Warren Buffett: A Biography of the most Intelligent Businessman Ever
Warren Buffett: A Biography of the most Intelligent Businessman Ever
This short booklet is rather article.

The content is a bit chaotic, and poorly researched. There could be much more interesting thing written about Warren Buffet. Instead there are some generalities.

I am afraid that you can find better written and more valuable Warren Buffet's biography on Wiki - for free.

As you can see the author had written a number of articles on various topics - from JFK, Holocaust through Ancient Egypt, and nearly all of those articles are rated 1* due to poor research, grammar and writing. This should answer a question if this booklet is worth buying.

The booklet is worth 1*. The second is because I got it for free - for free I just don't like it (2*), but if I had spend money on this - I would hate it and give it 1*.
The People Vs Tech: How the Internet Is Killing Democracy (and How We Save It)
The People Vs Tech: How the Internet Is Killing Democracy (and How We Save It)
There is presently a glut of books being published on the threats to liberal democracy: post-truth demagoguery, populism, self-serving elites, identity politics, globalisation, growing inequality, etc. Bartlett’s argument is that it is digital technology, if it should continue on its current trajectory, which is one of the major culprits.

Social media is based on the model of a free service in exchange for advertising. To maximise their pay-off, adverts are ever more individually targeted, by collecting ever more data about users and analysing them with ever more sophisticated software. But the same knowledge, which increasingly outstrips our self-knowledge, can also be used to manipulate us with political messages. Driven into echo-chambers and aggressively tribal, we are undermining a crucial pillar of democracy: a common forum of debate, where a diversity of views is heard, others are respected, and compromise is possible.

As for the tech firms themselves, they are likely to gain in power. The specific characteristic of network effects (the bigger the network, the better it is) encourages the formation of monopolies – Google for searches, Facebook for social networks, Amazon for buying things, and so on. This means more than just economic power, to crush competitors or else buy them out. And it means more than money to lobby governments and influence legislation. It increasingly also means ideological power: to make people and politicians see the world as they do - with the possible result of a few companies ending up controlling the technology for a totally networked planet, an artificial intelligence platform governing everything from manufacturing to healthcare to functions of government itself – and everyone being happy with it.

Increasingly intelligent technology grows productivity. But the spoils are more likely to accrue to its owners: This will further exacerbate inequality, with a large number of low-paid workers serving a rich technology elite. Which, in turn, will lower the tax base, since the poor cannot pay tax and the rich can often avoid paying it. Such inequality, and the consequent inability to fund public services, could have grave political consequences. Many may come to conclude that liberal democracy, or even democracy itself, is incapable of solving our social problems, and opt instead for authoritarians to re-impose control. If there is the threat of illiberal democracy or worse, there is also, however, the threat of undemocratic liberty. Encryption and block-chain technology in particular have made possible currencies, markets and networks that are anonymous and beyond state control. Crypto-anarchists envision a world with no states and individuals with no social obligations; even if this extreme should not come to pass, the severe weakening of state power could lead to a dystopian breakdown of civil society.

How likely is all this? As Bartlett remarks, new technologies bring with them a set of values all of their own. The technically possible becomes the desirable, then the inevitable. Technologies do nothing less than transform culture. So it was with the information revolution brought about by the printing press, the shrinking not only of physical but also psychological space by the railways, and the building of so much of our lives around the motorcar. And all too often, technological development has outrun our ability to harness it as a means for human betterment, dominating and threatening us instead. (The H-bomb is perhaps the most egregious example.) Digital dependency is already widespread – one need only witness countless smartphone addicts – and a life off-line already next to impossible. How else now could we communicate, shop, travel, or bank?

The author ends with twenty recommendations to make digital technology serve the public good and thus give liberal democracy a chance to survive. He has written a well-informed and very timely book, one that deserves to be read by every citizen concerned with not sleep-walking into a digital disaster.

(A note on production: The cover of the paperback is a sort of rough white cardboard. After just one read, it was dirty and considerably worse for wear. I hope future print-runs will fix this problem and choose a better-suited material.)
Slaying Goliath: The Passionate Resistance to Privatization and the Fight to Save America's Public Schools
Slaying Goliath: The Passionate Resistance to Privatization and the Fight to Save America's Public Schools
Diane Ravitch’s book is a powerful weapon describing the fight between David, representing the resistors—the advocates of public schools, and the corporate Goliath, the disruptors—advocates of privatized education. I’ve learned a lot from this beautifully written and engaging discussion about the rise and fall of the disruptors and hopeful victory of the resistors. But I missed a satisfactory explanation of the underlying cause of this struggle.

In telling this story Diane Ravitch rightly points out: 1) that the root cause of low performing schools is poverty, and 2) unlike the earlier rich who wanted to reform and improve the public schools, the new wealthy disruptors (Goliaths) don’t trust the public sector which includes “government schools” and they don’t trust local control, so they use philanthropy and the promotion of charter schools as devices to control under the guise of helping and 3) for the disruptors profits are more important than students.

