Electron Projects: Build over 9 cross-platform desktop applications from scratch
The book walks the reader through creating multiple Electron Projects with the integration of modern frameworks such as React and Vue. It has example projects like games and even a music player. This is a pragmatic option to get started with software development using the Electron framework. I think it also provides valuable insight into alternative workflows for the experienced developer.

In Search of Jimmy Buffett: A Key West Revival
In Search of Jimmy Buffett: A Key West Revival
I chose to read this book based on the title, cover, description, and my own love of Key West. It was a quick, light read, but didn't feel like anything new or special to me. I was surprised at the simple plot with almost no conflict whatsoever. The main character had no trouble finding employment, cushy housing, friends, and a love interest with little to no effort and absolutely no struggle. I didn't care too much about Livie because I didn't know enough about her, particularly her past relationships or mistakes. The story was told through the eyes of Livie's best friend Blair, and that didn't work as well as it could have. Blair was hardly part of Livie's story at all, so she just came across as a pretty silly storyteller. I did like the end, but it didn't seem to match the rest of the story. It was more introspective than better than the shallow meanderings earlier on. I did not like how a minor character was described. She was overweight and her appearance was ridiculed by the narrator. "Pillsbury dough arms" seemed nasty and unnecessary. Livie's mother was also an annoying character, but her father and brother we're tolerable. I didn't love this book, but it was OK. I certainly loved the setting. It kind of read like the author's fantasy life goals, particularly at the end. Fine for a beach read. Thank you to Net Galley and the published for allowing me to read an ARC.
Becoming Facebook: The 10 Challenges That Defined the Company That's Disrupting the World
Becoming Facebook: The 10 Challenges That Defined the Company That's Disrupting the World
A decade ago if I wanted to tell people about a good book I’d read, I’d write a review on Amazon and post a link to it on some forums I’m active on. Today, it never really occurred to post a review of Mike Hoefflinger terrific new book Becoming Facebook on Amazon. Sure I’ll eventually get around to posting this on Amazon but it’s pretty low priority. This says volumes about the importance of Facebook today, and also why this is an important book for people to read.

Mike is uniquely qualified to write this book. Bruce Schechter and I first meet Mike back in early 94, when he was talent computer chip designer at Intel. We were forming Intel’s first online marketing and Mike was already a web/internet fanatic. He taught us how the net worked, he made us read SnowCrash. and soon we spread out across Intel preaching the gospel. THE INTERNET CHANGES EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO START WORKING ON THE INTERNET NOW!!!!!. Now, mind you this is one year before Amazon shipped its first book or any internet company you’ve ever heard of existed. The next year, Intel’s legendary CEO Andy Grove got the internet religion and our jobs got much easier. Shortly afterward Andy, picked Mike as his technical assistant because he knew more about the net than anybody in the company. In Jan 2009 joined Facebook as VP of global marketing working for COO Sheryl Sandberg, and closely with Mark Zuckerberg. As an engineer turned marketing exec, Mike is able to explain both how Facebook works as a platform and as a business. He is also a mighty fine writer and a good storyteller.
If you are doing business, you almost certainly should be advertising or at least experimenting with Facebook ads. Mike explains how advertising in Facebook works in a way which should help you make your FBs ads more effective. This is also a great book for entrepreneurs. Managing a hypergrowth environment, in the world most dynamic industry is embedded in Facebooks DNA. Each chapter leads off with a lesson, Facebook’s solution, and a question the entrepreneur should be asking. Finally, you should read this book if you want to get a behind the scene look at this thing that a billion of us spend an hour a day using, and get a glimpse of its future.

The book is divided into four parts. Setting the Scene, 10 challenges on the road to becoming Facebook, the Future, and Parting thoughts.

The heart of the book is the 10 challenges/chapters. Some like how Mark Zuckerberg turned down a billion offer from Yahoo when Facebook was an also-ran, are a perfect example of why we aren’t billionaires and Mark is. Others, like how Facebook grows are applicable to any business. Does everyone in the organization understand your mission, what your core product values are, and how you measure success?
Some of the most interesting chapters to me were the technology for making the Facebook application so fast in multiple dimensions. From the software and hardware behind making sure the Beyonce’s life stream isn’t lagging for millions, to making sure that my friends get to see popular pictures of my huge furry cats with no waiting. The process beyond continually enhanced the Facebook experience was also fascinating.
The biggest ah-ha moment for me in the book was understanding how Facebook advertising works. From the beginning, advertising has always been in conflict with the consumer. It doesn’t matter if its the annoying inserts in the Sunday paper, or the 10 minutes of ads in the last 5 minutes of the football games, pop-ups on the web, or the 15-second ads before a YouTube video. By having a keen understanding of what it is users like and dislike, Facebook is able to insert ads into a user's newsfeeds, that are at worse benign and in some cases actually perceived as valuable to the user. For example, I’m going be getting a new cell phone in a month or so, I expect FB to give me a lot of ads for cell phones, which is just fine. This turns out to be a win-win for consumers and advertisers. Those people who are concerned about the information tech companies have about you won’t be comforted by the chapters.

However, they may be comforted by the Facebook mission to connect all the people of the world and the obvious dedication and passion Zuckerburg has to make it happen. It is really remarkable the amount of money and management attention FB has devoted to trying to connect the poor of the world in India, Africa, and Asia. At some point the world’s poorest maybe profitable for FB, but that is likely to be decades away. It is a remarkable long-term vision, akin to Elon Musk’s goal of making humans a multi-planet species.

Interspersed throughout the chapters, Mike talks about the people behind of Facebook. This is the one area where I think the book fell short. Mike does an excellent job demonstrating that in no way is Mark Zuckerberg an accidental billionaire, as others have called him. Instead, he possesses a maturity well beyond his years, a rare insight into both people and products, and the courage of his convictions. But perhaps because Zuckerburg lacks the large than life personality of somebody like Steve Jobs (aka being a huge jerk), I didn’t really get a feel for what Zuckerberg is like. As for the rest of the Facebook staff, I appreciate that company is filled with a ton of certified (e.g. Ph.D.) smart folks who work really hard, but they ended up being interchangeable to me.

My favorite chapter was about the future. The Facebook of ten years from now, much less twenty years will be a radically different experience. The combination of Virtual Reality and augmented reality, along with artificial intelligence all combined with Facebook deep knowledge of our preferences, will not only pamper us when want to be but constantly challenge us to move outside of our bubble and experience different viewpoints and different experiences. I can hardly wait.

The penultimate chapter is something that would only happen in a book written by Silicon Valley insider in a place that celebrates failures. It is a laundry list of all the things Facebook has tried to do and failed miserably at. I loved it. Embracing failure is the most important piece of Silicon Valley DNA that rest of the world needs.

Becoming Facebook isn't a beach read, but it is a book that after you finish, you'll find yourself saying "wow I never knew that".
The Complete Guide to Hunting, Butchering, and Cooking Wild Game: Volume 2: Small Game and Fowl
The Complete Guide to Hunting, Butchering, and Cooking Wild Game: Volume 2: Small Game and Fowl
I am a fan of Rinella's from watching "Meateater" and listening to his "Meateater" podcast. I bought his first book "Meateater: Adventures in the Life of an American Hunter" and was hooked.

I bought this book via Kindle but after a once-through reading decided to buy the paperback version of it so my other family members could read and reference it too. Once I got the book in hand I re-read it and I'm glad I did. For whatever reason I picked up a lot more from the paperback than I ever did from the Kindle version. I guess it probably has something to do with the reference-book feel this book has and the ability to skip around and gather in the whole picture of what this book offers up. The Kindle format works really well for a novel or a mono-formatted book like a historical non-fiction.......this book is neither.

