Dogmatics in Outline (SCM Classics)
Dogmatics in Outline (SCM Classics)
Anyone who ever looks at theology these days cannot help but notice the shadows of certain figures looming large over them. Arguably, fewer of these are more prominent than Karl Barth. His Church Dogmatics is often cited as one of the greatest works of 20th century theology. It is, however, extremely long and, I might add, rather expensive. So in order to attempt to get to grips with Barth's theology, I have had his Dogmatics in Outline on my radar for some time. In this book, which is comprised of transcripts of lectures he gave in Germany, just after the Second World War, he condenses his magnum opus into a little over 140 pages, going through the Apostles' Creed, phrase by phrase.

Before he begins in earnest, though he gives us an outline of his plan, as well as some very useful discussions on the nature of faith. One must not think, though, that because the book is short that it is straightforward. It's very dense, particularly the early chapters. I think I could re-read the first 30 pages over and over again, get something new out of them every time and yet still not fully grasp the breadth of the vision that Barth was expounding.

As he moves on to look at the various bits of the Apostles' Creed, it does become a bit more accessible. Though that may be because I had, by that time, adjusted my reading to suit the cadences present in the text. In many ways, it is particularly hard for me to summarise what Barth's theology is, because what became clear is how much of an influence he has been on the leaders of the churches I have been a part of. That is, I view my own beliefs as being fairly orthodox and there is very little in this book that is vastly different from the teaching I have largely grown up within baptist, pentecostal and other nonconformist churches. It was then merely a very well-articulated series of sermons in the same vein that I have listened to in each of the last 4 decades.

As I was reading through it, I found myself wondering if his theology was the pinnacle of `pre-critical' thinking. Though there are plenty of theologians before him who have had similar views (I think here of the likes of Augustine, Aquinas, Luther & Calvin), Barth was a contemporary of Bultmann, who is one of the others whose shadow across modern theology cannot be ignored. The other figure I thought of was A.W. Tozer. Though the latter was not as theologically astute as Barth, I sensed a similarity in their approach to, and view of, the bible. Interestingly, though, Barth does not go so far as to make any sort of claim to inerrancy, but he does insist on the bible being front and centre of how we understand the christian faith. Though Bultmann is barely alluded to, there is a distinct air of defiance against Bultmann's school of thinking. For my part, though I would lean towards Barth's point of view, I would pay more attention to biblical criticism than is evidenced here.

Barth warns at the outset that this is meant to be a careful look at what the church should be and be for from the perspective of those who are part of the church. It's not a book I would recommend to a non-christian, that's not the target audience. But for anyone wanting to read a book of pretty solid theology, then this is an excellent place to start.
DK Biography: George Washington: A Photographic Story of a Life
DK Biography: George Washington: A Photographic Story of a Life
I would give it 2 stars, but does have excellent pictures, as is the custom of DK books, so I suppose it deserves a 3 overall, but no more. This is, overall, NOT a good kid's biography of George Washington.

I am a Chinese American, recently naturalized, and in preparation of homeschooling my kids I got this book with high expectations. I've always known that Washington was voted unanimously into presidency, and I want to know why - what is so great about this guy?

I finished the book and cannot tell you why. The book never explained it, except the author hints here and there that the people thought highly of Washington for no apparent reason:

"The new commander was an instant American idol...Congress voted him a gold medal and Harvard University awarded the unschooled general an honorary doctor's degree before he had commanded a single battle." (p.45)

The latest trend in historical studies appears to be an overwhelming interest in digging up dirt of previously respected figures. While slow to praise, this book is quick to point out that Washington "swore...till the leaves shook on the trees" (p.64) on one occasion according to some observer, and "Washington was known to pay slaves who volunteered to have teeth yanked out and used in his dentures." (p.80)

Is it really necessary to report that some guy heard Washington swore one time? And does it make sense to yank teeth out of people - if one needs human teeth for dentures, why not get it out of corpses?

In the end, the book makes sure you know that "Washington was no saint...no military genius, and he lost many more battles than he won." (p.115) Trust me, by the time you get to the end, your brain will not be thinking of Washington as a saint at all, so the sentence is worthless except to reveal the author's goal: to dispel any misconceptions out there that might consider Washington a saint.

The book is crummy because it messed up on page 71. I can't imagine DK making such a fatal publishing error. The last line of p.71 reads

"to surprise Cornwallis at Yorktown. Washington himself"

Washington himself what? I turned over the page and read the first line:

"Martha was there, and so were her son, Jacky."

I guess I'll never know what Washington himself did. I am a fan of DK publishing, as they always come up with top quality work, but this book is seriously shaking my faith in them. Hopefully it is an isolated incident.

