Learning Angular for .NET Developers: Develop dynamic .NET web applications powered by Angular
This is a very poor book - easily the worst technical book I've ever read. It contains numerous typo's and the explanations of key concepts are difficult to follow due to the poor grammar, poor layout (the code examples don't have line feeds in the correct place) and mistakes / out of date information. I'm calling out the explanation of routing on pages 72 - 74 for a special mention, for which I had to go the the Angular.io explanation to make sense of what the author was trying to say; that is a very clear source and helpfully explained the word 'hero' which pops up randomly in this books typo's - it comes from the samples on Angular.io. Amazingly the poor explanation of Services in Chapter 3 refers to a better explanation of Services in Chapter 2 - like a different author wrote it or a person with amnesia. When I started working through this book I said to a colleague that I found it helpful that it was full of mistakes as it encourages reading around and experimenting - but after the random garbage at the end of Chapter 3 I've been prompted to write this review as it's so bad that someone with little experience should stay well clear of this!
Merchants of Truth: The Business of News and the Fight for Facts
Merchants of Truth: The Business of News and the Fight for Facts
What a breath of fresh air this book is.

In an age increasingly characterized by narrow-minded fanatics, here’s someone capable of writing good things and bad things about the same people and organizations.

At a time when more and more writing is either totally in favour of its subject or totally against it, Jill Abramson has provided fair and balanced coverage of four news organizations—the York Times, the Washington Post, Buzzfeed and Vice.

This is really four books in one. The reporting is so thorough that each story could stand on its own as a separate volume.
Abramson has done a tonne of interviews—more than 100 at Vice alone—and the result is a detailed look inside each organization with a steady stream of great anecdotes.

Mostly, it’s a great read. The only exception is the description of the technologies Buzzfeed uses to manipulate readers. This is pretty tedious going—it’s about dull people doing dull things, after all—but it’s an important part of the story.
In this 534-page book there are a few sentences that weren’t directly attributed to their sources, but given that the book has 70 pages of source notes, surely those were honest errors of omission.

When Abramson was executive editor of the Times, a glance at the online headlines each morning was a guaranteed adrenaline rush, the stories were that interesting. I’ve never experienced that before or since—in any publication.

As for the the subject of her book—the future of news—my takeaway is there is no secret to the news media’s survival.

While all four media groups are endangered, the New York Times, according to Abramson, is furthest along the road to survival, thanks largely to four million paid subscribers. Abramson credits a gutsy decision by the then publisher. Although the experts said it would never work, the Times began charging for online subscriptions, and the ensuing financial turnaround is now history.

It's ironic that the new media (Buzzfeed and Vice) have embraced the failed business model of old media—heavy reliance on advertising revenue. (Paper newspapers traditionally got the lion's share of their revenue from advertising; subscription revenue was secondary.)

Meanwhile, the Times, got nearly two-thirds of its 2017 revenue from circulation. Ad revenue is now a secondary stream.
While journalism is more than a business, the key to its financial success is no different than in any other business—give customers a product or service they want or need, at a price they’re able and willing to pay.

I was a little disappointed to see the book is all in black and white and no color photos.

The photo shown was rather misleading.

I don't mind but I ordered it for my 9 yr. old Granddaughter and they tend to dis anything not

in color.

A great book even though things have changed quite a bit since it was published.
Queen Sugar: A Novel
Queen Sugar: A Novel
I wanted to read this book because I heard that the TV show was amazing (I still have yet to play catchup and the new season is about to start). This book did take me longer to read but that was not because I didn’t enjoy it. Quite the contrary.

This book here ya’ll gave me all the feels- I laughed, got angry, cried and did it all over again. The characters remind me of my family even though the story is based in the south. All families have those relatives that you don’t want to be bothered with and love from afar. If you don’t, there is an elder that will quote scripture on you and condemn you if you don’t show them love (lol- I know that one first hand). You also have those cousins that even though you don’t see or talk to them every day, you can pick up where you left off and feel like you never missed a beat.

