Electron Projects: Build over 9 cross-platform desktop applications from scratch
Electron Projects: Build over 9 cross-platform desktop applications from scratch
The book walks the reader through creating multiple Electron Projects with the integration of modern frameworks such as React and Vue. It has example projects like games and even a music player. This is a pragmatic option to get started with software development using the Electron framework. I think it also provides valuable insight into alternative workflows for the experienced developer.
The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting the World
The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting the World
What features of facebook led to its instant success, and who deserves the credit? Why has facebook continued to grow while other social networks faltered at earlier stages? How did facebook make money at various stages of development? What caused facebook's various missteps? Does facebook really care about privacy? David Fitzpatrick gives convincing answers to these questions that have been hotly debated among users for years. The book suffers at times from gushy editorializing, but overall the reporting is balanced (with a few exceptions), and readers can weigh the facts on their own.

Fitzpatrick identifies several features that differentiated facebook from the rest. School networks offered a controlled community. Users felt comfortable projecting their true identities online in this setting. The site was easy to use, and didn't try to do too much too soon. Long-run growth was always a stronger priority than short-term ad revenue. Mark Zuckerberg's immaturity during his college age years is clear, but he ultimately nails the most important strategic decisions. He was not a mere caretaker of a simple idea at the right time.

The book touches on the personal conflicts made famous by the Social Network movie. The motives behind Eduardo Saverin's sacking are carefully reported. In contrast, key facts are missing in Fitzpatrick's treatment of the Winklevoss/Narendra ConnectU lawsuit. Fitzpatrick makes a convincing case that ConnectU's business plan was inferior to thefacebook's, but he glosses over how Zuckerberg sabotaged their site for months. Zuckerberg's AOL IMs from this era (referenced in the 12/30/10 NYT) reveal he viewed them as a competitor, and this calls into question Fitzpatrick's judgment that Zuckerberg was merely guilty of being "rude" and "uncooperative." Future editions of the book should incorporate more accurate information about the case.

Another weakness is the book's failure to address contradictions in facebook's views on privacy. For example, he asserts in the prologue that facebook "has always been explicitly conceived and engineered by Zuckerberg and colleagues as a tool to enhance your relations with your real-world friends" But later we learn that Zuckerberg is always pushing people to be more transparent, and that voyeurism was part of facebook's success from the beginning at Harvard. Who seriously believes facebook has never encouraged voyeurism outside of your circle of real friends?

Yet the book's most lasting impression is Zuckerberg's resolve in prioritizing facebook's utility over its profits. Knowing how close friend Sean Parker lost control of his past ventures, Zuckerberg is careful not to let future investors take control of his baby. Understanding this is also crucial to understanding the controversy behind facebook's delays in going public. Without Zuckerberg's patience, facebook would have been far less useful as a tool of Viacom, News Corp, Yahoo, Microsoft, or Wall Street. For this, Zuckerberg is worthy of the rosy picture painted in this book, despite his sins.

The Toyota Way
The Toyota Way
About to embark on a lean, six sigma or any continuous improvement course or indeed just for someone wanting to improve how they work then pick this up first.

Yes it is someone dated in regards its publication date however as a back story to how Toyota was born, how it managed to evolve from a small family business into the leading light of efficient, goal orientated manufacturing en mass then its a really useful book.

For a hardcover copy it's an excellent value book.

There are a number of tips and ideas within it to probably improve most workplaces without the need to pay for a lean course though it is of course no subsistute for a course.

I have marked as four stars simply because some of the information is repeated, however It gave me a new insight into such things as corporate responsibility to the community that all employers now seem to shout about in mission statements that dominate their web pages, employees come first and all employees should be allowed and encouraged to contribute to continuous improvement is actually the foundation that serves lean manufacturing.

Very good read, insight into Toyota and having a hard copy enables you to read digest and pass to a colleague or friend.
The Bootleg Series, Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live, 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall Concert"
The Bootleg Series, Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live, 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall Concert"

Heutzutage undenkbar.
Was für Kategorien, was für Vergleiche, welch heiliger Zorn! Heutzutage undenkbar.