Epure Venezia Collection 4 Piece Hurricane Glass Set - Perfect for Drinking Pina Coladas, Cocktails, Full-Bodied Beer, Juice, and Water (Pina Colada (15.5 oz))
I have been looking for hurricane glasses for smoothies and tropical drinks, but most places don’t have them. So when I found these I figured might as well buy them, the price isn’t terrible and the size seems right! When they came in I was so upset because my package looked as though someone had used it as a stepping stool! Thankfully the manufacturer used so much styrofoam to keep the glasses protected that when I opened it all the glasses were intact! I have used these almost every weekend since I purchased them and love the amount of drink you can fit in them and how sturdy they feel!

Our Own Candle Company Our Own Pina Colada, The Beach, and Tropical Paradise-Beachin' Variety Scented Mason Jar Candles, 13 oz (3 Pack)
I've been burning about one of these Our Own Candle Company mason jar candles per week for the last few months and haven't gotten any scent more than once (I think). That's not a statement on the candles themselves, just that I like variety and I've tried a variety of these scents. Following is a review about the candles in general and some notes about these scents in particular.

Pros: The handle makes it easy to move still-burning candles without handling the hot jar. They burn cleanly, leaving little wax at the bottom of the jar, and they're such nice jars I've just cleaned them out and am using them as drinking glasses! The sheer variety of scents is amazing and some of them are really rockstars when it comes to scenting the whole house, especially the fall scents (Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Spice), Nice Melons, and anything heavily vanilla scented (so anything with Vanilla or '& Cream' in the name).

Barely even cons: The wick tends to pull up lots of wax, leaving these big black bulbs at the end. If you leave them alone they'll make the candle flame bigger, which burns the candle faster. But if you make sure to trim the wick, you won't have that problem (Note: I received an unexpected pair of wick scissors when I ordered the Sassy Pack, which was a pleasant and useful surprise!). Once you get about halfway through the candle, the flame will start leaving soot in the top half of the candle. I personally don't care about that, but I can see how someone who was more concerned about the aesthetics might find that bothersome.

Con: The potency and accuracy of the scent is pretty hit or miss. I'd say I've gotten about 50/50 on candles that fill the house with scent (see those listed in pros) and candles that smell really nice but only within about a 4' radius. One unexpected experiment was getting a Cinnamon scented one and a Hot Buns (also cinnamon scented). The Hot Buns filled the whole house with cinnamon scent, but the Cinnamon was one you only smelled if you were within that 4' radius. Regarding accuracy, I mostly refer to a couple of candles I've gotten that the scent was... a little off. The Hot Chocolate one has a habit of vacillating between a nice hot cup of cacao and a melted tootsie roll on a summer sidewalk. Both very nostalgic, mostly pleasant scents, but makes for a strange candle experience. The Banana Bread (such as in Smell My Nuts) smells very much like artificial banana flavoring, like banana Runts or Circus Peanuts (did you know those are banana flavored?!). Again, not necessarily bad - just... strange. The problem is that with a few exceptions, it's hard to know whether you'll get a fills-the-house scent or a 4'-radius scent.

If you're like me, you're on a lot of video calls or meetings all day. I use two monitors, so although my laptop has an integrated webcam, I wanted to be able to have my camera above the larger monitor I am looking at during calls/meetings. I was getting a lot of complaints about the sound quality on the integrated mic on the laptop. With the Victure webcam I first purchased people always said they couldn't hear me AND that the wide angle picked up more of my room than me. This camera so far is really perfect. The sound quality is good and the video quality is better than the Victure (granted, the NexiGo was $20 more but I got it on sale so it turned out to only be $10 difference). No more complaints! All in all, I'm much happier with the NexiGo. Worth the extra $$$.
Night Catches Us
Night Catches Us
This is a film about some of the members of the Black Panthers (a few in particular) their involvement with the cause and how their struggle with the law and the movement and the decisions they made during "that time" led them to who they are today as people. It served to be great for some (as you will see in the movie), but also horrible for others. There are great lessons to be learned here in this film for ALL.

Great writing skills are apparent in this wonderful film. Stellar performances by Washington, Mackie, Pierce and a supporting cast who definitely delivers (sorry don't know their names). It reminds me of watching old Panther movies about the struggle and the times when Black people had to go under cover just to speak their minds. I loved seeing the connection people had with one another back then.