I found Charlie’s story to be very inspiring. It’s one of strengthen and determination. Just when you think all the odds (being a widow, single mother of a teenager and the ONLY black female sugarcane farmer in a white male dominated industry) are against you, she still pushed through. Even with the help of others, she embraced the bumps along the way and found her footing all because she wanted to honor the legacy of her father. After all, this was not her destiny. She even manages to find love along the way. CAN WE SAY WINNING and #BLACKGIRLMAGIC.

I am no critic, but for this to be Natalie Baszille’s first novel, she did a phenomenal job and I look forward to more from her. I would even like to see a possible part 2 to this book as she left me wanting more.

*** Also, to my readers out there, I have been told not to compare the book to the TV series as there are slight difference in characters or even versions of the story. In my opinion, the novels are always better.***

Don't Burn This Book: Thinking for Yourself in an Age of Unreason
Lots of historical inaccuracies and bizarre conclusions at odds with each other. I think Rubin needs to imbibe more ideas, this book is sorely lacking in them. Whoever edited this book did Rubin a big disservice. Maybe it was intentional though, the history in this book is so abysmal that maybe the editor wanted Rubin to sound like an ahistorical fop? If so, well done, mission accomplished.

This book is very easily read, if you’re flying bring another book, unless your flight is 40 minutes long.

World Gone Wrong
World Gone Wrong
This was a straight up follow on from the previous year's "Good As I Been To You" - Dylan with his acoustic guitar and harmonica, singing traditional folk and blues songs, enhancing them with his nasally, croaky ageing voice. He would have seemed to have been made for this material at this point in his life. The songs on both albums actually sound like Dylan songs in many ways, so they don't ever really seem like covers albums.

The songs on here are more rural blues than eighteenth century folk airs, more sombre perhaps than the previous album's folky narratives. The sound quality, as it has been on the previous album, is clear and sharp, as is Dylan's voice.

TRACK LISTING

1. World Gone Wrong
2. Love Henry
3. Ragged And Dirty
4. Blood In My Eyes
5. Broke Down Engine
6. Delia
7. Stack A Lee
8. Two Soldiers
9. Jack-A-Roe
10. Lone Pilgrim

The title track is a mournful blues, immaculately sung with dignity and gravitas. "Love Henry" is one of the folkier songs. It is no surprise. however, upon listening to the lyrics, that it is about a woman murdering her lover. Most of the songs on the album are dark in nature, but, thinking about it, most folk/blues songs are. "Ragged & Dirty" has a finger-picking' guitar backing and a real blues lyric of extreme poverty. "Blood In My Eyes" is another mournful blues, with some strong, melodic guitar. There is something that seems more essential about the choice of songs on this album, it has to be said, although it has proved not to have been as popular as its predecessor.

"Broke Down Engine" has a guitar intro that briefly sounds like Elvis's guitar man. Elvis loved Southern blues, so he no doubt used his love of them when composing the song. It is a "Lordy, Lordy" upbeat but yearning blues sung out of desperation and deprivation. "Delia" is a song of a "gambling girl, who laid her money down....". It is a song of the old West as opposed to a Delta blues. Again, the guitar work is crystal clear and the vocal suitably sad and evocative. You feel this is a real labour of love for Dylan. His love and respect for the songs is clear to hear. "Stack-A-Lee" is another Western gambling tale, one that has been sung by many over the years.

"Two Soldiers" is probably the song that is derived most from the folk ballad tradition. "Jack-A-Roe" and "Lone Pilgrim" are both folky blues, bleak in nature, as has been the whole album.