One thing I want to point out about Rinella..........his style of writing (and talking) and his methods, tools and attitudes towards the animals and pursuit really make sense to me. As a transplanted Mid-westerner now living and hunting in the West myself I can really identify where he's coming from on having to evolve from Midwestern traditions and methods about hunting to the Western US approach to the critters out here in the West. Until I'd read Rinella I hadn't stumbled across anyone that eloquently and accurately describes this transition.
How Jeff Bezos Can Fix Health Care: Leading the Transparency Revolution
How Jeff Bezos Can Fix Health Care: Leading the Transparency Revolution
In her 1997 book, Market Driven Health Care. Professor Regina Herzlinger from the Harvard Business School forcefully introduced the concept of a consumer driven health care system that would empower people to make health care service choices based on quality (real or perceived), price, and availability (access). This is in contrast to a payer driven system that induces people to use certain health care providers who have agreed to a discounted payment schedule. In her book, Professor Herzlinger lays out the key concepts that make such a system work for the benefit of all. While some progress has been made over the past 23 years since the publication of her book, the U.S. health care system remains mostly the same.
In his book, How Jeff Bezos Can Fix Health Care, Steve Hyde provides the missing links that inhibit a major move to a more consumer driven system. These links include easily obtained transparent information about provider quality, actual cost to patients/consumers before services are provided, and provider availability. All this is accomplished with an easy to use technology platform that enables consumers to compare choices in the market in a way that does not exist today. The other missing piece to make such a major change in the health care system is a private sector powerhouse champion, hence Jeff Bezos who has revolutionized the consumer purchasing marketplace.
Whether you favor a more centralized single payer system such as Medicare for All or private sector consumer driven system as proposed by Steve Hyde, this book is essential reading for those who what to better understand what may be possible to make our health care system function better of all citizens.
The Insider: The Private Diaries of a Scandalous Decade
The Insider: The Private Diaries of a Scandalous Decade
The Insider is an addictive read, providing compelling insight into newspaper editing and the role tabloids play in politics and public relations. Intriguing enough just to revisit ten years of scoops and scandals, it is most interesting to see how liberally supposed news stories get 'splashed' recklessly over tabloid covers without serious substantiation or attempt at impartiality. It also gives character to the hitherto invisible journalists behind these vitriolic, hectoring papers - often foul-mouthed, hard-drinking egomaniacs it seems - and exposing the hypocrites and sycophants in the world of celebrity. The question you have to ask yourself while reading this is whether Piers Morgan is to be trusted. The world he appears to inhabit is the same slightly dubious reality that the tabloids reflect, and Morgan is a shameless name-dropper who enjoys boasting of his relationships with Diana and Tony Blair. He seems fit to burst with smug satisfaction at doing over his rivals and is quick to point out how clever he is. He likes to think that he was, as editor of a major tabloid, one of the most powerful people in public life and politics, depicting the government as pandering to his whims. I think he overstates the case, and is perhaps a little naive, but this is no less enjoyable a read for that.
Oprah Winfrey Speaks: Insights from the World's Most Influential Voice
Oprah Winfrey Speaks: Insights from the World's Most Influential Voice
When I think of Oprah, I think of "awareness." Her presence on earth is to bring us all to the awareness of our potential. If you want to know more about her life, Janet Lowe will take you on a journey through Oprah's life. Within a few hours you will see Oprah in a whole new light.

What I find most fascinating about Oprah is her love of reading and quotes. Those are things I can relate to well. Now it seems, I have been collecting "Oprah quotes!" Throughout this book you will find Oprah's wisdom presented in an organized fashion in sections so they relate well to the topic.

Oprah speaks from a background of adversity. The events of her life have changed her, yet she has decided to take charge of her destiny and become a positive influence. Her background is almost shocking when you think of who she has become. The contrast is sharp and it is very apparent that she drew on an inner strength.

The book begins with details of Oprah's roots in Mississippi and her educational background. There is a discussion of "Harpo" and how she deals with her fame and fortune. Her generosity is impressive and her efforts for children's rights are commendable.

There are some things in life money can never replace. I was saddened by some aspects of her life and see how her own sorrow, abuse and lack of a loving relationship with her own parents early in life influenced her. Some of the best things in life are free. Money helps, but I don't think it heals the longing we all have for love.

Oprah's love of reading has encouraged others to delve into knowledge and better themselves. She also enjoys writing in a "gratitude" journal. Janet Lowe brings out the positive and negative aspects of Oprah's life. With more than 22 million American viewers hanging on her every word, she continues to have the instinctive knack of feeding their desire to find meaning in life.

Oprah started me reviewing because after seeing Gary Zukav on her show, I wanted to know more about the books she was talking about and knew others would also want to know more. I thought maybe I could help others see what was in his books.

Oprah sent me on a journey to delve into the minds of our time. A journey of discovery I have just started on! For that I thank her.

Mind Mapping: Improve Memory, Concentration, Communication, Organization, Creativity, and Time Management
Mind Mapping: Improve Memory, Concentration, Communication, Organization, Creativity, and Time Management
`Mind Maps' offers exactly what it promises - it helps you to improve various parts of your brain functioning, for example, memory, concentration, organization and more. As someone that is self-employed, I want to be as efficient and effective in my work as possible, which is why I bought this book.

The book really does start from the beginning, so even if you're a complete beginner and have never tried mind mapping before, you can still get involved easily. Going back to the basics, the book tells the reader exactly what a mind map is and ho w to create and accessorize one. It then goes on to say how such techniques could be useful; in taking notes, lectures and presentations, gathering research and assembling information, collecting thoughts and developing solutions, and much, much more.

I was also surprised to note that there is even a section on writing; fiction and non-fiction with details on structuring paragraphs, getting specific, and so on. This was definitely an added bonus - I hadn't been expecting this information, but I certainly found it useful.

I eagerly absorbed all the information given on planning, making lists and setting goals - all of this is useful in the work that I do. And the better I do the planning, lists and setting goals, the more I'll achieve. I suspect even the information on group mind mapping will be helpful in the future, when I work on my next co-project.

What I liked best was the fact that the book is sympathetic towards different learning met hods, and how different people are. It helped in this respect by providing information on varying types of mind maps - so there's something in there for everyone.

Rounding up with details of mind mapping software and apps, I came out feeling like a veritable expert on mind maps. I just have to put the knowledge into practice now! Overall, I feel this book will definitely help me to become more efficient in my work. The easy to understand instructions and writing style ensure that anyone can read it and learn about mind mapping techniques without feeling intimidated.