This movie will take you back to the 70s so you can experience it. All I can say is what a great movie for everyone to see. This Director Tanya Hamilton
really has a bright future especially with highly successful pieces of work like this one; she is worthy of so much more. I'm recommending this film to everyone I know. For the simple fact, that these producers and creators really KNOW how to tell a story, and a GOOD story at that. It warms my heart to know that there are industry professionals out there that care about important historical subject matters as opposed to T&As kinda stuff all the time.

I loved the time period of the story too, the strong acting by the lead characters; but the person who really WOWED me was Wendell Pierce, I'm mean he really came through on this film - he showed real skill; Thx for the perfect casting....it really showed!! This film shows that The Black Panther Movement will not end in the lives of those who lived it.
Hope you can see the movie soon!!

Awesome! Better than expected! The photo shows a shiny standard silver metal chain and ring but what I received has a matching bronze chain and ring! So much better. Doesn’t come in branded package—just a clear little bag. It arrived with the back scratched up a bit for some reason. It’s ok, going to hang it from my Doctor Strange tote bag. 😌

Question de droits trop onéreux?
The Aquitaine Progression
The Aquitaine Progression
Great Idea for a thrilling novel, but totally unconvincing in terms of the way the storyline is hung together. I thought at times I was reading the rejected script of the"Doctor Strangelove"movie,,complete with a mad, mutilated General Officer in charge of the mayhem, and the pity of it is,that thirty plus years after it was written, some aspects of the plot still have a resonance ,particularly in the way our troubled world is trying to deal, not very successfully, with its problems today. I binned it,a few pages from the end!

Our 11 y/o is finally enjoying to read because of these books. I haven't the slightest clue as to what they are about, but he sure does and he loves them. No more fighting to get him to complete his 1 hour of mandatory reading/day. Often times, he can put the books down ( I am slowly buying him the monster collection of Naruto books that he has wanted.
Inferno (4K UHD)
Inferno (4K UHD)
This is a visually stunning movie with lots of great chase and fight sequences, set in some very lovely cities.

But the storyline just has too many unbelievable elements and non-sequiturs, and the clues are so labored, that after a few minutes all that's left are the visuals. The starting premise is fine, stock thriller fodder. A genius wants to cull the world's population by half in order to save both the planet and humanity itself. He develops a plague virus. Okay so far. But instead of just releasing the virus he puts it in an aerosol bomb somewhere, with a countdown timer. The genius has associates. Some know exactly where the bomb is but are content to wait there and be infected when it blows up. Other associates are deliberately not told where the virus bomb is, and instead are given an obtuse starting clue that might lead them to the bomb (if they are very smart, and dispose the services of the hero's expertise), where their mission would be to ensure that no one prevents it from blowing up. The clues are so obtuse, in fact, that no one could follow them, unless he wrote the screenplay. By the way, many of the characters seem to be able to teleport from one locale to another, too.

If you like Dan Brown and Tom Hanks, you will still like this movie. Just ignore the plot.

For me this book is why I fell in love with Crichton's writing, as I started with Andromeda Strain and this book follows the same motif. For those of you who don't like jargon, don't like what we in the writing business call "data dumps" and don't like looking at "print outs" in different, lighter fonts, this book is not for you. If you enjoyed Andromeda Strain you'll find this book much like that one.
This is all about the investigation of mythical plane disaster from a mythical airline, in a plane made by a mythical company based at the Burbank Airport. Casey Singleton, a woman pushing forty who is a company VP, was put in charge of media and investigations on this air disaster that killed four and injured over fifty people. The factor everyone blames are the slates, that aren't supposed to come out during cruising flight, but may have or did they? That is the question.
Complicating this is her boss, the local unions who fear job losses and are taking action against the company, plus a twenty-eight year old woman news producer from a network show called Newsline.
The story is told in short vignettes that move from building to building, from Glendale to LAX to New York. Crichton obviously researched the whole investigation process and from that comes our charts, print-outs and data dump.
BUT, this book is not much different in content than the popular movie Sully starring Tom Hanks. That, too, is about an investigation into what happened and people got into it. The movie Miracle Landing about the Hawaiian flight whose cabin top sheered off was also popular with TV goers (I knew some of the Ultrasonic testers who went to Hawaii to check the rest of the fleet out). This book is along those lines. I read it in four days. Crichton's writing style is great, he keeps tension with the guys from the union that you're not supposed to screw with, with her new intern, and with all the other people looking into the incident.
For me (and not for everyone) it's best book I've read in years!

The content of the book was great. The condition of the book had wavy pages, which looks like it was in a damp environment or had actually gotten wet. The waviness was across the top of the pages. If the book had not been damaged I would have given it 5-stars. It was a gift so I didn't have time to return it.
A Cedar Cove Christmas (A Cedar Cove Novel)
A Cedar Cove Christmas (A Cedar Cove Novel)
This is actually the 9th book in the Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber. While it may be read and enjoyed as a standalone Christmas novel, it is part of the series and should be read before "92 Pacific Boulevard" for folks reading the series in order.

