AMERICA'S LEADING LADIES who positively impact the world.: Stories of Courage, Challenge and Triumph
AMERICA'S LEADING LADIES who positively impact the world.: Stories of Courage, Challenge and Triumph
This book is shared emotions, experiences and enthusiasm we 50 leading women of America expressed with genuineness and authenticity.
Thank you.
My feelings and my deep appreciation and love to Pat Sampson, our author. She believed in us and most importantly, she never gave up. She stayed on course and overcame all obstacles with joy.
Each chapter is teaching us and empowering us as women to shine, to share and to shift challenges into triumphs and lasting victory.
We all have a unique and precious story. We have something to say and so much to give.
Even a rock wants to feel important! And we are.....
My sincere thanks to Oprah Winfrey and Melinda Gates for participating and giving us the honor of your presence in this powerful, potent and profound book.
I am thrilled beyond words. This is a moment to cherish and spread the word.
I LOVE you all for giving us so much from your heart and soul and spirit.
The world needs us and timing is perfect.
This is our year! Let's celebrate, let's toast and let's continue to believe that our tears and our battles had so much meaning in our lives over and beyond our expectations.
We crossed bridges and we embraced the changes and the newness with internal liberty and trust.
We are not alone, and our next crossing will join forces and we will never feel alone again.
I am humbly inspired and moved.
Thank you ladies. We are sisters by choice.
Colloquial Arabic of the Gulf
Colloquial Arabic of the Gulf
Excellent learning resource suitable for intermediate Arabic learners. Only drawback is the author totally relies on transliteration and has ignored the script. Considering the importance of script in learning a language, and Arabic in particular, the author could have at least included in the glossary Arabic form of all the Arabic words used.
The Best of Bob Dylan Chord Songbook
The Best of Bob Dylan Chord Songbook
This is an excellent book in every respect: the chords are appropriate to each song - not something that you always get, all the verses are shown and you can therefore choose to play/sing them all or not. I admit to a tendency to use Byrd's variants at times e.g. Chimes of Freedom, All I Really Want to Do, Mr Tambourine Man. But then it can be fun to actually bash the whole song out as with one of my favourites Positively 4th Street, which needs all the verses to get Bob's full sarcasm and disdain towards the person concerned.

Some songs e.g. All Along The Watchtower have deceptively few chords but need a bit of practice with strumming - something that is not helped with here but is down to personal choice. I say that because Bob himself performs different versions of his own songs form one gig to another, by all accounts.

The capo positions are helpful and so are the slight tuning changes. At first the book, being the size it is does not easily stay open at a page but persevere and keep practising and the book will stay open. The fact that some songs are over more than 2 pages just adds to the incentive to learn the verses!

