Okaysou AirMic4S Medical Grade Air Purifier for Home Allergies and Pets, Smokers, Odors, Dust, Pollen,VOCs, 4 Optional HEPA H13 Filters, Air Purifiers Cleaner for Large Room Bedroom, 300 Sq. Ft.
I have absolutely no complaints about this air purifier!
A bit of backstory as to why I purchased it and what my needs were/are: We (2 adults, 2 kids, and 1 bunny - and yes, I'm allergic to her fur and hay!) closed on our new home (new construction) on May 4th, and between then and move-in day (May 30th), I was at the new house multiple times to assemble furniture or meet delivery persons, installers, vendors, etc. I am terribly allergic to dust, but my biggest downfall is any wood particles - even small amounts of sawdust, the minute amount that often is spread into the air while painting or assembling furniture or doing our punch-list items or even tracked in by workmen on their boots - can give me a terrible allergy and/or asthma attack, often lasting the entire day. After a few trips, with me only in the house a handful of hours or less, I kept having allergy attacks. I could only imagine how much worse it would get when we moved in and I was sleeping there all night! (I won't even mention the anxiety I was having about signing a mortgage on what I thought was my dream house if it turned out I was allergic to it! Literally had nightmares about hidden mold or Chinese drywalls, despite it passing multiple inspections!)
So I bought this, and it arrived the same day we moved in (so it wasn't running ahead of time). I almost bought a different model, which was more expensive but said it would work for a larger-size room. However, my thinking (and I could be wrong, but so far, seems to be correct) was that if this model purified all the air in a 300 sq. ft. room in 15 minutes, then it could do a larger sized room, just not as fast. My goal was to have this running 24/7, provided it's quiet enough (it is!), so I decided to save money and get this model. I have also had the ion air purifiers in the past and aside from getting more static electricity, saw no benefits to using them - I knew I needed something with a HEPA filter or similar.
So with that in mind, here's my review:
First of all, to be fair, I did not get the special "allergen" filter/filtration system. (When considering this model, I saw that they have specific filters - i.e., lots of pets, mold/mildew, smokers, etc.) I'm using what came with it, though when it's time to replace the filter, I might try it. Secondly, we don't have mold, mildew, or smoke, so I can't really comment on how effective it is with those particular allergens. What I can attest to is that I have not had an allergy attack since May 30th (over 6 weeks ago). I have continued the same prescription allergy treatments and nasal sprays I had prior to our move, when I was having allergy attacks after just a few hours at the new house.
The purifier stays in my Master bedroom, which has an attached bathroom and 2 closets, so really, it's working on about a 700 sq. ft. area (entire house is 2,200 sq. ft. over 2 floors, so when the door is open, maybe it's working on all air? *shrug*). It is VERY quiet, and I almost never notice it. I keep it on medium or high, 24/7, and the low setting is even quieter. I keep the blue "night light" (as I call it) feature off, and the brightness from the buttons alone is strong enough that I put it in a corner - to guide me when I get up in the night to use the bathroom (no need to turn on lights), but blocked from my line of vision. To be fair, the wireless signal extender in my room has a stronger light from the power button, so really, I'm probably nitpicking over something so minor that most wouldn't even think to mention it.
In sum, I'm not a scientist testing my air, so I can't prove how effective or efficient it is. And if you don't have severe allergies, asthma, and/or rhinitis like I do, maybe you don't need a model this efficient. I think it's actually very reasonably priced, in comparison to the models I've tried in the past, particularly given how helpful it is for me. I can say it is quieter than the models I had in college and law school, smaller and more compact, and I'm positive it's working because my allergy attacks went from having one after a few hours in our new house to living in our new house for 6 weeks without a single attack. My dream home remains my dream home! But again, I can't attest to how well it works on smells or other allergens (smoke, mold, mildew, etc.) - I'm reviewing this solely on my experience as someone highly sensitive to dust and wood particles, and in that sense, I couldn't be happier.
Note: I have not tired the timer function, because I leave mine running 24/7. So I didn't review that, but I'm sure it works great!