A sweet and simple Christmas story, it mirrors many of the events of the original Christmas story. A heavily pregnant woman arrives in Cedar Cove looking for the father of her unborn child. There is no room for her to stay the night so she ends up in a family's apartment which is located over their barn - which is housing all the animals from their church's live nativity scene which concluded the evening before. The woman's brothers (the three Wyse men) follow her to Cedar Cove concerned for her safety.

A quick, easy read that is great for the holiday season. Sweet and light are the best words to describe this short and simple book. It may to be sugary for some, but I think most people who purchase Christmas books will find it enjoyable.
The Fourth K: A Novel
The Fourth K: A Novel
I first read this when I was in high school. I enjoyed it very much then, and would re-read it many times over the the next nearly two decades.

This book seems to be fairly polarizing, with a lot of people loving it and a lot of people hating it or at least being dismissive of it. It's not a perfect book, by any means, but I think the positives far outweigh the negatives.

I think Puzo tends to "overwrite" in spots, a criticism that I've levied towards Stephen King as well. Spending pages to write something that could be condensed greatly. This is most evident when dealing with the chapters dealing with The Oracle and the chapters dealing with David Jatney.

I just finished reading the book a few moments ago, the first time I've read it in about three years. A criticism I've seen is that characters show up and then disappear never to be heard from again. However that's not really true. There are characters that disappear for extended times, however with the exception of Cryder Cole, David Jatney's college friend who participated in the Assassination Games at BYU, everyone else in the book that is brought up plays a fairly major role in the book.

And even Cole, it's revealed what happened to him. He was never a major character, he was simply an associate of Jatney, who has a major role in the climax of the novel. I think pretty much every character that is featured in the major storylines were very instrumental in the plot and the winding road that the novel follows. As much as I wasn't really that interested in reading the Oracle's story (after years of reading the book, perhaps) I recognize his importance to the overall narrative.

Likewise, for the most part, I didn't care about David Jatney's story, however it's important because it gives you context and clarity for how he acts in the end.

I think this is a fantastic read and really exemplifies the quote "Power Corrupts. Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely".

You have a guy in Francis Xavier Kennedy who came into office a fairly idealistic, perhaps naive, politician, and evolves, due to tragedies outside of his control, into a monster, for lack of a better word. He leaves behind everything he ever believed in and eventually grows into a tyrannical dictator, all while believing he is doing the best thing for the country.

The sad thing is it is not an unimaginable scenario. Power corrupts and erodes integrity, many times.

The most iconic, and tragic character in this, for me anyway, was Christian Klee, Kennedy's right hand man and the Attorney General of the USA. A powerful man who is not above doing anything and everything he can think of to protect Kennedy, who he views as a brother. This means stepping way over the bounds of reason and legality and morality, all with not a scintilla of remorse or regret. Everything he's doing is justified, in his mind.

Even when he is confronted with his machinations in the end, he feels like he's been wronged, because in his mind he feels he was acting in the best interest of the country, and his friend, the President.

This is a book I think everyone should read. Very interesting and intriguing political thriller. Not a perfect book, by any means, but it is a highly entertaining read, one that lends itself to multiple read.
Dust (Scarpetta)
Dust (Scarpetta)
Another spine-tingling and nail-biting suspense in book 21 by bestselling author Patricia Cornwell featuring her infamous characters.........A body was discovered several miles from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) which is turning out to be a PR nightmare. It was suspected that a body oddly draped in an unusual white cloth was twentytwo-year old computer engineering grad student Gail Shipton, who was last seen the night before at a popular Cambridge bar just meer weeks before her million dollar lawsuit against her former financial manager, and Chief Medical Examiner of Massachusetts Dr. Kay Scarpetta fears the evidence might very well lead to her computer genius niece Lucy. With all the evidence she was accumulating, Kay reluctantly realizes her suspicions were getting stronger when she not only suspects a sexual and sadistic predator, but even worse, someone who had a cold calculating intelligence with a decided purpose in mind, reminding her that he was a far more sinister enemy. More perplexing, was the odd fluorescent material discovered all over Gail Shipman's body deposited after death. Why? And where was she murdered? And most importantly, was the mysterious residue known as Dust an accidental transfer of evidence like dust in the wind? Or did her killer want her body found after all? With the help from her friends, colleagues, family and her forensic psychologist husband, FBI profiler Benton Wesley, Kay's intuitions continually speaks to her telling her that there seems to be a suggestion of organized crime or political corruption or maybe possibly both at the highest levels!........
Hard Hat Harry: Farm Equipment Adventures
Hard Hat Harry: Farm Equipment Adventures
My 4 year old nephew LOVES the series. I have to admit, of all the stuff I end up having to watch with the kid, Hard Hat Harry is some of the most fun and educational. This particular one was really good. My nephew likes watching them for the entertainment, but then ends up having good curiosity to learn more. That's always a good thing with kids. This is the kind of stuff that makes learning interesting for kids without feeling too much like "education".

