The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing: Fifth Edition
The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing: Fifth Edition
The reviewer who said that this book is meant for the "serious beginner" said it best. This is not a fluffy book -- it's more like a 3-month investment course packed into a well-written small volume and designed to make the reader fully conversant in the language of the market. Before I picked up this book, I thought that the Dow was an exchange, like the NASDAQ. No joke. After I read it, I knew more about long-term investing strategies, market terminology, and identifying companies with value than any of my attorney colleagues who have invested in the market for years. Most individual investors seem to invest blindly in large- and mid-cap companies like Target or Apple and in mutual funds without conducting their own research. This book is for you if you want to understand not only why traders care about P/E ratios, but also how you hedge against inflated earnings calculations by analyzing other fundamental criteria, like profit margins; not only how a dividend yield is calculated, but why it matters in determining whether a stock is undervalued; and not only how Dow companies are chosen but also how to reap the benefits of leverage when investing in Dow companies.

That said, this book is not designed for swing traders or day traders. While Jason Kelly claims to espouse both value and growth approaches to investing, I'd say that the balance is 80% in favor of value (identifying good companies with long-term profitability). He explains the fundamentals of technical analysis, but his primary purpose is not to teach how to speculate or predict trends using Bollinger bands or stochastic curves. His point seems to be that an investor should use graphs and technical criteria as just one of her tools to know when to buy, how to limit the downside potential of leveraged investments.

Their isn't much self-promotion. The writing is so clear that it takes the author's personal philosophies out of the equation and focuses instead on the more broadly applicable teaching points (bullet-pointed, even, after each section). If identifying value is not a strategy that appeals to you, you won't like this book. The book is basically a love letter to Warren Buffett and has very little of Kelly jumping off the pages, other than when we mentions his own free newsletter and website in a list of a dozen or so other newsletters and websites. (By the way this list included Kelly's reviews of many stock screener tools, good financial magazines, and the most useful stock newsletters. I used it to build my internet favorites folder, which I look at everyday.)

This book provides a comprehensive treatment of fundamental investing concepts and strategies. You can turn to other, more detailed texts if you want to learn how to trade like a trader, not like an investor.

Enjoyable read for any person interested in learning about how to become successful in business and life. Focus is on 10 billionaires who have made their fortune in a variety of different endeavors, but all share similar qualities and principles of success. In particular I liked reading about Elon Musk, as he is an inspiration to me as he started Tesla and Solar City, and is a real visionary and leader. Overall very interesting read and well written. Highly recommend.

The Essence of Success: 12 Mini Biographies: Richard Branson Bill Gates Nelson Mandela Steven Spielberg Stephen Hawking Chris Evans Frank Sinatra Tony ... and Virgin to Jeff Bezos and Amazon Book 1)
A good way to get a snapshot of several vivid figures from the 20th century.
There are a few annoying faults that do distract from the text:
1) Some chapters have clearly been digitised and not proofread. "Eve" is spelled "Iive", "He" is spelled "Ile" and "DOS" is spelled "I)()S". Really! This is the third edition; have you actually read it?
2) There are far, too many, commas in this, book. Some of which are, completely, inappropriate.
3) Although the 3rd edition was published in 2012, Tony Blair's biog ends with him in government. It also reckons he was 41 when he became prime minister in 1997, as well as asserting that he was born in 1953. Do the math!
In summary, it's worth the money, but won't become a treasured volume in your house.
The Feminism Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained
The Feminism Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained
One of the latest releases in the series, although I am also interested in feminism as a modern political ideology, its beginnings, diversity and disparity of opinion, different schools of thought, keynote thinkers and the like.

This is pleasingly comprehensive, it covers A LOT of trends and tendencies which I have found are not known about, in the main, or only seem to be known about by staunch supporters/devotees or staunch opponents/detractors. So, to that end, I checked to see, for instance, if the book had anything about "Anarcha-Feminism" for instance, I was not disappointed, a complete two page spread on it with keynote thinkers, quotes, pictures etc.

Then I considered would they have anything on all but forgotten trends such as "political lesbianism" or "compulsory heterosexuality" (two significant ideas/schools of thought during the eighties, which have simultaneously been "figures of fun", ie the comic character Ali G's repeated equation of feminism with lesbianism, and hotly debated). Those are present too, comprising very factual accounts in condensed form, usually (like I say some these trends and schools of thought have been hotly debated, from almost every single conceivable angle, it will be insufficient or just barely sufficient in scope for some readers perhaps but for a DK book I think it is what would be expected. Practically a book on a modern political ideology like this one could have run to a series of volumes). There are some more niche or margin ideologies or trends which are not represented, which are interesting to anyone who has had a more exhaustive interest in modern political ideologies, associated with feminism, such as the "Amazon" movement (which stressed strength and physical prowess, campaigned for equal roles in the military, first responder units and policing).