In addition to the above three points Ravitch poses, what I believe the central question of the book on page 140 “Why were the billionaires so eager to open charter schools whose results were not different from those of public schools and for which there was very little demand? Why not put their millions into fighting for better funding for public schools, where the vast majority of students are?” but she never really answers her question. Instead, she left me with inciteful stories of the fight between David and Goliath. I was hoping for an answer that also pointed to the underlying cause of the battle—the economy.

What’s missing in this analysis is the sinister C-word (capitalism) the privatizing, isolating, profit-maximizing engine and creator of vast inequality that sets the stage for the battle between Goliath and David. We need a chapter on the relationship between capitalism and public education. Despite the excellent stories “Slaying Goliath” in uncritically accepting capitalism as the norm will only propose reforms that will eventually fail as did the new deal.

By approaching problems with schooling through an analysis of capitalism resistors will be able to act more effectively in their battle with Goliath, for they will see: 1) where poverty comes from (the class struggle and growing inequality) and 2) how Goliath, in his frenzy for profit and growth considers schooling to be a training ground for compliant workers and consumers 3) why Goliath has grown so powerful and can influence education, the economy, and government through lobbying and control of the media.

Sams Teach Yourself Java in 21 Days Eighth Edition
Sams Teach Yourself Java in 21 Days Eighth Edition
I thought that after five editions and some really nice comments I was in for a pretty good book. No way. In addition to the problems mentioned by PMD1973 there's a lot of code in examples that are not explained and the language is often unclear and apparently contradictory.

"A variable or method declared without an access control modifier is available to any other class in the same package. The Java Class Library is organized into packages such as javax.swing, which is windowing classes for use primarily in graphical user interface programming, and java.util, a useful group of utility classes.

Any variable declared without a modifier can be read or changed by any other class in the same package. Any method declared the same way can be called by any other class in the same package. No other classes can access these elements in any way."

Perhaps using a Kindle instead of an emulator would solve technical problems then one would only have to deal with the language problems that might be solved with significant editing.
Jordan The 10: Air 1 Off-White Mens
Jordan The 10: Air 1 Off-White Mens
Off white is one of the most well known and respected streetwear brands. They compete with supreme and other high-end streetwear companies. With this, it makes sense that they would collaborate with the most important and most recognizable shoe, the Jordan 1's. This shoe has a high price point due to its collaboration with offwhite. In terms of importance, this shoe is low. It does have a red and white colorway, but its respect in the game is low. It is just a pricey shoe, that tries to gain extra clout by the collaboration, not in looking at the shoe design, colorway, and importance. If one has the money to buy this shoe and wants to flaunt their wealth, this is the shoe for them. However, if someone cares about shoe culture, and the importance of Jordans' there are many other shoes to buy with the same amount of money. Jordans' are some of the most influential shoes. They were created specifically by Nike to target the ghettos and black kids who watched basketball and targetted them as the market. That has expanded, and now these shoes are for anybody. However, the practice of selling and distribution is still in play by Nike. The reason the recent court couples or royal blues are doing so well is that they are reasonably priced, at about $170 retail, and have important colorways that people recognize and respect. These shoes are sold in limited quantities, and the market comes from the reselling and trading of shoes. This is what makes the shoe valuable and popular, not an expensive price tag and a collaboration with a company. These shoes are too expensive, and will not gain the respect they need to become valuable shoes, because they try to skip the steps that make a shoe important.

Sinister
Sinister
I'll echo a lot of the other reviewers - it started out with great promise, then tanked hard. I'm not giving away spoilers because the movie shines and subsequently ruins itself within like the first 20 minutes. It's pretty disappointing. Basically, a writer moves his family into a home where the previous family was brutally killed. It's an unsolved case. He soon discovers a box of "home movies" left deliberately in the attic. To his shock, they are snuff films of this murder and several other family murders. He plays the movies and... wow. They are highly disturbing; the hair stood up on the back of my neck with that awful music. I was hooked. I love horror movies and it is so rare to find one these days that is legitimately scary. I thought, "this is gonna be epic."

Unfortunately, the movie peaks there and the writers phone it in for the rest. He notices what looks to be the murderer in one of the shots, who apparently is someone wearing a mask from the Scream movie. So utterly stupid. I guess they could have continued along this supernatural vein had they used a lot of subtlety, to draw the audience in and be convincing - but NO. They overwhelm the movie with a lot of seriously cheesy CGI and horribly bad makeup of ghosts/demons. It's just so bad, like something you'd see from high school amateurs doing a film project. It's also what we have seen SO many times from other typically lower budget, cheap thrill horror movies. But this one has Ethan Hawke, and a very promising setup - what a waste! It's tiresome, unoriginal, stupid, not scary. You go from feeling totally creeped out watching Sinister to rolling your eyes and saying, "really?" I'm not sure why they started off with a bang and just stopped caring completely. I heard that this movie was inspired by The Ring - which is an insult to The Ring.

