As a long time ee cummings fan, I found this book to be just as wonderful as the rest of his writing, although this one isn't as well known. If you can appreciate his artistic use of words, you will not be disapointed by etcetera.

The History of the World According to Facebook, Revised Edition
The History of the World According to Facebook, Revised Edition
I bought this book for my mother for Christmas this year. The book was delivered today and after flipping through it and laughing hysterically I ordered two more; one for each of my sister in laws. If it weren't Christmas I'd buy myself one. I'm not a fan of reading books, but this has very glossy pages and is not really "book like'. The pages look like the Facebook news feed and the posts are HILARIOUS! The only thing I didn't care for was that the outside of the book seemed a little bit dirty looking, almost like it came from a cheap print shop (sturdy, but matte cover) but the inside is in fabulous color with thick pages. And the content is so funny I'd buy it with no cover at all. I'm thinking this is gift of the year material!

I had written three really funny posts in this review, but took them out and suggest everyone just buy the book and read them for yourself!

For the record, I do not get offended easily and I'm curious if the book would be as funny to someone who isn't familiar with Facebook (photos, tagging, likes, interests, relationship status etc). Hope you enjoy the book as much as we do!!
Infinite Powers: How Calculus Reveals the Secrets of the Universe
Infinite Powers: How Calculus Reveals the Secrets of the Universe
First off, this book is not a textbook. You won't be reading it and doing homework or taking tests or solving equations and checking the back of the book to see if you got them right - thank goodness! This is a book that makes it possible for anyone (well, maybe not ANYONE, but anyone who is interested enough to try) to understand what Calculus is and the basics of how it works and why...

But why would you want to do that? Well, as the author asserts in the beginning of the book, Calculus is the language of God. Perhaps even more interestingly, he says that Calculus is the operating system or computer language that animates EVERYTHING from moment to moment and place to place.

So consider this; if you've EVER thought that maybe we are in a simulation - a virtual reality - then Calculus is the game engine code that our universe uses to draw the world we are playing the game in right now.

If you can imagine God as a computer game coder, and he set out to create a game called "Humanity" or "Life in the Universe As We Know It" - then instead of sitting down with UnReal Engine or Unity or Java or C++, he chose Calculus. Calculus is the language he programmed the Universe with and the more we understand the code, the more we understand the Universe.

That's kind of fascinating if you think about it - AND it is coexists with the Bible just fine. The Bible doesn't tell us the details of how God created the Universe or what he used to create it - The Bible just says he did it. Calculus is the "language" or a way for us to be able to tell what it is going to do next. My son and I have intense conversations about things like this - and this book makes them far more interesting.

I took Calculus in college several decades ago. I was a C student. I also took Differential Equations, and did much better. I felt like Calculus was the tools and D.E. was using the tools to do things. This book explains the tools and it is fascinating. I recommend it for anyone who is even a little curious about how our universe works, or also anyone who appreciates the artistic beauty of the order in our universe. Calculus is fascinating and even exciting if it is explained by the right person, and with Infinite Powers: How Calculus Reveals the Secrets of the Universe, Steven Strogatz is the right person to do it. I highly recommend this book if you are even slightly interested in how the universe and the world around you works.

I hope this is a helpful review. If there is anything more you would like to know, please ask. I try to check my reviews for comments and respond to them right away. I think it is important for fellow shoppers on Amazon to look out for one another by letting each other know if a product is good, or if it is a stinker. I take this very seriously and try to be helpful. Thank you!
Autobiography of a Yogi (Self-Realization Fellowship)
Autobiography of a Yogi (Self-Realization Fellowship)
If you are on a spiritual path and meditation is of interest to you, drop every other book on meditation and read this one. While there are many modern good writers about the topic of meditation, few offer glimpses into states of bliss that are attainable. Yogananda tells us that bliss is achievable by everybody through techniques of concentration. The subjects were rare accounts of Hindu saints met personally by Yogananda. His description of his spiritual journeys, those of his master, his master's master and other Hindu spiritual prodigies will make you see life in a completely different manner. Even though you may not have had these spiritual experiences, to have a thorough account of their lives, their teachings, and their ecstatic experiences, is profound and are rare accounts seldom heard of. There is wisdom in every page. West meets East. Happiness is an inside job; it cannot be found externally. Here is Yogananda's summary of the Bengali "Joy-Permeated Mother": "Casting aside every inferior attachment, Ananda Moyi Ma offers her sole allegiance to the Lord. Not by the hair-splitting distinctions of scholars but by the sure logic of faith, the child-like saint has solved the only problem in human life--establishment of unity with God". Never have my eyes feasted on such beautiful prose about difficult to understand, rare experiences. I feel forever changed by the experience of reading this book, and I consider myself well-read. This book has become my new bible and will guide me forward in life. When Steve Jobs died, he had one book on his ipad, and this was it. George Harrison says without this book he wouldn't want to live. Now I know why.
Bold: How to Go Big, Make Bank, and Better the World
Bold: How to Go Big, Make Bank, and Better the World
I have two issues with this book. First, it would have been a whole lot better if I known about it and read it much sooner. Secondly, every copy should be shipped with a complementary highlighter because if you are serious about entrepreneurship and creativity that will give you an edge in today's world and don't have photographic memory, you will ABSOLUTELY be going back and referencing specific ideas and passages. I got so tired of trying to remember all the little nuggets of wisdom that by the time I was halfway through the book, I turned back to the beginning of chapter 2 and started highlighting close to three-fifths of the text!