As with all of the DK range, I would praise the structuring of the content, it is set out into different phases or waves, so there is the "birth of feminism" (18th to early 19th century), the struggle for equal rights (1840 - 1944), the personal is political (1945 -79), the politics of difference (1980s), a new wave emerges (1990 - 2010) and fighting sexism in the modern day (2010 onwards).

Of course when it comes to feminism the use of the word "wave" denotes a particular idea, hence the chapter A New Wave Emerges, which has as its first sub-chapter "I am the Third Wave". This vindicates a particular idea that feminism itself is a singular or monolithic ideology which has progressed through a series of different developments or iterations denoted as waves, first, second, third.

I personally dont think this is the best way to consider the topic and have always preferred instead other considerations of it, which without assuming any sort of factionalism or internal sectarianism, feminism as being divisible into separate ideological schools of thought, ie liberal, socialist, marxist, radical, ecological. It is perhaps a minor complaint, it is also fair that the idea of waves itself is included.

However, that said, a consistent feminist liberal (sometimes libertarian or individualist, "iFeminist") would take issue with some versions of "the personal is political" as it may not permit a private and public/social sphere of life, the limited nature of political and public life or obligations and duties is a significant part of liberalism in at least its classical iteration at least.

Also the idea of progressing in a linear fashion through a series of waves of development ignores, to a certain extent, a certain "euro-centric" or "western" or "anglo-sphere" bias, if you want to describe it as that, as there are many parts of the world in which liberal, socialist, marxist iterations of feminist thinking have never emerged and later developments, such as political lesbianism (and the heterosexual or lesbian rejection of the idea), are almost inconceivable.

One thing this kind of time line has in its favour is that it can be a useful "foil to the discussion" of whether the various developments and innovations are signs of growth and diversification or instead deterioration and fragmentation (I've read convincing consider of either accounting for changes or tendencies).

The book ends with the MeToo movement, which is perhaps a good a point as any, there is a large glossary of terms, which is useful, directory of persons and an index. I think this is a really great addition to the range, I would hope that there are other modern political ideology books, conservatism, socialism and liberalism surely would possess as much topical range and development to warrant their own books. Recommended.
The Early Years
The Early Years
For anyone who grew up on Aretha, this offering is something you may have missed which makes it wonderfully refreshing. It is "unadulterated" Aretha: raw, gritty, full of power, and at times, grace. It is incredible collage of standards done Aretha's way, according to how she was feeling at the time. The ease with which Aretha sails up and down the musical scale througout this CD is electrifying. The way Aretha twists a lyric around a note here, is, even during these 'Early Years,' classic. At certain points it may make you cry out! This CD is "all that." I honestly consider it my best musical buy in a long, long time. I listened to the entire CD 5-times in the first sitting out of sheer captivation. Currently, I find myself revisiting it often -ever unable to listen to just one or two tracks. Anyone who loves "Re-Re" will instantly love this CD. Even as a supposed "novice" here, she commands a lyric and a note with m! ore skill and tenacity than any contemporary artist I've heard. This CD confirms her title as the reigning "Queen" -not just of Soul, but of the musical universe!

This bob Dylan cd is a great one and has most of his hits on it not all but enough to to rock my boat. This guy was quiet rightly a 60s Legend, and now as I write this April 2020 I firmly believe Bob Dylan to be a genius or mystic as we struggle to overcome coronavirus I listen to his words on this cd and tracks such as TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING,... Poetic well yes times are indeed a changing... But sadly not for the better! This good quality cd by SONY is certainly Sony quality clear beautiful sound no hiss, silent between tracks and a blast from the swinging 60s, surely the best decade the world has seen!? Certainly from the youth of the days perspective. The days of free love, flower 🌸 power, and CHILL out man, its all here on this beautiful album. Buy it and indulge in the 60s spirit.... Space out and get out of sight... Leave your problems behind.

I like this phone. After breaking multiple phones that had cases & gorilla glass, I needed something that was tough. So far, this phone fits the bill. It has accidentally been dropped twice now with no effects. I like how everything appears to be nicely sealed up, all coverings are secure. I like that it can hold a SIM card and a SD card together. The camera works great even in low light. The flash doesn't appear to overcompensate. Front camera isn't too bad either. I like the Android 8.1 version. It's not loaded with bloatware but does include a few unique apps specific to the phone in the 'Toolbox'. This includes compass, bubble level, pic hanging, height meter, magnifier, & plumb Bob. I have not used these features as of yet.
One thing that's a little odd to me is the long screen aspect. It's 16:9. Nothing really bad, I'm just not use to it. Also, I have not used the fingerprint unlock feature so I'm not sure how well it really works.
The downside of this unlocked version is my data connection. I can only get 2G with my T-Mobile service. Apparently the frequency isn't the correct one for my area or something like that. My calls & text messages aren't affected, only the internet data. This is very frustrating for me as I am a high web surfer & use to my previous phone having the 4G connection. I use my WiFi when I'm at home bc it's faster. So do your research & check the frequencies for your carrier if you enjoy 4G. Otherwise, the phone itself is great for my needs but will probably be passed on to my teenage son when he's old enough for a phone. He definitely will need the rugged toughness of this phone.
I will update as I continue to use it.