Know what would have been really scary? If there was nothing supernatural going on at all, and a serial killer was supplying a writer with graphic videos of his kills for his new book, or to simply terrorize him. If I asked you what would be scarier, if you imagined yourself in the position of the main character who is noticing shady stuff going on - that realistic premise about a serial killer toying with you or this ludicrous supernatural explanation - you would pick that premise, because if you explain this movie to someone it is so stupid and laughable. They could have introduced a supernatural element that wasn't so obviously lazy and dumbed down for the audience. This is more challenging to execute, but it pays off when it's done well. They could have done so much more with this movie than play around with awful special effects and resort to stupid cliches, especially when it came to who do it (you'll know what I mean - ugh!!!) None of it was believable or scary. You need one of those to be a horror movie. I wish someone could use the first 20 minutes of the plot and take it somewhere worthwhile. It could have been great.
Ultimate Spider-Man Season 2
Ultimate Spider-Man Season 2
Well this show is different. It would be really cool if they could make a movie with all the super heroes mixed in together with the SHIELD group. Like adding the fantastic 4, and some of the other heroes from other movies that are part of the Marvel collection. It would be really cool to see them all on one movie together working as a team, with Capt. America, Iron Man, Hulk, etc. Having them all on together would be cool. Like AquaMan, and maybe even Batman, and wonderwoman, just to name a few that would be a nice touch. But never know when they'd or if they'd do it.

My head fits very well, but the straps were hard to reach because my chin is too wide. Was hoping for a perfect fit with the helmet and strap but yea.

UPDATE: I decided to make an extension. I put an extra strap by adding a velcro so that way it could fit my chin. I never thought I was so crafty but I manage to do it. This came out perfect. Thank you.
TableTop, Season 1 (Uncensored)
TableTop, Season 1 (Uncensored)
I adore this show so much! I watched it when it was new on the Geek & Sundry's youtube channel, and I've to say, like a fine wine, it improves with time. Not to mention that lack of censorship, which I am of two minds about: on one hand I don't believe casual swearing (that is swearing that is "F* this" instead of aggressive "F* you!") should be censored, on the other hand I think sometimes the bleeps are funnier than the swears.* It might sound silly, but I am just so happy that like The Guild, Wil's show is getting the "legit show" treatment of larger platform distribution. I've learned so much about games and gaming from Wil and his friends and family and I hope you do too.
Remember folks, Play More Games!

*A great example of this is the short lived show Middleman, were the main character swears just as much as any "young, photogenic artistic type" but they bleep it out and let the audience's imagination run wild with what exactly Wendy is saying. Her boss's shocked horror is also priceless.
Ride

After I'm done writing this review I probably will forget even the name of this movie. The acting is good, so I didnt feel annoyed by it. The plot was the problem. It just doesnt give enough probable cause for the whole foul play. It just doesnt make sense why it all happened with the people who got involved. It didnt have enough explanation or depth. It just out of the blue they are in this terrible situation and the way they manage the end it was just as shallow as the way they got in the first place. Sorry, I now this review sound also vague and shallow, but I just dont like to spoil anything. This is definitely a movie you should not pay to watch it. Is just not worth it. But I like the "category" of the movie: Pshyco guy kidnaps the pretty girl and pretty boy and they need to fight their way out of that. It just was not interesting enough for my taste.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2
RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2
This show is a go-to happymaker among a sea of dastardly and cynical reality-show offerings and a constant barrage of tragedies on the news. If you've got to watch mindless television, RuPaul's Drag Race is fun, progressive, and entirely innocuous. I was never particularly a fan of RuPaul Charles's before this show primarily because I was generally unfamiliar with him and the art-performance of drag. This show has not only endeared me to RuPaul's creativity, but has also showcased that underneath the clothes (male or female) and inches of makeup, he's actually a font of innate and experience-based wisdom who absolutely deserves a platform to make his voice heard.
Sackett - The Louis L'amour Collection
Sackett - The Louis L'amour Collection
Years ago I read many of Louis Lamour's Western books.INMO he was one of the best Western writers. His characters are fantastically described as well as the scenery and the entire western environment.

Sackett was one of his better books. The book is action packed and fast reading. I read it in 1/2 day. I'll just tell a little of the story to get your interest.

William Tell Sackett was a 6ft 4in, mountain man, ex union solder and trail cowboy. In this book we meet his brothers and his mom. The brothers have made a great life for themselves, their wives and taking good care of their mom. Tell believes he is just a cowboy, good with a rifle and six gun and living off the land but has not done anything great. Later he finds a rich gold mother lode and a sick feverish young woman named Ange near the gold mine. Her Grandpa had died taking her prospecting to find the mine.

Tell makes friends with an older man named Cap and together they plan a town near their goldmine claim. Other man try to steal the mine and take the town and Tell must fight with his guns.

Here is a man that only wanted peace and maybe a small ranch and to find a good woman. However he must fight again and again. Later in a saloon he has a gunfight with a big mean man named Bigalow and .... ( read for yourself)

Tell saves the life of a man with a broken leg in a savage, brutal winter storm in the mountains ( a man who wants to kill him and Angie). What a story! Tell what a man!