"She's got everything she needs, she's an artist, she don't look back..."
CD z.B. "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down" (von seinem 1. Nach "Ballad Of A Thin Man" kommt er dann, DER LEGENDÄRE MOMENT.
At Budokan [Live In Japan, February, 1978]
At Budokan [Live In Japan, February, 1978]
I've been a fan of Dylan's since the late 70s, which was great cause not only did I get to go forward listening to his new releases but I got to go back and listen to and love all his early works. I LOVE Dylan's words, delivery, music and signature voice. I first purchased At Budokan when it came out as an LP and loved it...now that the record is worn, I'm buying the CD. I can't say that I always like LIVE recordings...sometimes the songs are changed so much during the live performances that they are barely even similar to the studio recordings. Well, in this instance the changes are refreshing and a pleasure to listen to. This CD is a collection of some of Bob's earlier songs performed live with a couple different instruments (sax and flute ) than found in the original recordings. I personally, like the light soulful changes. Other recordings of Ballad of a Thin Man and Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, particularly versions off "Before The Flood", are delivered in a softer tone. The tough guitar riffs of Robbie Robertson are replaced with an almost island swaying flavor, but somehow it still works. Dylan manages to take his classic I Shall Be Released and make it new with a beautiful sax, female back up singers and of course his charismatic delivery of the words.I never ever thought I could love any version but the original studio cut of Simple Twist of Fate, yet this live version is absolutely fantastic...the man tells a story his voice soft sexy and compelling. Another favorite, I Want You, redone so well....just wish it was longer. At Budokan is another of my many favorite CDs- LOVE DYLAN!
30th Anniversary Concert Celebration [Deluxe Edition]
30th Anniversary Concert Celebration [Deluxe Edition]
Ironic to think that this set - recorded in October 1992, was celebrating Dylan's 30th anniversary as a recording artist, and here we are in 2016, another quarter of a century plus later, and Dylan's just released a new album. Anyway, I bought both the deluxe vinyl and CD version of this set. I have reviewed the vinyl, and all I would like to add is that this album has an added poignancy when you consider that several of the performers - Richie Havens, Lou Reed, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, Johnny Winter, members of The Band - are now gone. And Dylan is still with us. Some great songs here - and the odd indifferent performance, but overall a worthy celebration of Dylan's enduring talent.

Margaritaville DM0700-000-000 Frozen Concoction Maker, 1, White
EDIT: We decided to leave the ice out 20 rather than 15 minutes and it shaved the ice perfectly! Nothing wrong with it now. LOVE it!
Great machine, easy to use, however it DOES NOT SHAVE ICE. We've tried several types of ice, from the cubes our freezer makes to different shapes/sizes and left them all out the recommended 15 minutes and all of it produced beads of ice. Every drink of my margarita required me to chew up half a mouthful of ice beads. Shaved ice is what snow cone machines make. This does nothing like that yet it's advertised as shaved.
This really sucks because everything else is perfect and we love the machine but for the $199 I paid i could have gotten four snow cone machines and made my drinks in a pitcher and been happy. I probably should have taken off more than one star since the ice is 90% of the whole "thing" but the rest of it is great. They just shortchanged the ability for it to do what they said it does.

Little Trees Car Air Freshener | Hanging Tree Provides Long Lasting Scent for Auto or Home | Piña Colada, 6-Packs (4 Count)
What started as a positive, fulfilling relationship turned into a grown man living alone; what was a camping van soon turned into a commuter/domicile/nervous breakdown mobile. Living alone is pretty tough, especially when all you have are the smells of your own funk, the road, and yesterday's take-away to fill the void. I tried many things to cover the stench of my solitude, to include candles, spray products, cleaners, and those gel cups. What I guess I figured out is that no product will cover my own disappointment.

But then on a stop for a shower at a Midwest truck scale, I saw this scent of Little Trees. Reminds me of those happier days. Far before the divorce, and even further from the legal issues. It was the smell of childhood: freedom, innocence, genuine sugary happiness. The sheer excitement I would get running towards oddly-colored carbs. The genuine relationship with my father as I was held in loving embrace, even with the dusty shards of candy draping on his shoulders through the cacophony.

