Steve Jobs - The Simple Guide To
Steve Jobs - The Simple Guide To
This is a very short read on the life of Steve Jobs. In fact it's a synopsis of his entire life. However, there were some important issues which were not included which I feel are necessary in reference to Steve Job's rebuilding of Apple. After Mr. Jobs returned to Apple; both the Stock and the general up keep of Apple's Infrastructure was a mess. Apple had been selling off many of it's copywrites in order to satisfy the Stockholders who apparently depended on Quarterly Dividends. I think the secret of Steve Jobs with Apple was the important fact that he removed Apples requirements to pay Dividends and simply add earned income (or Interest) to Principal. In this manner, Apple was cash rich enough to devote more time to making continued improvements to all of Apple's Products. All of us have noted there have been continued changes as well as upgrades with the MAC, the Smart Phone, new versions of the I-Pads and such over time. Aside from what I have stated, the Guide to Steve Jobs was well written. Thank you.
Think Like Amazon: 50 1/2 Ideas to Become a Digital Leader
Think Like Amazon: 50 1/2 Ideas to Become a Digital Leader
Think Like Amazon is a book of ideas based on the author's personal knowledge of how Amazon has followed 14 Leadership Principles ever since he was a key executive there in the difficult years of 2002 through 2005, back when AMZN was selling for under $10 a share. Rossman joined Amazon as the company's first Director of Merchant Integration, in which role he created the third-party platform that now accounts for more than half of physical gross merchandise sales at Amazon.com. In 2002, success was by no means a sure thing. eBay dominated the space, and Amazon had failed twice before to launch its own platform for third-party sellers.

Although he worked at Amazon for only three years 14 years ago, Rossman supplements his direct experience with close attention to the annual shareholder letters written by Jeff Bezos, as well as continuing contacts with people still at the company. After leaving Amazon, Rossman created a niche business advisory firm, Rossman Partners. His clients have included the Gates Foundation, Microsoft, Nordstrom, T-Mobile, and Walmart. He is also a frequent speaker on the topics of innovation and corporate culture.

The writing in his book is generally crisp and clear, organized in usefully concise chapters, one for each actionable idea. As Rossman suggests, it would be a good resource for a team of innovators to read and discuss together, taking up one of the 50 ideas each week for a year (with two weeks off, maybe to rest!). Some of the content, however, felt like padding to me, such as a lengthy Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) which the author helped prepare for a startup company named Modjoul.

When Rossman was at Amazon, the 14 Leadership Principles had not yet been formalized, but he and his fellow executives "talked about them every day and used them to make decisions."

If you've ever wondered "what would Jeff Bezos do" in a business challenge or opportunity you are facing, you might benefit from studying Rossman's list of ideas and then filling in your own second half to the question which he poses as Idea 50 1/2: "How will you build the traits of the truly digital business and culture to ensure Amazon-like results, to become the best digitally enabled business you can be and not become roadkill on the side of the digital disruption highway?"

Good question. Good book, too.
The Return of the Moguls: How Jeff Bezos and John Henry Are Remaking Newspapers for the Twenty-First Century
The Return of the Moguls: How Jeff Bezos and John Henry Are Remaking Newspapers for the Twenty-First Century
Buyer alert: You’ll have dog-earned too many pages and underlined too many salient points to re-gift this compelling study of how newspapers struggle to survive.
Dan Kennedy, one of the country’s leading media critics, combines deftly written history, scores of interviews and expert speculation. The result: a comprehensive look at the financial perils facing quality journalism and the possible ways it can function in the Twitterverse.

The moguls he examines are Washington Post owner and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Boston Globe owner and billionaire investor John Henry, and Internet entrepreneur and former Orange County Register owner Aaron Kushner (no relation to Jared).

Kennedy credits Bezos and Henry with understanding and their papers’ civic and journalistic mission. He criticizes Kushner’s “print first” approach, convinced that newspapers’ future depends on combining print and digital, “and perhaps other sources yet to be discovered.”
His colorful anecdotes about the New York Times, Globe and Post’s past make this sprightly reading, and he buttresses his conclusions with experience.

Kennedy notes, “No newspaper executive has figured out a way to prosper during the 20-year era of the commercial Internet.” Still, it’s heartening to note outstanding work done by smaller papers who live under the financial gun, like the Asbury Park Press’s Renter Hell series on hazardous living conditions in New Jersey’s government-supported housing, and the Indianapolis Star’s groundbreaking two-year investigation into the sexual abuse of gymnasts.