Plain-English explanations of how technology giants like Lockheed Martin's Skunkworks and Google tap ideas and make them work are in this book. Understanding of how to slide into a state of flow and make it work for you is there. How to utilize platforms of social media to get instant feedback on ideas and therefore rapidly evolve and improve them is right there. Seriously. This is a how-to-take-over-the-world guide for entrepreneurs that can be read and understood by a 12 year old wearing headphones.

If you are thinking of starting a business that could shake up the status-quo and possibly change the world (never mind starting an Etsy page, I'm talking moonshots here), then this book needs to be in your collection. And I don't just mean taking up space in a bookshelf. No. This book should be dogeared and scuffed; sitting atop your coffee table right next to your dried out highlighter and your plans for the next big thing to benefit humanity. And if you read this book and it doesn't radically redirect and focus your ambition, then you are either already a millionaire reading what you already know, or your copy was accidentally shipped without ink. Which I'm sure Amazon would happily replace.
The Bootleg Volume 6: Bob Dylan Live 1964 - Concert At Philharmonic Hall
The Bootleg Volume 6: Bob Dylan Live 1964 - Concert At Philharmonic Hall
Legendary Broadcasts: 1969-1984 by Bob Dylan
Legendary Broadcasts: 1969-1984 by Bob Dylan
A collection of five live TV performances. Of the five shows, three are important for any Dylan fan: "The World of John Hammond Show" in '75 features the performance debut of "Hurricane" and it does not disappoint. The Saturday Night Live show in '79 debuts three songs from his gospel album "Slow Train Coming." (Kind of humorous to hear Dylan forget some of the words of "Gotta Serve Somebody" and instead repeat the lines about "You may be rich or poor..." for a second time.) The third show is the one that is indispensable--the '84 Letterman Show. Three songs with a three piece Latino punk band named The Plugz. Incredible energy--this version of "Jokerman" is priceless. This was the only performance of Bob and the Plugz. It is rough, sloppy--and utterly magnificent. According to the band members, there was some talk of Bob and the Plugz doing some more work together, but it never came to fruition. 'Tis a pity--it boggles the mind to consider what might have been during Dylan's mid '80's fallow period had he done more work with this band. Sound quality is quite acceptable for a non-official release. If it becomes available again, snap it up!
Bob Dylan - Really Easy Piano
Bob Dylan - Really Easy Piano
Four stars for moment. Up date now below
Looks OK but the first song I went to play Lay Lady Lay is in the wrong key being C major the Dylan original version is in B minor I have needed to edit all the written music to the correct key.
The C Major version does not sound right at all.
I am hoping this is the only song scored in the incorrect Key .
Further to the above I have now discovered a Byrds cover was released in C major in playing along with the byrds track in C major the song does sound right , however I wish the score was written in the original Dylan key

Hempz Fresh Coconut & Watermelon Moisturizing Skin Lotion, Natural Hemp Seed Herbal Body Moisturizer with Chamomile & Avocado Extracts, Vitamins  A, C, E & D, 17 oz
I was looking for something nice on Prime Day and saw this lotion on discount! After reading that it has a non greasy finish on the skin, which is what turns me off from moisturizing in general, I figured to try it.

It does smell like a watermelon candy, a bit too sweet for my liking. My nose gets used to it after awhile. But it DOES dry nice and nongreasy, which means a lot to me in a humid climate!

I need this to get into the habit of moisturizing more without feeling like a slicked up seal. The smell is a bit sickly sweet, but the beauty of Hempz is that there's tons of different scents that they offer. I see a bunch at Ulta and I smell them time to time to see if their scent profiles differ. Feels a bit better than Bath and Body Works lotions since their nongreasy finish is a plus for me.

It's been several months and I hadn't been keeping up with moisturizing, and my standard sized bottle is far from empty. I still look forward to trying a different scent. I keep it in my room since the hemp leaf image might bother my conservative family, BUT other than that, it literally smells like any other feminine lotion brand, but dries nicely, so it's a win for me!
Streets of Blood
Streets of Blood
This movie OBVIOUSLY did not do proper research. Six months after, Katrina, Rita one week later, and the levies breaking within 2 weeks, the only place a "Police Station" could be in a building, would have been Baton Rouge, which is 1 hour and 20 minutes away going I-10. The lower 9th ward did not have power or water for over 2 years after the levies broke. The Police Headquarters was a trailer for nearly 3 years. If it had not been for the National Guard working and running police calls, (at about a 6 to 1 ratio), and private federal contractors, none of the city would even be close to safe. Black Water took control and restored order in the Super Dome. The French Quarter, (where all the money business is, bars, strip clubs, fine dining, and so on), was patrolled 24/7 by Special Forces. This, along with new recruits for N.O.P.D., is what helped clean up the force. The city was under 30 feet of sea water. After pumping it out, they darted a 4400 lb. crocodile, and returned it to its natural habitat. The waters were shark infested as well. and they opened all jail cells and told them to "swim for your life". All Police records were destroyed. There was nowhere to report to for "probation or parol, and no record of who should report. There were big evacuations to Texas, and Police officers had to evacuate their families and themselves. Many never returned. Which means gangs evacuated and new gangs moved in and took over old territories. 2 years later, old gang members came back and war started. BUT THE ABSOLUTE, UNDENIABLE TRUTH was, NO ONE IN THE ENTIRE CITY TALKED TO POLICE. They did not talk to F.B.I.. That was a death sentence by their own people. The C.I.A. was as you would expect, seeing that the gulf coast is an international border, and 09-11-2001 was fresh in everyone's mind. Over all, it is a gritty action film, and can hold your interest. Just much of the "authentic spirit of New Orleans" is missing.
Paper Mate 3930158 EraserMate Erasable Pen, Medium Point, Black, 12-Count
Paper Mate 3930158 EraserMate Erasable Pen, Medium Point, Black, 12-Count
We use these where I work, and we use them in very large quantities. We have them so that customers can fill out relatively important documents and have the ability to erase any mistakes, because we can't use pencils and Pilot Frixion pens are too expensive right now. That leaves us with these -- and they're only worth using when you don't have any other options.