I can relive those moments with the large pack (24) of these Little Trees. Like most things in live they are temporal. But if temporary happiness at such a low cost brings back good memories, why not try it out. I can hang a few of these in my close quarters and at least remember a time when things were simpler. When tears and sadness were resolved so easily.
Divorce - Season 2
Divorce - Season 2
I just started watching season 2. I can't get over how she really screwed him in season one. She has everything she wanted, pretty much, including the gallery, and that deal he was putting together to build that children's playspace fell thru when her lawyer froze his assets. I like the show, but really dislike Parker's character. (Just an update: I finished the season, it got a lot better as the season progressed. I'm upgrading it from 3stars to 4. I liked all the characters except the Frances character. LOVE Jackie. I believe that, All's Well that Ends Well. This hasn't ended yet, but it seems to be working out well enough for everyone.)
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! (Beginner Books)
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! (Beginner Books)
I bought this book for my 6 year old nephew. Having opened the book for the first time, I found myself reading the pages, once, twice and gradually realised the beauty of the words as I was not reading but singing the words. I read the book at least 10 times before post it to my newphew. This book is not just an introduction to reading but also to the pleasure of poetry. It has abeautiful ending telling the child why he/she should read. I would suggest the ideal age for this book is 4 or 5. From educational points of view the rythm and the words are put so skillfully together that a youngster will remember the words for sometime or even for life. Reading this book is a nostalgic part of childhood. My nephew has read the book countlessly so as his parents and his great parents. This book is fun and I will treat myself to a copy as a Xmas Present.
One Piece, Vol. 36 (36)
One Piece, Vol. 36 (36)
One Piece used to be published in Brazil and I used to buy every single booklet here. It was available in a different format, as half a tankobon once a month. We would never reach Japan, though it was still published faster than the US (while we were close to ending Skypiea, you were still in Alabasta). But then, the publisher started showing signs of weakness - the production values dropped and delays were frequent. And finally, at the 70th booklet (Vol. 35 of the original together with 69), they dropped One Piece and out of the manga business altogether (they now only publish very cheap manhwa).

Thankfully, that coincided with Viz Media's plans of catching up with Japan - and so I decided that I couldn't drop One Piece at where it stopped (I just saw Usopp fight Luffy and leave the crew, for God's sake!). It wouldn't be cheap, I'd have to pay in full and wait a month for it to arrive. But at last it did, and as I read it, the conclusion couldn't be more evident: after all this years, and even with the price increase, One Piece is still worth it.

Water Seven is proving out to be the best and most eventful One Piece arc so far. It has always been a story of friendship, strength and willpower, but here is where all of those things are put to the test. It's particularly satisfying for those of us who have followed it for years. But if you haven't read One Piece yet: you have the privilege of seeing this arc unfold without having to wait. Don't miss it! I guarantee you it is well worth your time and effort.
Irish Rebel (Irish Hearts Book 3)
Irish Rebel (Irish Hearts Book 3)
I have read a LOT of stories by Nora Roberts and she is definitely a good writer. This book is well written with a nice flow. It is also a relatively simple love story without much suspense or intrigue. Its a feel good story where the hero and heroine have some minor issues to overcome, which they do quickly toward the end of the story. All the good people are beautiful and just as nice as can be and the villian is quickly overcome. The setting is gorgeous and in the end everyone lives happily ever after. Recommended for young readers or someone who is just wanting some light reading.

Secrets of Middle-Earth - Inside Tolkien's "The Fellowship of the Ring" [VHS]
This video is pretty good. It goes into the story and explains how and where the ideas came to be. It's much more in depth than the bonus footage you get with the movies...I suggest however that you purchase the 4 pack with all the titles from this collection, instead of paying for each one. I must admit though, these videos are definite must haves for any Tolkien fan.

Raise the Titanic
Raise the Titanic
I wasn't expecting this film to even get a DVD release let alone the Blu-ray treatment, but here it is! One of my favorite films as a kid, this film if watched for the first time today would look very campy in comparison to James Cameron's Titanic. It's become a cult classic rather than the mainstream hit they were hoping it to be when it was produced. Since this was filmed before the actual ship was discovered, much of the facts we know about the wreck are rendered null and void. That has to be taken into consideration when watching this.