And you can appreciate again the amazing storytelling and. I heartily recommend this book as a never ending source of enjoyment and insight into Bob's songs. It is also amazing value for money.
Bob Dylan - Really Easy Piano
Bob Dylan - Really Easy Piano
Four stars for moment. Up date now below
Looks OK but the first song I went to play Lay Lady Lay is in the wrong key being C major the Dylan original version is in B minor I have needed to edit all the written music to the correct key.
The C Major version does not sound right at all.
I am hoping this is the only song scored in the incorrect Key .
Further to the above I have now discovered a Byrds cover was released in C major in playing along with the byrds track in C major the song does sound right , however I wish the score was written in the original Dylan key
Bob Dylan - Made Easy for Guitar
Bob Dylan - Made Easy for Guitar
This book serves the purpose of allowing you to strum some chords while you sing the words to some of Bob Dylan's songs. The chords are loosely related to the chords Dylan might play.
For example, "When the ship comes in", this version just gives a "G" and "C" for the first six measures with 4 strums per measure. Free internet versions of the song add in a few more chords-- at least it is more interesting that way.
"A Hard Rain's gonna Fall"--This version just has you strum the D chord forever. Other versions at least put in a couple D6 and Dsus chords. They arent that hard and add some variety.
Yes, there are hash marks for chord rhythm, but they are a joke. All they show are 4 chords per measure for 4/4, or 3 chord for 3/4 time! That is useless. You only need rhythm marks if you are going to have some variety from your basic strumming.
This book is what it says, Easy versions. The problem is, when you play them they dont sound much like Dylan songs.
I have ordered a different songbook to try again.
What bothers me most about these songbooks, is that they all say the songwriter was the author. This is very misleading. Yes, you would want Cat Stevens or Bob Dylan to be involved with a book that claims he is the author-- because then you would think, even if it were easier, he would make it sound right.
But all it means for most of these songbooks is they gain some rights to do whatever they want arranging these songs. Dylan plays no part whatsoever.
Its deceptive.
RM RICOMAX Metal Detector for Adults & Kids - High-Accuracy, View Meter, Four Detection Modes [DISC/Tone/Full Metal/Pinpointer Mode], 10 Levels of Sensitivity Adjustment, 10-inches Search Coil
RM RICOMAX Metal Detector for Adults & Kids - High-Accuracy, View Meter, Four Detection Modes [DISC/Tone/Full Metal/Pinpointer Mode], 10 Levels of Sensitivity Adjustment, 10-inches Search Coil
This was my second attempt at a metal detector. The first was one from a brick n mortar store which ended up as a return, and thus landed me on Amazon looking at reviews and trying to make an informed decision. Searching through the multitude of metal detectors, the conflicting reviews (on all of them) made it difficult. Please know that there is a science behind metal detecting, based on your settings, and what type of metal the device is actually detecting, so it's important to understand how to adjust the settings and practice with coins and other metal that you find around your house before going out to the field... this is important.
Once you practice with the different metals and settings, you will learn the "personality" of your detector which you apply directly to your success in the field.
The directions for this device were straight forward and easy to follow. Putting the device together was a breeze, but note: it requires 2 9 volt batteries to function, so make sure you have them on hand.
There was a slight discrepancy in the directions which lead to my earlier comment about the personality of the the machine.... I noticed on my machine that the disc setting to ignore iron the disc knob had to be @ 1:00 not 11:00, nickel was 2:00 not 12:00, zinc 4:00. Once I figured this out the device became a much easier to operate.
The device was a little heavy for a 6 year old long and cumbersome - my eight year old however could use it. But quite honestly they had more fun digging in the dirt hunting the treasure detected by the machine.
We took it camping with us last weekend, the picture shows some of the junk and not so junk we found in the soil around the campsite.
It's certainly added an element of adventure to our trip as it seemed like we are on a treasure hunt.
Maybe it was buried in the description, (pun intended) but the item also comes with a little steel army like shovel that you put together, it certainly aided in the digging process of looking for what was beneath the soil.
Honestly I was on the fence on either getting this one or the popular "science magazine" version which was about 2xs the $$. I'm glad I chose this one. We couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Wild Kratts: Season 13
Wild Kratts: Season 13
At our house, we LOVE the Kratt Brothers. Chris and Martin have made the following TV shows for kids:

KRATTS’ CREATURES (1996 50 episodes)
This was the first wildlife show geared specifically towards young children. We have not seen this show, but we were huge fans of the spinoff Zoboomafoo.

ZOBOOMAFOO (1999-2001 65 episodes)
My kids grew up on this show. Why it only ran for two seasons is beyond me. The show features the Kratt brothers along with a talking lemur named Zoboomafoo. I read once that the Kratt Brothers' real purpose in making this show was not so much to expose kids to animal facts but to turn them into lifelong conservationists. It worked. The Kratt Brothers impacted a generation with this show, including my kids.

BE THE CREATURE (3 seasons 30 episodes)
This is the best animal show ever made for children. It is an absolute travesty that only Season 1 (13 episodes) ever made it onto DVD. (Season 2 had 16 episodes. Season 3 had 1 episode.) In each episode, Chris and Martin do an in-depth exploration of one species. While they don’t generally say so, it is clear that they are working with dedicated experts in the field. They actually physically go to where these animals are and spend the entire episode just on this one species. It is incredibly informative. For example, we visit two separate troops of Japanese Macaques. We watch as one troop washes potatoes in the ocean to clean off dirt, culturally learned behavior. We see a second troop enjoy hot baths amidst the snow, behavior picked up from observing humans and then again transmitted culturally. Note that this show pulls no punches and thus is best for older children.