I use these for my business, they are great for events etc. I engrave into them and everyone just loves them! I would highly recommend these to anyone. Mine haven't come individually wrapped but honestly it isn't a big deal to me because i just get something else on amazon to put them in. I think you are getting an awesome deal for the quantity and if you really want them to individually pack them then i think they should raise their prices. This seller does a fantastic job at supplying these and shipping them out quickly! I couldn't give a better review!

Very poor painting skills, colors overlap and paint is chipped. Really takes away from an awesome bottle opener. Love the idea & size. Hate the careless painting outcome. I mean how do you ship an item out to a customer looking like that? I would be embarrassed to do so myself. It almost feels as if the seller does not care about the product. Details matter, they do please do better for the sake of your customers.
Nowhere Michigan
Nowhere Michigan
It's not really a good movie. There were several implausible scenes requiring weird and awkward suppositions but, I couldn't stop watching for some reason. Every time I stopped watching, I had to turn it back on to see what actually came next. Jenna Boyd did well in this film. It wasn't her fault that there was no reason for his car to be at the hospital for them to flee in but....it was there! And she made the best of it.

We need the rest of the episodes! This show gives my life direction and meaning. I feel like my life is on hold as I await crucial information that can only been seen in the remaining episodes. Do Billy and Courtney's parents reconcile? Do Matt and Coach Williams ever resolve their differences over Matt's constant "hotdogging" at basketball practice? Does Matt enter a treatment facility to address his boozing? Do the characters manage to ever finish one of their non-carbonated soft drinks at The Avalon? Is Hillside the origin of most local current recycling programs? How many more random people will show up unannounced at Dylan's garage? Does Jake finally get some? Does Ashley continue to wear that pastel pink jacket almost every episode? I don't know and neither will anyone else unless the rest of the episodes are released!

Funko POP Marvel Bobble Figure, Dr. Doom
Funko POP Marvel Bobble Figure, Dr. Doom
I'm an avid collector of these vinyl POP figures. I have a dozen at my desk at work and over 3 dozen on a shelf at home. They're all displayed in their box b/c I'm a little OCD and I sometimes resell or trade them and having the box makes everything easier. I did take this figure out of its box b/c a friend of mine was interested in trading for it. Imagine my surprise when we discovered that the top of Doom's head and the upper portion of his cape looked like it was hastily repainted! Picture a scrape on your car that someone went over w/ touch up paint, except they used way too much paint and did it with the wrong sized brush! Terrible!! I'm my horror I opened every single POP vinyl that I owned. Thank god it was the only one with damage. I wish I had discovered this sooner b/c there is absolutely no way I would have kept it. I will never buy another figure online b/c of this experience. In store, only after inspecting. Be careful out there folks.
Maruchan Flavor Ramen Noodles, Soy Sauce, 3 Ounce (Pack of 24)
Maruchan Flavor Ramen Noodles, Soy Sauce, 3 Ounce (Pack of 24)
One of the things I love about Amazon item reviews (when they are honest) is you can make great buying decisions and discover new items such as this. I have been eating ramen for a long time, but as one reviewer said this item is not in the grocery stores. I am not a Prime member so I ordered 2 cases (96 individual packages) to save shipping costs. At first I thought that was way too much. After eating it I probably will "kill" these 2 cases in a month. You make this just like the other flavors. Boil 2 cups of water, add the ramen, cook for 3 minutes and add the cream packet. Let it sit for a minute or more after you take it off the burner and broth thickens. If you want your "cream" to be a little thicker, don't add a full 2 cups of water. At only abot 5 cents a package this is a great deal. Happy eating.

Now after 4 packages I have a suggestion. Two cups is too much water. You get the creamy taste but the consistancy is like all the other ramens.Try 1.5 cups and that should give a creamy cosistency. Okay, last post. One and a half cups of water. That will do it.
Leo Tolstoy's 20 Greatest Short Stories Annotated
Leo Tolstoy's 20 Greatest Short Stories Annotated
Rife with errors, tenses mixed within sentences. An abject failure. Quite likely a candidate for some of the worst translation work of the century. One really cannot overstate how poorly done this book is. It is truly a pity, and i pray that first time readers of Tolstoy will never happen across this book. If you are particularly wealthy, its purchase may serve as some sort of exemplar of how not to publish, or perhaps as some sort of a comedic piece....As long as I live I will remember the name of Mr Barger.