I wont ruin the great ending. This book is recommended for anyone loving the wild west and to start reading the Sackett series. Louise Lamour my best western author. Bought and read this book again for our family library. 5 stars.
The Louis L'Amour Companion
The Louis L'Amour Companion
"The best-selling western writer of all time"
"has two books, Flint and Hondo, in the best 25 westerns of all time"

Let's get a few things said at the beginning: I am a Louis L'Amour reader have been for some time now, I also have most of his writings in the hardcover Bantam Library editions. I also think he wrote very good, sometimes excellent books. But no, I do not feel as the author of this companion feels that Louis L'Amour was the best western writer ever. Also in lieu of the other two reviews here, this book is very much for his fans, and no, definitely No, this book should not be skipped, IT IS VERY MUCH FOR HIS FANS.

Further this is not a book written by Louis L'Amour, nor is it a book detailing his books, such as the Sackett Companion does, nor is it a strict chronological listing of his works. Let's see have I missed anything, well probably so but if so we'll try to sort more through it as we go along. If you enjoy any writing by L'Amour, this book will certainly have something in it of interest to you. (Even the book tells his family name could be spelled as "LaMoore" at some long ago distant time. Interesting)

The book has several sections or chapters as will quickly be seen. The book has a complete chronology of not only his books and novels but also of his life. You would kinda expect that in a companion volume. However, the book also goes beyond the biographical details having out-of-print articles, interviews, and written, personal recollections from other authors, such as Ed Gorman, and Jon Tuska, as well as several other writers. There is also a short section of letters by L'Amour from his time in service during World War II. There are also a couple interviews with Louis L'Amour. I cannot imagine that the 'true' fan of L'Amour's writings will want to shun this book. If one does not read it cover-to-cover as one of Louis' westerns just leafing through picking sections which stand out will more than serve the book's purpose and usefulness.

I bought a couple copies of this paperback in '94 when it came out, lost them in a move from Ohio to Virginia a few year back, and just today found a copy at our local Goodwill. I am thankful that I now have a copy back on the shelves with the rest of L'Amour's writings. In fact other than Louis' own autobiographical writings this is the only compendium I have of this type. I do so because of the various material within the book.

In closing you may remember I said I could not say Louis L'Amour, for all his greatness, was the 'best' of the western field, well that is mainly due to my having hundreds, possibly thousands of westerns fiction and non-fiction on my home library shelves. I have western books and writings for instance by Frank Bonham, Luke Short, Ray Hogan, Ralph Cotton, Fred Grove, Robert Randisi, and Frank O'Rourke among many many many others. To say that Louis L'Amour was the greatest would be almost like saying Babe Ruth was the best of all time in baseball. Clearly not possible nor is it true. Louis was and will forever remain as the British often say, a first among equals.

But Louis L'Amour fans should not avoid this book, you do so at your own loss. And a loss at a better understanding of the man and writer, it will be.

Mirage
Mirage
When you reach the end of any Kindle book you are expected, there and then, to award stars for what you have just read. As a rule I will give an enjoyable work of fiction 4 stars. Later, when considering the book's merit further, one sometimes spots a weakness in the story or in the author's general argument.and want to revise.

This story starts after The Six Day War when Israel faced a combined attack by forces of neighboring Arab countries which had it been successful would have been the end of that country. In the last moments of the War,the pilot of a Mirage fighter is shot down and suffers serious injury to his foot. He is unfit to fly and is sent to London to work for the National Isreali airline. An intelligent but unconventional American girl is persuaded by a shadowy American figure to discover what he is doing and it just so happens he's trying to find a way of obtaining the drawings for the Mirage fighter currently in service with the Israeli Airforce.

Whilst the story is credible you tend to read it as fiction, however well written, because that is what it is, Disbelief is suspended, at least until something arises to change that state of mind. And that did not happen prior to the end. So it got 5 stars for being an enjoyable and exciting read.

There was a small resume of events prior to the ending which was a mix of fact and fiction which added further enjoyment and credibility

So, now that I 've had time to reflect and consider, do I want to mark it as a 4? No,it was a good read and informative about events about which I knew little.

Hope you enjoy this excellent story!

The Life of Ian Fleming (Bloomsbury Reader)
The Life of Ian Fleming (Bloomsbury Reader)
Whether or not you are a James Bond fan, the author Ian Fleming is a man of fascinating complexities. John Pearson's portrait presents Ian Fleming in all of his facets... some objectionable and many admirable. He was born to a family of tradition, one that he continually tried to rebel against. While his mother tried to find schools and professions suitable to her younger son's future, he lived life on his own terms. Mr. Pearson portrays him as a handsome, bored and at times depressed man who escaped into his dreams. And when he found a career he enjoyed as part of England's secret service, Ian Fleming came into his own and with the creation of James bond, the man and his hero merge.
Too Many Women (A Nero Wolfe Mystery Book 12)
Too Many Women (A Nero Wolfe Mystery Book 12)
This is a fun book that has a good plot and also does a good job of developing the characters. It is undeniably sexist, but I take that with a grain of salt because the book was written so many decades ago. Some people would consider the solution to the murder fairly obvious, but it's still a fun read, and some people wouldn't. This is the only book I know if where Archie tries to work undercover, and the results are interesting. There is some good comic relief in the book, and the background story is really good. One of the better Nero Wolfe books. I think you'd enjoy reading it. The only shame is that the women involved are seen as if they only exist as some kind of meat market, and Archie even mentions (more than once) that with one of the characters, she wasn't beautiful, but he could make her beautiful or she could be beautiful just to him. Part of the plot also involves telling a woman something because of the assumption that all women gossip. There's never a discussion of whether the men gossip, or a statement to the effect that gossip has nothing to do with gender and women are not gossips just because they are women. Archie also acts as if one floor of the office is some kind of Eden, because it's all women typists, etc., so he can simply look around and be surrounded by good-looking women, for the most part. He is also always careful to mention when he doesn't consider a woman good-looking, and will even do things like making a seating arranging in the office, where he's close to his definition of an attractive woman and far away from women he considers unattractive, and he's called women everything from dolls to crones.