As with Dylan's recordings of "Great American Songbook" crooners, he ran the risk of producing one too many albums in the same style and of covers as opposed to his own material. As good and interesting as these two albums were, he was wise to leave it at that after the two albums. Unfortunately, with the crooners, as I write, he has yet to behave as wisely.
Bob Dylan - Roads Rapidly Changing
Bob Dylan - Roads Rapidly Changing
This is an excellent critical and historical walk through Dylan's early career. Those who prefer light narration and mostly music performance would be advised to look elsewhere (for example the Newport Folk Festival DVD set). For those of us who love an in-depth discussion and celebration of the contributions he made to music and songwriting during this period, this is a great gift, with insightful commentary by some of the best music reviewers and documentarians in the business. The series is continued by three other DVD sets: After The Crash (1966-1978), Both Ends of the Rainbow (1978-1989), and The Never Ending Narrative (1990-2006), all of which are well worth the time, depending on the part of Dylan's career you are most interested in. I love it all, and have seen all of them. My only beef is that the two most famous albums of his career, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde, are not covered by this or any of the other DVD sets. How could they leave out that crucial period of post-Newport '65 through the '66 World Tour??? Anyone know of a documentary by this set of reviewers/commentators that covers that?
Out Cold
Out Cold
This is one of my all time favorite movies (right up there with Grandma's Boy, Super Troopers, and Euro Trip) It's a hilarious movie but if you don't like somewhat stupid and crude humor you probably won't enjoy it nearly as much. zach galifianakis is hilarious, this is one of the first movies I ever actually saw him in and I have been a fan ever since. This is a great fun movie and will totally make you wish you lived in Alaska, worked at a ski mountain and had friends like these. The car scene... no one can tell me they watched that and didn't immediately wish they could pull that prank on a friend. The characters are lovable and hilarious, all of them (Pig Pen, Jenny, Rick, Luke, Anthony, Lance...) and this is one of those movies I watch over and over again and never get tired of it, and I quote it all the time. I highly recommend this to any and everyone!

Cantonape 1000W/2000W(Peak) Car Power Inverter DC 12V to 110V AC Converter with LCD Display Dual AC Outlets and Dual USB Car Charger for Car Home Laptop Truck (Black)
This inverter is fantastic for what it is. My issue was simply before purchasing I did not understand the difference between a pure sign wave and a modified sign wave. I used this inverter everyday all day for 3 weeks and it did everything I asked it to. However do to my not understanding how inverters work and the difference between the 2 kinds lead to frying to my cordless power tool charger. Do to this i have ordered a (much more expensive) pure sign wave inverter for work and I will continue to use this inverter for powering things that have simple electrical systems and less frequently as well.
If you want to power something with simple electrical components like a fan or lights then this should do it. However if you are trying to run a battery charger for power tools or a laptop it might be worth looking at a pure wave inverter.

Diamond Tester+60X LED Magnifying Glasses Jeweler Tool Kit Combo, for Novice and Expert - Diamond Selector II 9V Battery Included(Diamond Tester+)
This tester works great when you have it set right. Bought it for my girlfriend because she loves diamonds. (No surprise there)
We recently went to the Arkansas diamond mine and I found what could be a 3 carat diamond. But we also brought back a 5 gallon bucket of field dirt. She went through it in 5 days and found 3 more maybe's.
Got the tester today and read the directions.
Make sure to read the directions, otherwise your toenail might be a diamond.
Anyway, she tested the stones in the pictures and all came up diamond. We also had a black rock to keep the tester accurate.
Now shes testing my patience with all these cups of little rocks in them. Not sure if they are from the bucket or just the driveway.
But none the less, the thing works. The eye loupe isnt bad either. Bright lights and clear lenses. I would recommend this tester.

Bamboo Toothbrush and Travel Toothbrush case (4-Pack with Cases) - Wheat Straw Travel Toothbrush Covers - Soft Bristle Toothbrush - Natural Toothbrush Materials - Wood Toothbrush
It's a good product. I spent weeks looking at different options online, and eventually chose this one because it came with multiple toothbrushes plus plastic-free travel holders. Would be great for a family but I bought them for myself.

The holder is the perfect size and fits the toothbrush perfectly, but it does not have enough ventilation for the toothbrush to dry inside it. After just a week of use, the bamboo parts of the toothbrush got all moldy from staying wet inside the case. Personally I don't like exposing my toothbrush to "bathroom air" which is the whole reason I bought a set with holders, so that was disappointing.

But it was a simple enough fix. I soaked the toothbrush handle in diluted bleach for a day to kill the mold and I've found somewhere else to store the toothbrush after use so it dries properly. Have not had a problem since.

The bristles are pretty soft. I prefer a firmer toothbrush and some of the reviews complained that they were quite hard, so i thought they would be a medium firmness. But no they're actually soft. Just something to be aware of.

Packaging was great, the four toothbrushes were inside the holders, which were inside a perfectly sized cardboard box. No plastic whatsoever.