You can't just take one of these out of the package and write with it. When you take off the cap for the first time, the entire metal point of the pen is covered with a surprisingly large, oily, viscous blob of blue slime. (It has even developed a nickname at work: "factory snot.") This must be wiped off with a tissue unless you want to ruin what you're writing on. Then you need to scribble on a piece of paper to get the ink flowing, because apparently this "high-tech pressurized ink" that these use does not flow very easily. It takes a minute to get it writing. And then, of course, the pens regularly just gunk up for no apparent reason, and to get them to work again at all you have to scribble a LOT. People who are unfamiliar with the poor performance of these pens will therefore frequently throw them out, even when they're brand new, because they don't write and seem to be empty.

Erasing is problematic, too. The ink from these pens is really only erasable for a few minutes immediately after it leaves the pen. I'm talking like, five minutes or less. So if you immediately recognize a mistake, great -- but otherwise, you'd better have white-out. And once the ink dries, it isn't really black -- it's more like a dark blue-gray. The older the ink is, the crappier and bluer it looks. No matter what you do, it never looks really, fully black. It is closest to looking like black when you've just written something, but even then it's just not right.

I hate these pens. Everything they're supposed to do, or supposed to have as a feature, is a failure. For me these pens are the pens of last resort, which wouldn't be used if there were any other viable option. So if you have a choice in the matter, stay away from these things.

Dark Phoenix (Plus Bonus Content)
Dark Phoenix (Plus Bonus Content)
Let’s break it down! This movie is nowhere near as BAD as paid critics that write movie reviews for a living make it seem. The Rotten Tomatoes score is egregious! To be honest, none of the trailers WOWED me and all the trailers I saw seemed like a disappointment. In addition, weeks before its release, word spread like wild fire that this film is utter garbage. I was just bummed. Despite those less than stellar hypes, I knew I was going to see this movie regardless because I am a huge X-Men fan. Always have been.

I have to disagree with the low RT score, and what the paid critics are saying. I saw it twice already and just came back from the theater a second time, and I was thoroughly entertained. Movies serve as another form to tell stories, but are also forms of entertainment in itself. This film accomplished one of the boxes, which is: To Entertain. It did its job. Job accomplished, as I was thoroughly entertained.

The beginning of the film had a nice flow to it and I was invested, as the team was on a space mission. It gets right into the storyline. No BS. The middle of the film was a tad slow in my opinion, but it kicks into high gear for the final climax that doesn’t fail to deliver. I do wish this film was two parts to really flesh out the storyline, and perhaps to give faithful X-Men fans the true Phoenix saga they deserve. Especially for the diehard fans familiar with the source material. Did I want the Shi’Ar Empire, Star Jammers, and Hellfire Club in this film? Yes, I did! Given we all know films have a 2 hour to 2 and a half hour timeframe, I knew I wasn’t going to get what I wanted. There was no way to jam all that into this film. What I did get, I was pleased with. This is way better than Apocalypse where Bryan Singer just lost his steam. Word is, the climax was reshoot and the climax in this final version delivers. It is action packed. I am going to miss this cast. As a fan, i don't feel we had enough time with them. Don’t want to spoil anything, so pros and cons below.

Pros:
1. Nice performances all around from the cast.
2. Sophie Turner delivers a good performance and gets to shine.
3. The musical score by Hans Zimmer is great! I need a copy immediately. It fits the space element of the plot real well.
4. End climax fight scenes deliver.
5. We finally get to see the X-Men use their powers more so then any other film in the franchise. It is done in a unique, action-packed way.
6. Nice cameo from an unexpected mutant.
7. The film had a nice pace and flow. I was rarely bored.

Cons:
1. I wish the film was 2 parts to stay closer to the source material.
2. Mystique’s make-up and the actress are horrible. Her wig and nose job was very distracting.
3. The X-Men costumes are a letdown. The ones used in Apocalypse looked amazing though.
4. Sad there won’t be a sequel given Disney purchased Fox.
5. Wish some of the characters had more moments and their own individual story arcs, so they could shine more.

Jada Toys Marvel Black Panther & W Motors Lykan Hypersport DIE-CAST Car, 1: 24 Scale Vehicle & 2.75" Collectible Metal Figurine
Nice model, but way overpriced at £35. We ordered it at £32, then on the day it was supposed to be delivered, I was told that they had cancelled my order (no reason given) and if I wanted it, I had to reorder. My son was in tears as he’d been counting down the days until he received it. Still, I reordered, but at the increased price of £35. I’ve just looked and seen that it’s now priced at £39!

My son was given some birthday money and spent all of it on this car. He could have bought a few decent toy cars for this price, but he / we thought that it was a good deal with a Spider-Man figure thrown in. But it’s tiny - with no joints and cannot fit in the car.