However, I take all of this with a grain of salt, because this book was written many decades ago, so I try to just look to the book, itself. If you do that, I think you'll find a highly enjoyable book.
Gideon's Fire: (Writing as JJ Marric) (Gideon of Scotland Yard)
Gideon's Fire: (Writing as JJ Marric) (Gideon of Scotland Yard)
In 1959 while visiting London for the first time, I discovered John Creasey's mystery series featuring "The Toff". Recently, I read a review of GIDEON'S FIRE (ISBN 0755114043, trade paperback, $14.95) by Creasey and bought a copy through my local Indie bookstore. John Creasey published more than 600 books using 28 pseudonyms including J.J. Marric who was originally listed as the author of GIDEON'S FIRE (an Edgar Award winner). Creasey died in 1973 so no new titles will be coming (I think). He wrote many Britain based mystery series as well as westerns and romances.

George Gideon works in New Scotland Yard as the Commander of the Criminal Investigation Department. In this book, there are several story lines to be followed - serial arson (murder included), stock fraud, a serial murderer and a rapist/murderer. Gideon does not solve the crimes himself but directs various members of his department in the investigations. For the most part, we know who the criminals are but watching how Gideon and his staff find them is intriguing.

Gideon is human, too, having a wife and kids. He deals with family issues while doing his job as well. The characters are wonderful. The good guys could be your friends. The bad guys are really bad but not necessarily evil (some are). You get a great picture of London in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Gideon is using the technology available at that time - no computers, no cell phones (two-way car radios instead), telephones (including phone booths with working phones), newspapers, radio and television.

Ata-Boy Harry Potter Houses of Hogwarts Crests Set of 4 1" Magnetic Page-Top Bookmarks
Ata-Boy Harry Potter Houses of Hogwarts Crests Set of 4 1" Magnetic Page-Top Bookmarks
The novelty of using a magnetic book mark is the crux of this item - you can certainly use a napkin, strip of paper, receipt to save your place, but this is so much more fun. Doesn't hurt the page, holds tightly, very cool and unusual item. Ordered twice, and the second time got the cartoon version of the pictures - but after sending it back, the correct item was sent.

The Noble Collection NOB6314 Harry Potter Collectible, Standard
I read through the other reviews before buying the 'Hermione' wand for a friend's 8 year old and I would say that - for the price - this is just right for Harry Potter fans of that age group; decent weight and sturdy (not at all insubstantial), good detail on the wand and nice packaging to give as a present (as opposed to a 'presentation box') with an additional holographic bookmark. Made of PVC, can't imagine it breaking if you just drop it and it should last - unless used to hammer things with!

Unofficial Magical Drafts and Potions: Unofficial Encyclopedia of the Wizarding World - Volume 2
My 7 year old and I are massive Harry Potter fans and son was desperate for a potions book. I must say I was pretty disappointed by this book. Frankly, it's something I could have whipped up in a week whilst doing my A levels. It's okay, minimal to moderate details of main HP mentioned potions but you'd get equal or more details from a wiki page. The layout and formatting is pretty plain too. I think the main issue is at £12.94 it's just overpriced. I'm comparing it to something the Unofficial Harry Potter wizards spell book which I picked up in the Works for £5.99 down to £3 which has similar detail but nicer layout. I did want to try returning it but my son wants it for his collection... Okay but needs to be at least half the price.
The Tree of Knowledge
The Tree of Knowledge
"The Tree of Knowledge" is truly a story ahead of its time! (Or is it behind?) I was intrigued that this author chose to set this mystical tale in Pangea... before the world was torn apart to become what we know it today. Having that set the stage for the out-of-this-world adventures that take place was a brilliant move and really gives a bit of familiarity to an otherwise "Harry Potter"-esque tale! If you're a Rowling fan you will certainly become a Streich fan too.

This novel is beautifully written, intriguing, and much-needed in your collection. Finding out that this is Streich's first novel will surprise you, as he writes much like your favorite well-known and best selling authors. I hope to read many more of his novels in the future!

ODOSOLA Cell Phone Stand, Newly-Upgraded Angle/Height Adjustable Mobile Phone Holder for Desk Home, 4-11'' Eye-Level Aluminum iPad Stand Holders Compatible with iPhone iPad Kindle(Silver)
Purchased this tablet/phone stand to hold a second monitor for distance learning. The metal is sturdy and the base is heavy which gives the tablet a good support so it doesn't tip over. The top part is easily adjustable to tilt the holder backwards to a comfortable viewing level.