99 Fear Street: The First Horror/The Second Horror/The Third Horror (Fear Street Collector's Edition #11)
99 Fear Street: The First Horror/The Second Horror/The Third Horror (Fear Street Collector's Edition #11)
The First Horror:

This is one of the books I read back in the day when I was in middle school. Actually, I think I only read 1st and 3rd book in this series, which after having read the entire series now, it’s totally fine. Lol.

Overall, The First Horror was an okay read. It was pretty creepy, but I was not a fan of the characters, really. Especially not Kody.

So, we know that R.L. Stine loves his fake outs. I always expect them because otherwise I’d just be disappointed that the cool thing didn’t actually happen. But this time, in this book, I was surprised because some of them actually weren't fake outs, which was awesome!

---

The Second Horror:

Cally is very excited to have some new blood move into her house for her to torment. I actually really liked that we got some evil Cally POV as she haunted Brandt and his family. It was pretty cool. But I still don't understand why she’s evil. Why?! But evil Cally is not even that evil, tbh. What she does is more like pranks. She is not very good at this killing thing. Lol.

Overall, it was kind of a meh book. I liked the plot twist at the end and I liked the evil Cally POV, but that’s pretty much it. There was one Cally plot twist I saw coming a mile away, and that’s never fun. It’s still not explained why Cally is suddenly evil, so I hope we finally find out in the next book!

---

The Third Horror:

This is the final book in the trilogy! At the end of the first book, Kody promised she would come back for her sister, and she did.... Along with a whole film crew. Yup. they’re filming Cally and Kody’s story where it actually happened. And Kody is the lead actress playing her sister. This was very weird. Why not just play herself? 🤷‍♀️

Things about the house aren’t explicitly explained. We do get some hints here and there and we do, I guess, finally find out why Cally suddenly turned evil when she died. There was also a really weird revelation about the people who helped out around the house in all three books and I’m really confused? Just- why? It was kind of dumb. Overall, I thought this was a pretty average series with some pretty average characters.
Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less
Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less
Archer's first novel shows his penchant for the 'revenge crime', and the white-collar settings of the business and society worlds.
The story is fairly straightforward, with some dry patches that keep the book from ranking among Archer's later classics(having recently read 'A Prisoner of Birth', it's interesting to see how Archer learned to create more nuanced characters.)
The 'gang' in this story aren't fleshed out a great deal, compared to protagonists in some of Archer's other works, but eventually, they start to grow on the reader...particularly James, although some of Jean-Pierre's unexpectedly funny lines are also memorable. The touches of humor enhance the story without detracting from it too much...with the possible exception of a few scenes at Oxford! Of course, Harvey is mostly played for laughs, after Archer establishes him with an autobiographical opening that drags on just a bit too long. However, it succeeds in showing that Harvey is a better actor and con man than he is an actual businessman(which accounts for his un-bussinesslike behavior and reactions in some scenes, as other reviewers have complained about),Archer does a good job of peeling away Harvey's reputation for shrewdness, and illustrates the ultimate futility of such convoluted schemes.
While the plot doesn't quite race along from start to finish, it's a pleasnt ride. A few well-placed topical references(topical at the time of publication, at least), and the occasional cameo by such historical luminaries as Harold McMillan, Billie Jean King, and Linda Lovelace(Archer should have had the three of them walk into a pub!), and the obligatory 'Archer twist',add up to a fairly good start for the future Lord Archer's second career!

Dragon Ball Full Color Freeza Arc, Vol. 3 (3)
Largely good, but again the colours are a problem for me. Kamehameha is blue, not yellow. Bulma's hair is blue, not purple. It's crazy that a main character of the series since its inception has the wrong hair colour, and that the colour of a signature move that's been around since dragonball is wrong. Really wish they fixed this, because it's awesome in every other area.