In the description, it does list the size of the figure but we missed this and thought the photos would give a good idea - they show Spider-Man as a good size - taller than the car, which is incredibly misleading as he is tiny.

I feel sad on behalf of my son who was expecting more having spent his whole lot of birthday money on this toy. Had he spent £10-£15, he’d have been happy with the toy.

*Update - 2 days in, and one of the doors keeps slipping down / shut. Requesting a refund.
Marvel 6 Inch Legends Series Doctor Strange (Marvel Cinematic Version)
Marvel 6 Inch Legends Series Doctor Strange (Marvel Cinematic Version)
Just received mine, and I'm really impressed. It’s a really excellent piece, very well built and with good accessories - he comes with his Eye of Agamotto and Cape of Levitation, along with a complete second set of hands in ‘mystical spell casting’ poses, and a magic spell-shield. The detailing on everything is superb, the coloring and paint are perfectly applied, it has an impressive amount of articulation points for posing, and it’s a fantastic likeness to Benedryl Cucumbersnatch… or Bumblebee Crimplesnort… or Bandicoot Chittychittybangbang… or whatever. It looks just like the guy! It's one of the best looking figures in my collection.

They're not dolls they're action figures okay.
A Darkness in My Soul
A Darkness in My Soul
On the cover it says "The gene-tamperers produced two supermen-one a defiant mentalist, the other a defiant...God?" Makes you want to read it right? I saw it listed on an auction and ordered it right away. Here is my review: This book is 124 pages of strangeness. It is about gene tampering (typical), e.s.p. (typical), and the mysteries of creation (not typical). When I first got it in the mail I was disappointed with the length of the book. Well I shouldn't have been. There isn't much to the story but what is in those 124 pages is enough to boggle the mind and make you say " what the heck?" The "mysteries of creation" part of the book may make some people uncomfortable. I could tell that Koontz was still in the early stages of honing his writing style. It was pure science fiction while I find most Koontz books to be a chilling medley of science fiction and horror. And unlike any of his books from the last 2 decades, this book does not grab you from the beginning by the seat of the pants and keep you flying till the end. If you are a Koontz collector this is a must own as it was published very early in his career (1972). But if you're not a collector........I could recommend better. Here are a few (In the order in which I love them) Must Read Koontz books: Watchers, Dark Rivers of the Heart, Fear Nothing & Seize the Night,Whispers, Shadowfires, Phantoms, and Midnight. I have also heard Twilight Eyes, Lightning, and The Vision are excellent, but I haven't read them.........yet.
Paulo Coelho's Best Story (English Subtitled)
Paulo Coelho's Best Story (English Subtitled)
Some of the reviews about all the pot smoking and hedonism is not accurate. It was a segment of his life... As for disjointed - if you don't pay attention you could get lost on some of the jumps and transitions but they all make sense and are very intention-ed. I was concerned as in his books the story would actual stale or be too repetitive, however I found it fascinating to connect the portions of his different books and how they tied together. Many of his characters are influenced by his journey - the movie refreshed my interest in the book characters in figuring which were fictional and which were loosely based on him. There was enough interaction, action and excellent cinematography to hold attention. The music was fitting and moody and the filming was interesting.. sometimes you "were" him, other times observing with unique angles and beautiful scenery.
It was good enough that at the end, you turn off the TV, sit in quiet and think a moment. His books are fantastic and books are always better then movies - but this movie was strong and a wonderful way to dive in and get to know the author more - and I've ready just about the entire Coelho collection. I hope this helps without giving away a single thing. Enjoy it!
Bachelors Get Lonely
Bachelors Get Lonely
The book was in poor to acceptable condition. The binding was split in numerous places and the cover was tearing away from the book’s body. The printshop’s glue was turning to powder where exposed, indicating moisture damage. Not the type of connection to expect from a 1964 printed issue. However, all the pages are intact, and there was no smell of mold.
I plan on keeping this book for my reading collection, so after cleaning it up, I glued it back together & have tape sealed the cover. I am currently reading it now and absolutely love Gardener’s works.

Anthony Browne's King Kong: From the Story Conceived by Edgar Wallace & Merian C. Cooper
Anthony Browne's King Kong: From the Story Conceived by Edgar Wallace & Merian C. Cooper
I don't usually buy this type of book, but I saw it on a bargain book table a few years ago and picked it up. King Kong is the greatest monster movie of all time, and this illustrated account of the story looked interesting. In 92 pages, the familiar story of Kong's tragedy is told rather well, and the illustrations are quite good. Browne especially did a great job capturing the emotion and sadness of Kong at the end, lending him a much greater sense of humanity than can be found in the true monster of the story, filmmaker Carl Denham. One thing that could not help but strike me was the way in which Browne depicted Ann Darrow-there are definite similarities to Marilyn Monroe, and one early illustration is a perfect likeness of the blonde bombshell. I also noticed that one illustration of Kong on his abode atop Skull Mountain depicted what looks exactly like a bi-plane in the corner beside a basic V-shaped bird; I don't know if this is a mistake (the corner does closely match that of a later illustration of Kong atop the Empire State Building) but it did jump out at me.
Basically, this is a children's book, although I rather enjoyed it myself. This may not be a wise choice for bedtime reading for a small child (Kong's battles with several prehistoric beasts are vividly illustrated along with the horrors of Kong's escape in New York), but older children should enjoy it. The pictures pretty much tell the story themselves, so a child can enjoy the book even without reading the accompanying text. I think both the story and the illustrations convey an important message about the dangers of greed, one which parents can reinforce in their children by discussing Anthony Browne's King Kong with them.
The Matlock Paper: A Novel
The Matlock Paper: A Novel
How can a guy who can write the Metarese Circle barf up a waste of time like this. The drama wasn’t dramatic. The danger was ho hum. His referring to black men as blacks when that detail was wholly superfluous was annoying and points to his issues with black people. I finished out of respect for his other works, but this is a book to avoid.
Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Season 01
Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Season 01
I love Ghost In The Shell. Stand Alone Complex is one of the best sci-fi TV shows ever, and the Blu-ray that Anchor Bay/Manga USA has put out is a barely watchable release. All the extras are missing from the DVD release, and none of the episodes have chapter breaks. Those, I can get past and get along without. As long as I can watch a high quality presentation of the show, I can be happy with some stuff missing. However, the bare minimum of watching the show isn't possible on this release.