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 3D (Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack with Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD & Digital Copy) [Blu-ray 3D
With this next to last installment of the Harry Potter series, we have the beginnings of a major, but logical, turn of events. Deathly Hallows Part 1 leads us into that final reckoning with Voldemort that we all know has been coming, and, as such, a much darker take on that inevitability. All previous movies have really been about the training necessary to confront the boss; mere rehearsals for the final showdown. With these final two installments we get to the real heart of the matter and it must be darker. No, Hallows Part 1 (and for that matter Part 2 as well) are not as much fun as the previous movies. This one's getting much more serious, as it should. These movies are so superbly crafted and executed that they are a testament to the near reverence held for the source material by Rowling. The directors have done an amazing job bringing Rowling's books to life in a way that truly reflects their spirit. Needless to say it's also a testament to the wondrous descriptive writings of Rowling which enabled this to happen in the first place.
Also, as a movie, we watch as the character relationships between Ron and Hermione and Harry and Ginger come to fruition. The acting by all concerned in these films has been a delight to watch.

I have only one negative, and that has to do with the 3D version of the film: it comes across as way too dark. When I watch the 2D Blueray version, it looks great, but for some reason, 3D is not nearly as enjoyable because of that darkness. I attempted to find some way to lighten it up, but couldn't figure it out. My other 3D films, such as Avatar or Life of Pi, etc don't have this problem, so I am wondering if it was simply a case of this particular version of the Deathly Hallows that has this issue. Part 2 has the same problem in 3D. I will continue to investigate and see if there is any solution to this. BTW: I have a 60" LG "smart" 3D tv. I have had no other issues at all with other 3D films with this set.

If you are a fan of the whole Harry Potter experience, Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a must and is yet another very worthy work of art in that franchise. Obviously, if you are not a fan, then there is probably little here that will compel you to seek it out. It is part of a piece and an essential component of the whole.

Anthills of the Savannah
Chinua Achebe has ample own experience on the topic writing about - namely how do dictatorships develop - and does a spectacular job of describing the subtle dynamics that will inexorably draw people together and subsequently apart in such a scenario. Set in a fictional African state of Kangan and told through various narrators - all of whom used to belong to a tightly knit group of friends before one of them became His Excellency - it presents a wonderful take on power, delusion and the mechanics of third world autocratic governments.

The story revolves around Chris (commissioner for information), Ikem (editor of the most prominent newspaper in the country), Beatrice (Chris' girlfriend and an employee at the ministry of finance) and finally Sam (His Excellency) - all UK educated, all friends at some point in time - and their deteriorating relationship. The inexorable changes result from Sam slowly but surely losing his grip on reality and spiralling into self delusion. At the same time the country is rapidly approaching truly disruptive change in a development that is as terrible, as it is inexorable.

Modelled on oil boom Nigeria, it is probably one of the more prominent of Achebe's works. Written much later than his early fiction (1987), it loses none of the vitality of works such as
Mrs. Houdini: A Novel
Mrs. Houdini: A Novel
Unequivocal praise for and recommendation of this historical novel. Historical novels are not usually on my radar since I prefer non-fiction. The only other historical novel I read before Victoria’s was Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow, and that was published in 1975. However Victoria is a fellow poet whom I met at a reading of her poems, and I am so glad that I got the opportunity to read her first novel. Victoria’s story about Bess Houdini is poetic, psychological, mystical, and creates vivid pictures in your mind of the eras involved (1899 to 1929, primarily) and the compelling characters that Mrs. Houdini meets along her journey through life with her famous husband. Her writing style is like silk, smooth and elegant. And it is seemingly effortless. But as a writer myself, I know that getting to that kind of silkiness and effortlessness requires hard work. She also asks the question that Mary Higgins Clark, whom I met several years ago, said she always asks when she imagines a story: “What if?” That question loomed large when Victoria set out to write a novel about Harry Houdini’s wife. Like the magic that Houdini was a master at, I will not reveal the plot, but I will leave the magic of this enthralling story for you to discover from the masterful pen of Victoria Kelly.
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone (AKA Philosopher's Stone) Original Motion Picture
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone (AKA Philosopher's Stone) Original Motion Picture
After tremendous success composing soundtracks for such blockbusters as 'Jaws', the 'Star Wars' films, 'Superman', 'Jurassic Park', and the 'Indiana Jones' films, why should we be surprised that movie soundtrack legend John Williams was commissioned to write the score for the movie that introduced us to that most popular boy wizard of Hogwarts - Harry Potter? No other composer comes close to creating such a marvelous soundtrack for the big-screen introduction to Harry in 'Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone'.