So, if you're interested in mind mapping, grab this book and you'll find a method that's right for you.
Leadership Roles and Management - Learn How to Rise Up to the Leadership Challenge ((Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Barack Obama))
Leadership Roles and Management - Learn How to Rise Up to the Leadership Challenge ((Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Barack Obama))
At first I thought this book would only serve me for the leadership position I convey as an airline pilot. However, as I read this book I came to realize that true leadership comes not only in the form of work and career, but in my family, community and my own life. There were such valuable insights in this easy-to-read booklet that I know I will reference it again and again. I appreciate the author taking the time to consider the multi-faceted leadership skills. Must read for anyone looking to improve and get an edge in the paths of career, family and relationships.
The Inventor's Secret: What Thomas Edison Told Henry Ford
The Inventor's Secret: What Thomas Edison Told Henry Ford
I loved reading biographies as a child. THE INVENTOR’S SECRET: WHAT THOMAS EDISON TOLD HENRY FORD is a book about curious and imaginative creators I would have cherished. The opening immediately draws one in with wonderful language and the enticing lure of a secret. Author Suzanne Slade begins the story focusing on the younger years of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford (16 years younger than Edison). The reader observes the thoughts and experiences of Thomas and Henry through Jennifer Black Reinhardt’s rich and detailed watercolor and ink illustrations.
As Henry grows up and keeps hearing about Thomas’ inventions, he is beyond curious and wants to know how they work. I love how Slade crafts their first time meeting in person over several pages. This meeting where the secret is shared changes both of their lives forever and a 30-year friendship forms. Beyond the skillful story and inspired illustrations, all of the information shared at the end of the book is a phenomenal bonus.
From the joint timelines of each man’s life and an explanation of their friendship to details about their inventions and informative source notes, this book is a wonderful addition to any personal collection (it is now in mine) as well as being a great gift (I got one for my sister’s third grade classroom too).
It has been awarded the National Science Teachers Association’s 2016 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K-12.
Aretha's Jazz
Aretha's Jazz
Look, don't get me wrong here, I LOVE Aretha. But this CD, IMHO falls short in it's entirety. HOWEVER, Aretha singing "Crazy, He Calls Me Crazy" is incomparable and simply glorious. It is in my top three of best Jazz Vocals of all time. On the other end of the spectrum, her treatment of "Moody's Mood" does not do the tune justice at all. All in all, as anyone knows, Aretha Franklin is one of God's gifts to the world of music, with a voice and a style beyond compare. It's just that this recording, with the exception of the aforementioned tune "Crazy, He Calls Me Crazy" is quite forgettable.
Positively Bob: Willie Nile Sings Bob Dylan
Positively Bob: Willie Nile Sings Bob Dylan
1 first encountered Willie Nile in 1981 when I bought his lp Golden Down. The album quickly became
a favourite which I listened to over and over again. Then somehow I lost touch with him and his music.
It was only lately that i discovered that I still had his lp in my collection and realized
with regret that I had neglected his music for much too long. So I checked out what he was recording now
and noticed that his latest cd was a compilation of some of Bob Dylan's signature songs. Being a long
time fan of Dylan I decided to purchase it right away. I received it all the way from England yesterday
and have so far listened to it twice. I am at a loss for words to describe how Willie Niles's renditions
of Bob Dylan's songs absolutely blew me away. If you like Bob Dylan I would highly recommend that you
purchase Willie Niles's Positively Bob cd. You will not be sorry. I'm going to try to get the lps/cds
that he's recorded since Golden Down.
Let's Do...Organic Heavy Coconut Cream, 13.5 Ounce Can, White
Let's Do...Organic Heavy Coconut Cream, 13.5 Ounce Can, White
Did you say "KETO"? What is this HEAVY stuff mean? So, you're on this new adventure with being fat adapted, which means that instead of your body & brain wanting sugar/carbs that turn into glucose/glycogen...you burn both sugars AND fats. So, how can this help? Well, read on...

As YOU can see in the photo...this heavy coconut cream is thick! Much thicker than the Thai coconut used only for soups...yummy there. I just pulled this out of the refrigerator and it is like loose jello before it has fully hardened. You can see the indentation still on the surface from my spoons scoop.

And in the photo you see my Saturday morning HEAVEN. There is the metal coffee drip filter which I used with a doubled coffee filter which had been rinsed with ordinary tap water to remove paper flavors...so, you see a 3 day cold brewed French Roast fine grind coffee slider that has NO BITTERNESS & IT IS NATURALLY SWEET TOO. 2 TABLE of Heavy Coconut Cream...and today stronger Vietnamese rather than Madagascar cinnamon sitting right on top of my coffee. Then, my home grown limes which I tested with a MICROPLANE wonder. This zest adds a subtle brightness to my cup of Joe! Peruvian organic cacao sits on the left glass jar...none today. On the right are salt from Maldon in the UK and a Japanese seaweed salt in which each grain seems to be "handmade" from the inland seas...magical.

But I digress!

The coconut flavor is spectacular!

In case you didn't get it, it's simply out of this world!

Does it taste like raw coconut? Well, actually it tastes like heavy cow's cream which sat in a mound of fresh coconut pulp overnight. If someone didn't tell you there's no dairy and that there is coconut...YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY MISS IT COMPLETELY. Again, just a slight hint of coconut.

As YOU stir it...it gently evenly mixes with my cold coffee.

Recall, this keto friendly coffee has NO BITTERNESS because I brewed it without the heat which pulls out the acidic oils that are bitter! So, my coffee is deeeeee icious! Want some? I know you do.

The kiss of zested lime sits on the top of my cup as if it was a floral note...like sipping coffee on the front porch of a bungalow on the island of Bora Bora after a gentle rain left birds chirping on the still damp leaves...sipping coffee, watching the sun rise, feet up on a railing...letting the mind wander over the best Heavy Coconut Cream with lime zest, Vietnamese cinnamon and cold-brewed coffee. Heaven! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Samsung Galaxy A51 (SM-A515F/DS) Dual SIM 128GB, GSM Unlocked - Prism Crush Black
Samsung Galaxy A51 (SM-A515F/DS) Dual SIM 128GB, GSM Unlocked - Prism Crush Black
I purchased the 128GB with 4GB ram model in all black. My wife's S8+ that was close to becoming non-functional and I needed a new phone asap. I had previously purchased an A20s for my son and so I first ordered the A30s until I did some research regarding my mobile provider T-Mobile in the US.

I cancelled the A30s and got the A51 primarily because of the supported LTE bands. T-Mobile uses the following bands
2, 4, 5, 12, 66, 71
The A30s only supports band 5 from the that list!
However, the A51 supports band 2, 4, 5, 12 and 66. I was gladly willing to pay a little more to ensure I had maximum connectivity with my carrier so I cancelled the A30s and purchased the A51 instead.

Now with that primary consideration out of the way, on to the rest of the review. I'll start with the best parts first.

1. Call quality, reception and connectivity
The call quality is excellent on this phone, right up there with my s10+. I think the microphone quality has been improved because my wife loves using the speakerphone and on her hold s8+, her voice occasionally cut out here and there as the mic tried to pick up her voice. Also, the sound quality of the voice has improved as well which further helps to understand the conversation. Reception has been about the same compared to my s10+, which is to say pretty good. We measured on signel strength and asu. The mobile data speeds are excellent even in areas that are typically weaker in signal strength.

2. Screen
Samsung AMOLEDs are the best in the business when it comes to screen quality. We are a little relieved the screen is not curved because this allows us to get a robust case to protect everything. The colors, quality and resolution are all indistuingishable compared to my s10+. The front camera is a tiny pinhole so the entire body is pretty much all screen. There is an in-screen fingerprint reader which is optical, rather than infrasonic on my s10+ but it is still reasonably fast to unlock the phone. Yes it is slightly slower than my s10+ but we're talking milliseconds of difference.

3. General usability
My wife is not a gamer so I can't say anything about the gaming experience but she does use a ton of media and productivity apps. For all of her use on them so far, she says they feel snappy. They all open fast and transition well and she multitasks as much as before without a shred of difference. When we first setup the phone, we were concerned because there was some UI lag but realized a lot of processing was being used during the Samsung Switch, which transfered her entire old phone to the new phone. Once the switch was done, we rebooted and the phone was responsive and fast.

4. Camera
The camera hardware has some beefy specs. But for a mostly point-and-shooter, it's hard to really go wrong many camera setups. Picture quality looks great in the light and not as good in the dark compared to my s10+. The slower camera speed is noticeable, transitioning between the main camera/wide/macro takes about a half second, where on my s10+ is pretty much instant. The shutter is just as fast, luckily. If camera speeds are important to you, you would probably not be happy with this phone.