On the Japanese side, the subtitles are actually a close captioning track for the English audio, not a translation. And look, the dub script happens to be extremely faithful and well-written but it is not a translation. It doesn't translate the music, the signs, and if anyone on the English dub is speaking off-screen, but they aren't speaking in the Japanese version, there's a random line onscreen when it's actually silent.

But whatever, I care about the English audio more anyways. I love the English dub and I have the Japanese audio with a good subtitle track on the Korean Blu-ray. This release is the first time the English audio will be available on a home video release with a lossless track. At the very least the English dub fans will get a good release finally, right?

Sadly, that is also not the case. For some reason the English audio randomly cuts into the Japanese audio at random points in random episodes. I've even posted some examples on my Twitter feed showing this very error (and I'm including them on this review) and being very specific where they happened. Anchor Bay's response was to block me on Twitter.

This is a release that many people were waiting for years, and even the bare minimum of effort wasn't put into this release. And rather than fix it, the response from the distributor so far was to ignore me. I would highly recommend reaching out to Anchor Bay and telling them about the issues about this release. Hopefully, their response to you is better than mine.

Naruto, Vol. 15: Naruto's Ninja Handbook
Naruto, Vol. 15: Naruto's Ninja Handbook
This volume of the Naruto manga focuses somewhat on Gaara as he first fights Sasuke before facing Naruto. The volume shows Gaara's decent into the monster inside him in some nice detail as the volume progresses and also gives further insight into his tortured psyche in an extended flashback to his childhood.

The action in this volume is great with Sasuke, Gaara and Naruto all showing some interesting and powerful techniques. This volume also draws some nice parallels between Naruto and Gaara with the latter showing what Naruto could have become given different circumstances. Also, it could be my imagination but the artwork in this volume also appears to have improved slightly. Things are definitely heating up in this series and I am looking forward to the future instalments.
Mike Hammer - Kill Me, Darling
Mike Hammer - Kill Me, Darling
The hits just keep coming. In the newest MAC completion of a MS novel, it is 1954. Mike has been drinking for weeks because Velda has left him. Not only has she left Manhattan for Miami, she has been seen in the company of Oliver (Nolly) Quinn, a ruthless gangster and notorious abuser of women.

Why? A possible hint: Velda (a licensed PI in her own right) was once a Vice detective, working for Wade Manley, aka the Big Man. The Big Man has recently turned up dead in a very improbable part of town for what was probably a heavily-staged mugging.

Everybody loved the Big Man, including Mike and Pat Chambers, so Mike has two quests—to retrieve/save Velda and to avenge the Big Man. This will not be easy. Quinn is surrounded by goons and is in cahoots both with someone in officialdom as well as with someone from the mob. Actually, multiple mobsters make their winter home in Miami and resent one of their number (as yet unidentified) contaminating the place that they call home by using it as a conduit for trafficking drugs that originate in Cuba. Mike is surrounded by armed thugs; who can he trust?

That is the set-up and it’s a very effective one. MAC captures the early-mid 50’s ethos and the sun-drenched pastels of Miami that we would see years later in Miami Vice. This is Miami vice before there was a Miami Vice.

The plotting is tight and there are a number of classic Mike Hammer one-liners. Reading the story it would be impossible to estimate how much Mickey had left and how much Max had added. This is seamless, Mike Hammer joy.

The Adventures of Hotsy Totsy
The Adventures of Hotsy Totsy
I love the Clive Cussler books for adults and have all in my library. When I saw this book for children I jumped at the chance to initiate my grandchildren to the world of Clive Cussler and help get them more interested in reading rather than watching movies on their I-Pad's. I decided to read with them to get a feel for the book itself and also see and hear what they liked or didn't like about the book. I used my 7 year old, 10 year old and 12 year old grandchildren as subjects for this exercise. First, I found the book to be boring, with much too much detail (a positive for his adult books) that tended to bore all the children. In the end the book was set on a side table before the first chapter was completed, after a month it was sent to the dreaded bottom shelf of the book case never to been seen again.