You're awesome and B. You procrastinate saving the world...a lot. Inadvertently though.) The book I received was brand new, arrived promptly & as a total surprise. Definitely will be purchasing more in the future (different volumes, probably. This one is pretty darn good though....) Kamehameha!
Murder Beyond the Grave (ID True Crime Book 3)
Murder Beyond the Grave (ID True Crime Book 3)
I give this book 5 stars because for a fictionalized version of this true story Patterson has more facts in it than the fictional garbage the prosecution gave the jury in 1987, and what Nancy's inept defense attorneys failed to object to. As a person well versed on this case I can tell that Patterson and his team did their research. I will give you a few examples of the prosecution's lies. Nancy was never out buying distilled water with Danny for the box. Danny used an old milk cartoon with tap water. This was confirmed with a lab analysis. Ramsey Small answered the call at midnight and said it was a man. The police reports state that Ramsey said it was a man who took the call, however, in Nancy's trial, Ramsey Small gets on the stand and was coached to say it was a deep voice. The defense prosecution said in closing arguments that Nancy made the ransom call. How can two people be accused of the same thing and one, Danny Edwards, be charged with impersonating a police officer? A phone directory mysteriously turns up in Nancy's room. The name Small was circled in the top corner. It was taken to a handwriting analysis and confirmed that a left-handed person circled it. Both Nancy and Danny are right-handed. Who would have circled it? It wasn't neither of them. Perhaps planted? Nancy was never running around buying supplies or burying a box with Danny. It can be proven that she was somewhere else at the same time making a phone call with phone records. What I mention above can be proven to be lies with hard evidence, but the courts continue to deny all of Nancy's appeals. What are they afraid of? Are they afraid that the judicial system will be disgraced? This was a heinous crime done by one man and that man was Danny Edwards. Nancy made up one lie at the beginning of her interrogation because she thought Danny got her involved with drugs and the prosecution continued to lie and twist everything she said to make her look guilty. There was no reason for her to think that he could do something so evil. Everyone in Kankakee had their minds made up that Nancy Rish was guilty of this crime before she even went to trial and the prosecution wanted a slam dunk to make sure she went down. She's been in prison for over 30 years now. People continue to bash her without knowing the actual facts. People will read the appeal decision and think that the decision was right because it's based off of the prosecutions lies. One " Kankakein" stated in one of the reviews on here that this book was written to help Nancy's latest appeal. How would Nancy or anyone she knows be in contact with James Patterson and be able to convince him to right a book about the case? That's just ludicrous!!! Patterson obviously did his homework. They need to learn the hard facts of the case, not the prosecution's version. Danny Edwards is where he belongs!!! Nancy Rish isn't !!! She has been in prison for too long for UNKNOWINGLY giving Edwards a ride to commit a crime. Please go to Facebook, JUST US FOR NANCY, and "like" the page if you would like to learn more about the case and to see updates on the case as they develop.

French Twist: A Detective Luc Moncrief Mystery (Kindle Single) (BookShots)
This is the final installment of the Detective Luc Moncrief trilogy series and it all ends how I imagined it would do.
Again, this was a nice, easy and steady read with no unexpected surprises.
The book is split into many quick-to-read short chapters and I absolutely loved this style of writing.
The story is set around horse racing, with characters from Detective Luc Moncrief’s past making an appearance.
I really do hope that there will be some more books added to this series.

Roald Dahl's Marvellous Medicine
For anyone experiencing any form of trauma, this is a quite remarkable book. Tom Solomon, who looked after Roald Dahl for many years during the author's later life, The book recounts Dahl's life from his earliest days in the British Army to his death.

There have been previous biographies, but none concentrating on Dahl's medical encounters, from his illnesses, to the death of his children, to his pioneering research into medical science and his abilities to bring influential people together. His wartime experiences involved horrific injuries, from which he recovered; they gave him the impetus to become a professional writer. At this point the book appears fairly conventional in narrative terns, even though Solomon, a practicing doctor, writes in detail about Dahl's clinical symptoms.

Where the book takes off is in its account of what happened to Dahl's eldest daughter Olivia, and his first wife Patricia Neal. Olivia died young after an attack of a measles-related disease; and the experience hit Dahl hard. She was only seven years old, and had no previous medical history. The traumatic experience not only inspired him into further medical research into the disease, as he consulted with eminent doctors both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, and tried to find ways of working towards a cure. The experienced galvanized him creatively to some of his greatest work as he moved from short story writing into producing classic children's works such as CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Solomon is extremely good at relating trauma to a sudden burst of creative activity; it was almost as if he had to write as fast as possible so as not to waste the experience of the moment.

The same phenomenon occurred when Neal had a stroke in the mid-Sixties, from which she was not expected to recover. Through patience as well as consultations, Dahl helped her recover to the extent that she could resume her film career, even though she still experienced difficulty conversing. At this time Dahl was working harder than ever, not only producing further books but looking after his four remaining children. The fact he accomplished the task successfully pays testament to his phenomenal energy.

Dahl spent some considerable time in Africa investigating serious viruses such as Ebola and malaria. although not a doctor himself, he worked with several creative talents and got to know a lot about medical science. Even while bedridden in old age, he was more than willing to discuss diagnoses with Solomon and his colleagues.

The narrative moves seamlessly from biographical narrative to medical diagnoses, to the effect of trauma on Dahl's state of mind. Solomon does not pull any punches in his account of the author's frequent misfortunes, but still comes up with a life-enhancing portrait of a remarkable man.

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a novelist, academic, medievalist, lay theologian, and Christian apologist who held academic positions at both Oxford University and Cambridge University. He wrote many other books, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, Problem of Pain, The Screwtape Letters, A Grief Observed, The World's Last Night, The Abolition of Man, The Great Divorce, God in the Dock, Christian Reflections, etc.