5. Battery
I have to admit, we were looking forward to getting more usable time out of the battery. The battery is 4000mah unit and the s8+ was only 3500mah. However, through the typical daily use, we found that the end-of-day percentage left were about the same. We average about 4 hours of on-screen time scattered throughout the day with app use and web-browsing and the battery was around 40% left, which is the same as the s8+. If long battery life is important to you, you would not be happy with this phone but keep in mind, it can easily last an entire busy day on a single charge.

Overall, we like the phone for the price of under $300.

Marvel Doctor Strange Artfx Premier Statue
This one was by far the coolest and best one out of all the other Artfx Premier statues I have bought thus far. I have almost all of them now. The rocks that light up with a usb cord sets it apart from all the others. Paint job and likeness is unbelievable. Highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed.

L'articolo in questione è One Piece New Edition 1.
Karma with a Vengeance
Karma with a Vengeance
As an only child, 27 year-old Karma Alfonzo-Walker is very close to her parents especially her mother Soleil. Her parents have been separated for some years now since her father Lorenzo keeps his family second to his Military career. Soleil has had enough. And until Lorenzo decides to make her first priority, they will stay apart. Until then Soleil, a beauty in her own right has been keeping company with Jimmy, much to her daughter's Karma disgust. To say Karma didn't like Jimmy would be an understatement...she can't stand him! But with respect to her mother she tolerates him hoping one day Soleil would come to her senses and leave Jimmy behind. Karma is upset with her dad and wishes he would retire from the Military and come back home. She knows deep in their hearts her parents still loved each other and that Jimmy would not be apart of her mother's life if her dad was around.

But tragedy strikes leaving Soleil dead and Karma feeling like the police aren't doing enough to find her mother's killer. Indigo, Karma's cousin and a police officer is none to happy when Karma expresses her need to avenge her mother's murder and take things into her own hands. While Karma maybe putting herself in danger to find her mother killer; she also finds love with police officer Money, Indigo's partner. As her plans for revenge start to take shape and her relationship with Money becomes intense, revelations from the past begin to surface throwing a disturbing light on Karma's new relationship.

I predicted one event prior to it happening, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of this story. As I kept reading nothing prepared me for the in depth back ground information on Soleil and Karma told by the author's timely steps back into their past. I was astonished, at the repercussions of Soleil's abuse that trickled down to Karma paying the price, and I felt the author did a good job developing the love between mother and daughter.

Yes, Karma with a Vengeance is an excellent title for this recommended read. I like the characters enough to want to read the sequel, so I'll wait and see what author Tash Hawthorne has in store for us.

This star rating is based on the story alone, as I read an uncorrected proof copy of the book.

The Vision
The Vision
I finished The Vision about two weeks ago. Work keeps me quite busy. Here I am now, giving you my review for a decent book. Stick around and see what I think.

The Ugly: There are two instances in the book, just two but enough to drown out the book, where Mr. Koontz made one paragraph a complete sentence. All he did was kept saying “and” over and over again. It was like a complete rookie mistake. I don’t think he could have made that as a conscious effort. It was two run-on sentences that lasted almost an entire page.

The Bad: Even though there is an epic twist in the book, it was one you could see coming from miles away. There were way too many red herrings in the book to count. You could see them the second you read them. The only reason I’m not putting this as “the ugly” is because of the nice twist.

The Good: The story is best part here except for the obviousness of who the killer is. I’m not trying to give too much away because of the surprise, but just know, out of the works he has written up to this point this is the best story. Hopefully the writing gets better.

Final Thoughts: I was going to give this a 4-star rating, but those two sentences that ran for most of a page took away from the book. They aren’t until towards the end of the book, but enough to hurt the book. I would say read it.
Bridget Jones's Diary [Blu-ray]
Bridget Jones's Diary [Blu-ray]
i will first of all state that as a millennial, intersectional feminist this movie immediately offended my core values-- but it is one of the best movies i've ever seen and i will continue to rewatch it. observing it with a modern eye you can obviously spot sexism, sexual harassment, women falling for men who don't seem to deserve them -- but the message is much deeper than that. regardless of the decade personal relationships are nuanced and feminism can offer insight to that without changing the fact that this is an insightful and beautiful piece of art, depicting how the 2001-era woman who was challenged by love and under-appreciated professionally viewed life. Her societal value was not centered around her personality or skills, but rather around her relationship and reproductive status. bridget jones's diary addresses these tough topics head-on and almost sarcastically, as few pieces do, and ensured that while this was a rom-com her self-worth did not actually fall upon a man or society's expectations of her. this movie also did a great job of tongue-in-cheek addressing sexism, inappropriate behavior from "uncles", sexual harassment, double standards, power imbalances and the struggles of even successful, long-lasting marriages. i think this film was far beyond its time and its reputation shows that. renee zellweger was the perfect bridget and i'm so so happy to have seen this series. all in all -- watch this, reflect, ask your mom about her experiences as a 30-something, and then watch the next two films. young people might not know as much as we think we do but addressing complex, masked pieces such as this can help us expand our mindset.

Come and Get Us (BookShots)
Come and Get Us (BookShots)
Summary:
A family trip takes a deadly turn when Miranda's car is deliberately run off the road.  Her young daughter is shaken, her husband badly hurt, and there's no help in sight.  Miranda must move forward, climbing a mountainside in search of help.  Her husband's parting words: "Be careful who you trust."  What exactly has he gotten them into??? Dodging killers and running on fumes, can the family make it out alive?
My thoughts:
Holy heck, what a ride!  Buckle up and make sure to allow for a lot of suspension of disbelief.  While there is a lot going on that, let's face it, would never really happen... isn't it that way with most action/ thrillers?  This one may be a bit over the top, but it was fun, interesting, and, as promised, a lightning-fast read.  The story was really perfect for a bookshot.
I enjoyed the main characters, Miranda, Aaron and little Sierra.  I liked the dynamic between the three.   The premise caught my attention right away, and I was really interested.  It quickly became a favorite of mine.  Five Stars!
On the adult content scale, I give it a four.  There is some language and violence, but I have honestly read worse in a YA novel that I still handed to my 13 year old niece.
Word of Mouse
Word of Mouse
This is such a lovely story about Isaiah the little mouse. Sadly Isaiah started life in a laboratory and has been bred especially by the laboratory for experimental purposes. He has 96 brothers and sisters and the laboratory has tagged him on the ear with his number, 97. He is bright blue like the sky and turns out to be a very heroic and smart mouse. He manages to escape with his family of other mice but he is the only one that does not get recaptured.

The journey he goes on as a lonely mouse soon turns to adventure with lots of interesting and clever adventures. He is not your typical common mouse but a rather special mouse that has plenty of unique and useful talents.

The book is very witty, funny and touching. It is beautifully written with lots of words and facts that are slipped in that parents would be happy for their 9 - 11 year old children to know.

Each chapter starts with a quote from none other than Isaiah himself. He is a very charming and brave mouse and regularly reminds his fellow mice that they are mice not rats and therefore superior.

The story has of good morals throughout. There are lots of parts that are very touching, cute, compassionate and sweet. He even has a love interest. The illustrations are amazing and really catch the mood of the scene being described.

I highly recommend this book, it is very special and so beautifully written. I read it in a few hours and couldn't put it down. I was keen to know how it was going to end and the ending was just as special as the rest of the book.