The Inn of Fallen Leaves
The Inn of Fallen Leaves
I was very surprised by the quality of this novel, as it had no previous reviews. Mr. Davies has crafted a very descriptive tale of life in Japan during the social upheaval which included the Sakuradamon incident. This tale is solidly written, so I could not finish it in one sitting. I found his description of life and culture in mid 19th century Japan to be refreshing and instructive. The plot was not predictable, the storytelling was very patient, culminating in an ending which did not feel rushed in any sense. Being a fan of Katherine Lawrence, IJ Parker and Lynn Guest, I consider Inn of Fallen Leaves to be an extremely worthwhile read.
Der Fürst der Finsternis. Roman.
Der Fürst der Finsternis. Roman.
[Prince Lestat] [By: Rice, Anne] [October, 2014]
[Prince Lestat] [By: Rice, Anne] [October, 2014]
I give Rice 5 Stars for picking-up, re-opening, expanding, and braiding together new and old characters/elements of her Vampire Mythology after all this time. Unfortunately, though technically impressive -- and with some acceptable and very questionable use of retroactive continuity -- this is simply not a fun or effortless book to read so much as it is a culminating, consolidating, and informative one requiring considerable effort and focus on the part of the reader to get through. Normally, I find Anne Rice novels an easy, thrilling, and beautiful experience to sit-down and enjoy but my experience of this one was pure drudgery in some places and it took way too much effort to get through. In Rice's defense though, beyond these valid size, scope, and technical criticisms, the other issue may be that Vampire Chronicles/Mayfair Witches readers are accustomed to a certain amount of movement and action in the storylines and in this book not a lot happens and most of what does happen is endless intrigue and discussion by assorted sub-groups of vampires whom get re-acquainted or introduced for the 1st time. 'Prince Lestat: And The Realms of Atlantis' the following novel works a bit better -- aside from the beyond disappointing presentation of Atlantis -- because of a lot of the groundwork and world rebuilding and consolidating that Anne Rice does in this one. Like many other serialized properties, a working knowledge of the preceding books, events, characters, and terminology helps the reader quite a bit.
Alice in Wonderland Collection: All Four Books
Alice in Wonderland Collection: All Four Books
For me, three stars means the book was okay. It was at least interesting enough for me to finish reading it. Also, you should know, this was a very slow read for me. It claims to have 200 pages. I read it on my Kindle so it's hard to say for sure. All I can figure is that the print on the original pages is very small because it took me at least 1.5 times as long to read it as it would any other 200 page book. Now, on with the review.

I decided a while back that I should read more of the classics—kid’s or otherwise. I’ve always heard that "Alice in Wonderland" is a strange book; that the author was high on drugs when he wrote it. Once I started reading it, I agreed that it is rather weird—in a whimsical sort of way. I don’t think the author was high, I think he was just imaginative. I liken reading "Alice in Wonderland” akin to listening to someone tell about the dream they had last night. Some of it is hysterically funny, and other parts are just plain weird. Overall though, I found the book quite delightful.

That being said, this particular edition is actually four books in one: Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Hunting of the Snark, and Alice Underground.

Alice Through the Looking Glass was much like Alice in Wonderland although Alice falls through the looking glass in her family room to get to the other side where everything is opposite. It still reads like a dream.

Hunting the Snark is a poem and I can’t even really tell you what it was about. Basically, just a bunch of nonsense – at least to me.

Alice Underground was just a shorter version of Alice in Wonderland. So, if you want to get an idea of what Alice in Wonderland is like, just read the first two books in this set of four. I probably would have given this book four stars had I stopped after the second book.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Ravenclaw Edition Blue
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Ravenclaw Edition Blue
I am LOVING the House version of the series and can't wait until it's all out so my series is complete. I love the illustration and house-specific facts given at the beginning and some at the end. I haven't read this since it came out 20+ years ago and am looking forward to an adult re-read of every book eventually. I own the first three in the series and believe the other ones will come available as they hit their 20th anniversary release date.

The only downsides: I wish they were larger - like the size most original hardbacks are, but they're pretty small. Not like, smaller than a normal book, but small-ish. I also wish it were printed on better paper. This is very stiff, generic paper. The binding is printed with the Ravenclaw colors and am interested to see how that stands up to the handling during a full read of the book. It could have been done on nicer paper, quality print on the binding, etc., but...perhaps some series will do that eventually.

These are released in the UK and shipped here via UK book stores as the website itself can't sell them to people in the US - regardless, they weren't all released there yet, either, so not much information about the alternation of colors. I figured out via a friend in Ireland that the books indeed alternate color. The first hardback is black, the second is blue (it's a purple-ish sort of blue), the third is black and will continue on alternating. The paperback version follows the opposite order.