I liked that the height is adjustable to about a little over 10 inches from the base to the bottom of the tablet/phone holder. It is adjustable to any height lower than that depending on what height you'll need it to be.

Overall, a very good product except for the knob to adjust the height which can sometimes get loose and cause it to lower a little bit. This can be easily fixed by using a tool to tighten it rather than just handtightening it.

You never know when you buy things like this online. I've made the mistake of doing a few purchases on Wish.com and "wish" I hadn't like the quality as terrible, not even worth the 7 bucks I'd paid including shipping. THESE, however, ARE worth the price and I was happy to see that the reviews were correct. Small but sturdy, these devices position at various angles to hold your small devices in whatever viewpoint is good for you at the time, like phones and tablets (NO, NOT it won't accommodate your 12" LAPTOP, NOT THAT STURDY, LOL) They really do fit in a purse or handbag or any type of guys bag too. Yes, I'm a guy and I carry a bag, the digital age changed that, too many devices to carry around that don't fit in our Levis!
Chuckit Dog Ball
Chuckit Dog Ball
If your dog is tough on balls, THIS IS THE ONE you've been looking for! One of my Dachshunds is obsessed with playing fetch. Even at nearly 12 years old, she still plays for 1-2 hours per day, and she was going through balls like crazy. I had tried all kinds of balls, and even with supervised play, she was destroying one or two balls EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I was skeptical at first that these would be any different from the other balls I have tried throughout her life. I've tried so many, and they were either destroyed within a day, or she didn't like them. But she LOVES these Chuckit! balls, and she hasn't managed to put a single mark on one yet!

I just can't believe how perfect these balls are. They bounce, they're easily washed off if they get covered in slime/dirt/sand/whatever, and they're not porous, so they don't absorb anything gross. They're nice and firm, but not hard, and they have some give, so I don't have to worry about her teeth. Most importantly, they're SO tough! I have been using the same ball for two months, and it still looks exactly like it did when I took it out of the package, even though it's been played with for well over 100 hours since then. Two months might not seem like a long time, but I used to consider myself lucky if a ball lasted just ONE DAY, so two months seems like forever to me. I also love that they come in all different sizes. Finding a truly sturdy ball for a small dog is not easy! They tend to be really flimsy. The makers of those flimsy balls haven't met my dog and her jaws of steel. But these Chuckit! balls fit perfectly in her mouth, and are every bit as tough and sturdy as the balls for bigger dogs.

I just wish I had found these years ago. They would have saved me a lot of money and frustration! I know, I sound like a crazy person, getting so excited about dog balls, but I have been looking for the perfect ball for more than 10 years, and I've FINALLY FOUND IT!

40 Inch Giant Gold Number 3 Balloon,Foil Helium Digital Balloons for Birthday Anniversary Party Festival Decorations
I was reading some reviews and was nervous to purchase because some said theirs did not inflate, and that has happened to me before. These balloons were great!! They’re pretty big, so of course it took a little while to blow up, but they stayed inflated for at least 15 days and I could have left them up longer but they were getting in my way. I thought they were a little pricey, but once again they lasted for a great amount of time.
Supercar Coloring Book: A Collection of Amazing Sport and Supercar Designs for Kids
Supercar Coloring Book: A Collection of Amazing Sport and Supercar Designs for Kids
Quite disappointed with the book and I think the title is very misleading! Only half the book is of cars, the other half is very different with unicorns etc. Almost as if one half is for boys, the other is for girls which won't go down too well with the young man its for! It does mention there are pages from their other colouring books int the back but I expected these to be at least aimed at boys or car related due to the title. There should be more detail given about these other pages as I would never have bought it if I had known these other pages would not be car themed.

Aeoss 10Pcs Open Pry Screwdriver Repair Tool Kit Set For Apple Products
Managed to open my Mi phone and fix a loose front camera connector with these tools.

The tip of the plastic picks kind of frays when you press/scrape with it too hard, but it works and didn't break. Screwdrivers and suction tool are great.

Glad to have been to able to avoid a trip to the service center during COVID and also saved the time and money that they would have charged.

Many tutorials on YouTube and ifixit to fix common issues with your phone. I hope many people realize they can fix their phone on their own
Amazon Basics Big & Tall Executive Computer Desk Chair, Brown with Pewter Finish
Amazon Basics Big & Tall Executive Computer Desk Chair, Brown with Pewter Finish
WOW! Just WOW!! I'm seriously impressed with this chair, so far.

I'm 6' and 250 lbs, I spend 60 - 80+ hours a week at my desk in a chair. I've had some good chairs that I've paid a lot of money for and I've had some poor chairs I've paid a lot of money for too. This is the first really good chair I didn't have to pay a lot of money for.

