Who Was Stan Lee? (Who Was?)
Who Was Stan Lee? (Who Was?)
My son had to do a project for history class where he picks someone famous that has passed away, and writes a book report on the person and "presents" the information while dressed like the person. He is a huge Stan Lee fan so we googled for books. This one is perfect for his age. (My son is in 3rd grade.) The book is an easy read, not too long, but has tons of information on Stan Lee's life. My son really enjoyed reading this and did a great job writing his report. The book is a chapter book but does have some pictures so it's still entertaining for young readers. A+

Elon Musk: The Greatest Lessons Through the Inspiring Life of Elon Musk (Elon Musk, Tesla, SpaceX, Biography, Business Lessons, Life Lessons, Future)
This is not a book -- It is a short article that could be read in 15 minutes. While interesting if you know nothing of Elon Musk, it is so poorly written that it is unreadable. Writing style is at the third grade level, with many passages impossible to understand. Here is an example:

"Ultimately, Eberhard was let go from the company with both Eberhard and Tesla Motors, funder the leadership of Musk, filing legal suits regarding parts of the issue."
Amazon Jeff's Big Discovery: Jeff the charming deer searches for his special skill in the Amazon rainforests
Amazon Jeff's Big Discovery: Jeff the charming deer searches for his special skill in the Amazon rainforests
I totally loved this book and felt like it was timely even for my adult life! I would read this to my children not only because the pictures are absolutely adorable but because it teaches them that it's totally fine to try new things so that they can figure out what they like and what they are good at and that it's ok to not be successful the first time around when trying out new things. I also really want my children to know that they can ask me, their friends or anyone else that they trust to help them in their exploration. The rhymes in the story are fun to read and kids will love them. As a mom and aunt, I'm so glad that I bought this book and would do it again. It's on Kindle too.
Disguise Inc - The Candidate Vacuform Election Half Mask
Disguise Inc - The Candidate Vacuform Election Half Mask
The mask rested a bit too low on my nose and would have had to tip my head up just to see in front of me. I ended up just taping additional foam backing to the nosepiece inside to raise it a bit. The cord seemed just a touch on the loose side (and I have a hat size 7.5 head), but it managed to stay on for the brief time that I wore it. Would be nice if it could be tightened easily.

Got this for a Halloween joke costume but I guess now that he's prez I might actually use this again?
Google: The Unofficial Guide
Google: The Unofficial Guide
I made the mistake of buying two of Travis Hunter's books, Google: The Unofficial Guide ($2.99) and The Google Way ($7.99). The first half of The Google Way is basically the first few chapters of the Unofficial Guide. The Google Way has a lot more on Google Docs, but the rest of the text is otherwise pretty much identical with Unofficial Guide. So, if you buy the Google Way, don't buy the Unofficial Guide. If you don't need a lot of information on Google Docs, then get the cheaper book. In a way, though, the author is putting the same book under two titles.

Babe: The Legend Comes to Life
Babe: The Legend Comes to Life
I love good biographies even if I don't have much sympathy for the sport, the time or the man/woman. They can bring a person to life and a era unlike a novel or any other medium. This is a good one, if not a great one about a legend. Baseball people dwell on statistics and this bio has plenty of those, but they are woven into and around the life of a man that stands as the Everest of baseball legends. I'm not necessarily a base ball "freak" or addict, but I sometimes read a topical book in and around an event or place. I picked this book because it is a baseball book in the "Fall Classic" time frame of the year and I don't watch baseball. This book made me interested. The bio part of the Ruth story is described in a way that makes the stats from the ball playing really come to life just as the title states! How good was Ruth? Was he the best ever? How did he compare to the modern player? These are the questions I had when I began the book. This book helped me arrive at the answers to my own questions. How good was Ruth? So good even the greatest of the great were stunned by his baseball abilities. Was he the best ever? I think so, but you can decide. I can only be amazed that if it were not for his hall of fame hitting statistics, he might have become a hall of fame pitcher. Was he the best ever? Well, steroids have clouded the hitting stats and confused the comparisons, but overall I can think of no player to compare him to in all facets of the game, so my answer is "yes" he was the best ever. What kind of a person was he? Well, that is really what the book is about and I'll let other readers draw their own conclusions.
Drop Dead Beautiful: A Novel (Lucky Santangelo Book 6)
Drop Dead Beautiful: A Novel (Lucky Santangelo Book 6)
Nobody writes better stories about rich, famous people than Jackie Collins. In the sixth book in her Lucky Santangelo series, she shows she's still on top. No whiny chick-lit about life at the bottom of the ladder even comes close. Though I like her books that start with characters before they're rich and famous more than the ones that start with the money and power already in place, after the first couple chapters are done gushing about how rich and famous everyone is, I get in my Jackie groove and go along for the ride.