Season 1
1 Brown Dog
2 African Wild Dog
3 African Lion
4 Japanese Macaque
5 Lemur
6 Manatee
7 Coastal Creature
8 Chimpanzee
9 Banded Mongoose
10 Mexican Free-Tailed Bat
11 Great White Shark
12 Gelada Baboon
13 Eastern Gray Kangaroo

WILD KRATTS (2011-2019 5 seasons 138 episodes; more seasons are planned)
Combining animation and live action, the Kratt Brothers have really outdone themselves with this show. Bringing together techniques learned on their other shows, the Kratt Brothers engage young viewers in this fast-paced show, teaching them about animals and how to make a difference. This show aired when my children were no longer young; we loved it and watched it anyway. It is really good, very engaging.
Scorched Earth
Scorched Earth
This is not a great movie--but it is good enough for the genre and budget. It has budgetary and post-apocalyptic assumption flaws but delivers action with some dry humor while sticking to a tried and true plot line. Considering that we have to work within the scorched earth premise despite a history of adapting to changes amazingly well there has to be some give and take to get the movie out the door. I loved the gritty western style of the filming and sets. Assuming they were setting a western in future explains why our heroine is nearly indestructible. Ms. Carano can play that role exceedingly well. Sadly, the director here should be excoriated for not using her prowess more. One of these days another film will figure out how to use her talents perfectly. Until then.

The bad guys were bad enough. The good guys internally conflicted and in the end they ride off into the sunset which works to close the movie. You can do oh so much worse in looking for action. Nothing here insults the intelligence of a viewer. Points for that and remember we are looking at low budget SF/Western. It is great to see Luvia Petersen getting screen time as she plays grit well. .
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Extended Edition)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Extended Edition)
The extended edition for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug will contain 25 minutes of new scenes, in contrast with An Unexpected Journey's 13 minutes. It also has over 9 hours of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, detailing the monumental task of bringing the incredible world of Middle Earth to the screen. Here is some stuff we'll see in the Extended Edition:

1. A LOT MORE OF DOL GULDUR. Specifically, we get to meet Thrain, Thorin's mad father. A sad twisted wreck of a dwarf, he reveals dark truths about the Necromancer (and hey, great performance!). The makeup and prosthetic effects for Thrain are just amazing. Wait till you see it. Richard Armitage also promises glimpses of a vast, bloody battle in Moria.

2. A LOT MORE OF MIRKWOOD. I was surprised and pleased to learn that two scenes from the book were actually filmed: Bilbo, Thorin and company crossing a slimy, enchanted river in Mirkwood. Contains some humor, some amazing sets, some amazing Martin Freeman acting, and a little bit of dark magic. Another sad scene contains a beautiful stag and Dwarvish target practice.

3. MORE OF BEORN'S HOUSE. And we know what that means: more of that glorious New Zealand landscape that we all love. All we know is that we see Beorn with big muscles and a bigger axe. We also get to see a whimsical scene ripped straight from Tolkien's pages, as Gandalf introduces the 13 dwarves and 1 hobbit in his care.

4. BEORN AND GANDALF. Beorn has a conversation with Gandalf about the dangers that lie ahead of the Company.

5. MORE THRANDUIL - SPECIAL FEATURES. Peter Jackson smiles upon us and gives us more Thranduil, including a conversation between father and son, and the dwarves, paraded in front of his mighty throne. Anticipate some elvish hubris and the bitemarks from Lee Pace's scenery-chewing. Note that the Thranduil scenes aren't in the Extended Edition, but in the Special Features. For more from that regal and bitter Elvenking, wait for Battle of the Five Armies.

6. MORE OF THE LONELY MOUNTAIN. The Lonely Mountain gets less lonely as Bilbo and Company explore the ruins of Smaug's desolation - Dale. Some awesome cinematography I can't believe we missed!

7. STEPHEN FRY, SCENERY CHEWER. Stephen Fry promised us last year that he would eat testicles in The Hobbit. He fulfills that promise. At the very least, he shows what a scheming conniver he is, expressing his hopes that "Old Smaug dines on dwarf for a day or two..." Poor Master of Laketown...

8. MORE EVIL ORC ARMIES. Honestly, who doesn't want to see more shots of an orc army marching to doom and a red dawn? Even if its just two or three shots, this filled me with sheer awe!

9. "THE WORLD OF MEN". Most of Laketown was a stunningly detailed set built for real, and we get to see more of the workings and tradings and the men that live there, through the eyes of a hobbit very far from home... Including a new chase scene never before seen! We also see the orcs attack the men of Laketown.

Memories of Tomorrow (Nameless Book 6)
Memories of Tomorrow (Nameless Book 6)
Memories of Tomorrow, the sixth and final story in Dean Koontz’s Nameless series, was the shortest and most straightforward mission as Koontz dedicated half the story to finally revealing the back story of the life of Nameless. In the final series, Nameless is sent to Indiana to track down a psychopath named Chilton Cutter who has murdered his wife, kidnapped his step son Jamie and is now hiding in a remote cave. Nameless is directed, as always, by the Ace of Diamonds, whose endless resources make it easy for the team to track down Cutter, even though local law enforcement has given up and moved on to the next crisis. The justice that is delivered by Nameless is the least exciting and rewarding of the series but this story serves more as a catalyst to force Nameless to face his past and make a decision on how he wants to live his future.