Quality journalism today has never been more needed – or more imperiled. The Return of the Moguls poses important questions and possible solutions to this dilemma- and plenty of fodder for discussion about the press and democracy.

The medium worked according to the size chart and worked for the person I gave it too. However I’ll say it’s a touch on the small side- just a little. Stuck to the chart recommendation but keep in mind this will have more of a fitted note square look on the torso. Excellent quality!
The Other Side of the Mirror - Bob Dylan Live at The Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965 [Blu-ray]
The Other Side of the Mirror - Bob Dylan Live at The Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965 [Blu-ray]
This film edits together songs from Dylan's day and night performances at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963/64/65. It does not show Dylan's entire performances from each year. It also includes brief clips of and with other acts (especially Joan Baez, whom Dylan was dating at the time), the audience's reactions, etc. The editing and choices of clips (and choice of omissions) help the viewer see first hand how Dylan was perceived and treated by the masses and how his confidence grew and persona and style changed over those 3 years. It makes it much easier for a modern viewer to understand the controversy felt when Dylan included an electric set with a band in 1965.

For this reason, I think it is a valuable film. The footage remains raw and grainy, not remastered, but the image and sound are decent for the time and intended effect. There's a lot of footage I've never seen. For the price I highly recommend this DVD. It's well packaged and includes a short but informative booklet.

Here's a listing of the songs (an * denotes my personal favs) and some personal notes after only 1 viewing.

Songs from 1963:
North Country Blues, With God On Our Side, Talkin' World War 3 Blues, Who Killed Day Moore*, Only a Pawn In Their Game, Blowin' In the Wind*. In 1963, Dylan really seems like a Woody Guthrie imitator, almost "acting" the role at times. The introduction he's given shows how much the folk world expected him to be the "saviour" of folk music, the "spokesman and poet" of his generation, etc. That's a lot of unnecessary weight thrown at a new artist and Dylan later proves he was never in it for others. In 1963, he's loving the attention, power and freedom. It's also funny how his talking songs are so like rapping, and by 1963 this was already a old style used by blues artists! In 1963, Dylan was "one of the people", at one with his audience, interacting with them on and off stage.

Songs from 1964:
Mr. Tambourine Man, It Ain't Me Babe*, With God On Our Side, Chimes of Freedom. Never seen Dylan smile so much as when he's with Baez. Enjoy listening to them harmonize, even if it's improvised and sloppy. Baez has a more powerful voice than I had heard before. Mr Tambourine Man hadn't been recorded yet when he performed it. In 1964, Dylan was rising above his audience, becoming less reachable, and talking to them from his stage. Not sure that he was enjoying the celebrity status and the weight of expectations thrown upon him. You can see how becomes more cynical, partly as a defense mechanism.

Songs from 1965:
All I Really Want to Do, If You Gotta Go Go Now*, Love Minus Zero/No Limit, Maggie's Farm*, Like a Rolling Stone*, Mr Tambourine Man, It's All Over Now Baby Blue*. He's strumming the guitar more now instead of finger picking it, and playing more rhythmically, so that even the acoustic numbers now suggest the feel of a backing band. Also, by using a capo so much, his acoustic songs are usually only based on a few chords, in the folk tradition. His rock type songs have more chords. It's cool to see how much more agile his voice was when he was young. The band plays well, in Dylan's manner of jamming. The crowd has mixed reactions, only about half are booing him during the electric set and the crowd still wants an encore, which he gives acoustically. In 1965, Dylan is a star/celebrity and distanced from the audience. He's in his own world and talks at them but not with them. The look is different, he's got his walls of defense up and he really wants to be accepted in the rock world too. I think he was hoping the fans would follow and he was genuinely hurt and taken off-guard at their reaction. It also shows that he was never thinking about the folkies' expectations in the first place and never out for them. After all the support and love they gave him, he turned out to be their Judas indeed. However, Dylan truly loved folk (along with rock and blues and country) and his music was true, if only to himself --- therefore it is not true that he waved the folk flag of convenience until he was popular enough to gain acceptance into the rock world.

A few other thoughts after watching this:

Surprising how soon after he met the Beatles that they BOTH changed. On the Beatles' next albums (Help!, Beatles For Sale, Rubber Soul) we see acoustic numbers and personal lyrics (especially by Lennon). Dylan's next album is half electric and the songs are more musically complex and have more chords in them.