The soundtrack starts out softly with a marvelous string & tinkling bells theme as we are introduced to little Harry and the magic begins. 'Visit to the Zoo and Letters from Hogwarts' employs an enjoyable string & brass motif as Harry's annoying, spoiled cousin (?) has a nasty run-in with a snake, and the snowy owl brings Harry letters from Hogwarts which his arrogant, annoying uncle (?) tries desperately to conceal, only to have more and more appear. 'The Quidditch Match' appropriately employs a style for which Williams has become famous for his work in 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones' - fast-moving, rapidly paced strings, brass & percussion as Harry plays that famous game using the broom. 'The Face of Voldemort' also reveals the darkest side of the Harry Potter series; a dark, threatening sound meant to depict a young boy confronting his greatest fear - and enemy.

Once again, John Williams shows why he's a true master of the soundtrack. It's a shame he wasn't able to score all the films in the series; they would have greatly benefited from his work.
Generation Decks: The Unofficial History of Gaming Phenomenon Magic the Gathering (1)
Generation Decks: The Unofficial History of Gaming Phenomenon Magic the Gathering (1)
I'm not a hardcore magic player. In fact, my only opponents have been reluctant siblings who don't share my interest. I am however a lover of collectible toys and fantasy art and Magic is both. The original ebook released under the title "So Do You Wear a Cape?" some years ago was a very enjoyable read and this work is an expanded version of that.

The most enjoyable parts are the chapters on the origin story of the game. What blood, sweat and tears went into its creation. The stories of players buying in a frenzy stirs up the collector/ hoarder in me that keeps me coming back to re-read once in awhile. However, it seems like the author has morphed this version of the book into somewhat a part auto-biography, detailing his emotional attachment to the game and his life growing up around it, which, I guess must be rather cathartic for himself but really could have done without. The negativity kind of puts a damper on the pacing.

Some sections have also been updated to reflect the development of the game in the digital age. There seems to be a lot more tournament discussion than I previously remembered which made some parts a slog to read through since the specifics weren't all that interesting. Overall though, for magic fans I think this is a must read.
mCover Hard Shell Case for Microsoft Surface Book Computer 1 & 2 & 3 (15-inch Display, Aqua)
mCover Hard Shell Case for Microsoft Surface Book Computer 1 & 2 & 3 (15-inch Display, Aqua)
It's really hard getting cases for the Surface Book 2, let alone the 15" version of the Book 2, so I really didn't have a TON of choice in buying this. However, I am not disappointed in the slightest. For the price, the quality is excellent. This (in my opinion) is a cheaper case. If you want a really sturdy case that will protect your computer if you shove it off the counter accidentally, you will have to pay more money, obviously. This case will 100% protect the outside/bottom/top of the laptop from surface scratches and dings. I don't know how much drop protection it would provide, especially if dropped on one of the corners. In my opinion, the price was good, it fits well, installation was easy, and I have no complaints right now! My main concern in buying this case was to protect from scratches anyway. I wasn't looking for huge armor to cover my laptop. This case is thin, has nice colors, and works like it's advertised!

My cord for my Wacom tablet developed a loose connection, so I ordered this replacement. It's actually way better than the cord that came with the tablet! The original cord was made to plug in upside down, which is what I think made it short out. This one plugs in the right way; the cord doesn't get a kink in it at the part that plugs in. So happy I bought it!

LIKEE Electric Balloon Pump Portable Balloon Inflator Air Blower with Balloon Arch &Garland Kit for Party Decoration(Rose Red)
This product comes in very handy for exactly what it's needed for, which is blowing up balloons. It's a little bit smaller than I I had expected it to be, but that's actually a good thing! It came with plastic pieces to hold balloon bunches together, something called balloon tape which I still haven't figured out as well as glue pieces which I also haven't figured out. I am very confused by the directions however. Without them, the only thing that is obvious is where to place the balloon, yet that is literally the only thing that the directions explain to you.
All in all though, it does come in handy. It saves a lot of time and hassle.
Playtex Women's 18 Hour Ultimate Lift and Support Wire Free Bra
Playtex Women's 18 Hour Ultimate Lift and Support Wire Free Bra
You know your bras are old and so worn out that they no longer hold you up, no matter how much you tighten the straps. This was the case for me since I hadn't bought new bras in YEARS so I decided it was time to invest in some bras. I used to spend a lot of money on each bra from an expensive store (shhh, it's a secret!) and, while I loved them, it didn't seem to be very practical to me if I could find less expensive bras that were good quality and could do just as good of a job. I remember seeing Playtex bras when I was much younger and started searching for them. This seemed to be a popular choice among many people so I chose one of these to test it out.