This story starts with Lucky on the brink of opening a posh new resort in Las Vegas, the Keys. Her life is already plenty hectic with two teenage kids at home, one her wild and impetuous 16-year-old daughter, Max. Max is dying to get together with the hottie she's been chatting up on the internet. She concocts a story about going out of town with a girlfriend, and she's off to meet Internet Guy in the KMart parking lot in Big Bear. Once there, she meets hot, 19-year-old Ace, just in time for the two of them to get kidnapped by her on-line buddy, who morphs into Internet Freak.

Meanwhile, an old Santangelo enemy, Francesca Bonnatti, is poised to take revenge. When she discovered her dead son Enzio had left a bastard son behind in Italy, she took young Anthony under her wing and raised him to be a successful businessman/drug lord. Francesca tells Anthony that it's time for vengeance on the Santangelos, so Anthony puts in place a plot to destroy the Keys Resort and put Lucky out of business. Anthony is a busy boy, flying between a number of cities where he does business, keeping two mistresses, and a wife trapped in Mexico City.

Irma, Anthony's wife, is growing bored and restless. Her restrictive existence doesn't allow for much fun, especially since her husband quit visiting her bed after their children were born. Luis, the young gardener, starts to look like a tasty pastime. Soon, she craves his touch, but if Anthony ever found out, there would be hell to pay.

The story jumps and spins from one character to another as the drama unfolds and the suspense builds. Will Max and Ace escape their kidnapper? Will Lucky's best friend, superstar Venus Maria, stay with her younger boyfriend, movie star Billy Melina? Who keeps sending Lucky cards that say only "Drop Dead Beautiful"? Will Anthony find out about Irma's infidelity with the gardener? And will his plot to destroy the Keys at its grand opening succeed?

Jackie Collins is not classic literature, but her books are flat-out fun. Her secret seems to lie in not having too much respect for any of her characters, though Lucky Santangelo has always been an exception to the rule. Raunchy, sexy, and at times violent, a Jackie Collins novel always delivers.
War Party: Stories (Sacketts Book 10)
War Party: Stories (Sacketts Book 10)
If you are looking for Tell Sackett there is only one short story. All of the stories are short and quickly read. They end quick too at times where the story is really about to begin. I found that a little frustrating. The stories have a moral message too for example there is an Irish drunkard that saves a town all alone from raiding Apaches. He was of so low regard that the town folks left him when fleeing the town. Kind of unbelieveable in my opinion.

But if you like L'Amour you will enjoy the book. I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because I was hoping for more stories on Tell Sackett.

My Descent Into Death: A Second Chance at Life
My Descent Into Death: A Second Chance at Life
I'm a skeptic of anyone who says they talked to Jesus first hand..... But I'm entirely taken by Howard Storms account..... In this world there are too many Joseph Smith's, Jim Jones's, Mohammed's, David Koresh's, Marshall Applewhites, and other self proclaimed prophets who say they received special messages from god and were chosen ones, yet abuse people for their own personal glory and self praise..... However, Howard Storm's story is entirely different, he tells a narrative of pain and humility, and his experience is entirely in line with Christian beliefs. His self description throughout the novel renders him to be the least of mankind, the same as Paul's self description. The experience he describes is embarrassing at times and it gets downright gruesome at one point where he won't even tell us the details of what happened. If you pay attention while reading this book you'll notice he discounts himself and only gives praise to god. His conversion is entirely verifiable, even his wife will agree he was an atheist before and a religious nutcase after his recovery and she was an opponent, which makes her account quite credible.

I don't know, I wasn't there when this happened to him..... But I 'm learning towards believing the dude. Either way this book is a great read. It's fully within Christian thinking and beliefs. It does not promote Howard at all, but 100 percent promotes God. the writing is a little weak, but the story makes up for it. The only thing controversial thing about it is when he asked Jesus about the future and Mr storm described seeing a significantly reduced population and lack of technology.....

Black Orchids/The Silent Speaker: Nero Wolfe Mysteries
Black Orchids/The Silent Speaker: Nero Wolfe Mysteries
The ordered Nero Wolfe shadowed seated in chair with orchid cover of, "Black Orchids/The Silent Speaker" by Bantam books, was NOT what I received.

I received a 'Green Door Mystery' edition of Nero Wolfe "The Black Orchids", with no second story, by Pyramid Books, dated 1963.

No letter from the seller was inside the package, explaining the switch of the printed editions.

I am NOT returning this book, because the title 'Black Orchids', and that story are the same.
Suffice it to say, that when this particular book was published in 1963, the price on the spine of the book is 50 cents.
That should show you, that in those days of writing, a penny a word, really meant something to the writer's finances.