He wrote in the Preface to this 1949 book, "This book contains a selection of the too numerous addresses which I was induced to give during the late war and the years that immediately followed it. All were composed in response to personal requests and for particular audiences, without thought of subsequent publication. As a result... they really anticipated, sentences of mine which have already appeared in print... I could not now recapture the tone and temper in which they were written."

He wrote in the title essay, "If Christianity could tell me no more of the far-off land than my own temperament led me to surmise already, then Christianity would be no higher than myself. If it has more to give me, I must expect it to be less immediately attractive than 'my own stuff'... If our religion is something objective, then we must never avert our eyes from those elements in it which seem puzzling or repellent; for it will be precisely the puzzling or repellent which conceals what we do not yet know and need to know." (Pg. 7)

He observes, "The infinite value of each human soul is not a Christian doctrine. God did not die for man because of some value He perceived in him. The value of each human soul, considered simply in itself, out of relation to God, is zero... It may be that He loves all equally---He certainly loved all to the death---and I am not certain what the expression means. If there is equality it is in His love, not in us." (Pg. 38)

This is not the most "profound" collection of Lewis's essays (see "Christian Reflections" and "God in the Dock," instead), but it contains some material that will be of interest to fans of Lewis.

The Red: An Erotic Fantasy
The Red: An Erotic Fantasy
Fair warning, fair reader: "The Red" Tiffany Reisz's latest book is straight up erotica. That being said it is some of the most well written erotica currently published. Not only in the titillating, push your buttons, one handed read sense but in a literary, lyrical, creative sense. This book is going to make my best of list for 2017 guaranteed. It pushes all of my button. An exploration of deathbed promises and, maybe, even a little bit of grief, the story takes art and sex and debauchery creates some of the most inventive mesmerizing erotica I've come across in ages. Tiffany Reisz is the Mistress of the filthy and taboo. You don't need to know a lot about art to truly enjoy the way this book is set up, so don't let that scare you off.
Mona is a gallery owner saddled with the burden of a deathbed promise to her mother. The titular "Red" is the gallery her mother devoted her life to and that Mona grew up in. Since her mother's death, The Red has floundered financially and Mona is on the brink of losing her mother's beloved gallery. That is, until late one night Malcolm appears at closing time with an offer. That offer is an utterly debauched trip through the looking glass. Is it ghosts? Is it a fever dream? Or is all of this really happening?
Mona and the reader can never be sure. The deal consists of one night every month or so with Malcolm for a year. During that time he will have his way with Mona. And after every night Mona receives a valuable piece of artwork that helps her dig her way out of financial ruin. It's not a love story. Or is it? What starts out as a deal with the devil, perhaps, turns into Mona coming to terms with her own sexuality and falling in love, just a little bit, with mysterious Englishmen who showed up at her door one night.
Mr. Reisz structures Mona and Malcolm's story into several vignettes, very, very kinky vignettes, based on various artistic masterworks. It's brilliant and unlike anything I've read before. Sexuality has always inspired art but when Ms. Reisz turned the tables and uses art to inspire sexuality you're in for a wild, debased ride. It is hot and boundary pushing and absolutely filthy in spots. I can't possibly articulate all of the reasons I love this story and, if I tried, I would ruin the journey. I'll stick with the top four.
This story is courageous. Ms. Reisz threw caution to the wind and wrote from her heart - marketing be damned.
This story is the ultimate fantasy because it defies description. It has a spooky supernatural vibe, without being anything close to "paranormal romance". When you add in Mona's internal monologue, it becomes a beautiful psychological journey of a woman finding her true self - emotionally and sexually.
Ms. Reisz' turn of a phrase is so artful, I couldn't be sure whether Malcolm was a kinky stranger, a hallucination, fever dream or the devil himself. It's tough to keep a reader guessing and engaged the way "The Red" did.
The use of art as the inspiration and framework for each of Mona and Malcolm's encounters was provocative and inspiring. It gave depth and texture to the story and took it beyond the realm of gratuitous, raunchy erotica and made it so much more.
It's sexy and mysterious; nasty and hot. The Red is a kind of book that creeps into your dreams and, occasionally, your waking moments. I can guarantee you'll never walk through museum and look at the art on the wall the same way. If you're open-minded and love a great, sexy, thought-provoking read, pick this up immediately. An ARC was provide for an honest review