This Playtex bra is an 18 hour bra meant to lift and support all day. It doesn't have an underwire and it's lightly padded on the shoulder straps. The cups aren't padded and there are three hooks for each of the three closure sizes for a total of nine hooks. I purchased the nude color which is a nice, light color that is good for a lot of light-colored and dark-colored clothes. Washing instructions are machine wash cold with like colors and tumble dry low. It is made in El Salvador of 81% nylon and 19% spandex (cup and center belt) and 92% nylon and 8% spandex (back). I always put my bras in lingerie bags in the washing machine and hang them up to dry.

For sizing purposes, I am typically a 36D and ordered a 36D in this bra. It fits perfectly so I'd say you will most likely want to order your normal size. This is a full-coverage bra so it goes up a little higher on your chest. I like the fact that it fits me nicely, the straps are padded and comfortable and the design is attractive.

The reason I'm not a big fan of this bra is because I don't feel it's very supportive. I usually wear underwire bras and thought I'd try this because it seems to be a popular choice. Even though I tighten the straps, I still feel like I'm drooping because I don't feel the bottom part holds me up enough. I end up adjusting myself several times throughout the day (fortunately, I'm a stay-at-home mom). The other reason I don't really like this bra is because it isn't padded. I don't need a lot of padding but I like some padding to hide the fact that I get cold. It was very easy to see that I was cold when I wore this bra, which my husband was delighted to point out to me.

Since this particular bra doesn't suit me well, I ended up purchasing
BDS for IDIOTS: BOYCOTT ISRAEL honestly - and let's see how far you get!
BDS for IDIOTS: BOYCOTT ISRAEL honestly - and let's see how far you get!

I am giving this five stars for several reasons. First, I know the author and know him to be a man of integrity with a passionate love for the modern, democratic state of Israel in which he is a shareholder. Second, it contains a plethora of facts about Israel that BDS people choose not to confront, preferring instead to rely upon emotions rather than reason. Third, I do not want bad reviews to overtake the good ones in count on Amazon, because the lies upon which the BDS movement is based cannot be allowed to prevail, either macro-cosmically against the state of Israel, nor micro-cosmically against a book such as this by a truly good man willing to stick his neck out for a just cause. In other words, I am giving the book an "A" for intent.

Having said this, "BDS for Idiots" needs a good proofreading before a second printing. It contains more than a few errors, both typographical and grammatical. It is also screams out for both ongoing footnotes, and a bibliography at the end, neither of which are supplied. Repairing the errors is a must. While not mandatory, adding the items I cited will add the stamp of scholarship to it. Doing so will not detract from the author's main purpose, which is to provide "a seriously funny humiliation of BDS." Rather, it will add more legitimacy to what is already a really good effort. A second, more carefully executed edition will put this book permanently on map as one of many efforts by goodhearted souls that will inevitably ascribe the misinformed, antisemitic movement known as BDS (which erroneously holds that anti-Zionism is not the same as antisemitism) to the scrapheap of history, which is where it belongs. People have been trying to destroy the Jewish people for several thousand years. They will fail, as they always have. "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Genesis 12:3 ("The Calling of Abram")

Graphics and Title ("Morec EV Charger NEMA6-20P, Portable EVSE Level 2 Type1 SAE J1772 Plug 8m (26 feet), 220V-240V, 16A, Home Electric Vehicle Charging Station Compatible with All EV Cars …") are misleading. This is actually a DUAL Level 1 AND Level 2 Charger with a DUAL input voltage of 120 - 240 VAC. I just received it, set it up and have enormous hopes it will last long into the future. Works like a charm with 120 VAC input, was easy to install, has clear and concise documentation with lovely drawings and sketches. Build quality appears to be excellent. My only concern is a promised 3-year warranty on Amazon but the documentation declares a 2-year warranty. In the event of an issue my expectation is the longer Amazon warranty will prevail. Hope they sell a lot of these so the price point remains low. Will update this review should there be future issues.