Based on the best-selling book by Clive Cussler, what hurt this movie most among fans of the book with how much a different from the written storyline. Also, the acting from the supporting cast, specifically David Selby and Anne Archer were subpar in comparison to the leads. The big pluses for this film were Richard Jordan as Dirk Pitt and John Barry's extraordinary musical score. If you remove those two elements, this film would have little left to praise.

The underwater shots and the scenes of the ship being raised were a mixed bag. Many shots were painfully obvious in using miniatures. However, the scenes of the ship emerging on the surface as well as it being pulled into New York harbor were amazing. The blu-ray has a very good visual transfer, and the sound is great. It also comes with a very nice documentary of the making of the film as well as the trailer for the film. More treatment than this deserves, but as a childhood fan of the film, I was super happy it got it!

Because of the childhood memories this has for me, I have to give this four stars. However, I believe most will give it a max of three. If you can consider when it was made, roll with the glazed storyline, and tolerate the acting of the supporting cast, you may actually enjoy this.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 4--Diamond Is Unbreakable, Vol. 4 (4)
This volume contains three and a half arcs- the end of the Rohan intro arc, the rat hunting arc, Rohan and Koichi’s stroll down a supernatural street, and the introduction of Shigechi. This book continues to flesh out the citizens of Morioh, as well as giving Jotaro fans another adventure during his stay. However, if you are crazy enough to think this volume is just filler, know that this volume also reveals there is a serial killer loose in Morioh. As Rohan delves into his past, he will uncover this ugly truth that will surely go down in this little town’s history. An elusive new enemy awaits.
Alice Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
Alice Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
This is not Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, nor is it Disney's. It's dark, a bit dystopian, quasi-surrealist, very Tim Burton in a lot of ways. But who is it for?

The visuals, set design, setpieces, and acting are teen to adult—only certain kids will take these in without being troubled or having nightmares.

On the other hand, the plot is incredibly, incredibly simple and not subtly revealed. It amounts to: girl (Alice) doesn't like her life because everyone tells her what to do. Girl flees to wonderland, where everyone but her thinks she's a hero. After some initial resistance, girl accepts that she's a hero and slays dragon (jabberwock). This gives girl the confidence to return to her real life and tell everyone bossing her around to shut up.

This is not a plot synopsis, this is effectively the plot—not very much happens other than that. Flee to wonderland. "You're a hero." "No I'm not." "Yes you are." "Okay, I guess I'll try." Dragon gets slain. "I did it!" Return to real life with knowledge she's a dragon-slayer. "Shut up, all of you!" The end.

The stuff that takes up the time is mostly just conversation and little bits of fiddling about—sight gags and Burtonesque visuals and so on. Absolutely a kid-only plot in terms of sophistication and sustained interest. There's just not enough meat here—no intrigue, no character relationships, nothing in particular—to keep an adult interested.

So we have a movie that has a kid-style plot—enough to fill a picture-book of about 20-25 pages with a girl-and-dragon morality play fairy tale. Yet we have adult visuals—giant heads and grotesque people and severed heads and fingers and so on.

Basically, it's the Tim Burton logic taken to the extreme—take a kid-level idea and roll it up into deeply adult visuals.

Who is this for? I suppose at the end of the day, there is a segment of kids that will enjoy it. They're the kids that aren't squeamish and love surreal and troubling stuff. They do exist.

Of course, kid #1 in this group is Tim Burton himself—who is probably the person this film is really for!

Not Quite Dead Enough (A Nero Wolfe Mystery Book 10)
We get a double dose of Archie and Nero in these two novellas published under one title: "Not Quite Dead Enough" (1942) and "Booby Trap" (1944).

In "Not Quite Dead Enough" Archie is a Major in the Army, and is currently in Washington D.C., trying to persuade "the top mackaroo of United States Army Intelligence" to promote him again:

"I may mention that my pay was roughly three times what it is at the moment. Of course if I were made a colonel—” “How long have you been a major?” “Three days.” He pronounced a certain word, just one word, very snappy. “Yes, sir,” I said. He nodded curtly, to signify that that was settled for good, and went on. “We need Nero Wolfe. Not necessarily in uniform, but we need him."