Five stars for the storyline;
Zip, zero, nada, neechevaw nyet, for the seller!
The First Rex Stout Omnibus: Featuring Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin: " The Doorbell Rang " , " The Second Confession " and " More Deaths Than One "
The First Rex Stout Omnibus: Featuring Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin: " The Doorbell Rang " , " The Second Confession " and " More Deaths Than One "
I love Rex Stout. Archie and Nero had to be two of the most obnoxious detectives in the history of detective fiction. Between Nero's eating and Archie's remarks regarding women past their sell-by date, I really like these guys. When I was a young teenager first reading these books, I loved Archie and his hard-boiled ways with women. Now that I'm approaching (or even in) middle age, I can completely get behind Nero using his genius to fund reading and eating.

First a note about the omnibus edition itself. This is a very strange selection of Wolfe novels, and they are bound in a very strange order. First of all, the omnibus publishes the books in an order opposite to the order in which they were published. So,

HARRY POTTER Charms Professor Quirrell Collectible 2" Toy Figure Playsets, Connect & Display to Create Memorable Scenes - 12 Different Figures to Collect!
I got these little playsets on sale at a deep discount. Even at the retail price they seem like a solid deal.

You get the miniature 2 inch Professor Quirrell figure, a mystery accessory and a chest the folds out into a little playset. If you get more of the sets you can connect them together to form one longer playset.

I don't think older fans will appreciate these as they would an action figure, or even a Funko Pop, but it should entertain the younger Harry Potter fans They just have a nice Polly Pocket type of look and feel to them!
Twice Round the Daffodils [VHS]
Twice Round the Daffodils [VHS]
A Bittersweet comedy with the delicious Juliet Mills and the lusty Donald Sinden took me back to the days when I was young and in love. . Now 50 years on I think of it each time I have the simple pleasure of seeing the Daffodils blooming in parks and my garden each year as I've made it through another Winter as the patients did . Walking twice around the bed of Daffodils unaided in front of the building meant they had made it through
Evolved into Carry on Nurse which was bawdier and noisier but I preferred the original in its sweetness and understated charm.

6-Outlet Swivel Space Saving 2 USB Port Surge Protector Wall Tap, Android, iPad, iPhone, iPod Compatible, 2100 Joules, 2.1 AMP Charge, White Finish,7791301
I bought this item mainly for the USB ports. However, like other Globe products, it suffers from one major flaw - the top prongs are plastic that are too short and not thick enough to actually "grab" the connectors inside the outlet causing it to fall out due to the weight of the cords. It is obvious that, had they made the top prongs the metal prongs, the weight of the cords would not pull the tap out of the outlet. An even better solution would be to make both sets of prongs metal. (I would pay more for such a design.) After repeatedly pushing the tap back into the outlet, I finally pulled the outlet out of the box, flipped it 180° and replaced it. Now the metal prongs are at the top as they should be;but, of course, the USB ports are on the bottom and the labels are upside down. CAUTION: If you do this, be sure to flip off the breaker to the outlet. I purchased an earlier Globe outlet with same flaw. Perhaps someday they will actually read the reviews and modify their design. If not for this flaw, I would certainly give this a 5 star rating. And, if not for my fix, I would only give it one. Perhaps the 2 star rating will get their attention.
Half the Blood of Brooklyn: A Novel (Joe Pitt Casebooks)
Half the Blood of Brooklyn: A Novel (Joe Pitt Casebooks)
In this, the third Joe Pitt mystery, Charlie Huston gets his blood-drinking anti-hero out of Manhattan ... but not far. Just over the bridge into Brooklyn.

Sent by his boss in The Society, the liberal/progressive/politically correct vampire clan, to meet with a clan called Freaks, Pitt finds himself in the middle of a shootout featuring a clan of Jewish vampires. If all this sounds over the top, then you don't know Pitt.

Huston has a gift for hard-boiled action and that hard-boiled action gets turned on its head when you consider that most of Huston's protagonist have fangs and super strength. Huston isn't afraid to dabble in some blood-drenched, graphic violence. But in scenes with Evie, Pitt's AIDS-infected girlfriend, he's equally at home with tenderness and the frustration that comes from watching a loved one sink further into death. Throughout the series Huston has had Joe Pitt wrestle with the issue of whether to infect Evie with the "vyrus" to cure her AIDS ... or would turning her into a vampire be a worse fate than AIDS? That issue gets resolved in Half the Blood of Brooklyn, though not in a way you might be expecting.