Anyway - I love, love, love this whole design series (and obviously the books) and highly recommend getting this set started.
Funko Harry Potter George Weasley Pop Figure,Orange
Funko Harry Potter George Weasley Pop Figure,Orange
This product was purchased a a gift for our son. He collects Funko Pop! Harry Potter figures, so we obviously love the product. The main concern, for us, is that the box that the figure comes in is intact and unblemished. Our son doesn't remove the figures from their original packaging, so a damaged box would be disappointing. This was not the case. The product was delivered in perfect condition and we couldn't be happier.
MapofBeauty 32" 80cm Long Straight Anime Costume Cosplay Wig Party Wig (Golden Orange)
MapofBeauty 32" 80cm Long Straight Anime Costume Cosplay Wig Party Wig (Golden Orange)
I got the wig for Mikan Tsumiki from SDR2. I cut the bangs, and will possibly cut the wig for Mikan's actual hairstyle. But the wig tangles VERY easily!! I own 2 other MapOfBeauty wigs that i use for Kaede and Kiyo from DRV3, and they don't tangle nearly as much (the one i use for Kaede is just a little shorter, the one i use for Kiyo goes to just about the same length since i cut it, but used to go past my elbows). I kept it braided and then wore it twice for testing makeup. There are already plenty of tangles, especially near the top actually. My advice is, keep the wig braided when not in use, and comb out the tangles with spray. I use simply water mixed with shampoo and it does the job easy! I'll be going as Mikan to a con very soon using this wig, so i'll update it afterward like i do with most cosplays/wigs i wear to cons. If you'd like to see how the wig looks, my TikTok is _cursedcosplay_
EDIT: The con i went to passed, so i'm updating this: the wig, like i said, tangles MUCH MORE EASILY THAN OTHER MAPOFBEAUTY WIGS. i'm going to have to take a star off because of it, sadly. Like i said, a very nice wig but, despite it being shorter than wigs i have that caused a LOT of issues with tangling, it's knotted easily. I'm likely going to buy a new wig for Mikan at one point. I also cut the wig in numerous places to be closer to Mikan's actual hair style, it's very thin in some of those places but that's understandable. It also frizzes extremely easily. I know all wigs tangle and frizz, but its much more visible with this one.
Yet another edit: Like i said, i'm likely going to buy a new Mikan wig if possible, or go back to using my natural hair like i did for a long time. Despite the wig going to around my regular hair length, and me brushing and combing it when needed, it is VERY tangly. I use detangler and a comb, plus wig brush, and keep it braided, and it doesn't work much. When I've brushed it gently, whole WEFTS have come out. My friend has a Mapofbeauty wig in the same color, or well, had one. Despite her keeping good care of it, it tangled easy and was barely wearable. So the purple colors aren't that great imo.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Enchanted Postcard Book
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Enchanted Postcard Book

Re-marks Harry Potter Wizards Magnetic Page Clips (2 Pack)
Re-marks Harry Potter Wizards Magnetic Page Clips (2 Pack)
I purchased this and another one of these at the same time with the same issues, so I will be leaving the same review on the other package. Unfortunately, the consistently poor packaging of items such as these are a contributing factor when it comes to receiving damaged items.

I agree with other reviewers that these are quite flimsy, I do think they're absolutely adorable so I purchased others that I didn't have before. The problems with these are multiple.

First, several packages I received had multiple creases in the backing they're inserted into - meaning that, for one, they can't really be given as a gift as I intended but also makes the integrity of what you just supposedly purchased as new highly questionable.

Second, these really just do not hold up to ANY handling/use at all. I used a Harry Potter one while reading one of the HP books - and I'm very careful with my fandom paraphernalia. Yet, after only a couple of days, the bookmark had already "broken" - not apart but a visible, full-width crease across my poor, unsuspecting Harry.

Thirdly, for the price, you really have to be willing to shell out the money just because it's HP related - don't expect great quality. They're not paper-thin but definitely barely cardstock.

On the upside, the magnets work reasonably well and, again, they're almost too cute for words. What is frustrating, however, is that with these, given that they arrived damaged, I wanted to get a replacement but was offered only the choice to get a refund to a gift card or original payment form - which is pretty ridiculous given that I shouldn't have to make a separate transaction in order to get a product in the new condition I purchased it in.
LEGO Dimensions Building Toy Pack (Harry Potter Hermione Granger 71348)
LEGO Dimensions Building Toy Pack (Harry Potter Hermione Granger 71348)
My grandson loves Harry Potter. This Hermione Granger set was the only one Harry Potter set available when I was shopping for his birthday. I didn't stop to thing that, while Hermione was definitely the brain of the trio, she was not a big part of the action. So there's really not much to be played in Dimensions with this character. Pick a different one.

These compatible PTouch label tape work great in my PT-D210. I just popped out the old cartridge and put this one in and it worked right away for printing labels. The print comes out great and they stick fine. I used them for labeling my charging wires that come with my electronics and devices. They are also useful for labelling our filing pockets. We will be using them to label the kids' back to school supplies. The cartridges came professionally packed and sealed individually in sturdy plastic. Great value for a 5 pack.
Big Data: How Data Analytics Is Transforming the World
Big Data: How Data Analytics Is Transforming the World
It isn't fair to call this a 24-Chapter Info-Mercial, but that's pretty close. The instructor is chronically hyper-excited about his anecdotes, and speaks at great length about very little. Approx. 30% of lecture time is given over to sports score comparisons, and another 20% to politics, while barely mentioning the merchandising, spying, and election rigging which are, after all, the main purpose of Data Analytics. There's practically nothing about the nuts and bolts of Data gathering, manipulation, and the rampant invasion of privacy that this involves. If you have any background in Computer Science or related fields, you'll find very little here; there's probably enough material for six lectures.
Something's Not Right: Decoding the Hidden Tactics of Abuse--and Freeing Yourself from Its Power
Something's Not Right: Decoding the Hidden Tactics of Abuse--and Freeing Yourself from Its Power
I grew up in church as a minister's kid so I heard a lot of stories of strange things ministry leaders said and did. But after I graduated college, moved from home, and started participating in a church as an adult in a church I loved and thought loved me, I experienced directly what I now understand was abuse. I was young, restless, and reformed and joined a one-year-old church in the ATL area whose lead pastor had a lot of clout in reformed circles, so they quickly gained my trust. I bought my first house in the area of the church, started serving on the music team, became a deacon, met my wife and got married at this church, and we were raising our children there. All that to say that this community was very formative in my life. Long story short, 10 yrs later, when my wife and I left the church and wrote a letter to the leaders highlighting just some of ours' and others' experiences that had caused us to lose our trust, their response made it clear that we made the right decision to leave. It was not long after leaving that I found Wade Mullen's writings on Medium and Twitter and everything he was writing about was as though he had been a psychologist observing our experience through a glass and detailing the analysis of behaviors. When my wife was reading this, she would frequently break the silence, "OH MY GOODNESS! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO!" We have many friends who have also since left because of similar experiences and we've been delighted to point them to this book for help in understanding what they've experienced. We also have friends still there who, because of their spouses, feel trapped. Though we left two years ago, our experiences still haunt us, but we are so thankful that this book helped us put a name to our experience. It's brought great freedom to us and enabled us to be there for others. If, by God's providence, you have experienced or seen wickedness in ministry leadership yourself, I hope you would be willing to take advantage of what you can learn from this book as a means to be a comfort to others. Peace be with you!