Archie is sent back to the old familiar brownstone to persuade his former boss to help the Army solve a murder. He is in for a rude surprise. Wolfe has decided to enlist in the Army as a private soldier, and to that end he and Fritz, the cook are on a ferocious diet-and-exercise program. How is Archie going to persuade the stubborn genius that the war effort needs his considerable brain power, not his considerable brawn?

Hey, no problem. All Archie has to do is get himself arrested for murder.

The second novella, "Booby Trap" is a continuation of the first, in which Wolfe finally sets out to solve the Army's mysterious death.

I enjoyed watching Nero and Archie go to war. "Not Quite Dead Enough" has lots of snappy dialogue (imagine Wolfe on a diet of prunes and lettuce---with no dressing!), a fast-moving plot and a surprise (at least to me) ending. "Booby Trap" is a bit more serious and Wolfe basically has to bludgeon his way to a solution, so it was not quite as much fun. But war is hell and we all have to make a few sacrifices. I'm just sorry Rex Stout decided to sacrifice his sense of humor.
Doctor Who Thirteenth Doctors Guide
Doctor Who Thirteenth Doctors Guide
I want to say that I have had my independent time of being able to experience, to read and to explore the largest collection of what Doctor Who is all about in this updated guide book on 12th September 2020.

Lots of information and images are seen inside the book and it's just unique to look.

It seems the first ever adventure began 57 years ago in 1963 on television and why it's a journey that will go on forever.

I had to learn what history there is available from this theme and how it all began all those years ago.

The contents in the book are divided into different page numbers for each Doctor and sometimes it helps you to know where they are in case you'd forgotten or remember them.

My minor issue which I am not familiar with are the classic Doctors and they were very old in the past.

I imagine they had different characterises back then.

Unfortunately, I don't have knowledge on them and it's difficult to understand.

On the plus side, what I like is the modern character of The 13th Doctor.

The actress Jodie Whittaker is an incredible person and she was announced to the world in July 2017.

She's not boring and untidy.

I am not scared and I am not fearful of her.

I love her and she's not weird.

In the programme her character brings the wonder of full excitement and more considerate of the feelings of others than previous Doctors.

She has the steel and the determination to be who she is, she has an accomplished skill to be cunning and she likes to show her kindness if you've had a bad day.

Lastly, it doesn't matter which Doctor you connect it's the choice of whether you want to buy this item or not.

Not at all what is displayed in the pictures. So far the discs seem to work fine and I like the special features. As displayed, the discs are supposed to come in one package, instead they arrived in two separate cases, with completely different art work. The 2nd part of the movie has 3 discs (1 Blu-ray, 1 DVD, and 1 special features), and the little thing that hold the discs and flips back and forth was already broken when it arrived, and the plastic wrap didn’t seem to be completely sealed. They also each came with vouchers and codes for digital copies movies, which I was initially excited about, but both of the codes are long since EXPIRED (one expired in 2017 and the other in 2013). At this point it doesn’t seem worth it to return or exchange it since the discs are fine but it is TERRIBLE advertisement/subpar packaging and I am VERY ANNOYED about the expired Digital Copy codes. I literally just wanted to replace one damaged disc in my complete set of Harry Potter movies and got stuck with this. Very bad.

This is a handy little unit. Simple and effective.

For some reason, the builder of my house thought that just one outlet was needed in the garage which drove me nuts. I picked up this 6 outlet adapter and it's made plugging in multiple devices in my garage much easier.
There are two, 3-prong plugs on the back of this (see my attached picture). I confirmed that the top plug powers only the top 3 outlets and the bottom plug powers only the bottom three outlets.

It's super simple to install. If you are planning to just use this temporarily, you can just plug it into your wall outlet as-is without having to remove your outlet cover plate. If you want a more "permanent" solution, remove the wall outlet cover plate (the center screw in the middle), plug this unit into the wall, and attach it using the longer screw that comes with this unit. Don't over tighten this screw, you just want it snug enough so that the adapter doesn't unplug from the wall.