After reading the book it makes you realise that we are all one, we are not that different from Isaiah really ;-)

I have the kindle version and have added photographs.
[By John Grisham] The Rooster Bar ( Hardcover)【2017】by John Grisham (Author) ( Hardcover)
[By John Grisham] The Rooster Bar ( Hardcover)【2017】by John Grisham (Author) ( Hardcover)
I find it difficult to believe that Grisham wrote this book. I struggled through to the half way point, telling myself i was eventually going to find the plot and enjoy the book. Didn’t happen. I just couldn’t force myself to read another word. Early on I got the point of the monumental rip-offs of student debt and for-profit diploma mills but to have this hammered at the reader every few pages got to be a bit much. Perhaps if the characters were likable or even interesting, but not that either. And to think it was OK for them to be scamming the poor and vulnerable in need of legal aid — just another turn-off of this book. My advice on this book is to leave it on the shelf.
The Thundering Herd
The Thundering Herd
The Thundering Herd is a decent adaptation of the Zane Grey story.

Dell Comics didn't wear the "Comics Code Authority" seal, soon after Congress and others accused comics companies of contributing to juvenile delinquency, since their comics were "good comics."

And it's true. Their four-color issues were fun to read and dealt with wholesomeness but also tended to sugar-coat the realities of life as here on the open prairies.

The Kindle version starts out with a nice painted cover of a cowboy as he tries not to fall off his white horse as it rides atop a fierce bison buffalo. Quite a dramatic cover to convince any 10 year old boy to pull out that dime and get some Western stories.

The Kindle version has a Wiki article on Zane Grey (which obviously was not on the original comic book), giving the reader some background on Zane, such as his rough childhood and depression as he carved out a writing career.

The Dell comic tries to do this too in comic-strip form, but sugar-coats it. Family is supportive and people who rejected his stories are looked on as crazy editors, quite a stretch from the Wiki story. Zane was a dentist and soon gave it up for the Wild West, and with the help of his wife who organized things, he became a successful writer, if a pretty bad, neglectful husband.

Stories and Plots:

The first story is the bio of Zane Grey himself, with the modest title, "King of the Westerns." Zane is seen as writing the Lone Star Ranger (later the Lone Ranger!), and his story's impact in the movies, novels and on radio. In 1939 "he came to the end of the trail" but his legacy lives on, etc., etc. Art is not bad. Writing tends to be a bit over the top.

Title page has a cool article on the Sequoia Tree, where you can ride a whole Wells Fargo coach through it!

Main Story: The Thundering Herd stars Tom Doan, who hooks up with some guys who want to go out buffalo hunting. To the modern reader, the hundreds of buffalo mercilessly shot down by rifles, with their meat wasted and hides stretched to sell at market might be a bit much, but that was apparently how things were in the Old West. The Indians are looked at as hostile savages. The women, supporting their men.

One such woman meets Tom and they immediately take a liking to each other, but she has a mean father in law and she's not "of age." Good dynamic tension here, though hackneyed in its execution.

The art is stiff but shows good action between man and horse and buffalo. Enjoyed the close-up panels with action and excitement. Some panels take up the entire middle of the page as Tom rides hard through a herd.

A few tear-jerkers as Tom thinks Milly Fayre is dead after an Indian raid. This girl is tough to kill as she uses a herd of buffalo to disguise her escape from Indians. Yeow!

Written Story:

Some sections of the comic are pure story text without much illustration. This one was about young Jim Harkness who gets his first rifle. His dad is proud of him. Jim runs into a bear and then things start happening. It's one page, and gives some decent pointers on power and responsibility.

"True Western Adventures", about Jesse James' gang trying to hold up a bank, and a particularly plucky banker who won't let them do it. It's great how the town gets together and starts shooting at Jesse and the gang shoots back, yet not ONE person gets killed by a bullet. Bad shots! At the story end, Dell Comics encourages the kids to read another Zane story, "The Trail Driver." I just might, but it may cost more than the ten cent cover price!

A cute article about the modern cowboy "At Work, At Play." Nice picture of a mesa and a cowboy looking out on the prairie, as we learn of the attitudes and hard work the cowboy enjoys.

Finally a cute article from Wrigley Juicy Fruit Gum (keeps your teeth clean, kids). Dopey Dan rides his bike recklessly and doesn't obey traffic rules. Safety Sam though always does these things. Which do you think Wrigley's wants you do be? There are no morality articles in today's comics, unfortunately.

Kindle Quirks: You can just slide your finger across your Kindle to "turn" the pages, but it's hard to read. I tap on the screen twice to enlarge the page, read it, then tap again to activate the slider. The slider doesn't work when the page is in "enlarge" mode.

Bottom Line:

Interesting history of the West, with one of the more prolific writers of westerns, Zane Grey. The stories are fair, which is too bad. I'm sure the actual novels are richer in description and characterization. The morality plays in the comic are heartening though it's way too bad today's comics don't do this.

Recommended.

I just love my new Peter Rabbit Collection. The books came in a beautiful, colorful Peter Rabbit theme box displaying many of the other characters. The small latch opens easily with my little fingers and the small size books fit in my hands perfectly. I enjoy looking at all the pretty pictures and hearing the stories about Benjamin Bunny, Squirrel Nutkin & Mrs. Tittlemouse. Thank you Beatrix Potter for loving children and writing these beautiful books. Mzgrandma's girl

The Mediterranean Caper (A Dirk Pitt Adventure Book 2)
The Mediterranean Caper (A Dirk Pitt Adventure Book 2)
(I've read it three times now--previous reads were in 1987 and 2004). Everything you expect from a Pitt story--the slam-bang action, the exotic locales, exotic women, maritime and/or aviaition historical elements, the aura of mystery, the almost -larger-than-life megalomaniacal villains, the oceanographic technology, Pitt's coolness under fire, suaveness, and flair for smart-aleck humor (especially when bantering back & forth with faithful sidekick Al Giordino)--are all here. Even after 40 years, this book still stands the test of time.

Only a couple of nitpicks keep me from giving this book a full 5 stars:

(1) I would expect a fellow U.S. Air Force veteran like Cussler to know that the proper name for the F-105 is the Thunderchief (or "Thud"), not the Starfire (the USAF *did* have a Starfire, but that was the F-94, which was retired in 1959, 14 years before "The Mediterreanean Caper's" original publication date).

(2 The so-called Bureau of Narcotics had been officially renamed the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) in 1968 and again as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 1973.

Those minot criticisms aside, a highly enjoyable read and a wonderful introduction to Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt (and Al Giordino, Rudi Gunn, and Admiral James Sandecker) alike!

The Twilight Saga: The Complete Collection (5-Disc Blu-ray + Digital Copies)
If you're a big fan of the Twilight Saga, then you're going to love this set. If you don't yet own the movies on blu-ray, then this is probably the set you'll want to purchase. If you do already own them, then you need to decide if an upgrade is worth it. I'm not sure if it is, but below is a breakdown of exactly what's in this set (the most important of which is 2 hours of new Bonus Features) so you can decide for yourself.

The packaging is double-sided, with Edward/Bella on the front and Jacob on the back. The blu-ray discs come housed inside an exclusive photo-album case (with the discs inserted into the pages rather than in normal blu-ray cases). Unfortunately, while this type of book-style packaging is nice to look at, it has been known to scratch the discs - you'll want to be very careful removing the discs for viewing.