Pretty darn good! I will attach pics but I got this for my 85 pound working line Czech German shepherd (Read: Difficult) (xxl) and 10 pound cat (medium) and they fit pretty on point. The xxl can probably fit a dog up to 10 pounds heavier because it stretches well but It’s not easy getting the arms through...It’a a 2 person job. He is the most difficult animal in existence, so perhaps you won’t have such a hard time. The cat was easy and started purring immediately...He is easy like a Sunday morning in general though. He posed with it on for multiple shots and even wore his all day. The colors add perfect flair and arent too thick or stiff. Thankfully this isn’t the first time I’ve gussied up the lil man, who is actually the obedient one anyways. If I had to wash it, It probably wouldn’t last longer than a few washes....But for the price that’s perfectly fine. They will be wearing this for a few photos, although the cat play fought me to get it off. Excuse me, while I reassure the dog barking at the wind.

I ordered two Xbox One Kinect sensors for a project i am working on and i ordered them around a day apart but both came from the same seller who was selling certified refurbished (this is a 100% lie as Microsoft does not authorize any dealers or distributors to certify anything), however there is a considerable savings so i was willing to take a chance that it could be a little banged up but fully expected the sensor would be in full working order. Both sensors i bought smelled really bad of cigarette smoke so the seller is likely a pawn shop simply passing off pawned/used sensors as certified refurbished which shouldn't be allowed. BUYERS BEWARE you get what you pay for, make sure your sensor fully works, one of mine did not arrive and was 100% dead on arrival which i returned and have since bought another sensor which is on it's way, so hopefully this 3rd sensor will work.

First off, great price for an all in one kit. I love that you can make a complete room with this kit.

Two things that are kind of annoying but easily dealt with:
1. The instructions are not totally step by step for everything. Yes, they are easy to figure out if you’ve crafted before, but if you’re giving this kit to a child or teen, they could have questions. There’s steps missing for furniture builds and there’s zero instructions on how to fold up some of the paper boxes. Like I said, easy enough for most people to figure out, but worth mentioning.
2. The “wood” furniture pieces for one of the brown shelves were different shades of brown, which wasn’t an issue for me because I painted them, but if you are super picky about that, grab some brown paint and paint them all the same shade.

I’m still building this right now, with A LOT of customization because I didn’t like the color and design choices for a lot of the pieces, but I really am enjoying it. I will try to post pictures here when I finish.

I would also definitely get another one of these kits in the future. I do recommend the kit.

One of my favorite things about the kit is the paper that has all of the pieces printed on it, true to size. It takes the guessing out of what piece is what!

I’ve made the exterior walls nicer by using cork board to make bricks, and I used coffee stir sticks to make hard wood instead of the ugly checkerboard paper floor they’ve provided.

Mastery Mart Shredded Memory Foam Pillow, Removable Bamboo Pillowcase, Adjustable Orthopedic Pillow, Hypoallergenic for Stomach, Neck& Side Sleeper, Anti Snore Pillow (King size)
This is my first ever shredded memory foam pillow and I like it. I REALLY couldn't get on with the Panda pillow I ordered about a year ago (that was a solid block of memory foam) and I was having trouble finding a brand of pillow that was the right height for me (they seemed either too puffy or too flat).

I liked the idea of shredded foam as I guessed I could take some out or move it around until I was happy.

When it arrived, as many other reviews have said, it was very flat. Once you break open the vacuum though it'll quickly begin to expand. Still, I would recommend that after about 10-30 minutes you unzip the inner pillow case and just start tearing apart any memory foam that has become stuck together as a result of the vacuum. For me, the pillow then doubled in size and it was about perfect (it looks massive in the photo, but it really isn't that big - ha).

I didn't have to take any memory foam out myself (I see that others have). I usually sleep with two pillows, but this single pillow is now right for me. I didn't put a pillow case on it as it comes with one (although it's not the best looking - see photo). The reason I didn't is because the pillow is too large for most that I have and it ends up compacting it, ruining the comfort of it. I think I'll need to order a larger pillow case to resolve this - although the one it came with is fine for now.

As I had hoped, the shredded foam means that you can easily adjust the shape of the pillow and the angle of the stuffing to get that 'head on a cloud' feeling. That being said, it's still a pretty firm pillow - so you won't feel like your head has sunk into it like you do with some pillows.

Overall, I'm fairly impressed with this pillow and it seems to be well priced compared to other memory foam pillows (although expensive compared to standard ones from Asda, etc).

I still don't think I can claim to have found 'the best pillow ever', but I'm happy to take this one as a stop on the journey! :D