12" Selfie Ring Light with Stand for iPhone Android, Selfie Light Ring YouTube Video Tiktok Makeup Photography Live
This light can get really bright but luckily dimming it has been really easy. I have this on my bathroom counter and it hardly takes up any space. I use this while I'm doing my makeup or plucking my eyebrows. The zoom mirror I have used to have a light but it broke and this is a great replacement. The tripod is a perfect height and fits behind my mirror but still emits more than enough light for me to see. I've recently started using these for my meetings. I close my curtains because it's been so hot which makes the room dark. With this light, I'm able to put it behind my laptop on my small desk and it emits more than enough light for everyone, mainly my bosses, to see me. I did keep the plastic that came with the light to use for a cover. I do like having the attachments as I have had to use my phone for a few meetings. The phone holder secures my phone in place but once you have it adjusted, that bendable piece that holds the phone clip does not move. No matter how much I move or adjust the light, that thing stays in place. This works great in small spaces.

Fiskars Rotary Cutter and Ruler Combo, 6x24 Inch
Fiskars Rotary Cutter and Ruler Combo, 6x24 Inch
This product has worked well for the light cutting I have used it for. I was able to easily line the fabric up with the ruler. However at some points it was hard to follow the lines that were marked at the half points.
It was an easy fix, just take a highlighter and Mark the line down occasionally. I did this as I cut many of the same widths.
Very easy to do an assembly line of cutting. It was great for getting pieces together and easily cut for a craft for a classroom.
Make sure you have a large cutting mat to place this on. Also it wouldn't be good for large lengths of fabric. The details included on box says it can cut through 8 layers . However I was cutting a very thin fleece and I couldn't double it over at all.
I would also keep a hand rotary cutter close by because it does skip at times. I found if you try to return to cut position it will chop up your straight cut.
The handle that you push to move the blade requires a little more pressure than I would expect. It kind of feels like it may break because it is such a light guide that follows the rotary blade.
You also have to kinda push a little to the side to get a clean cut at times.

Do I think it would cut through jeans easily? No.
Will it cut through regular fabric, felt, knit, canvas etc? Yes

It will be beneficial for simple cuts and small projects. If you are looking to make a project with a heavy weight, like denim
I would pass.
TP-Link AC1900 High Power Wireless Wi-Fi Gigabit Router, Ideal for Gaming (Archer C1900)
TP-Link AC1900 High Power Wireless Wi-Fi Gigabit Router, Ideal for Gaming (Archer C1900)
So far so good with this router. Previously, I had a combination modem/router from a different brand and found that the wireless range was not adequate for my house. The problem with that router is the antennas were internal so there was no way to adjust them or replace them with better antennas. The way my house is set up the modem/router has to be on one side of the house so the other side received little to no signal. I tried using a range extender, but that was a poor solution (it lost a lot of speed repeating the signal). I elevated the modem/router to 7 feet above the floor as several articles mentioned that as a possible range solution. That helped a little bit but was still not good enough to get video streaming speeds to the other side of the house.

So I started researching routers. The Archer C7 was mentioned in several online reviews/comparison. The C9 was the latest model so I decided to future-proof myself (for a couple years anyway) and get that model. Then on Amazon, I noticed that there was a high-power version that replaces the standard antennas with high-gain antennas. This is something that I would have tried with my old modem/router if I was able to access the antennas so I decided to spend a few extra bucks and get the high-power C9 now and not worry about upgrading in the future.

What a difference the C9 makes on my wireless range! I connected the C9 to one of the ethernet ports on my old modem/router and turned off the wireless signal from the modem/router (bridge mode). Now I can easily stream Netflix in every room (simultaneously) with bandwidth to spare.

I purchased the Jelly Belly Licorice Jelly Beans three times within the last 3 months. The first two purchases they had great flavor. The third/last purchase there is barely a licorice taste. I don't even want to eat them because of that. It's the first time I've ever experienced this when buying licorice jelly beans of any brand. I may have to switch to a different brand because these are expensive, and I didn't get what I paid for this last time. I was so looking forward to these, and the two week shipping wait and price would've been worth it if they had the licorice flavor they should have had. I'm very disappointed!
McFarlane Toys The Witcher Geralt of Rivia 12"" Action Figure (13441-4)
McFarlane Toys The Witcher Geralt of Rivia 12"" Action Figure (13441-4)
I was slightly hesitant to purchasing this one because I Love the Witcher game but the pictures did not do this figure justice. Has a good weight to it and the details are amazing! I am not taking this out of the box just yet but its one of my favorite 12" figures that's not spawn. I would recommend this. I know people want a 22 moving points but if you're like me and just want a solid figure without working about a hinge being to lose or too tight this is for you.