Clifford's Happy Days: A Pop-Up Book

I purchased this for my 4-year old great-grandson. He really likes how the pictures pop up. He wants to open it over and over. I have to slow him down to read
It to him.
James Bond. Moonraker.
James Bond. Moonraker.
I was a little surprised people could be so positive this was Ian Fleming's best Bond. Then I read it. They are right. And before I go on, this has nothing to do with the Roger Moore film. While the book is set in England, it has a simple but coherent plot and an excellent villain, described in some distasteful detail not I suspect to the liking of dentists, and a very good opening scene. Fleming does not try to write a dense convoluted book. Everything is simple. Bond is on great form and the relationship with Gala Brand very interesting. A surprise ending. I recommend this novel.
Tales of Student Life (English and German Edition)
Tales of Student Life (English and German Edition)
This is a little known book. There was no information about it on Amazon when I bought it, so I thought I would provide some. I actually bought the book thinking it was an English translation of Hesse's 'Hermann Lauscher', but it isn't, and, sadly, I don't think that any such translation exists.

This book contains three titles, two of which are incomplete. It starts with the novel fragment, 'Berthold', written in 1907. Berthold appears to be the prototype for his 'Goldmund', some twenty years later. Next comes the completed short story/novella, 'Friends', also written in 1907. The book concludes with two separate versions of the so-called 'Fourth Life'. Anyone who has read 'The Glass Bead Game' will be familiar with the three stories at the end, known as the 'Three Lives'. This additional story was originally intended to be the 'Fourth Life', but it was not completed, and may have been dropped because Hesse considered it too long for that purpose.

Despite the obvious drawbacks associated with uncompleted works, I found this book worth reading. The fragment parts were fairly self-contained, and many of Hesse's customary themes and skills are demonstrated here. There is also an Introduction by Theodore Ziolkowski, and they are always worth reading, but it should be noted that this Introduction does some contain some references to plot details for several of Hesse's later novels.
Pretend You Don't See Her
Pretend You Don't See Her
I just finished reading "Pretend You Don't See Her" for the second time. I will definitely be reading it a third time.
What I liked about the book:
It is highly believable that when a (in this case) young woman more or less witness the murder of another person, she will be in a great deal of danger. As she is the only one to have seen the, thought to be dead, murderer, her danger is even greater. Now the murderer, in this case Sandy Severano, has a great incentive to kill her, and he is eager to have it out with Lacey.
I also really liked the uncertainty about who was the murderer's informant. It wasn't until the last few chapters that it became really clear who the culprit was.
What was problematic about the book:
Would a woman who knew that she was on the hit-list of a murderer, and had been taught how to behave as a witness-program person, enter into her old field of work? Would she also take the chance of informing her family of where she was? Perhaps, but I'm not certain I buy that. This does increase the suspense in the book. Without having a clue of where Lacey was, Sandy would have a difficult time beginning his search for her. It still made me unhappy. This was the only difficulty I had with this book.
All in all I thorougly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to any and all.
Laced: A Regan Reilly Mystery
Laced: A Regan Reilly Mystery
I bought this book for the reason that Carol was the daughter of Mary Higgins Clarke, the well known mystery writer, but discovered that Carol is right up there her Mother as a great writer in her own right! I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of intrigue set in Ireland with a honeymooning couple, complete with thieves, art collectors, a castle with a "ghost". With a multitude of suspects throughout the book, it kept my attention to the end. Also being of Scotch-Irish descent, I enjoyed the striking descriptions of my forebears country without the expense of going there! Will be ordering more of Carol's books.

CODENAMES: Harry Potter Board Game | Based on Harry Potter Films | Officially Licensed Harry Potter Game | Harry Potter Merchandise
**Important Note: I adore both Harry Potter and Codenames. I was wanting this for a party game when I throw parties as my group of friends loves Codenames.**

Pro's: Overall, I think it is well made, the pictures are cute and it has potential. I like that there are pictures on one side and words on the other, so, you can play with younger/older crowds or more knowledgeable/more muggle crowds.

Cons: It is more complicated than the original version. Instead of there being two teams/colors on the board based off of one key, both teams look off of the opposite side of the key card and work to find everything. This means that some of the clues are muggles/civilians for one side of the table and death eaters for the other. This is just extra complicated and I don't think plays as well as the normal version. Personally, I'm going to combine the versions and play so that it's the normal rules with Harry Potter clues.

Overall: 3/5 as it is good quality, just didn't provide the entertainment I was expecting.

The prologue, leading to the tale of the discovery of the story (the Scarlet Letter is presented as a story-within-a-story) is long and leaves the reader impatient. Since it pertains to a different location and time from the main story, it is not quite clear how it enhances the tale.
The depictions of human feelings are exquisitely detailed, which is fairly remarkable because they are almost invariably gloomy feelings of guilt and shame. The pace, very slow at first, picks up towards the dramatic denouement, followed by a rather unsatisfactory conclusion. One wishes that the author would have thumbed his nose at the Puritans and allowed Hester Prynne a happy life ever after, but Hawthorne does not violate the moral conventions of the age and the conclusion would therefore have satisfied the most moralistic readers. No happy ending here, except for the one innocent character, so everyone who sinned paid the price, amen.
Seen in the light of the moral tradition in which the novel is set, and the barely less strict society in which it was written, the quality of the writing serves the purpose of moral edification beautifully. The long sentence, with their complex embedded clauses and dated vocabulary, is sometimes hard to follow, but always limpid once parsed. In that sense it is reminiscent of another moral tale of the age, Melville's Moby Dick, minus the see and with a different capital sin involved.
Overall, this is one of the canons of literature that should be part of the weel-educated reader's collection.

LEGO Harry Potter: Knight Bus (4695) Polybag
I have just received mine through the post and when I saw it was only £30 I honestly I would open it to find half the peices but to my amazement it was brand new never been open, I knew when I bought this it was the smaller module but I'm really glad I didn't order the bigger module that's over £100 but if people want to spend that ridiculess money to end up with half the pieces missing then that's a more of a dissapointment to me , at least with this you can build it completely with out gaps
LEGO Harry Potter: Aragog In The Dark Forest (4727)
LEGO Harry Potter: Aragog In The Dark Forest (4727)
I admit I do not love spiders. However, plastic spiders are okay. The plastic spider in this Lego set is pretty cool, and while it could have been better, it is fine for limiting the scare factor for younger children.
The challenge factor is limited in this relatively simple Lego set. It is relatively easy to build. However, I do like the opening in the tree for the owl, and the spider web trap that activates when pulling a secret drawer was a nice touch to what would otherwise be a dull Lego set.
The tiny spiders are printed on bricks, thus making them no easier to lose than a standard Lego and similarly no more fragile than a standard Lego.
While the big spider, which is about hand-sized, is not terribly scary, it also minimized a couple of aspects to keep the scare factor low. The fangs are a single piece with minimal movement. The abdomen moves independent of the rest of the body, which is realistic. The two back legs articulate forward and back allowing a limited range of posing. However, that is the extent of the realism, and the average child will learn more from a good article in an appropriate magazine than from this toy. The lack of realism in the spider and the toy's relative simplicity are the main reasons I rate the educational value as only 3 stars.
The toy is a Lego, with all the Lego durability and quality. I enjoy the web trap a lot, which changes what would have been a 3 star Lego set to a 5 star set in terms of fun. I wasn't quite sure why coins were added to the secret drawer that activates the web trap, but more is always better, and the coins can be used as an aid to create your own adventures.
This Lego isn't one of the better Harry Potter kits, but considering the importance of this scene in the second Harry Potter movie, it is an important kit if you plan to collect most of them. I do like the spider, in spite of its inaccuracy, and I like Legos with moving parts better than those without. The price could be the next bracket down for Legos considering what you get. Overall I'd rank this kit as a lower overall value compared to some others, especially in the Harry Potter series, but I'm glad we have it!