Dylan clearly had (has) a talent for lyrics and song writing. As a singer and performer, he's clearly outclassed by pretty well everyone else. However, in the folk tradition of "truth" Dylan's raw voice and playing help dress his songs in the apparel of truth, the bearing of personal thought and soul, etc. He's admired by the other artists as well as the fans. Another thing to remember is that, as important and popular as he was personally, his "folk" records never sold as well as those "rock" covers of his songs that became hits. Most people never heard Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man" with all the verses, until after the Byrds condensed version became a hit.

This films helps show how important Joan Baez was in popularizing Dylan. Pete Seeger was most important in popularizing folk music and giving it integrity, but it was the rare folk acts like the Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary who were hugely popular and sold a lot of records. In 1963, Joan Baez was the biggest female folk artist and Dylan's initial acceptance to the folk world was largely due to her support, etc. Their dating helped bring media attention and helped both their careers, in the sense of popularizing them beyond the folk market and into the pop realm, as the "royal queen and king" of folk. It's also easy to forget that the Dylan's first album was, in the true folk tradition, all cover songs and that the Dylan we know didn't make his mark until the second album.

It's sad that so few of the folk acts, who were so important and popular at the time, are ignored by contemporary radio. You may hear one or two Peter, Paul and Mary or Kingston Trio songs on the radio but rarely do we hear Joan Baez. The folk movement had plenty of great songs, but most of the artists and songs have become more legendary, more heard about than heard anymore. Except for Dylan, that is!

Webcam with Microphone, 1080P HD Webcam & Privacy Cover, USB Plug and Play Laptop PC Desktop Web Camera, 110-Degree View Angle Computer Camera for Video Calling Recording Conferencing
When I first got the box, it was very easy to setup the webcam. All I had to do was take the webcam out of the box and plug in the USB into my laptop. When I first plugged in the webcam and opened my camera app, I saw that the quality was a bit pixelated when compared to my Logitech, but that was simply because I was located in a low lit area. When I added more lighting to the setting, it was able to capture proper video. The one issue that I found with the webcam is that it oversoftens the video, but this is not really that big of a problem if you are using the webcam for general purposes such as video chatting with friends and family. The reason that I bought the webcam was to use it as a security camera and it works very well for that purpose. The frames are smooth when recording and in the output. The wide angle allows me to include multiple people in the frame and is very helpful. I have attached some photos and a video so that you can see what I am talking about.

Honestly, I am very impressed with this webcam. I bought it with not very high expectations because of the price but this just blew me away. The camera is very easy to use, just plug in and boom you are set. The image quality is quite nice also and super detailed. The image is not oversaturated and the colors and calibrated perfectly to display a soft but natural-looking image and stands at a great resolution. The microphone input is also great. I needed this because currently I work from home and have to attend business meetings and all my co-workers could hear me perfectly through the microphone of the webcam. This webcam also has a very nice 110 degree wide-angle which I find very useful for my purposes. The latch at the bottom of the webcam is also very useful. The latch allows for universal compatibility on any monitor or any surface that you would need to place the webcam on while also providing adjustable angles. I used this on both my PC (which is running windows 10) and my Mac and on both of them the webcam worked without a single problem. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap and reliable webcam.

Grandchildren love it but why no option like other TV shows to buy the season? $1.99 per episode is a rip off since you aren't even getting a half hour episode like you would with other shows.
Mojave Crossing (Sacketts Book 9)
Mojave Crossing (Sacketts Book 9)
William Tell Sackett is not my favorite of the Sackett fellas. There's something about him that annoys me; maybe it's all the stupid decisions he makes, like wandering through the desert with no water and no exact idea of where water can be found. Why didn't he double back and get behind the crooks following him? It's the little things that make or break a man. I know I definitely wouldn't hire Tell to be my guide through the west.

I spent three-quarters of the book wondering where Tell's gal disappeared to, even though I don't like Ange and wasn't put out by not reading about her. I thought I had messed up the chronology of the series but then, near the end of the story, L'Amour explains her absence. It would've been nice to know that information earlier.

The biggest appeal (for me) about this story is that one of the antagonists is a female, the first time we've seen L'Amour break the "girls are sugar and spice" ideology (and her involvement is obvious so this isn't a spoiler). And it was a pretty good crime too, if only she'd gotten away with it.

