimer, Gemini, and the denouement of TBGTN that never got around to explaining how Grier could be both a female last seed and a necromancer, much less have a baby, readers are obviously willing to read thousands of pages abundantly staying with Ms. Edwards, who never quite gets around to wrapping up these loose threads. Even now, in what is supposed to be the last book of the POA series, the series feels unfinished and I feel quite burned by the TBGTN epilogues that detract from the original series.

Ultimately, Hadley is still not the POA and has six more months remaining on her apprenticeship before she magically bonds with the city itself. We still know virtually nothing about Ambrose or Bishop and fully nothing about Anca, Reece, or Milo. The rather sudden twist of book 4 that transformed a close ally into a villain is barely mentioned, begging the question; what purpose does book 4 have in the greater context of the series? It read like a non sequitur at the time and feels even more disconnected now.

Much like book 6 or TBTGN, book 5 of POA crams more information into a single book than it can reasonably hold. The Faraday is under siege and it happens entirely off book. Midas’s undefined time in Faerie is told in a handful of flashbacks just like the abuse Hadley suffered at the hands of her mother are told entirely in hints, despite book 5 taking place in Faerie and Hadley’s mother appearing in book 4. Part of what makes these characters work is that they have complicated histories that continue to influence their present, but Ms. Edwards flinched away from bringing these issues into the light.

I’ve mentioned it before, but it bears repeating that the epilogues of TBGTN make even less sense after reading the full POA series. If Hadley and Midas are mated and likely married, why would they avoid one another at Grier and Linus’s wedding? Why wouldn’t they have come to Grier’s baby shower?

As it is, the answers provided in this final book simply raise more questions.

These are awesome! My (almost) 4 year old received these for Christmas. The pieces are large and colorful. The booklet gave some great starting points for building cute creations, and we enjoyed building them. I only knocked a star off for two little complaints. First, the pieces are hard to put/keep together. My 10 and 7 year old could do it alone, but my daughter (who's close enough to 4 to be considered in the target age range for this product) needed my help to build with these. Some pieces stay connected well, but some are too loose and fall out, while some were tight and have a little too much resistance for the preschool crowd. The other is that even with almost 100 pieces, we basically had to take every creation apart before we could build anything else. There were plenty of striped sticks, but not enough of the other pieces. It would almost take two sets to really be able to build, and certainly for two children to enjoy building at the same time. Otherwise, they are super cute and we're happy with the set.