SJT ENTERPRISES, INC. Life is About Dreams. Teachers Make Them Come True. 5" x 10" Wood Sign Plaque (SJT94217)
My teacher friend recently moved to another state where she didn't know anyone, so I sent this as a surprise gift for her birthday for her first day of school. She absolutely loved displaying it in her classroom! It was a bit smaller than I anticipated, but I may not have looked at it closely enough when purchasing...after all, it was sort of last minute (I'm such a good friend...)

Overall, great value, perfect quality, good buy.
Otamatone [English Edition] Japanese Electronic Musical Instrument Synthesizer by Cube / Maywa Denki, White
Otamatone [English Edition] Japanese Electronic Musical Instrument Synthesizer by Cube / Maywa Denki, White
I got this on a whim because, well because look at it!

I certainly wasn't expecting much beyond the novelty of it. But then I took it out of the packaging, turned it on, and started to mess around with it.

It's so freaking cool.

Now, I'm just a campfire guitar player so maybe my opinion doesn't have the gravitas of someone who has studied music and instruments. But one doesn't need to have spent time at the Berklee College of Music to see that the Otamatone does what piano, violin, oboe, and harp do: produce tones in reconizable notes.

And better yet, it's intuitive and easy. It has three pitch settings (low, mid, high) that kind of translate to octave scales (though not exactly) so you do have a decent range, and like any string instrument moving up the neck provides a higher pitch, and down the neck makes it lower. One can either play the neck as slide, or as if it were fretted. When played as a slide it sounds quite a bit like a theremin. Even cooler, squeezing the mouth gives you an almost wah-wah peddle effect.

The downside is that the volume is kind of low, it does eat batteries like potato chips, and it isn't very responsive so there's no way to shred on this like Zappa going wild on the guitar.

But I find myself noodling on this thing at the oddest moments. And not for nothing the cost is reasonable enough to make this a really cool gift for anyone with even a passing interest in music. The bonus is the look on my dogs' faces when I set the pitch to high and move all the way up the neck. It's like doing a killer solo onstage. Almost.
Ravensburger Harry Potter Mini Memory Game
Ravensburger Harry Potter Mini Memory Game
We bought this for my daughter who thinks Harry Potter is the best thing ever. To be fair you don't have to be a fan to enjoy this. It's a brilliantly simple game that passes the time when the kids are getting restless. Just line the cards up face down and off you go, taking it in turns to try and remember where the matching pairs are. It's great to see the kids actually thinking instead of mindlessly annihilating alien species on the X Box or Play Station!
With regards to the actual cards, they are made using good pieces of thick board so should last quite a while or at least until the kids have grown up and moved out!

Charming jungle-themed crib mobile. Unique crochet style animals do not overwhelm but draw your attention. The music box has a volume adjustment with an on/off switch. Melodies offer a nice calm variety of music; a very good value and great idea for a shower gift. Colors and design are nice for either a baby girl or boy; crochet arm covers allow for adding a tiny pink or blue bow for an extra touch!

These balloons are wonderful. Got them for my child’s 5th bday. The picture is taken a week after the party and they are still inflated fully! I don’t understand the review the one person did who said they deflated within hours. Mine are still looking good a week later. None of them popped Either. I just simply tied balloons with a regular knot. I recommend these balloons. Nothing negative to say.
The Legend Of Bhagat Singh
The Legend Of Bhagat Singh
Note: The film is presented in Hindi with English subtitles.

Background/Synopsis: Bhagat Singh was an ardent follower of Gandhi in his youth but as he grew and witnessed the continued harsh treatment of his people at the hands of the occupying British he turned his back on the philosophy of passive resistance. This film tells the story of his transformation from his early pro Gandhi years to his defiance of British rule by meeting violence with more violence. His popularity eventually rivaled that of Gandhi and many would make the argument that if not for Bhagat Singh the British may never have embraced Gandhi's demands for fear of the alternative embodied in Bhagat Singh.

Critique: Some movies entertain, some inform. If one film succeeds in doing both than it is unquestionably a very good film. Sometimes a film rises to even greater heights by fusing the medium and the message in such a way as to give birth to an even higher art form. What is that special something I speak of? It's inspiration.

The 2002 release `The Legend of Bhagat Singh' starring Ajay Devjan as the revolutionary Indian freedom fighter and martyr is truly an inspirational work bringing to life tumultuous times in the history of India and providing the audience with an iconic, unforgettable portrait of a man of great conviction and courage. The film excels on every level; excellent production values, superb acting, well conceived story development and memorable soundtrack. However even with all the excellence one finds in this film there is still one thing that outshines everything else, the performance of Ajay Devjan. Ajay was born to play Bhagat Singh, exuding all the emotions and interior motivatiions that defined the man and his movement; idealism, hope, love of country, determination, defiance, self sacrifice and yes, hatred of the British. I would consider this to be his signature performance, absolutely mesmerizing.

Please watch this film and after you do ask yourself one question. Why are we all familiar with the name Mahatma Gandhi but we have never heard of Bhagat Singh?
Once Upon a Novel (Blue Hills Mysteries Book 1)
Once Upon a Novel (Blue Hills Mysteries Book 1)
Our heroine is a blog writer that gets in a bit of hot water. Now she has a murder to solve before she becomes the next victim.

I often struggle with first books in a series as too much time is spent on establishing the setting and characters and not so much on the plot. I am happy to report that is not the case here! We are still treated to a detailed setting and well developed characters, but we also get a thoroughly enjoyable plot to go with it. The story is well written and easy to read, while the plot has plenty of twists and turns to both keep you engaged and guessing at the same time. I particularly liked out heroine with her quirky sense of humor and easy going nature. Overall, it was a wonderful read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.
Cotton Baby Bandanas Boys Bibs for Drooling Teething Feeding for 10 Pack
Cotton Baby Bandanas Boys Bibs for Drooling Teething Feeding for 10 Pack
These are really good for drooling babies. I noticed my 5 month old holds his saliva so he’ll have a big pond of saliva in his mouth and just spits it all out and it causes him to get all wet in seconds. These hold up well. They’ll be soaked and still won’t go all the way through to his clothes. That being said I’m ordering more for him. I honestly love them. I’ve read so many reviews on so many bibs because I didn’t want to be mad when they didn’t work and weren’t absorbent and super happy they’d work for my little slobber boy. And they’re really cute.

Switch Charger for Nintendo Switch, AC Adapter Charger for Nintendo Switch Power Adapter Fast Charging Portable Charger 15V/2.6A (Support TV Mode and Dock) Switch Lite Charger with 5FT Type C Cable
I bought a Nintendo Switch second hand locally through Facebook and it didn't include the power adapter for the dock so I immediately looked to Amazon for one and bought this one so we can use it on the TV ASAP. I've had it for a couple of weeks and it works just fine. Charges the Switch well, and provides enough juice for the dock so the signal can go to the TV. I will update this review at a later time to attest to its durability but so far I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Here's an update several months later (7/23): It's still holding up very well! I was expecting it to die out by now but this product seems to be of quality. Highly recommended!

Hanes - EcoSmart P170, sudadera con capucha, Sudadera Ecosmart de forro polar con capucha, XL
I bought these because they were less than $11 on sale and are the color of my kids’ school teams, and all their sports require hoodies which I much prefer to pay $11 for than $30-40, it’s less expensive than even our wholesale, tax-exempt hookup through school athletics and we will add our our vinyl logos and such. This is a great price for a nice midweight hoodie. I bought one in every size for us- my teen daughter is an XS usually but got a small which is slightly large on her so very true to size, medium for average weight Mom, large for my tall teen son so he can wear his wrestling gear under, and XL for Dad with the Dad bod paunch. All are perfect. Haven’t washed them with anything other than darks so I can’t say yet how they hold up in the wash yet, but if they run like Forrest I will update.