We also meet Nolan Sackett in this story and hear about him being an outlaw. What all has ol' Nolan done, to be branded an outlaw? That's a story I'd like to read.

Gods & Gangsters (An Illuminati Novel)
This book is a whole new level of the dark! I could not put it down once I started reading it. Every detail was well described and pictured in a novel that you feel you are engaged in all of the events happening throughout the book. The author shows a very noticeable skill in developing the characters. All of the characters' personalities were so well developed and detailed that you felt like you knew every single one of them; and the story was aligned throughout the book.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book very much and I definitely recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading novels.

The book had a few creases here there. The product did not arrive in its best condition. But the rest aside, this is great book. I prefer 3-in-1 editions rather than single volumes. The cover art is just mind-blowing. Nice story covered. I have no problem recommending this product.

Harry Potter Gryffindor Christmas Stocking
Harry Potter Gryffindor Christmas Stocking
I’ve been after a Harry Potter Christmas stocking that I liked for ages and then I saw this one listed and I thought that’s the stocking I want and it’s a bonus as it has the House name on as I am a Gryffindor girl. I just love Harry Potter. This stocking is the perfect size to hang above a fire place or the foot of the bed. Its also very well made and this seller by far is the cheapest I’ve seen this item. Delivery was fast too as I didn’t think it would arrive in time for Christmas and it has.

I purchased this for my friend's 9 year old birthday. She is a huge HP fan, and was having a HP themed birthday party. She loved it! She plans on asking for more of them to start a HP tree. Others have commented that it was cheap and poorly painted, but that was not my experience at all. One is on Amazon priced over $20 and the one I purchased was just under $8. Worth every penny!

I initially ordered these shoes in a size 8. They were too big, so I returned them and ordered a size 7 1/2. After less than a week, the shoes stretched out so bad that they literally fell off my feet. If you have a narrow heel, do not order these shoes.

Well, at least this show gave me something to take away. Now I know if ever there is an apocalyptic event, all I have to do is make my way to Titusvillle, Pa. Between supposed bad guys that are slow as...whatever and one chick that is supposed to be the heroine, the place looks like a cake walk for a real person. I mean if the best they can do is some chick that can't find an appropriate survival wardrobe and seems to get herself into a jam every 5 minutes, how hard can surviving be for someone that can use their brains?
I really like dystopian viewing and reading material, but even with a small budget, some things just need to happen. In a movie or series one thing is don't wait until the last episode to give really just a broad brush of what the overall plot was supposed to be, Feeding little tidbits throughout instead of walking around in circles is usually considered a good move. But, maybe this was supposed to build suspense, all the wandering round looking bad ass. Because it couldn't be assumed based on the first 5 minutes of episode 1 that our female protagonist was going to be the bad ass star of the show. Nope, let's burn at least another 10 to 15 minutes of every episode retelling that part of the story.

This is just really lame, writing, directing, acting. I can forgive the sets and props, but do something with what you have to work with other than running across the same roof 5 times or strolling through the same tire yard 10 times. I really can't believe this script wasn't discussed with at least one person that didn't roll their eyes and ask WTF. Then again, maybe Titusviille, Pa. is the place to be after bad things happen. I could get used to being the king. .

I know the instructions say to change to different blades if using this clipper on anything other than sheep. However, this clipper and the blades it came with are PERFECT for getting through the matted, thick, wool-like fur of my horse who exhibits all the symptoms of a pituitary gland tumor. He is SO much more comfortable now. I couldn't clip him all in one session, but then, I had broken wrist and was using the clipper one handed.

Love the power cord is plenty long -- I don't need to use an extension. I can even plug it in outside of his stall and clip him right in the stall on the mat if I want to. I got him about half done before I had to take the thing apart t clean out all the hair and oil and grunge clogging things up inside -- not hard to do and not too many pieces to keep track of.

I researched this brand because two years ago I bought their screen protector for my then new iphone directly at the carrier company store. That screen protector was amazing and still using it on the same phone with no issue at all. I still had the packaging so I searched on Amazon for the same brand name and found it. The installation is very easy because it come with a green plastic case which align your phone and comes with easy to follow instructions cleaning kit as well. End of the story it was easy to install when I put the protector on at first there was a big bubble in the center which disappeared with a bit of work with my fingers and now I have a perfectly applied screen protector. I was very satisfied with my first purchase at the store, let's see if this one follow through! I know it is a bit more expensive than others but I decided to buy it anyway as I have had a previous good experience.