All in all, a good purchase. I have a year's worth of toothbrushes now and a nice set of colorful holders that I can give to family members.

In Secret [Blu-ray]
In Secret [Blu-ray]
Based on Émile Zola’s novel Thérèse Raquin and with an outstanding cast that includes Jessica Lange and Elizabeth Olsen amongst others, this could have been an excellent film. Unfortunately I didn’t find it to be.

It is often the case that one doesn’t notice things that are done well but that they are noticed, when done badly or at least less than well. I was very much aware of the fact that the cast were acting – had I not been aware, then they would have delivered a convincing performance, which they didn’t do for me in this film. Why was this? Was it down to the director? The main cast in In Secret is made up of very experienced, excellent actors, so why did they come across so poorly to me? I don't know why, but they did.

Throughout, the film was poorly lit. It made me wonder whether the sets were of poor quality and that if they were shown in near-darkness, well nobody would notice.

Director Charlie Stratton has had much experience of directing, though mostly television films and series, but he is a director I will probably avoid in future, such was my disappointment in this film.

At four minutes and fifty seconds into the film we are told that it is based on Émile Zola’s novel Thérèse Raquin and also based on the stage play Thérèse Raquin by Neal Bell. It did have something of a nod to the fact that it was based in part on a stage play (which is not necessarily a bad thing) as they weren’t many sets, but could they not have let the audience see those few sets – was it down to budget that we don’t get to see half of what is there?

After more than five minutes of the film the opening credits stopped and the film continued. I can’t say that I found it to be a bad film, but it was one where I felt it lacked something but couldn’t say any one specific thing that was actually bad.

At least the end credits appear with the closing music playing after the film has ended – and the music was ok!

Not a film I will be watching again.

The attention to detail is amazing! This Pop! is SO cool! He's bigger than the other Harry Potter Pops, so he looks FANTASTIC displayed with them because he TOWERS over them, like in the movies!

Considering there are hundreds of workers producing and painting thousands of these, it's amazing that the paint job is as good as it is. This wasn't too expensive (even though these are VERY COLLECTIBLE & POPULAR!), so that makes the attention and care all the more impressive.

VERY good value. I highly recommend! There's a character for almost everyone and what Funko hasn't made, they're sure to do so in the future!

You could easily give a Pop! as a gift to everyone and you'd be able to EASILY match them with one they'd like!

American Baby Company Supreme 100% Natural Cotton Jersey Knit Fitted Crib Sheet for Standard Crib and Toddler Mattresses, Royal, Soft Breathable, for Boys
This bed sheet is very nice and soft, super cuddly. Compared to the more expensive bed sheets i bought so far that were all kinda hard and stiff, not as cozy as this one. Therefor it is definitely very good and worth the purchase. Especially since the material itself is still strong and does not suffer any loss in quality.

The reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that for one, it is kinda tight. Our child has a standard baby / toddler mattress and the outline seems are on top of the mattress, not on the side. It doesn't look right and you can see that it is not fitting. And yes we made sure that the stated measurements fit our crib. The other reason for only 4 out of 5 stars, is that the picture shows a way darker blue than it actually is. It is not bad and a clear blue, but it doesn't really fit to the blue's in our nursery so that kinda sucks. But our kid likes it as it really is super comfortable and it is here, so we might as well keep it.

Hawkins Hevibase Induction Compatible Pressure Cooker, 3 Litre, Silver (IH30)
The order was delivered 2 days back. It was our trust on Amazon that we did not open to check whether the product delivered was the right one or not and whether it was in a good condition. There is a marriage setting at home. The product was supposed to go to Bride's home. By god's grace, I luckily opened the package so that it can be packed with some other items. I along with my family members were shocked to find a broken cooker with a burnt base inside. Clearly, someone had tampered the package because when we connected the dots from the day of the delivery, we remembered that the product was delivered without an amazon package and only was covered with polythene with a bill attached on top of it.
Whoever, the culprit may be. I and my family saved ourselves from a major embarrassment by opening the package before gifting it to somebody else.
What were you doing Amazon?! I had heard stories of such mishandling but had never accepted them until I faced it myself.
The trust was built over a long period of time and in just 2 mins everything went into a dungeon.
Kindly take stern actions and do not take this lightly.