Our little 1950’s bungalow doesn’t have any exterior electrical outlets, so when our first Christmas here rolled around, lighting up the house posed a challenge. We were delighted to find these solar powered Christmas lights. They came already charged, which was a nice surprise. They are not quite as bright as the plug-in lights we’ve used in the past, but they are pretty nonetheless.

We needed three strands to cover the front of our little house. It was a small challenge to get the three strands on the same blink/color setting at the same time. Also, the distance of cord from the last bulb to the solar panel is not long enough to reach the ground in order to stake it. However, we were able to secure the panels on the roof instead.

Finally, winter is very rainy where we live, so there were some days when there wasn’t enough sun to provide a full charge. Not a big deal to me, but if you live in a neighborhood with high expectations and not a lot of sunlight in the winter, you might want to stick with plug-in lights.
Moonglow
Moonglow
The new Avantasia album is an entertaining release with some solid songs but it unfortunately ends up being one of the weakest albums in the project's discography. While there is plenty of variety covering symphonic rock, pop rock, power metal, heavy metal, AOR and ballads, the songwriting is not as captivating as it was in the past.

The instrumental portion of the album is handled as usual by Tobias Sammet on bass and lead vocals, Sascha Paeth (ex-Heaven's Gate) on guitars, Felix Bohnke (Edguy) on drums and Michael Rodenberg responsible for the orchestrations. The list of guest vocalists includes Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Jorn Lande (ex-Ark, ex-Masterplan), Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids), Michael Kiske (Helloween, Unisonic), Geoff Tate (ex-Queensryche), Bob Catley (Magnum), Candice Night (Blackmore's Night), Mille Petrozza (Kreator) and Eric Martin (Mr. Big).

“Book of Shallows” is the heaviest song on offer and one of the best ones as well. It is fast paced and includes some powerful and heavy guitar riffs, a catchy chorus and nice vocal transitions between Hansi Kürsch, Ronnie Atkins, Jorn Lande and Mille Petrozza.

“Alchemy” probably contains the best chorus on the album and is another highlight. It is an atmospheric mid tempo melodic metal song with a darker atmosphere and some welcome heavier riffs. Geoff Tate blends well with Tobias Sammet and offers some nice vocal work that harkens back to Queensryche.

“Requiem for a Dream” is a fast power metal song with a soaring chorus and a major highlight. This is the only song to feature Michael Kiske on vocals and as usual he provides a stunning performance showing off his power and upper range. Although it is a signature Avantasia song it just works great and provides a twist with its atmospheric church chant intro and the inclusion of a bass solo.

“The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” is not perfect but generally works well and is another standout song. It is one of the longest tracks and the only to feature that many singers sharing vocals. The song includes some irritating modern keyboards and its chorus is similar to the Avantasia song Another Angel Down, but it is bombastic, catchy and features one of the best guitar solos on the album. In addition, guest vocalists Atkins, Lande, Martin, Catley and Tate do an admirable job and make the track a little more memorable.

Moonglow’s biggest flaw is the absence of catchy choruses on several tracks and the feeling of déjà vu in several song passages. The epic “The Raven Child” is the perfect example as it includes a Blind Guardian inspired intro, Iron Maiden and Savatage influences, an ending section that is identical to the Avantasia song The Scarecrow and a rather unmemorable chorus. Despite some great vocal work by Jorn Lande the whole thing ends up sounding unoriginal, boring and long. Another drawback is the general absence of guitar solos in the album. The last negative aspect of Moonglow is the fact that Tobias Sammet sings on all songs and doesn’t leave much room for the guest vocalists to fully unveil their talents.

Moonglow is definitely weaker when compared to the previous album Ghostlights. It is not a bad album as it is inspired, bombastic and offers some memorable moments, but it is not great either. It will probably sound good and interesting for someone not familiar with Avantasia, but for older fans it has unfortunately little to offer.

AirGoods Inflatable Travel Pillow 3rd Generation Neck and Head Support Pillow for Sleeping on The Airplane Train Car Home Office (Grey)
I received it and I tried it at home .
I think it will be the first time ever that i will be able to sleep in a long airplane flight.
It was easy to inflate with about 10 exhalations .My height is 1,70m (5’7”) and I found out this pillow amazingly stable and the standart position seems to be very confortable.
I dont see any reason to this item to be forbidden in some flights, as I read here in other comments. Firstly it is not so big as it seems in the pictures and secondly because it can be drained out in about 5 seconds.
The valve is easy to pull out and big enough to insert a finger inside it so the air drains out in few seconds.
I'm going to have a continuos 25hours flight (3 flights in a row with several hour between them) so I hope I can use this pillow !!
Otherwise I wont be able to sleep more than 30 minutes and I'll have the usuual dreams of beeing a circus contortionist .
I guess I'v made a great buy !!

VIVO Dual Monitor Stand Up Desk Mount Extra Tall 39 inch Pole, Fully Adjustable Stand for up to 27 inch Screens, STAND-V012
This thing is solid. I did not have the experience that some of other reviewers did as far as stability is concerned. This monitor stand Rocks!! It exceeded my expectorations especially for the price point. I got two HP Z22n monitors mounted and had no problems putting it together. The instructions are very clear and the mount comes like 50% assembled. The shipping was excellent, double packing, no damaged or missing parts. The box comes with almost all of the tools need except for a 1/4 nut driver. Currently I have the stand clamped to the desk, I am going to try this out for a while before I start drilling into the desk. As a personal choice I used zip ties and Velcro straps for my cable management, not that there was anything wrong with what was provided I know I have a lot of cables coming out these monitors. I am using all 3 input types plus power 8 cables total coming out the back. but if you look at the desk you could not tell. What you can see from my picture is that I have one cable that is hanging out, this is a 3 ft. cable that I had ordered, I'll need to replace that with a regular 6ft. If you have short cables coming from the monitors you might want to consider replacing them when you start tying the cables the extra slack gets taken up.The stand has a lot of tension points, so once you get everything the way you like it take some time to tighten everything up to about 90 to 95% tension, tight enough so it doesn't move on it's own but still flexible. Once you sit at your desk for a while you'll find your self adjusting to the perfect fit and this thing can do that. What is amazing is how much desk space I got back, it's as if I had a floating shelf for the monitors. If this starts to fail I'll be sure to update this post, but so far this is an awesome buy.

Jelly Belly Licorice Bridge Mix – 1 libra (16 onzas) bolsa resellable – Genuino, oficial, directamente de la fuente
I bought this because the nutrition info/ingredients page states that it was "A fat-free food * Gluten-free * Peanut-free." I was thrilled because almost all licorice contains wheat. I wasn't so thrilled to receive the product and saw that it says it contains wheat! And the "Gluten-free" tag above it was gone.

I wrote to complain about it because I went to return it and it's not returnable! It's false advertising! But I see that since I complained about that, they have added a spot where they list all of the ingredients now. But I look on the actual selling page at the "real" labels.

I'm out over $11 for something I would never have purchased if they hadn't played fast and loose with the labeling. And I never heard from them or from Amazon. I don't know why they won't give a refund on something that is their error! As of today 8-25-2020, that photo with the inaccurate Gluten-free designation is still on this!

Spent a lot of time in research to use in my printer, all previous inks that I used before were with worse quality (prints were usually pale, and hard to read). And I didn't expect something differ from this ink. It was a good surprise for us when we printed some pictures and texts even on plain paper it was pretty good. I will definitely recommend this ink, and will by it again in future.