The engineering in this chair is first rate. Putting it together it's obvious that it is meant to withstand some punishment. The metal hardware is significantly beefier than my last chair (Which was a Serta Big and Tall and lasted 2.5 years before failing totally). The struts that comprise the arms and hold the back to the seat are massive for a desk chair. The gas strut actually stays where I put it and doesn't leak down giving me that sinking feeling every time I lean back. The lumbar support is a plus and it is infinitely adjustable from nothing to a fairly good lumbar bulge.

The seat padding is very firm, of course it's meant to withstand a hundred pounds more than I'm putting on it so I guess that's understandable. It's not so firm that it's uncomfortable but compared to my last chair it's very noticeably more firm. The arm rests are well padded and larger than my last chair.

The castors roll very easily, maybe even a little too easily because the chair tends to want to scoot away from me if I'm not careful as I sit. The chair rolls on a chair mat on a tile floor silently.

I'm about 2/3rds the capacity of this chair so I maybe didn't need a "big and tall" model but I bought it because I tear up chairs. I figured that this would be sturdier than a standard chair and it certainly appears that's the case. In my way of thinking a sturdier chair should last longer, though there's no way to know that yet and if not ... Just like my LAST chair I'll come back here and update my review as time goes on. My last chair started out at 5 stars too, it was great when it was new but it didn't make it three years and that review is now one star.

I'm of the opinion that a quality, well made chair should last 5 or more years before it fails. I don't mean before it starts showing wear, I don't give a fig what it looks like when it's 5 years old as long as it's still comfortable and serviceable. It's nice having a pretty new chair but the esthetics are irrelevant to me after a reasonable period of time. Things are going to wear, they should not wear prematurely but if they wear over time that's to be expected. When I say a chair "fails" I mean it is no longer serviceable because it is BROKEN and unusable.

I'd been looking at this chair for quite a while, it's been in my Wish List for months. I had determined that this was the next chair I was buying when the one I had became unserviceable. It came up on an Amazon Deal for significantly less than the listed price so I decided to go for it, the old chair was on its last gasp anyway. I wish I had gotten it sooner (though not that I'd had to pay more for it) because I was holding on to the old one trying to squeeze every month out of it I could get. I should have bought this chair sooner but as chance would have it all's well that ends well.

There was a hole in the box when the chair was delivered but there was no damage to the chair itself. It was very easy to follow the instructions and assemble the chair. I use a socket and ratchet to tighten up the bolts because it's been my experience that if those fasteners are not as tight as they can be without stripping then the chair will loosen up and fail sooner than it would have if those bolts were good and tight. If you get them snugged up good and tight there's no slop and no play in the assembly to allow things to get out of dimension and fail.

This is Bonded Leather, not top grain cowhide leather. Most such chairs are Bonded Leather. If you don't know what that is you should look it up. It's a leather product made by dissolving the connective tissue in leather, extracting the fibers, then bonding the fibers to cloth making a sheet of dimension material for upholstery, book binding, etc. You should care for Bonded Leather the same way you care for any other leather, it is actually organic leather material. Before I put the chair into service I wiped it down good with Pecards Leather Dressing and after that sat for a few minutes in I used a leather sealer to be sure my new chair and I got started on the right foot. This moisturizes the leather but also decreases friction and keeps dust and dirt out. Friction and the cutting/grinding action of dirt and dust cause accelerated wear so if you want your chair to last you should clean it and treat it about once a month. (Don't soak your chair in leather conditioner, less is more when it comes to conditioners.) Clean and treat more often in dirtier environments like warehouses and such. The best time to do that is as you leave your desk and chair for the day so it can penetrate over night.

Note that I am NOT saying that Bonded Leather is just as good as top or full grain genuine leather. It most certainly is not. If you want full grain leather you shouldn't even be looking at chairs in this price range. IF you think you got full grain leather on a chair in this price range you didn't, sorry. One of the main things that cause deterioration and failure of Bonded Leather is letting the leather fibers dry out, this makes them lose their adhesion to their backing material, crack and flake off. That is going to happen eventually to pretty much all bonded leather but you can stave off that eventuality somewhat by proper care and treatment with a decent conditioner.

I'm seriously impressed and happy with this chair. If that changes have no doubt I will absolutely say something about it.

A NOTE ABOUT "NOISY" CHAIRS-
The chair I have is silent. It makes absolutely no noise at all. While it's possible I got lucky and that production values and quality control on these chairs is hit-or-miss ... It's more likely that I put my chair together differently than people who are having noise, wobble/wiggle and stability issues.

I never use the hex key that comes with chairs requiring assembly. I can't get sufficient torque on the bolts that fasten the chair together with the included hex key. I use a socket and ratchet wrench set to assemble chairs and have done so for years. This chair uses 1/2 inch bolt heads (if I'm remembering right, or they might be 7/16ths) so I crank those bolts down pretty hard. To avoid stripping them I "choke up' on the ratchet holding it closer to the ratchet head than farther out along the handle. You can put too much torque on almost any bolt and that will destroy your chair, so you need to be careful.