This is not a surge protector. It's a simple, basic, grounded adapter (hence the 3-prong plugs on the back) that turns a 2 plug wall outlet into 6 plugs. It's rated at 15 amps (which is more than likely what your wall outlet is rated at) so if you overload the circuit breaker for the outlet you have this plugged in to, it will trip the breaker.

It doesn't have lights, or a bell, or buttons to push. It's not Bluetooth compatible. You cannot control it with your phone, voice, or hand gestures. It is un-hackable--however plugging your computer into this does not make your computer un-hackable. It is a deterrent for saber-tooth tigers, because since I've installed mine, I haven't seen a single tiger.

It is made in China. It does work. It works well.

####UPDATE 10/25/2016####
It's still working great and still no sign of tigers.

I’m a solid size medium, but I size up sometimes to get a relaxed fit. I ordered a medium because I wanted a snug, sort of tailored look. The top is made of a stretchy chambray fabric, so it molds to your shape. I love the fit, it’s exactly what I wanted. It hits right at the natural waist, so it’s a little short for my taste but I plan to style it with high waisted bottoms so I don’t mind. I’m 150ish, 5’6, 34B

All-Clad SD700350 Slow Cooker, 7 Quart, Silver
I love cooking and I grew up in a family that loved All Clad. So I was pretty disappointed when I unwrapped it and found that there were all sorts of little divots in the black ceramic insert. It almost looked like it was covered with little flecks of cardboard particles. So thinking, well this is All Clad, I'm sure they have a solution for this embarrassing product, I called the warranty line. The woman who answered seemed like I had interrupted her day by calling. She told me that the soonest she could send anything out was six months from now, and only if they agreed that it was sufficiently imperfect. Wow! She was absolutely unapologetic.

So I returned it and ordered another. This one still had a few of those imperfections, but it was fine. The thing that surprised me this time was that the metal housing got really hot. We got this so that kids could serve themselves mac and cheese at an upcoming party, but it would burn them.

The one thing this product has going for it is the brand name and the fact that it's pretty. In short, you get form over function with this product.

Oh i do love this pot!!!. It is not easy to clean but so many more great features. One thing i found was there are safety features not explained in directions like:
If the cord is not securely pushed ALL the way in then the pot will turn off... At first i thought it broke until when removing the contents i realized the plug was making only a slight connection. Boy was that a relief!! Also if on high it will turn its self off temporarily until cools down or you add more items to pot that reduce the temp.

For example I use it to make asian inspired soup meal for one so i fry up the onion, garlic and meat first in sesame oil in the pot, then add a bit of water and reduce it down a bit... When it gets to hot ill see the light go off so i know its time to start adding remaining water, seasoning, noodles & veggies and let it come to a boil. I then turn it down to warm and ad scallops or shrim, and / or toppings like seeds and bean spouts etc..
Because of this recipe this is the BEST electric pot ive owned...

PS lasted more than 6mo now ...longest ive ever had one and i use at least 3-4 times a week.

My wife wanted this item to primarily cook whole eggs in. She says they taste way better in this than just boiling them. But we had to find out how to do that from our neighbor. This unit is quiet and works as expected...but. It would be great to see a very much needed expansion of its cooking capabilities. Others foods with cooking times and cooking modes. Otherwise I just paid $200 for an alternative egg boiler. It's a pressure cooker basically....so where can I find additional uses for it. We are not big rice eaters, but really like this cooker and want to expand it's usage. Any help would be appreciated. This unit is nicely built and ls aesthetically pleasing on the counter top. It does take up some room though.

I am very allergic to High Fructose corn syrup. Well I have ordered this product before and it did not have this ingredient in it. So I ordered again and did not look at the Ingredients. I was out on a cruise and started to eat the candy and soon I had my day ruined because I go sick and had to spend the day in the bathroom. I then looked at the ingredients and found they change them and added High Fructose corn syrup. They need to change the picture of the ingredients so people like me that are allergic will not waste our money on this product. Very disappointed they had to add High Fructose corn syrup.