If there's one thing Huston does consistently well, it's building a vampire society that never fails to fascinate. From the corporate-style Coalition, to DJ Grave Digga's crew uptown in Harlem, to the hippie-ish Society and all the other vampire groups, Huston can make you gasp and laugh in equal measure. His various clans are a topsy-turvy take on modern society with generous amounts of blood and gore tossed in.
Transformers Beast Hunters Predacons Rising: Abominus Action Figure
Transformers Beast Hunters Predacons Rising: Abominus Action Figure
Very cool. For the combiner, one leg has to go slightly in front of the other for the thing to stand, but that's a minor complaint and probably it was necessary for the mechanics of the thing. It still looks awesome. The colors look great and the weapons are bad ass. Unfortunately, I couldn't fully combine the axe-gun thing the way it was advertised in the instructions, but the way it is still looks awesome. Apart from that annoying quality issue (come on, Hasbro. It's not that hard to test these things before they're packed up and sent away), the overall package is worth it. It's just very satisfying having a tiny combiner.

USB C Charging Station, 8 Ports Multiple USB Chargers with Fast Charger Port and LCD Display for iPhone 12 Cell Phones, Tablets and Other Electronics
I so much wanted to give a 5 star review for this product. The reason I purchased it was to be able to leave behind all my other chargers when I travel with my photo and dive equipment and just use this one device with my usual charging cables. The design is beautiful, straightforward. Everything worked at home when I tried it and then I took it with me for my recent 1 week trip to Belize.
On the fourth day of the trip my phone (Pixel 3) went into a charging loop when I connected the PD charger cable to it. This means that it started to charge and then stopped and then started again and every time it gave a sound effect. It did not charge effectively all night. I tried to re-plug, restart my phone, used a different outlet and different cable with no effect. Thankfully I had the OEM phone charger with me and when I plugged it in to the outlet, it worked flawlessly. So I stopped using it with my Pixel 3 phone. A day later the entire charger died. It would simply not turn on when I plugged it in the wall no matter which outlet I used. Again, I had some backup chargers with me and they all worked in the same outlets without any problem. Needless to say, by the time I returned from my vacation I just ran out of the 30-day warranty when I could return the item without any hassle although I only used it for less than 5 days.
I tried it this morning and now it is working again in my home outlet in the U.S. with occasional on and off looping of my Pixel 3 phone with the PD charger. My unfortunate conclusion is that I cannot rely on this device to take it with me to a trip and save on my luggage weight because I cannot afford to leave behind the OEM chargers for all my rechargable gear. I am really sorry because this seemed to be the only mildly charger with the PD port on Amazon that would perfectly fit my needs otherwise. I wonder if others had any similar experiences.
Tarjeta de regalo de Amazon.com en una tarjeta de felicitación (varios diseños)
Tarjeta de regalo de Amazon.com en una tarjeta de felicitación (varios diseños)
I spent over $2000 on gift cards for my friends and relatives. Already, one of them has told me that the gift card was not activated. Then when they reached out to amazon, the amazon response was to suggest that I had received extra gift cards and given them out. Not the case at all. They screwed up and entered the wrong serial number. Now my neice was embarrassed at a store and unable to purchase her items and I look like a thief who tried to give a stolen gift card. Thanks a lot Amazon. You have lost all of my personal gift card business-- and all of my company's gift card business which totalled another $5000 this year. I would have liked an apology but all I got was 26 minutes of some foreigner on the phone telling me that the best she could do was update the card in the next 48 hours to work. Seems like that was the least she could do!!!

Aokeou Knee Pillow, Memory Foam Leg Positioner Pillow for Side Sleeping, Leg Pillow with Strap for Leg Pain, Back Pain, Sciatica, Pregnancy, Side Sleepers (Blue)
I was advised to use a pillow or cushion between my legs by a Physiotherapist. This helps relieve the Sciatic pain. It does work but is cumbersome and moves about. I saw this special knee cushion and thought I would try it. I think it is wonderful, the strap keeps it in place so no more moving around the bed. It appears to be working because I have slept better and find the small cushion to be comfy and stays in place even if change position. I just ordered a second one for my husband who has restless leg. Definitely worth buying.

Alien: Hissing Xenomorph and Illustrated Book: With Sound! (RP Minis)
Alien: Hissing Xenomorph and Illustrated Book: With Sound! (RP Minis)
Details are in the figure. I thought this xenomorph bust was going to be at least 6" tall but nope, it's a tiny bugger, about a little over 2.5" tall, 1.5" wide and 3.5" long. The box immediately reminded me of those miniature toys that you see while waiting in line at a Barnes & Noble to check out, so my immediate expectation was real low. But as soon as I opened the box up, I was delighted to see that the figure is quite detailed! It is modeled after the xenomorph from the first ALIEN movie, with translucent crest that reveals a partial human skull! It's made of a rubber material with a hard translucent plastic that makes up the crest. It's pretty sweet if I must say so myself. The horn on the back of the bust can be pressed down, which pushes out the xenomorph's inner jaw and triggers a cool screeching sound effect. The "illustrated" book, also based on the first ALIEN movie, is a collection of screenshot from the movie with memorable quotes. More like a photo book. Cool item to have and makes an excellent desk buddy at work :).