That spot of blue looking plastic stuff on the bolts is thread locker. It locks the bolts in place once they're tightened down. I don't know what brand or characteristics the thread locker on these is. Some, most thread lockers are activated by pressure and heat. It's possible that the bolt is now locked in place and will only tighten with significant force applied. If you try to tighten up your bolts as per my advice then first break them loose by turning them a quarter to a half turn OUT before you try to turn them back in to tighten. That will break the thread locker loose in a safe direction and allow you to snug the bolt down tight as it needs to be. The thread locker with then re-lock the threads because you have put more pressure on it than it had before.

The fact that the manufacturer includes thread locker on the bolts tells you a couple things. It means they're aware that loose bolts are a problem. They have no control over how much torque you apply to the bolts so this is all they can do in that regard, except maybe send a better tool than a hex key. It also means that they're conscientious enough about quality and customer satisfaction to put thread locker on the threads for increased positive customer experience.

Update:
It's July 2019 and I've had this chair now for 1 year and 7 months. I've replaced the gas strut lift cylinder and just now replaced the base plate where the chair attaches to the lift cylinder and star legs. The base plate is the part that bolts to the bottom of the chair and has the tension adjuster for leaning back and the lock/lift control lever for raising and lowering it.

So now this chair has cost me the price I paid for it on sale plus another $60 +/-, which brings the cost to me up to about what the regular price of the chair is. Which still isn't bad and I only took a single star off of my initial review.

The chair itself is still almost like brand new with just a little flaking of the bonded leather on front sides of the arm rests. That's no big deal to me. The seat and back are holding together very well with no rips, tears or worn spots and the cushioning is still as good as the day I bought the chair. It still looks very nice except for that minor flaking on the arm rest covers and a spot on the front support of the right arm rest where the pocket clip on my pocket knife abrades the silver coloring and has worn it down to black plastic. The pocket knife damage isn't the chair's fault, it's mine.

The lift cylinder died the way they all seem to, it would not hold its setting and slowly sank to the lowest position. That happened about a year into owning the chair. I replaced it with one that is a little bit longer and the new one places the seat at exactly the right height when the seat is in its lower most position. Which means I'm not really using the gas strut at all unless I want it to sit up higher for some reason, which is rare.

The base plate failed at the same place they all seem to. There's a pivot pin in front of the lift control and behind the tension control, the thing you tighten or loosen to make the chair lean back. That pivot pin is where the chair pivots to lean back and is the actual point of attachment between the chair itself and the base plate/lift cylinder/legs. That's the part that takes ALL the strain of having your bottom in the chair and moving around, leaning back, side-to-side torque, etc. The bushing around that pivot pin broke causing a definite lean and wobble with the seat. A gap of 1/8th inch at the center of the chair translates to about an inch and a half or two inches of drop at the outside edge of the chair and that was unacceptable. I probably could have lived with it anyway but I decided to replace that part with an even heavier and sturdier after market base plate. Which I will review when it has been on the chair for a while.

Because the seat has held up so well and because the chair is made with standardized parts that allow me to make repairs and do replacements while keeping the comfortable, serviceable seat and backrest instead of buying a whole new chair -- I only took one star off of my 5 star review. I'm trying to be fair because I know I'm really, really hard on chairs. Most people who use a chair in an office environment are not going to be nearly so demanding of a chair as I am.

It is extremely hard for me to find a good chair that will last more than a couple of years. I'm very happy that I can fix this one rather than replace the whole thing. I got this chair at a very good price so I do not mind the minor-to-medium extra expense of buying replacement parts now and then. I replaced the failed parts with hardware better suited to the torture I put a chair through which means that now I have, for the price of some parts, what amounts to a brand new chair that should last me even longer than the original parts allowed.

All of that said, the original parts failed sooner than I expected them to for a "Big and Tall" chair so keep that in mind if you're thinking about buying this chair. If you're any good at all tracking down the point of failure and determining what part to buy and are a little bit handy with tools you can do what I did. If not then you might want to look elsewhere but like I said ... It's REALLY hard to find a chair that lasts and remains comfortable for a long time.

If you do find something better I'd appreciate it if you'd leave a comment and let me know where I can find that chair. I've had $1200 chairs that also fell apart so it's not really a matter of what you spend in an attempt to get higher quality. I had an Office Star Space chair that I loved when it was new but the base plate SNAPPED in half from metal fatigue. The company replaced it and eventually it got to be unserviceable for someone like me so I gave it to my nephew who weighs 120 lbs. max after a heavy meal. He's still happily using it for the couple hours a day he needs a desk chair. The problem is one of engineering more than anything else, though of course a cheaper chair is made with cheaper, lighter parts and the difference becomes obvious on some of the really low-priced chairs. This Amazon Basics chair would benefit from a heavier base plate like the one I installed and now being as I've replaced that plate it WILL benefit from it. All of which is fine and dandy IF the actual seat/backrest/arms part of the chair holds up, which this one seems to be doing very, very well. I feel that my rating of four stars is fair and reasonable, if I had the means to rate in fractions of a star I'd give the chair 3.85 stars but I had to round up to 4.

At 3.85 stars for quality and value I'm very happy with this chair still.

These are a yummy sweet & tart snack. Kids like them. If they are delivered during the warm months, the filling may ooze out and they may melt together a bit. You can place them in the frig for a few minutes or leave out on the counter before eating.