I will not spoil any of the plot the leads to our discovery of the history of Nameless. Koontz brings Nameless to the brink through a typical apocalyptic thunder storm with rain driving down in sheets and lighting piercing the skies at a rural truck stop filled with big rigs, heavy equipment and evil. It is vintage Koontz. Finally, our agent of truth, who has been ironically running from the truth of his past, is forced to stop and confront his own truth. It is a satisfying ending and a fitting conclusion to a very well written and unique series. My only regret is that I do not have a nice hard bound copy to stack on my shelf next to the rest of my Koontz editions. Welcome to the future!
Paulo Coelho: A Warrior's Life: The Authorized Biography
Paulo Coelho: A Warrior's Life: The Authorized Biography
If you're a fan of Coelho's works, skip this autobiography. The author seems to hold his subject in great contempt, repeatedly calling him ugly (which is disproven by the included photos) and listing in boring detail things like every single poor grade received in school, while mentioning significant life events only in passing. So poorly written, I had to speed-read over many tedious passages and read between the lines of the poorly-explained life transitions to get to the meat of what actually occurred in Mr. Coelho's formative years to lead him to become the person he is today. I can't imagine why this book is the authorized version.

I murder, hello - Best Selection Jiro Akagawa <7> (Kadokawa Bunko) (2007) ISBN: 4041879965 [Japanese Import]

Richard Scarry's School Bus Box Set
My 2.5 year old son loves Richard Scarry's Trucks. We also bought Richard Scarry's Cars, but I didn't think it was quite as good. This box set, however, is a real winner. We like all four books, and my son loves to put them back in the holder. My only gripe is that the bottom of the box is not completely flat, so it tips over easily.

I am very disappointed... in other reviewers!

This is a fantastically detailed and functional model. You can really pose this transformable model and display it in any way you can imagine. While the model is on the smaller size it doesn't lack in stature. There are many movable joints and parts that make this easy to pose. This is really a must have for any fan of the series. I had been looking for a model of the SDF-1 for a long time but was put off by models that had to be built and even painted - not something I have any skill in and I wanted something ready to go out of the box and this gave me exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price. I highly recommend it.

The Nero Wolfe Cookbook by Rex Stout (1973)
The Nero Wolfe Cookbook by Rex Stout (1973)
My partner and I are Nero Wolfe fans (we own all the Rex Stout "Nero Wolfe" stories). However, we especially love the TV series (starring Maury Chaykin), food is very important to Wolfe, and I love to cook. We own the entire series on DVD and were (again!) watching the episode in which the 40-minute scrambled eggs were included. This time, just for the heck of it, I googled "40-minute-scrambled eggs" and, lo and behold, the recipe appeared. Credit was given, of course, to this cookbook so, of course, I ordered the cookbook. It does not disappoint. It not only has the recipes for the lunches and dinners Fritz makes, but there are comments from Archie, Wolfe, and Fritz about the story line, etc. We love it - we've made the eggs (they're scrumptious) and will be following other recipes, as well. There is absolutely nothing common in this book, even the simplest recipes have a little extra not found in other cookbooks. So, if you love to cook and want a cookbook that is most definitely off the beaten path, this is the one for you.

Still somewhat new to muskie fishing. I still haven't caught one, but I tried this out today finally and it produced my first strike from a muskie! I used the figure 8, he hit, jumped, hit the boat and got off. Quite the experience! Haha
Soleil vert (French Edition)
Learning Resources Mental Blox Critical Thinking Game, Homeschool, 20 Blocks, 20 Activity Cards, Ages 5+
Learning Resources Mental Blox Critical Thinking Game, Homeschool, 20 Blocks, 20 Activity Cards, Ages 5+
I use this game in my Public Speaking course (Freshman-level Speech) for college students. We play the game 2 different ways:

1) Active Listening/Effective Communication: There are about 5-6 students in a group. I have the picture cards. One student from each group will come view the card for 10 seconds and then return to the group to describe how to build the structure in the picture. They have to employ memory skills and effective communication skills during this process. They have to remember the shapes, colors, and patterns on each block and how they were positioned in the picture, and THEN they have to communicate all of that info back to the group. And when they are actively competing against other teams, it's even more challenging, but it gets them up and moving and working in teams, which is my goal. (15-30 mins)