Warlock (3) (The Egyptian Series)
Warlock (3) (The Egyptian Series)
I am a big fan of Wilbur smith. He is a master of the historical novel.
The audio cassette editions of his books, manufactured by Billiance audito, however are so poor in their quality as to be unusable and annoying to the listener.
Brilliance audio's technical reproduction of books is the poorest quality of any that I have purchased- I'm an avid user of books on tape.
I purchased this book to listen to on a cross country drive. The uneven audio necessitated a constant adjustment of the volume level. At moments the audio was so low that it was virtually unintelligible. If you increase the volume another portion would be so loud as to be painful (usually spoken segments by characters). This requisite constant adjustments in volume made this excellent story a real pain to listen to.
I thought that this might just have been an anomaly with this one particular tape. I purchased another unabridged novel "River God" also by Wilbur Smith and manufactured by brilliance audio - it was the same.
I was so angry after investing a significant sum to purchase these tapes that I called the manufacturer, Brilliance audio's national customer service manager. She apologized and shipped me a replacement book on tape that she assured me had good production quality. I was shocked to find it the same as the previous books. My car stereo is manufactured by Bose and is high end.
The same problem exists when attempting to play these tapes on a sony walkman cassette player. My conclusion is that Brilliance audio has no quality control or is using a cheaper tape or reproduction method than all of the other audio tape manufacurers.
I wish Wilbur Smith had hired Jim Dale the reader of the Harry Potter books and had his novels recorded at another studio because those books are performed and reproduced magnificently.
The audio renditions of both Warlock and River God, however, are simply poor quality and not worth their cost and unless you don't mind adjusting the volume continuously as you listen - don't buy them.

One of the best Afrikaans books in a long time. And so were the other three Afrikaans translations as well. Wilbur Smith is a top writer and Zirk vd Berg did an excellent job translating the four books yo Afrikaans.

LEGO Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts Minifigure Series - Complete Set of 22 (71022)
I purchased this set to add to my Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts collection of mini-figures and was planning on receiving Percival Graves/Grindelwald to complete my set. He's shown as one of the figures in the set, but I never received him. Otherwise, all the other figures are accounted for. It arrived promptly and all figures were in excellent condition. I'd give this a 5-star rating if it weren't missing a figure, so just one star for now....
Timberland - Botas al tobillo White Ledge impermeables para hombre
Timberland - Botas al tobillo White Ledge impermeables para hombre
I needed a pair of hiking boots to replace the Keene boots that were only 1 1/2 yrs old but not only lost their waterproofing in the first six months but had a weed stalk in the field go right through the side and almost break my skin. This was the second pair of Keene’s that had gone bad in just over a year and, at $130 I was getting tired of replacing them.

Started looking at reviews and found these. They have a large toe box with plenty of room. Before I took them out I took another reviewers advice and put a coating of Mink Oil on them. They were comfortable but I knew they’d take a little break in. I now have about three or four miles of walking through the fields and surprisingly they seem to be breaking in rather quickly. I usually put on about 500-700 miles a year.

One note, if you’re looking for hiking boots that will give you really good ankle support these ARE NOT for you, look elsewhere. These are for easy hiking, fields and roadway. When I got them I first put in a pair of Dr. Scholls and that went a long way toward making them immediately comfortable.

If I remember I’ll give an update in three or four months.

UPDATE: Jan. 6, 2018 - I’ve now had a chance to wear these for a while including the recent snow storm and frigid temps (at least for us). We got 5” of snow, temps this morning, when I took the dog out, we’re 4 or 5 degrees with a windchill of -8. I had been wearing wool socks with these and my feet have stayed warm and dry on a 25 to 35 min. walk through the fields. This time, with the snow and frigid windchill I decided to try just summer cotton socks. Bear in mind I’m a 70 year old with diabetes, which does affect circulation, so I’m pretty sensitive to cold and heat and the comfort of my foot wear. (I walk approximately 3 miles a day with my dog, even in the snow and cold unless it’s too much for her.) So, the results of a 20 minute walk were still warm and dry feet. I could have gone much further but Harley was getting snow turning to ice between her toes every few minutes and we’d have to stop and I’d have to remove it.

Bottom line: When I received these boots I put in my Dr. Scholls insoles from my previous pair, rubbed in three coats of mink oil on dry days (which I think was key to waterproofing) and started walking. I’ve found them to be far more comfortable than the Keen’s I was previously wearing. I don’t walk as much as a lot of people, about 25 miles a week, but they’re doing well for me for field and neighborhood walking.

2/9/18: I like to keep folks updated on important stuff: If you want a pair of boots to wear, every day, and forget when you take them off, look elsewhere. Because these are leather they require a LOT of care. If they get soaking wet do NOT continue to wear them the next day, you’ll ruin them. I’ve found that when mine get soaked from walking in the pouring rain, in the field with my dog, I wipe them clean with an old towel, put shoe trees in them to keep the leather from shrinking and set them aside where there’s a flow of air to let them air dry. Do not try and force dry them with hot air, you’ll ruin the leather. Putting them a few feet away from a fan seems to work okay or just let them sit. While they’re drying I use an old pair that I kept. After they have dried completely I retreat every inch of leather, paying particular attention to seams and around grommets, with mink oil, let it sit and dry then retreat again.

Is the above a pain? Yes it is but these appear to be quality boots and you need to take care of them, not let them get muddy and wet and toss them in the corner for the next day.

Update: 11/12/18 I’ve now had these boots a year and for the money they were a good buy but I’ll repeat a couple of points I made previously.
1. They are not, in any way, shape or form waterproof.
2. If you get them soaked do NOT simply take them off and leave them in a dark hallway. If you do they’ll be ruined. Put them on a towel in front of a fan blowing room temperature air on them. Do not, under any circumstances, place them on a heated surface or someplace where hot air blows on them, you’ll ruin the leather.
3. Once completely dry polish your boots. This is how I do it: I put a match to the polish (in the can) and let it flame and liquify, then take a rag and dip it into the liquid polish and rub it into the leather. Then I take a clean cloth and further rub the polish in and finally use a brush to buff the polish to a shine. Yes, it takes time and effort but if you wear leather hiking boots and walk through wet fields you should take the time to take care of the leather.

In wet weather I don’t wear these two days in a row. If you’re looking for that type of boot you’re also looking at three times the price.
Caterpillar - Botas de trabajo con punta de acero para hombre
Caterpillar - Botas de trabajo con punta de acero para hombre
I have now bought two pairs of these boots.

They are okay.

They are not overly comfortable, but they get the job done and are not terrible.

My first pair lasted...period. Only got a new one when I did because my employer pays $75 towards a new pair every year so...why wouldn't I?

I am a truck driver who both drives and spends quite a bit of time unloading and the toes in these boots certainly have saved me quite a bit of pain and actually become useful for kicking things like pallets around, saving my back a bit.

Point: These are well made, durable, sturdy boots. A good buy for less than $100. The only two things I do not like about them that make these boots lose a star are:

1- The strings kind of suck. They broke fast and are overly stretchy for my liking. This is a minor issue, as nice strings are quite inexpensive (couple of dollars).
2- The boots could be more comfortable and the padding inside wears down within the first few months.

Overall, a solid inexpensive pair of boots that could last up to two years, but I would advise, for comfort sake, replacing at least yearly.

MOBOSI Vanguard Armor Compatible with iPhone 12 Pro Max Case,Rugged Cell Phone Cases,Heavy Duty Military Grade Shockproof Drop Protection Cover 6.7 inch 2020 (Navy Blue)
Love this case!

Pros: the case is strong, I like the grooves on the sides, this helps to grip the phone when holding it. It has a clear back, I purposely got it because of that feature. I bought the blue phone, so I wanted to see the true color of the phone instead of covering it up completely. Very strong case, worth the money.

Cons: It doesn’t come with a screen shield, I bought that separately. And also it doesn’t come with a stand, I bought a pop up one - the are small enough to not block the back too much.

Racing Gaming Chair, Bonded Leather Home Office Chair Computer Desk Ergonomic Swivel Chair Height Adjustable Padding Armrests
This chair is aesthetically pleasing, easy to set up, and pretty comfortable. It's also at a good price point. However, you are able to lean back but not very far before you end up on the floor. I bought this for my boyfriend to complete his gaming set up and he loves it. He games for long hours in it, but fell on the floor from leaning back too far (which was so funny)
overall good chair, not 5 stars because of the reclining thing

MOOSOO HEPA Air Purifier for Home Air Purifier with H13 HEPA Filter for Bedroom Pet Hair Dander Pollen Smoke Dust Airborne Contaminants Odors Home Air Purifier AC24
I originally bought this to help with my family's allergies and after trying out the air purifier for about two weeks now I can say I'm proud of the results! We live next to the main road and all the dust that is blow around causes us to sneeze. I can even tell a difference in the air quality from not using the air purifier.
I've been shopping around for a great air purifier as I wanted something that I know would be easy to replace the filter, easy to use and actually works. I've tried some smaller air purifiers but they didn't do the job and as well I needed something that would fit in our budget and still does a great job. This is where Moosoo AC24 air purifier came in as it has all those features and as well very budget friendly.
Thank you Moosoo for making this great product that actually works!

Kenny's Wiley Wallaby Regaliz, rojo, 24 onzas
This licorice is, without a doubt, the absolute best I have ever eaten!!! Each piece is plump, soft, and full of flavor - just 1 or 2 pieces is enough to satisfy that licorice craving, unlike other brands that keep you eating to the bottom of the package. However, I wrestle with myself to stop at those first few pieces because it's just so darn good! What I would call the "original flavors", the red and black, are without comparison. The blueberry, which was given to me as a gift, was surprisingly good (since I consider myself a purist). Next on my radar to try will be the watermelon and the green apple. Until that time, however, I am more than happy to savor my bags of red and black........and hide them from the rest of the family!