2) Team-Building/Small Group Communication: Again, there are about 5-6 students in a group (I would prefer 4 or less, but I only have 2 sets of these blocks). They determine their own roles in the group and what each member will do. Some choose to observe, some prefer to build, and some prefer to interpret the cards and direct the building of the structure. The cards include a picture and a challenge statement at the bottom, so after they build the structure, they must then rebuild the structure according to the challenge statement. Only a few of the challenges have only ONE answer, so they inadvertently discuss all possible solutions. I generally don't interact with the groups when they are playing this game; I prefer to monitor if and how well their teams are working together and occasionally offer remind them who is hands-on, who is good at interpreting data, and who is a good evaluator or helper. (15-30 mins)

Durability: pretty good

1) The cards are printed on slick paper and are fairly durable.
2) The blocks are plastic and get knocked over often. We have linoleum floors in our classrooms so they have endured some abuse. Only one block has broken so far - the sphere - and we just taped it back together and it's still going strong.

What you get:

1) The cards are double-sided and include 40 puzzles total. They range from easy to difficult.
2) There are 2 sets of blocks included, which allows (for me) only 2 teams to be working from the same set of cards.

For $18, I have gotten a LOT of use out of this critical-thinking game. I will most likely add 2 more sets to my collection, to facilitate more group activities in the classroom. The only downside is I have only been able to incorporate the game once per semester, but that could just be a lack of creativity on my part.

8 Pieces Face Cover Scarf Bandana Ear Loops Balaclava Unisex Cooling Neck Gaiters Scarf Shield, 8 Styles
While I very much like this product so far, and it fits me and my wife well, putting it on our oversized 8 year old boy left it’s wanting. We had to forgo using the ear straps at all and pull the cover up over the back of his head to keep it from slipping down, which he didn’t like much. Our undersized 6 year old had the same problem with the same fix.

I would recommend this product so long as you have another answer ready for kids.

Motorola One Action with Alexa Push-to-Talk - Unlocked Smartphone - Global Version - 128GB - Denim (US Warranty) - Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost, Cricket, & Metro
Ordered this to replace my laggy Moto G6. A much nicer phone and runs faster. There are not many cases made for these but luckily it comes with it's own in the box. I had no problems using my Verizon sim card. Connected very fast when changing over. Also my files changed/moved over from my G6 with no issues.

Pros: Nice big screen, thin design, nice video camera. I'm not real concerned with the camera as long as I get pictures. The video camera records in portrait but saves in landscape and that is very nice. It stabilizes your video from shaking (hence the action name). Did a great job when I tested it the video camera. The phone has 128g of internal storage which I'll probably never use. I also have a 128g SD card so that is also a plus.
Cons: hole punch in upper left is huge but not too distracting. Has some bleed out around the hole. I'm not a selfie person so I'll never use the front facing camera. I can't seem to find call screening on this phone. That was great on my G6 when I got robocalls. I would simply send all numbers I didn't know to call screening but you can't do this on this phone (if someone knows how let me know). I don't believe this phone turbo charges. When I plug it in it fully says "charging" & not "turbo charging" like my G6. That doesn't mean the option is not there but I don't see it.

Overall a nice phone for the price. it isn't iPhone or Samsung quality but a very nice phone for a budget phone. Supposed to get the Android 10 update at some point but that was the downfall of my Moto G6 - it couldn't handle Android Pie & began to lag after the update. hopefully this will not do that when they update to 10.

If you're looking for a budget phone this one is great and will do what you need it to do at a great price. Hopefully I can get it least 2 years it of it.

Comes in a purple box with a phone case and charger. Buy a tempered glass screen protector separately with your order, I did and they shipped together.
OFM ESS Collection Upholstered Home Office Desk Chair, in Grey (ESS-2085-GRY)
OFM ESS Collection Upholstered Home Office Desk Chair, in Grey (ESS-2085-GRY)
Desk chairs can be sooo expensive and ugly, so I was thrilled to find this inexpensive, cute chair for my home office. It was easy to assemble, it's comfortable, helps me to sit up nice and straight, and it's very chic. I'm only 5'4", but it is the perfect height for my back and the perfect height for my arms to rest comfortably on the sides. It stays upright while I am working away, but then when I lean back into it, it gives way just a little for a nice, minimal recline. I definitely see what people are saying about the welding on the metal, but what do you expect for the price? and besides, you can't even see those details because it comes with a piece to put over it, and yes, the piece is flimsy plastic, but you literally can't even tell when you are looking at it (see photos for examples).

I 10/10 recommend this chair!
